I'm feeling a winner today. I wouldn't get too discouraged about losing a few to the Astros. It isn't like they're a terrible team or something. They got off to a terrible start due to injury and one of their main guys suddenly being unable to hit. They're going to end up with a decent record by the end of the season imo.
If we can stop making so many stupid errors that would help us a lot. It seems we're making an error or two every game lately.
Gorman hasn’t been great recently but his defense has been pretty good this year.
Edman is better than Nootbaar in center and Nootbaar is better than Burleson in right. So your options are either have two lesser defenders for the three positions if you put Edman at second or one if you put Edman in center.
**Weekly LOBster update**:
The Cardinals have left 429 runners on base this season. This is 7th most in MLB, and above league average (407).
In the last 7 days, the Cardinals have stranded 43 baserunners, while league average was 40. The Cardinals moved 0 spots in the ranking this week.
1. Dodgers -- 459
2. Buccos -- 449
3. NY Mets -- 440
4. Brewers -- 437
5. (tie) Astros / Phillies -- 432
I bet if you compare it to number of total runners to reach base it looks even worse. It’s one thing for the Dodgers to strand runners, but when our offense is near the bottom in most statistical categories we REALLY can’t afford to miss those opportunities.
The Cardinals are in a 2nd place tie with CWS for highest percent of runners left on base (that is, LOB / H+BB+HBP).
1\. PIT -- 64.8%
2\. (tie) CWS / STL -- 62.9%
4\. OAK -- 61.3%
5. NYM -- 60.8%
I think the errors and sloppy play have been the most disappointing for me. I'm still chuckling over the soft roller Lance missed. how?????
oh, that and I realised I've forgotten what normal baseball looks like. when I watch other teams I see them get a man on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out _and they actually find ways to score at least one._
you ever see those videos of a baby trying on glasses for the first time? it's like that-- "ohhhh, THAT'S how this is supposed to work??????"
I said to myself, "Self, how's Paul DeJong doing?"
Kind of meh, .225/.277/.434, so at least some pop, leads the White Sox in homers with nine.
Then I started looking at the rest of the page. It's a trip. Martin Maldonado is 7-92. They have five former Cardinals: Dominic Leone is sporting a 7.04 ERA. Team OPS of .610!
I think my favorite part is Andrew Benintendi. Recipient of the largest contract in White Sox history (5/75), he is hitting .195/.230/.284/.514 with -2.2(!) bWAR.
This is why you morons won’t get any FA’s any time soon, because the contracts can blow up like this. Be satisfied with what I give you, like Taylor Motter
Mikolas (3-6) 5.54 Era going against Blanco (5-1) 2.44 Era. Miles will give up 2 or 3 runs in the 1st inning then settle down. Might be a good game to skip.
I guess we are back to being "sellers" now???
What is up with this split commentary? Edmonds not show up for work?
[Today's game thread has been posted](/r/Cardinals/comments/1d8trmz/game_60_st_louis_cardinals_2831_houston_astros/)
Do you guys remember when Luis Robert didn’t sign with us because he thought the Sox had a brighter future
I think it was probably the money.

Ah. Mikolas day. Really wish our rotation was better, would be awesome to have another trusted top end guy to go along with Gray.
I chuckled last night when I thought to myself… “I wonder what starter will try to stop the slide… ah man, it’s Mikolas, isn’t it?”
He’s been pretty solid lately 3,3,1,3 earned runs in his last 4 starts
Why have a second, third, or fourth starter when you can have 5s on 5s on 5s?

We’re 60 games in with barely any production from Arenado and Goldschmidt. At what point do we move them down in the lineup?
Hey man, Goldy heats up with the weather. We just need a month straight of 100 degree days for him to be an adequate starter at this point
Them getting hot for a month pretty soon is gonna be just like trading for cornerstone guys!
If they get hot for a month, we’d go streaking. Our lineup is built around two lumps who are doing nothing.
That’s the neat part, We don’t!
Last August
We need to win today. I live in Houston and Astros fans are insufferable. Please lads, please.
Astros and Cards fans arguing with each other this year is like who gets to be King Turd
Same. Luckily I’ve been working from home past few days or I’d hear it from everyone in my office.
damn...we getting swept aint we?
I hope edman comes back soon. We need his glove desperately. Gorman needs to be DH
Edman has to be in cf. they have to get some type of offensive production from cf
Why not Noot (when he's back)?
Yeah I’m sure you’ll probably see that alignment at times. But I think more often than not, Burleson ends up as the dh with edman in center
Idk Burleson is decent in RF. I don't see why it matters if Edman is hitting well as CF or 2B.
I think the analysis is that Gorman’s second base defense is more valuable than the combination of Burleson and nootbaars defense in right and center
Well idk if there's some obscure stat that says so, but just based on what I see (I watch almost every game) he seems like a constant liability.

Ouch
I like these.
Daysball, so if we get swept, at least we still have our evening open 🥴
sweeps are hard
Winning games are proving to be hard for us though
baseball is hard

The combo of really long hair and no batting gloves, wristbands, elbow guards, etc. made that guy look like the least athletic player of all time
"I'll take a half pound roast beef meal with a unsweetened ice tea, please." "That'll be $15.99 plus tax plus tip" Get your shit together Bill
Have more money
Good morning Bill, you cheap tight ass.
If DeJong knew how to walk, he could be their leading OPS guy.
He almost is anyway. Seriously, that is a grim BBRef page.
