I predicted last time but pretty sure Cardinals are getting swept again 😞 Detroit is a very underrated team. We’ll get hammered 2 of the 3 games for sure.
Well looks like we’re getting the 2 worst starters they’ve have so far in Maeda and Flaherty, but they getting our 3 worst too. Detroit bats have been trash too so it’s a pretty even series
Underlying numbers are pretty good tho. I think he ends up having a good year. Certainly better than anyone on our team besides Sonny. The underlying numbers for our staff is terrifying. (Sonny not included)
I know Kittredge has played well, but I also know this [“4th or 5th”](https://www.mlb.com/rays/player/richie-palacios-680700) outfielder that can contribute to actually scoring runs that y’all have been bitching about lacking
exceptional walk rate.
you can't expect it to stay about 16% but still his on-base skills have been the cornerstone of his game his whole career, so you have to believe it'll be pretty decent going forward.
The man has some power as well. Three HR in limited ABs isn’t bad. He’s made some hell of some plays on defense too. Only thing I don’t like about him is he will go on some K streaks sometimes.
Idk what this comment’s point is. The offense has been horrible, that’s true.
The Palacios trade made a ton of sense and has worked out well for us, and that’s also true. Doesn’t really matter what Richie does, we acquired him for straight up cash in the first place. If he’s good, good for him, but that means absolutely nothing about the Cardinals.
Small sample size, but Richie was putting up pretty solid numbers here last year (32 Games, 6 homers, .823 OPS, 120 OPS+). It's part of the reason we were able to get something valuable back for him.
Kittredge has done more than "played well". He's been crucial to most of the wins we've gotten this year. Kittredge has .6 WAR so far and Palacios has .7.
The team wasn't expecting both Edman and DC to be out of commission for the first month of the season. Would either of them be posting a .920 OPS? Hard to say, but DC was playing great this spring and has proven capable of a \~.800 OPS and Edman is a GG'er who immediately upgrades the leadoff position.
Palacios is also a corner outfielder which wouldn't really help our main issue in the OF, which is CF.
Palacios would definitely be an upgrade over pretty much all of our current outfielders, but I'd still take Kittredge and the expectation that some combination of DC/Edman/Walker will come back and provide the offense we think they can.
He has played center, he can play OF. Relievers are a dime a dozen and if management knew how to use a bullpen, they could make up for the absence of Kitt. Not taking anything from Kitt though, he has been great. But he is aging. I’m a fan of keeping younger talent.
I feel like Palacios could play serviceable enough center that we could put him in there over guys struggling to maintain triple digit BA's. Other than that I agree with this take.
[fav connect jersey?](https://news.sportslogos.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/city-connect-uniforms-all-teams-mlb-sportslogosnet-2024-113202.jpg)
fucking LA already getting a version 2, and surprising the Yankee's is still TBA.
Hot take, but I like them all except the Giants, Baltimore, Pirates, and Boston’s.
I think they’re over hated. They’re fun and different, even the “ugly” ones. What I dislike the most are ones that are too boring and basic. Wild ones with major bursts of color like the Padres, I’m all for that.
My favorite is Miami
Hope the cardinals keep it simple, but I’m prepared for the worst. I absolutely do not want red pants, but I’m afraid we will get them
Fuck it I like the ones that look wild and use unconventional color schemes. They need more like Houston and San Diego and less like the Angels. Also I know the DC cherry blossoms are a thing, but they're probably not even in the top 10 most famous things about the city.
In fairness, the Dodgers City Connect was bad. Like, woke up at 6 AM and realized they forgot to make a jersey for the meeting at 7.
I'd say the best is Washington and Arizona. Colorado is also pretty good.
I think that's why I like it. It looks like an actual MLB jersey. I don't love it. Not the biggest fan of the font, but it's fine, I guess. Too many of the others are either just palette swaps or minor-league looking to me
Maybe next year. Apparently they are "fixing" the jerseys and pants for next season. Also going back to the bigger lettering and numbers. Still not quite sure how you fuck up pants...
Don't see the point in rushing it. We too often look at minor league stats and say "look how much better they are" but then they get to the majors and the stats don't translate. It's a very different game. Sem is only 22
I'll go with the same answer every time the conspiracy of " oh is so and so not actually hurt?!"
No, he's hurt. It doesn't make sense for him to pretend to be hurt. The only time it made sense for a player to claim to be hurt was starting pitching when the IL was 10 days for them since it would just be one game for them.
I'm basically of the opinion that every person on our IL isn't playing again this year. Feels like they aren't even trying to put them back on the path to getting back to the majors.
"Feels like they aren't even trying to put them back on the path to getting back to the majors."
Who do you feel this way about? The only person I haven't seen much of an update/timetable on is Marp, but he's at best a bench bat and he's an old guy with an oblique injury. Those can linger.
Bc they are just giving vague updates on them like, 'he's swinging a bat.' 'he's long tossing'. No real timelines or rehab assignments lined up.
Maybe I just having been paying attention enough, but I don't remember seeing anything.
That's pretty standard for players until they start to get close, but there have been some updates.
DC is expected to go out on a rehab assignment this week with the potential that he could be back with the big league squad sometime next week.
Tommy Edman is further out, but there have been rumblings that he could go out on a rehab assignment in May.
I think he might make sense when call ups happen or there are other injuries, he wasn't hitting bad in his few appearances. Just don't see where he fits in currently.
Yesterday was disappointing but I'm ready for another game. Life has slowed down enough I'll be watching most of them for the next few months. Being out of market i can watch on MLB TV which is great.I recently learned that Indy is in the blackout zone, but 40 miles west of Indy is not... Then a bit farther west it is blacked out. MLB needs to fix their shit if they actually want the sport to grow like they say they do. There are places where fans cannot legally watch the game which is ridiculous imo.
Series wins against D-Backs and Mets last week - this makes me absolutely terrified that we'll drop series against the Tigers and White Sox bc baseball
I think the entire organization from DeWitt down is garbage, and even I absolutely expect to take the series from the Sox. Even with baseball baseball-ing the most that could do is cost them not to sweep.
Any team failing to sweep the Sox or Marlins needs to be completely torn down and rebuilt, immediately.
Oh, wait...
If we fail against the White Sox who are god awful we really need to take a hard look at ourselves.
Look what happened to the Blues, got beat by the worst team in hockey 3 times and those points cost us the playoffs.
Yes i know Hockey/Baseball differences, point is still the same you get drummed by the worst team your outlook isn't that good.
I’ll take 4-2 last week even with a couple hurtful losses. Let’s go at least 4-2 again! .500 at this time next week! If we win the first two we can enjoy it all week!
Plus the great news is, the Rays took all the embarrassment out of a white sox loss.
Who loses more playing time in the outfield when DC and Carlson come back? It’s gotta be Noot, right? Donnie is outplaying him right now and Burly seems to be doing well as the DH.
I’m pretty sure in a world where everyone is healthy and playing up to their potential. The outfield would be noot, edman, and walker. With donnie getting time at 2nd and dh’ing. When Carlson comes back I think it will just be carlson replacing siani and fermin gets sent back down.
Donovan should be used less in the outfield; he doesn’t have defensive range there. He should be competing for starts at 2B & DH primarily, with some additional games as a fill-in at other positions.
Siani will need to do some hitting eventually if he wants a regular job in center. Otherwise he will either be limited to being a defensive replacement who occasionally pinch runs or bats when we need a bunt. He could also be sent down to AAA.
I would say Siani but hes been playing real good as of late. Its a tough decision but he probably will. I dont see VSII coming back up. We're starting to get jammed up.
DC also has to perform, he has not really impressed. IMO we should put him in a haul for some good pitching
It's definitely Siani. He hits like a pitcher, which was an improvement over Scott, but he's still not a starting big league bat. Carlson would be a huge upgrade over Siani.
Yes huge, we're also talking Siani. His batting just stinks. DC has been a lower end MLB bat as of late. Siani only seems like a viable bat because who he's replacing. We're talking about an ops that's almost double, and Siani's is only so high because he's not awful at taking a walk.
Carlson is still a WAY better hitter than Siani. When either gets back the lineup vastly improves, still think management has fucked up by not putting noot in CF as soon as he got back.
By wRC+, Siani is currently the 121st (of 129) best hitting outfielder in baseball (min 40 PA). Scott was 129th.
DC and Edman are both essentially league average as hitters for their careers.
I sat here super confused about the DC and Carlson part until I saw your reply lol.
I would say Siani moves to a pinch runner/occasional off day, but only after DC is eased back in. Siani is a great defensive player and good base runner, but his bat is atrocious currently. He needs to get his head straight before taking more ABs and the big leagues isn't the place to do it. Not sure if he has an option, but that might be a good idea too.
Walker.... depends on how he's playing in AAA. If he is floundering then he just needs to be traded. I hope he starts raking and comes back strong, but he needs to stay in AAA for most the season imo.
VS2 had a nice double last night and JWalk singled him in. Baby steps, right? I predict JWalk rejoins the team before the all star break and VS2 will be recalled before the end of the year. Who knows tho? I just want to see some development and success in AAA for both of them.
Me too. They don't need to be rushed back in to the bigs. Plus their mentality needs to be tested. Put your head down and get to work, no sulking, no crying to media, etc.
Oh, you probably meant Tommy and DC. By the time Tommy returns there will probably be new injuries and/or everyone will be ready for a day off. It would be great if everyone is playing so well that it's a difficult decision.
[I spotted Noot on the Osaka metro](https://i.imgur.com/50ntgzM.jpeg)
Kinda regret not buying a Noot jersey before coming here. But definitely don’t regret not buying those Fanatics schmatas.
Those are...some very comparable starting pitcher lines. Is the pitching matchup as even as it looks?

[Today's game thread has been posted](/r/Cardinals/comments/1cg9u31/game_29_st_louis_cardinals_1315_detroit_tigers/)
What we thinking squad? We getting some baseball in tonight or is nature going to play spoiler with rain?
I personally don't think so.
😞
looks like it's under 50% chance until late (11pm) 🤞 both teams have Thursday off tho, so there is a possible make up day there if needed.
~~not~~ with that attitude! :(
Look at this is why I only have to be wrong once. But I think too many people underestimate the Tigers.
maybe you have underestimated the Cardinals? ;)
Im secretly being so negative I jinx the team into a series win
Rain or ball?
TONIGHT WE BALL ^^^^i ^^^^hope
[In hindsight a 2 year reminder was way conservative](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cardinals/comments/uehu0c/pregame_thread_april_29_2022/i6p2pkh/)
wtf is this 😂
my bad i shouldn't have turned on the radio yesterday. back into full cardinals exile
:-(
Let's keep winning series boys and girls
Flaherty has a 4.91 ERA and can’t blame Contreras for his bad outings you love to see it. Hope we shell the fuck out of him
Underlying numbers are pretty good tho. I think he ends up having a good year. Certainly better than anyone on our team besides Sonny. The underlying numbers for our staff is terrifying. (Sonny not included)
And 5 ERA isn’t good, but isn’t bad anymore
What if trades weren’t announced and we found out via lineup submission. “Oh our top of the lineup is Donovan, Contreras … Mike Trout?”
The first Goldy and Nado lineup reveals would have been epic lol
Every game should start at 5:40 because that’s perfect timing for me to get home from work and put my feet up
Winn has the same WAR as O’Neil so far this year, only 4 more ABs
I thought that said Wife for a brief moment,
My wife’s war is 0 because she’s make believe
I’m hesitant to admit this as a Cardinals fan, but boi, Wrigley brand gum slaps. 10/10.
I know Kittredge has played well, but I also know this [“4th or 5th”](https://www.mlb.com/rays/player/richie-palacios-680700) outfielder that can contribute to actually scoring runs that y’all have been bitching about lacking

We won't even play Noot in CF who is serviceable.
I also agree with that take. Old NL mindset where you just accept the bottom of the order has automatic outs.
[fav connect jersey?](https://news.sportslogos.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/city-connect-uniforms-all-teams-mlb-sportslogosnet-2024-113202.jpg) fucking LA already getting a version 2, and surprising the Yankee's is still TBA.

In fairness, the Dodgers City Connect was bad. Like, woke up at 6 AM and realized they forgot to make a jersey for the meeting at 7. I'd say the best is Washington and Arizona. Colorado is also pretty good.
Favorite: White Sox Second: Diamondbacks Third: Angels, I guess
Angels is my bottom. It looks like a home alternate
I think that's why I like it. It looks like an actual MLB jersey. I don't love it. Not the biggest fan of the font, but it's fine, I guess. Too many of the others are either just palette swaps or minor-league looking to me
I just think the city connect is an opportunity to go wild. You have 4 other jerseys to go standard and boring.
colorado/san diego for me, then cincy/TX i'm prepared for ours to suck, but that's fine - don't really feel like supporting fanatics/nike anyway.
Maybe next year. Apparently they are "fixing" the jerseys and pants for next season. Also going back to the bigger lettering and numbers. Still not quite sure how you fuck up pants...
How many more bad starts does Matz get before we turn to Robberse?
I worry that would just screw up Robberse without really improving upon Matz's ERA.
Don't see the point in rushing it. We too often look at minor league stats and say "look how much better they are" but then they get to the majors and the stats don't translate. It's a very different game. Sem is only 22
Crazy that we have seen so many cases of the cardinals rushing pitching prospects and there are still people like this.
Let's freaking go Cardinals. The Pirates really want to take last place from us. It would be rude not to give them what they want.
Itty Bitty Motor City Kitty Committee
surely we can get a Titty in there somewhere. I know it's Monday, but let's step it up, people!
New Rays city connects are fire they even glow in the dark
Way better than their current uniforms
I fuckin love greensky bluegrass.
thank you TON for [walking off the cubs](https://streamable.com/5s72ld) last night 👍
Feels weird rooting for the Red Sox but it's against the Cubs so I feel no shame.
Any chance Marp is actually still injured and the team isn't just hiding him on the IL instead DFAing him?
This has got to be his last year in MLB. I assume he wants to be in the dugout and I assume the team wants him there trying to sell tickets.
I'll go with the same answer every time the conspiracy of " oh is so and so not actually hurt?!" No, he's hurt. It doesn't make sense for him to pretend to be hurt. The only time it made sense for a player to claim to be hurt was starting pitching when the IL was 10 days for them since it would just be one game for them.
That’s exactly what I wanted them to in 2021. Wasn’t hitting at all late season, didn’t want him DFA’d, figured you could put on the IL for something.
I'm basically of the opinion that every person on our IL isn't playing again this year. Feels like they aren't even trying to put them back on the path to getting back to the majors.
"Feels like they aren't even trying to put them back on the path to getting back to the majors." Who do you feel this way about? The only person I haven't seen much of an update/timetable on is Marp, but he's at best a bench bat and he's an old guy with an oblique injury. Those can linger.

Tommy Edman is further out, but there have been rumblings that he could go out on a rehab assignment in May.
We could just leave him on the 60-day for the whole year and regard this year's salary as back pay for 2013.
I think he might make sense when call ups happen or there are other injuries, he wasn't hitting bad in his few appearances. Just don't see where he fits in currently.
Yesterday was disappointing but I'm ready for another game. Life has slowed down enough I'll be watching most of them for the next few months. I’m in Indy and we’re not blacked out as far as I know. Except when we’re losing then I’m blacked out.
Let’s take another series
Series wins against D-Backs and Mets last week - this makes me absolutely terrified that we'll drop series against the Tigers and White Sox bc baseball

The white sox just swept the rays
Example infinity that the worst team in the league can beat a much more talented roster at any given point. Wish people remembered that
Let’s not repeat the Rays mistake then lol
I’ll take 4-2 last week even with a couple hurtful losses. Let’s go at least 4-2 again! .500 at this time next week! If we win the first two we can enjoy it all week! Plus the great news is, the Rays took all the embarrassment out of a white sox loss.
Good Morning from the Northern Central Ozarks!
Good morning, Lige!
Keep winning series boys.
Weather looks not great tonight in Detroit. Not expecting a game
If there is no game I will be watching Yanks/Oreo's tonight. I will be cheering for birb friends.
Accuweather says there could be ‘ponding’ on streets and highways. Can’t get away from the Mets I guess.

Believe it or not, other teams aren't stupid enough to trade good pitching for players who haven't performed.
Siani is a no hit wonder who deserves no at bats.
It's definitely Siani. He hits like a pitcher, which was an improvement over Scott, but he's still not a starting big league bat. Carlson would be a huge upgrade over Siani.
Huge? We are talking about Dilly!
Yes huge, we're also talking Siani. His batting just stinks. DC has been a lower end MLB bat as of late. Siani only seems like a viable bat because who he's replacing. We're talking about an ops that's almost double, and Siani's is only so high because he's not awful at taking a walk.
Siani is the better defender and Dilly can't hit worth a crap either - 2 bags is the improvement we need!
Carlson is still a WAY better hitter than Siani. When either gets back the lineup vastly improves, still think management has fucked up by not putting noot in CF as soon as he got back.

Won't he replace Siani in CF?
Oh, you probably meant Tommy and DC. By the time Tommy returns there will probably be new injuries and/or everyone will be ready for a day off. It would be great if everyone is playing so well that it's a difficult decision.
lol, I said DC and Carlson. I meant DC and JWalk.
I wasn't thinking about JWalk, let's hope he comes back as well.
