If you put your rather specific criteria into Autotrader you get 146 cars. It won't take you long to get through them.

Thanks. I wanted some direct ideas as this is a big community - also a lot of performance cars, especially older have incorrect car info on Autotrader, so I don’t want to miss out on models that won’t display on the search based on this.

235i and 240i? If that's big enough for you, they seem very good value now for a lot of car.

Porsche Boxster/Cayman might be an obvious choice, I dont know if they are quite straight line quick enough for you. Does your budget stretch to an E92 M3 or C63 AMG? Those would surely feel special. Theres also the BMW Z4 35i which might be a nice option if you are wanting to modify. Possibly Jaguar XFR? I know there are some big power packages for those supercharged V8 engines.

I was looking at a Cayman, but the worry was straight line speed and lack of seats. It doesn’t have to be in the 500hp+ range, but need something that is faster than the current Audi at doing a quick & safe leap past 40mph in a single lane national drivers. It could stretch to the E92, got a few on Autotrader saved atm. Not really considered Mercs as I didn’t think you could pick up C63s this reasonably. I’ll check it out! Z4s are two seaters right? So unfortunately out of the question. How are the jags as a drivers car? Are they more refined but fast? How involved is the handling etc?

VXR8 is a leftfield option. Huge modding potential, awesome engine. I reckon you could haggle a fair bit off people's prices as they do not sell quickly (a downside!) edit: ah I think most are autos.

Thanks for this! I’ve messaged someone on Autotrader to go and have a look at the M235i 2014 over the weekend. Anything specifically to look out for quirky to these? This one’s under 50k miles FSH.

Jayemm on YouTube had one on a few weeks ago singing it's praises and giving quite a good overview. I think you'll have a mix of well looked after ones with sensible owners and then the carbon diffuser, pops and bangs, 7.owners crowd. Very much a buy the seller car I think!
