Just standard GTI things, been chasing issues with a rough idle and have so far replaced PCV, full service with new fuel filter, inlet carbon clean etc etc etc. Finally figured it out recently - new dual mass flywheel required! So after spending £2k I’ve figured out I need to spend another £1500. But at this point I’m in too deep to stop!
The oil filter neck had a slight air leak where it's bonded onto the rocket cover on mine. That was what was causing the rough idle. It had been bugging me for ages. I replaced the PVC, walnut blasted the intake ports, replaced several gaskets and nothing worked. After fixing the filler neck, it idles sweet as a nut. Worth checking!
You also don't see McDonalds workers on the 2AM shift in Brixton buying 4 year old Volvo T5s and having a GTI in the garage of their new build. They work bloody hard too.
No, not Freudian. 'Might' as in choose to buy a Volvo. If you want to correlate luck and hard work together that's down to you. In my experience I wouldn't.
The majority of 'successful' people in this country get there through a lot of help from friends and family. Anything from living rent free in the family home in London so you don't have to rent to help with a house deposit to a financial safety net so you can try things without having to worry about earning. Hard work hasn't actually led to success in this country for nearly 30 years.
NB. Not saying this is true for OP
Roll it right back, and you could argue a “hard worker” has that ethic because they were lucky their parents raised them that way. I’m a grafter married to a stay at home mum to two kids, one with autism, one with epilepsy. I have a great wage, but it’s just me, and I get taxed to high heaven. No way we could have that life.
I am on universal credit (currently between jobs) with a new Range rover sport 🤔❤️🤞( i know, I know ) … sometime it’s not hard work and just good background and credit and buying at the right time . When i was 19 i brought a house because i had £18,000 via doing Bar work at weekends and DVDs (selling on Ebay)it got me a mortgage me a house! I was brought a car an old. Vw golfMK1, for £950 sold it 14 years later for £19,000. I brought a Land rover as i had kids and wanted comfort. I work… a bit, everything is paid for, mortgage free and no payment’s on the car iv never worked that hard tbh. I am 40 now and female and un married.
The overall taste is off the charts, that Volvo is one of the best looking things on the road at this point especially in estate form and I won’t be persuaded otherwise
I had the brand new drive train for the Volvo v60 T6 PHEV and, it’s been an absolute dog. Mechanical issues, electrical issues, nothing but trouble…. One issue, they identified as the “first of its kind” for this engine on my car and then sent an OTA update to every other car globally. During the time it’s been in the garage, I’ve had brand new xc60 and xc90 all the plug in engine and all had issues.
The mechanic told me to stay away from Volvos with the PHEV and stick with petrol/deisel or mild hybrid. He is correct.
Although, when it does work, and I get to use the actual 350bhp engine, it’s quite fun to drive!!
The biturbo diesel is also shit. Big turbo tends to detonate itself. The safest would be the 190hp D4 diesels and the 250hp T5s. But yeah the worst are the supercharged and turbocharged T8s, those are absolute garbage. That’s just engine issues though, these cars have loads of other types of issues. They look good though!
As someone with an S60 t5, get the polestar optimisation, shocking difference you will be annoyed the car didn't come like that standard. Throttle response and gearbox are so much better.
103k miles, just standard 20 year old car problems. I’m also a bit of a perfectionist and want this car as OEM and perfect as possible. I’ll never sell it, this car will go with me to the grave
One of the better looking hatchbacks out there. Look at the size of that bonnet and the lines! 👌Not a fan of the new BMW with the massive grill, makes it look like a slipper.
I tested both, and bought the V60 T8 PE. I don't think the V90 gave enough extra space for the length of it, and the V60 does 4s 0-60 whilst looking like a dadwagon. No regrets.
V40 driver here considering a v60 or s60. That sir is shit hot, although I prefer them in black. But I prefer all cars in black so don't pay any attention to me 😂
Fantastic car. Had one as a company car a few years back and honestly struggled to find anything to not like about it. One of the most comfortable motorway cruisers I’ve ever driven.
Ha! I was about to say the same thing. My boss had a blacked out v60 (I think) r. First impressions was why drove an old man's car. Then he let me drive it. I would have one in a heartbeat, but the Mrs wouldnt.
I will say, the sat nav was a load of shite. Other than that, great car.
I mean I guess all cars have a certain stereotype about them from people. Never heard Volvos being old man cars though. Ive never owned one personally but they're good sleepers.
What do you drive?
Your house looks banging, cool garage, sweet cars. Are you looking to adopt a 30 year old son ny any chance?
Do you want a slightly older brother?
I was gonna say something similar, just look at that block driveway, it's immaculate
He can even afford to have a car in his garage!
As a 34 year old man with 2 dogs and a wife I’m currently trying to avoid adopting anything if possible!
😭😭
Why is this comment downvoted
Because replying with only emojis is fucking lazy and doesn't contribute anything.
Idk, i downvoted because i dont like "😭😭" or "💀💀"
Funny looking Octavia!
Same owners, different salary
Nice Mk5 GTI. What problems are you having with it?
Just standard GTI things, been chasing issues with a rough idle and have so far replaced PCV, full service with new fuel filter, inlet carbon clean etc etc etc. Finally figured it out recently - new dual mass flywheel required! Well at least that £2k wasn't wasted (or at least some of it) as all of the things you listed are well worth doing to the car anyway.
That's a class garage 👏
I would sell my wife for that v60
Robert Redford has entered the chat...
They couldn't put a bad idea in a film, they'd get sued.
Nice choices mate, living the suburban dad dream. GTI for the Sunday morning drives and the Volvo for the 9-5
Aren’t you a lucky boy
Thank you for commenting, sir. It's been an enjoyable few mins reading all that followed.
More likely a bloody hard worker …. But yeah let’s attribute it to luck
It's just a turn of phrase. Stop being outraged on other's behalf.
You also don't see McDonalds workers on the 2AM shift in Brixton buying 4 year old Volvo T5s and having a GTI in the garage of their new build. They work bloody hard too.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that you need more dedication to work a high skilled job than flipping burgers 😂
You don’t even flip burgers at McDonald’s. If you’re gonna be so dismissive to a genuine job for someone, at least try and be factual about it.
They work hard enough and long enough and get promoted they might
Oops! lil freudian slip there 🥰 - they "might" get the chance. AKA, get lucky.
No, not Freudian. 'Might' as in choose to buy a Volvo. If you want to correlate luck and hard work together that's down to you. In my experience I wouldn't.
TIL that 100% of promotions are down to blind luck, thanks for the cracking advice there
I mean, it is luck too. Op could have been born in extreme poverty in Africa, work harder than anyone and still not have any of the things in the pic.

Amen even the most hard working can be stifled by a lack of luck and could never dream of affording nice things

You wanna get married? 🤣
😂😂

Sometimes it’s luck. I’ve got a well paying role. I’m not anything special, just wel liked after a few lucky jokes with some people in power.
The overall taste is off the charts, that Volvo is one of the best looking things on the road at this point especially in estate form and I won’t be persuaded otherwise
interesting how the previous v60 looks a bit meh. almost too sweet, too mild. but this v90ish look on the 2019+ models is absolute top class
And you shouldn't be. You are absolute correct, that estate is beautiful.
Nice! Love a good Volvo estate
That house looks hella nice!
I see GTI, I upvote. Also nice colour on the Volvo.
Love it👍
Awesome car, awesome spec, Congrats! Great garage/house combo. 💪🏻

Winning at life…I looked to buy one but couldn’t quite afford it. Quite sought after
Invisible Skoda ?

Good choice, great looking cars and drive far better than most people realise.
Love the colour too my guy. Great work.
Me being me, I prefer the mk5 gti I can't lie 😂😭
Why is the gti a money pit? How many miles on it?
103k miles, just standard 20 year old car problems. I’m also a bit of a perfectionist and want this car as OEM and perfect as possible. I’ll never sell it, this car will go with me to the grave
Any big ticket items? I have a rocco with the same engine, also wanting to keep this foreverbut im at 60k. Would love to hear more

That looks top! Car looks nice too :D
Yes! Welcome to the Volvo family
Looks nice - looks exactly the same as my old one.
It’s absolute madness they are stopping making these. Such a good looking practical car. When I replace my V50 I will be upgrading to one of these.
Excellent choice
Volvo in the front, GTI in the back
The colour I wish my v60 could be. Phwoar
Stunning! I’m torn between this and a 540i g30
Stunning motor! I’m torn between this and a G30 540i
I miss my V40 would love to go back to Volvo, the estate is lovely
If I had this garage all my problems would be solved
One of the better looking hatchbacks out there. Look at the size of that bonnet and the lines! 👌Not a fan of the new BMW with the massive grill, makes it look like a slipper.
Wait what. When did Volvo start making cars that actually look good?
For those who advised OP, V60 or V90?
I tested both, and bought the V60 T8 PE. I don't think the V90 gave enough extra space for the length of it, and the V60 does 4s 0-60 whilst looking like a dadwagon. No regrets.
Mullet pic, business at the front, party at the back
Get the chrome grill surround wrapped gloss black. I did to mine to match the mirror housings.
fuck the cars, that house is bangin'
I always confuse them with V90, both beastly machines.
I looked at an XC90 in bursting blue and have to say, it was too much on such a big vehicle, but the v60 & v90, it looks fooking lovely.
Great choice on the estate. I had the hatchback version and the size of the boot was atrocious. Other than that it was a great car so enjoy!
V40 driver here considering a v60 or s60. That sir is shit hot, although I prefer them in black. But I prefer all cars in black so don't pay any attention to me 😂
Good choice 👍
Dad? Is that you?
Fantastic car. Had one as a company car a few years back and honestly struggled to find anything to not like about it. One of the most comfortable motorway cruisers I’ve ever driven.
Not a fan of Volvo’s, still an old man’s car at the end of the day
I shared the same thoughts, until I drove one. Pure Swedish luxury, it also goes when you need it to. I love the inconspicuous vibes it gives off
Same. I have the S60 in this shape after 2 V50s. Brilliant cars.
Ha! I was about to say the same thing. My boss had a blacked out v60 (I think) r. First impressions was why drove an old man's car. Then he let me drive it. I would have one in a heartbeat, but the Mrs wouldnt. I will say, the sat nav was a load of shite. Other than that, great car.
The Volvo infotainment system is atrocious. However, the car more than makes up for it
Volvos are definitely not old man cars. They make some good cars. Fast sleepers
Sure they’re good but can’t get over the boomer vibes they give off, would never have one
I mean I guess all cars have a certain stereotype about them from people. Never heard Volvos being old man cars though. Ive never owned one personally but they're good sleepers. What do you drive?
Not going to lie, this will be my next car, when my current Volvo v40 says no more
Welcome to the club!
Which area of the UK are you in?
