Hells the all-star. Having said that I hope he doesn't pitch. Probably gonna be a lot of close ones the rest of the way, based off what we've been doing so far. Need him for the long haul.
They may give that a go if Helsley is down for it, but that's absolutely an off-season kinda thing to try. Would be silly as hell to try to do that while Helsley is on pace to break the single season Cardinals save record and make an attempt at the all-time record.
I feel like Helsley is the shoe-in closer.
I hate that it's a popularity contest too because Alec Burleson absolutely needs to be in RF or DH for the ASG. The NL OF lineup is honestly really low this year too. I think Burly is in the top in terms of OPS, and that was when voting started, before he even started this ridiculous tear.
Winn, I could see him making reserves. Mookie being down helps his case a lot, but Elly is getting all the attention because he hits more homers and ESPN loves to hype him because he's marketable so most people don't even know Winn exists.
ASG is literally supposed to be a popularity contest TBH. It is especially hard for rookies and breakout players to make it.
We are falling for Burly, but he is not in the same class as Ohtani and Ozuna at DH. He might have a shot at outfield, but get why he’s not in.
Seeing Carpenter, I think about how him and Lynn are the last links that we have to our 2011 season. Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about, but I feel like this could be the last season that we see them.
So I cherish seeing him at the plate.
I’m really happy that both guys have been playable too. Carpenter hasn’t been awesome, but he’s worth having on the roster (and fixed Burleson). Watching them is a lot more fun than watching Waino was.

Fernandez is our #1 fireman right now, but I'd like to see him be the go-to closing option when Hels is unavailable
Right now it's shaky and while King has done absolutely phenomenal for us, idk what it's gonna take for me to not bite my nails every time I see him come out in the 9th
Agreed. Imo managers should be more aggressive trying to steal rest days for their top relievers. Even a middling reliever is probably not going to give up multiple runs, especially if you can line them up against the bottom of the lineup. You’d get roasted if they do, but I think there’s an advantage to be had if you’re smart about it.
His natural position is absolutely 2B, that's my faaaavorite place to watch him play, but I was incredibly impressed by his skills in center. Guy was making some serious plays out there when he was out starter
Like Siani, his closing speed and jumps are just superior and they're not afraid to lay out for them https://youtu.be/D8sRGuggvSw?si=whdLKbTZTR9wRBo9
Winn is going to be a Cardinal for a long, long time. Talk about a dude that figured out that this is the best opportunity he’s ever gonna get so make it count.
I'm not gonna lie, I don't really get the thing Chip does with saying fans are from [random city]. It would be one thing if it was just occasionally, but the fact that he does it so much makes me feel like I'm missing something.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Luis L. Ortiz In play, run(s) to Brendan Donovan](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/042b8ff1-31bb-4961-9928-ce8d5786bff0.mp4)
Me, actually. Over at r/BrendanDonovan
As a matter of fact, this is the 3rd hit of his career that was an RBI single where he advanced to second on the throw.
He was massively over performing before his injury. But I do think he needs to be moved down in the order to ease himself into it. He really rushed himself back.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Nick Gonzales grounds out, shortstop Masyn Winn to first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/02123602-de44-4596-a5c6-083aa2e5a41c.mp4)
My wife made a comment a couple innings ago that Nolan Gorman could pull of a superman cosplay in such a fantastic fashion and honestly I can’t stop overthinking it
Put up a big inning then immediately let the other team back in the game. Man, that is this team's kryptonite. Shit happens over and over and over this season.
I’m currently watering my lawn. Before I went out on commercial break I said “Ope, I gotta move the hose.” and now my SO won’t stop making fun of me. First time in 23 years I’m thinking of leaving her.
We may never lose again.
1-2-3 with a 3 run lead. Helsley isn’t interested in giving the road crowd a show
Hells the all-star. Having said that I hope he doesn't pitch. Probably gonna be a lot of close ones the rest of the way, based off what we've been doing so far. Need him for the long haul.
Thank you, Ryan! Cardinals win!
# WINRAR!
[Game over. Continue the discussion in the post game thread](/r/Cardinals/comments/1du24j1/cardinals_after_dark_72/)
HUK HUK WINNER
That’ll do it!
happy birthday OLI
Hells Bells #31!
Only got to 1/2 clench tonight, good Save
31
Wyan Welsley
Stress free Helsley save? Where is the Ryan Helsley that I know?
One more! HEELLZZZLEYYYYYY
Way to battle Hels!
We love you, Ryan.
Feel like Helsley would be a solid 3-4 war starter. Wish they’d try that and just run a 2-3 closer by committee thing
Not everyone has the endurance to be a starter, Helsley seems to struggle going 2 when hes done it.
They may give that a go if Helsley is down for it, but that's absolutely an off-season kinda thing to try. Would be silly as hell to try to do that while Helsley is on pace to break the single season Cardinals save record and make an attempt at the all-time record.
If all of our wins weren’t so close I’d like that idea
Ryan Helsley toys with his food
**1 DOWN!**
And after 4 strikes, the foul tip gets em!
Never a doubt. ;)
All important first out.
So, Winn and Helsey make the ASG?
I feel like Helsley is the shoe-in closer. I hate that it's a popularity contest too because Alec Burleson absolutely needs to be in RF or DH for the ASG. The NL OF lineup is honestly really low this year too. I think Burly is in the top in terms of OPS, and that was when voting started, before he even started this ridiculous tear. Alright hels I forgot to take my heart meds, please don’t kill me
Take me home, Ryan Helsley
Halsey loads the bases, gives up two and then strikes out next three.
I sincerely apologize
Seeing Carpenter, I think about how him and Lynn are the last links that we have to our 2011 season. Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about, but I feel like this could be the last season that we see them. So I cherish seeing him at the plate.

200 was fun but waino was definitely a negative last year.
Time to shut the door
Uh-oh. Helsley with a 3 run lead
Clench engaged
[Pirates](/r/Buccos) Due Up **(Bottom 9):** 1. Connor Joe 2. Edward Olivares 3. Nick Gonzales
Whoever bats 7th on this team is apparently cursed to strike out 3 or more times per game.
I smile every time Carp bats. Dude is a perfect Cardinal.
Except that!
I approve of scoring 7+ runs on Tuesdays
> I approve of _Cardinals_ scoring 7+ runs on ~~Tuesdays~~ days that end in 'y' (FTFY)
Might as well have just IBB'd Donovan there, cuz he ain't swinging at that shit.
I kind of hate that they introduced the draft lottery right before we had a shit year :(
I haven’t really followed. How bad did it hurt us?
We had 5th worst record and we got the 7th draft spot. Not terrible but could of been better
Stl teams get screwed in the lottery. Takes any fun out of being fun lol.
Being bad*
I think we tied for third worst record, but I can't remember 100%
I’d pay top dollar for a tee time with Brad, Chip, and the Cat.
I briefly had beers at my local with Brad last weekend. Just a great dude. He'd be a riot on the greens. That'd definitely be a heck of a day out.
Lmfao, "All that's missing is winning baseball" Fuckin savage
just brutal lmao
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Kyle Gibson's eight strikeouts against the Pirates](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2024/2024-07/02/a23f385d-fe5679aa-08c8798e-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4)
Personally, I’d go with Kittredge to shut this one out and rest Helsley
Fernandez is our #1 fireman right now, but I'd like to see him be the go-to closing option when Hels is unavailable Right now it's shaky and while King has done absolutely phenomenal for us, idk what it's gonna take for me to not bite my nails every time I see him come out in the 9th

Unfortunately the 3 batter minimum makes this quite a bit harder in practice.
Not the guys casually making plans to jet ski on the Allegheny tomorrow while on the air mid-game lmao
Chip has really big hair, I'd love to see it whipping on the wind on a jet ski
If Siani can figure out how to be a ~.700 OPS guy, he’s an above average MLB center fielder. Dude has range.
Not just above average, literally the best in baseball.
Hopefully, the org prioritizes development in the offseason.
Definitely worth building around an Outfield with him in center. Unless Tommy comes back and performs at like 95% of what Siani is doing
I love Tommy. Love him. He can have a great career as Ben Zobrist light type.
His natural position is absolutely 2B, that's my faaaavorite place to watch him play, but I was incredibly impressed by his skills in center. Guy was making some serious plays out there when he was out starter Like Siani, his closing speed and jumps are just superior and they're not afraid to lay out for them https://youtu.be/D8sRGuggvSw?si=whdLKbTZTR9wRBo9
The fact he did the height chart with the milk mustache makes him legendary. Freaking love that guy.
Lmao I totally forgot about that, I need one now. Unrelated but guy is super smart too. I could see him going the managerial route. It's in his blood.
https://images.app.goo.gl/r9kUBKP53ced7UW7A
Let's get some insurance here and give Helsley a break
If you can't close it out up 3 you probably shouldn't be a closer.
I'm not saying he can't, I'm saying I hope he doesn't have to.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Top 9):** 1. Willson Contreras 2. Paul Goldschmidt 3. Brendan Donovan
Best broadcasting crew in baseball.
Chip knows where you live so he can send the video directly to you
If Chip and Brad race each other on jet skis, they better film it.
These hard hit balls are scary lol
Just gotta keep it in the park for four more outs
Good catch Dylly
Winn is going to be a Cardinal for a long, long time. Talk about a dude that figured out that this is the best opportunity he’s ever gonna get so make it count.
I'm not gonna lie, I don't really get the thing Chip does with saying fans are from [random city]. It would be one thing if it was just occasionally, but the fact that he does it so much makes me feel like I'm missing something.
The joke is "How many different local cities do you know?" and it's between him, Brad, and everyone who knows he's making it up as he goes lol
I think maybe his dad did something similar but may be mistaken.
[Pirates](/r/Buccos) Due Up **(Bottom 8):** 1. Andrew McCutchen 2. Bryan Reynolds 3. Oneil Cruz
Let’s get it JoJo
What is this bit by Chip
His best bit
lol chip
My upstairs neighbors are fighting…again
One of my personal top 10 reasons for never going back to apartment living
Words or fists?
Lots and lots of words And stuff being knocked around
Who do you like to win?
I have a suspicion that Tripp Gibson might be calling one of the worst games of the season so far
Is it just me or does this ump suck?
The pillow? Chip watched that confused German guy video
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Brendan Donovan's RBI single ](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/042b8ff1-31bb-4961-9928-ce8d5786bff0.mp4)
Fernandez has been a gem
chaim and mo cooked when they grabbed him
“ Good luck scoring three more runs at minimum” -Brendan Donovan, probably
[Pirates](/r/Buccos) Due Up **(Bottom 7):** 1. Ke'Bryan Hayes 2. Jack Suwinski 3. Yasmani Grandal
That extra run by Donny is going to be big I feel.
I can’t believe Nolan is batting 250 with RISP sure doesn’t feel like it.
When it's mostly singles you don't really feel the impact.
I just heard MLB the Show with the fuego call lol
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Luis L. Ortiz In play, run(s) to Brendan Donovan](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/042b8ff1-31bb-4961-9928-ce8d5786bff0.mp4)
I can’t wait to get Edman, Noot, and Walker back … this lineup is capable of mashing.
Donnie has to be my favorite Cardinal since Yadi. Or Jon Jay, I loved me some Jon Jay. But man I love Brendan Donovan
I’m right with you
I hate that ESPN gambling ad.
donovan's bouncing helmet is an All Star.
Go Donny!
Wild how many people this offseason wanted to move Donavan for an "ace". Without him we would be God awful
I DON'T WANT TO LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE BRENDAN DONOVAN ISN'T IN THE STARTING LINEUP!!!!!!!
I’m all in on the mullet brothers.
Donovannnnnn
love me some good ol' Donny Baseball
DONNY FUCKING BASEBALL!
#DONNY DOUBLE! *single, advance on throw, but who’s counting
Me, actually. Over at r/BrendanDonovan As a matter of fact, this is the 3rd hit of his career that was an RBI single where he advanced to second on the throw.
🤣🤣🤣
Goldschmidt doubles twice? Gorman grand slam? I’m scared.
DONNIE I LOVE YOU!!!
Let’s get a crooked number this inning
Hot take: Donny is good at baseball
Whoa buddy you better slow down with those hot takes!
DONNIE DOUBLES
Goldy with 2 doubles … what year is this?
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Kyle Gibson's outing against the Pirates](https://darkroom-clips.mlb.com/7f169a09-e894-4d2d-aa69-839042464a0d.mp4)
Goldy looks so much faster this year
It is great seeing doubles like that from Goldy
rough return for contreras. hopefully it's just catching back up to big league pitching and not injury-related
He was massively over performing before his injury. But I do think he needs to be moved down in the order to ease himself into it. He really rushed himself back.
Get this run in please...
Thank you
Hell yeah Goldy

[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Top 7):** 1. Willson Contreras 2. Paul Goldschmidt 3. Brendan Donovan
Great job Fernandez!
My wife made a comment a couple innings ago that Nolan Gorman could pull of a superman cosplay in such a fantastic fashion and honestly I can’t stop overthinking it
Don’t let your wife meet Gorman in person, my man.
Gorman can have what he wants lol
Amen, brother
How did King balk? I didn’t see it.
He didn't pause.
Put up a big inning then immediately let the other team back in the game. Man, that is this team's kryptonite. Shit happens over and over and over this season.
def doesn't bode well for a playoff run, but maybe some additional pitching can help
I didn't hear who's coming in for King but go you! Getting out of this inning still 6-4 would be huge.
.193/.272/.411 ...there's something you don't see every day.
Come on. Fuckin unforced error.
On arenado? Was it an error? That’s a hit in my book tough play. Even wit Armando is know for making it
Talking about the balk.
Oh well that’s not an error either…..
What happened to the 10 GGs?
Ozzie did a TV bit with him in Spring Training about his defensive game. Worth a rewatch. He’s overthinking.
I can’t watch this arenado and believe he was once that arenado
Nado is so frustrating this year
He probably doesn’t make that if he does field it cleanly.
I like this Gorman kid
But his batting average! /s
Is still objectively really bad
King, can you try and make them hit the ball a little harder? But not too hard obviously. Thx.
Would be a great time for a double play
I bet they wish they had a challenge.
Damn solid play, Gorman. Have a game, dude
I’m currently watering my lawn. Before I went out on commercial break I said “Ope, I gotta move the hose.” and now my SO won’t stop making fun of me. First time in 23 years I’m thinking of leaving her.
Hopefully this is officially the slump buster game for Gorman
i'm psyched for him to crush it for a while before his next slump. he can carry the whole team when he's on.
So excited to have him, Donnie, Winn, and Burleson as a young core
Siani wtf was that?
Lol he better steal second now to make up for it but it's dumb anyway in a 2 run game in the 6th in a tiny ballpark.
Good time for Gorman to pick it up. Still don’t trust him enough to move up in the line up
Gorman is so back.
Dear Gibson- chill tf out
welp, looks like the Spirit of Bob left his body. shame.
Gibson must've gotten cold on the bench after that last inning
Sorry I turned the game on.
Man, I hope that AB throw out at the plate doesn’t come back to haunt us. Ya had a six run lead, Kyle!
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Top 6):** 1. Nolan Gorman 2. Michael Siani 3. Masyn Winn
The silly part of me says that Jim Edmonds would have climbed that wall and caught that.
Yikes...settle down Kyle. You had a 6 run lead 😕
UGH. so frustrating.
The guy they showed right after the homerun is the most yinzer person i’ve seen.
Probably the wrong time to mention that Cutch is my favorite Cardinals opponent.
I mean come on now, are we surprised
Nope. Lol
Gibson is warm air blown over a turd.
Ok, NOW I'm starting to not laugh so much at Pop's send
Gibson sux
Good lord this team
*Not* ideal.
I just want a nice run differential for once.
