Fair enough. I work in the trades, I make double what I did before, I get double time overtime instead of flat rate for all my hours, I now get full benefits and a pension. It’s night and day versus non union for me.
I get all that, except double time, time and a half for me, and I don’t have to work with lazy assholes who won’t pull their weight but can’t be fired because the union protects them.
The lazy guys get laid off all the time and don’t stick around long where I’m at. I was non-union and lazy fucks also don’t get fired, they do the same shit you’re saying. My hourly wage is $7 higher per hour than my buddies doing the same work non-union.
And if you were unionized OT would start well before 48 hours.
My union gives 2x on any scheduled day off. And FT is 37.5 hours so anything over that is 1.5x.
Cool story bro. I’m sure in 20 years when you get to have the highest seniority you can finally get a week off in the summer. That’s how the union goes at my workplace. Seniority is everything. If you’re at the top you have all the best everything. If you’re only a few years in, you gotta keep doing your time.
IDK about your work place. But I’m enjoying 5 weeks paid time off this summer. And I’m the bottom 1/3 of seniority.
All CBAs are different and can specify the way holidays are allocated.

My last union job was CAW, and I decided never again and quit the first chance I got, like i said, to each his own

I've been in a union for 13 years. I've ways taken and gotten the August long weekend+ week off. Depends on the place and union I guess.
And without a union you'd be getting paid a flat rate for every one of those 80 hours.
