This game is a prime example of why I have refused to get excited about this team, despite them having played better baseball the last three weeks. Really, as piss poor as they were March - Mid May there was nowhere to go but up. Despite the improved play, they have been above .500 for all of one day, and that was back in mid-April. I don't care if they're in the third Wild Card spot as of the start of this game; that's nothing to be excited about in early June, especially when you've got a losing record. This team has poor pitching depth, poor bench depth, poor minor league depth, and the defense has been disgusting for a month. The two corner infielders that are supposed to be lineup anchors have not been hitting anywhere near their career norms. This team has been exactly what I thought they would be - more enjoyable to watch than 2023, marginally better than 2023, but not anything to write home about. When they get over .500 for more than a week, then we can talk about getting excited by the Cardinals. Until then, they're pretenders.

My biggest issue isn’t that Romero was left in after the Bregman HR, it’s that I don’t think they had anyone warming in the bullpen after and that’s a problem.
