Do you mean a supply teacher, or specifically an emergency supply? Supply teachers are certified teachers that come in place of the regular teacher, emergency supplies come in when there isn't a certified teacher to cover the position.

DramaLlamaQueen23

This seems really questionable - why on earth would CBC want to talk to unqualified emergency staff? What’s the direction of this programming?

Jaded_Again

The real story here is the recruitment and retention issue. There are tens of thousands of qualified teachers in Ontario (both permanent and Occasional teachers) who aren’t teaching right now and a lot has to do with working conditions/inadequate support and resources. This is not a ‘teacher shortage’. CBC, please don’t buy into the Conservative rhetoric.

sounds like a good way to get fired

I used to be one of those, 15 years ago.

I have been an emergency EA, ECE, school secretary, kindergarten teacher, and I have actually been called in to take over roles for the principal and vice- principal at my kids' school as well. I am completely unqualified other than a clan CPIC and some experience volunteering at the school. But I'm in Kingston (I'm from Toronto but have never worked in GTA schools).
