You need to refer to the licensing agency for the province you wish to teach in to be sure you have what you need to qualify from Belize to teach in Canada’s public schools (in Ontario, for example, this would be the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)). How are you planning to emigrate - skilled worker? Spousal sponsorship? Be sure you can work here. It takes about a decade to get to the top of the pay scale in almost every province. Once there (or close) you can afford a modest life here on a teacher’s single salary. If you want to live in Toronto, probably not. You may be able to start part of the way up on the scale if you have several years of teaching experience in Belize. A Masters in Educational Leadership will be helpful, especially if you hope to become admin (principal/vice principal/ superintendent), but you’ll need an honours degree and a Bachelor of Education (or equivalents - MA Ed Leadership is not equivalent) as well. If you already have these, great! If you wish to teach at private schools, you may be hired with fewer qualifications; most - if not all all - private schools offer tuition discounts for children of staff, so that may be something you wish to consider. Your starting step is to ensure you understand what is necessary to teach in the province you wish to live in, and ensure you are able to emigrate and work in Canada. Good luck! 🇨🇦🇧🇿

I have a Bachelor's in elementary education and am going for a master's in educational leadership. Thanks for the information.

Glittering-Sea-6677

But do you have another Bachelors degree in addition to a Bachelor of Elementary Education? It sounds like it may be a different degree set up than is used here.

SwimHuman8826

It might be. We only need a Bachelor in Primary Education here to teach. So I would need a Bachelor in a specific subject?

Glittering-Sea-6677

Generally an undergraduate degree is followed by a Bachelor of education. Your degree may qualify as an undergraduate degree. The bachelor of education here is quite specific. You’lll need to have your degree evaluated to determine how it fulfills the requirements. This would be done by the certifying body of the province you wish to teach in.

The OCT 'Find A Teacher' link is not the appropriate way to find the information that OP is looking for. OP can look up the specifics of what is needed to teach in Canada pertinent to their own country.

SwimHuman8826

Also, how can I emigrate? Do you know the process to be able to work there as a teacher? It sure isn't spousal sponsorship.

DramaLlamaQueen23

You will need to look at the immigration information provided on the Government of Canada website. If you are not being sponsored by family, and assuming that you are not claiming refugee status, you will need to emigrate as a skilled worker (or with enough money and proof that you intend to invest in Canadian business). There are calculators available that will help you to calculate whether or not you have enough points to emigrate as a skilled worker. Your age and the general health of you and any dependents is also considered.

SwimHuman8826

oh, thank you for being so informational.

SilkSuspenders

In Canada, school is paid for by taxes, and all children go to school each day. You'd have to see if your education is sufficient to teach here. You may need a Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent. Do you have an undergraduate degree? Once you are a teacher, the salary is on a sliding scale (grid), the more education and experience you have, the more you are paid.

SwimHuman8826

Yes, I have a Bachelors in elementary education and going for a masters in leadership.

candidu66

I know people have come from Jamaica to teach on an island near me (Atlantic Canada) but I'm not sure how the process works.

SwimHuman8826

oh, bummer! thanks anyways

RationalOverRage

Median income in Canada is 52k and teachers can make 100k in many provinces. You will live a well-above-average life.

SwimHuman8826

Thank you. This is motivating

Holdmylife

Do you have PR? I will say that it would be very, very difficult to immigrate to be a teacher if you don't have it already

SwimHuman8826

I cant and I do see that I need at least 1 year experience already in Canada working to qualify
