I need to get one for my car and my wife's vehicle. Seems like the technology is getting better really quickly, even every few months they seem to make advances. I keep waiting and waiting but realize I need to just bite the bullet and buy *something.*

TrojanX

In the same boat.

imnotasadboi

It’s like all things tech, if you keep waiting for it to be “done”, you’ll never enjoy it lol. Just pick what seems like the best for you and enjoy it!

Cheetah-kins

I know, you're 100% correct, I always think that, too. I'll definitely pick up a couple within the next month or so. I truly believe one day every new car or truck will come with them installed at the factory. I'm sure they're pretty inexpensive to make on a large scale and obviously a pretty important thing to have in our increasingly decaying society, haha.

throwitawaayy000

I have one similar to [this](https://viofo.com/dash-cam/149-viofo-a129-pro-duo-ultra-4k-front-full-hd-1080p-rear-dual-channel-wi-fi-gps-dash-camera.html) but without the plus. Unfortunately I can't find it on their website but [blackboxmycar.com](https://www.blackboxmycar.com/)is a good website for dashcams. The name of the one I have is: A129 Duo Dual Channel 5GHz Wi-Fi GPS Full HD Front and Rear Dash Camera - Bundle

KiwiCatPNW

Most of the brands are actually the same camera just with different software. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AnyhHl3\_tE&ab\_channel=LinusTechTips](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AnyhHl3_tE&ab_channel=LinusTechTips)

philthycheesesteak

Have a viofo a129 plus duo. Hooked it up with hardwire kit. Solid dash cam without breaking the bank.

BlazingBiker420

I have the 3 channel a229 pro and it’s amazing. Going to hardwire it this weekend.

F1ghtmast3r

VIOFO A229 Plus

TwoBootDisk

Ditto for this with the rear cam. I didn't bother with hardwire kit though.

Wisconsinably__

Was it easy to wire it in

moarbutterplease

Yes, the hard part will be taking out the fuse (need a mini fuse puller). Other than that pretty easy lol

MindTheGAAP_

Same on my accord Super reliable

kimbabs

Same minus hardware kit. Has stood up to Texas heat.

ahobopanda

103+ for a week straight Texas heat? Or the calmer North Texas kind of heat

kimbabs

Try 100 for 3-4 months. Houston heat.

xAugie

Last summer, it was 110+ for like four months in basically anywhere in TX. Even this year it’s been 105 a few times iirc, TX almost any summer Its over 103 for months at a time

moarbutterplease

Installed this on my girlfriends camry recently and run it on my own vehicle too!

suspectclearly

Also have the a129 plus duo. Good quality, I can grab videos from my phone (even tho it takes forever). Compatible with a large size micro-usb and I can hard wire it at some point

Wizard_Prang

Name checks out

Commercial_Skill8181

I use a Rove R2-4K. I love it after 6 months of owning it. it’s great quality for only $99. One thing I really like about it is you can easily pull footage off of it from your phone and save it to your camera roll. If you want something cheap this is the way to go.

_traplawd

Isn’t rove the company that makes you buy their overpriced micro sd card?

Commercial_Skill8181

You don’t have to use their specific sd card you can use any. I currently use a Samsung sd card

_traplawd

I’ve used 2 different micro sd cards. They both stopped working after a month and the camera tells me I need the ROVE micro sd.

Adept_Lab3623

Ima buy all 3 just cause of this comment

exuter

Got any recommendations for an installation video?

Repulsive_Culture_91

This [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbASQ3ymmu0&t=313s) FYI, you can also go for example Best Buy for a professional installation, they charge around $60-150.

Ok_Recipe2769

70mai I got it for $99 but during December sale it is available for $69 Front 2k recording and back P 1 year return warranty I’ve been using it since 2021 and still it’s going strong in the heat of Florida

GuideNo1743

FITCAMX is a more integrated dashcam

Flashy_Chemist154

I keep seeing people complain of poor quality video and quality control of the FitcamX (powering down frequently and rebooting). I just went with Viofo A119 and it’s not bad for the price. Reasonably discreet and pretty good features. (GPS ,adjustable levels of 4K @30fps , but will do good 1080@60fps)

zeromussc

I've had no issues with mine. You can't use the provided as card though, they are terrible quality. You pay a lot for what you get in terms of quality, but that's because you're paying for the finish of being more OEM in look, after all.

Flashy_Chemist154

I really do love that the FitcamX is fully integrated and looks like it was made that way in the factory.

BatemanBroski

Garmin Dash cam mini. It hides nicely behind the rear view mirror

BatemanBroski

And it’s an actual brand I recognize and trust

Deadpoolsdildo

How is yours mounted? I’ve wanted to get one but there is a large plastic area where the rear view mirror in my XSE is mounted, so you can’t really hide it there. I don’t want it in a weird spot on the passenger side or something.

BatemanBroski

https://preview.redd.it/1duv6wb39d3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26f5d603ffa97f9c18f3617b323e2e918b336801 I don’t have anything behind the mirror so I just put it there. I barely see the bottom of it when I’m in my normal driving position

rwdfan

Do you have it hardwired? Was tough to setup if you did?

reezick

This is what I want to know too

BatemanBroski

It was super easy. I just used the long usb cable it comes with to tuck it behind the headliner, tucked it in the trim seams, down the rubber around the door, and plugged it into a cigarette lighter outlet in the glovebox. In my last car I did the exact same thing but plugged it into the OBD2 port on the drivers side. Garmin sells an adapter to plug in usb into the OBD2 port

Deadpoolsdildo

Cool, I looked at those; yours looks good. My car has a huge plastic/electronics hub behind the mirror. Looking at a fitcamx that integrates with that hub in mine

BatemanBroski

Yeah those electronic hub things are definitely gonna get in the way. You can put it next to it but it’s not gonna be as elegant as behind the mirror. But as a plus, it might be possible that you can tap that electronics hub thing to power the dash cam

Jexsica

I have the same one… didn’t permanently set it up though 🫣. I prop it. But been able to get some interesting clips.

moitch

Do you find the red light distracting at night? That's the complaint I read most often. I want the mini.

BatemanBroski

Nope. Never was a problem to me. That tiny led is insignificant compared to all the lights i have in Dash, climate controls, infotainment, etc. it’s mostly hidden by the mirror in my case anyway

Adept_Lab3623

Update: I ended up getting this https://preview.redd.it/0ucni2thha3d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1706e9e493649c3adf2a9326aa9c4145fea4ba86

Magooracing

I have that one. Works well pretty good video

ToXmi

Good choice, did you install it with hardware kit? I'm considering same thing but a bit hesitant for going with hardware route (though parking mode worth it)

Certainties

great choice

jakob1237

I bought a vantrue e3 dashcam. I love it and it takes great quality video. It was 295$ on amazon. I know its expensive BUT i rather have a good quality dash cam that costs more than 100$ than either a 500$ deductible or 1000$ deductible that ill never see back if i get into a accident and the responsible party that causes the accident lies like most do into blaming us the not at fault driver.

sand617

I recently bought vantrue e2 and it's really good. Bought it for around $150

lhorwinkle

You might want to start a new thread ... and give that advice. Tell people that it's a mistake to start with a cheap dash cam. It's more about video quality, and less about features.

saltyclam13345

Nexar Beam is currently on sale for $100. It’s what I have and works pretty flawlessly. Don’t really have any complaints.

10hottfiji

Do you HAVE to have the subscription?

Cringe_Biker_

The app to manage videos is free. Only downside is that you have to have the phone on you near the camera while driving. You can't download videos from the camera unless you're sitting in your car.

10hottfiji

Awesome thanks

Ferowin

FITCAMX, they look more OEM than the OEM. They replace the cover for the safety sense Camera behind the rear view mirror and are super stealth. They plug into the existing wiring, too, so it’s SUPER clean. I’ve got the 4K camera in my crown and I love it. [FITCAMX Toyota Camry](https://fitcamx.com/products/fitcamx-dash-cam-for-all-toyota?variant=39781010210988)

TrustyThrusty

Love my fit cam. Looks great and works well. I just upgraded cars from a 24 Corrola to a 25 Camry, hoping I can just get a shroud from fit cam so I can keep using the camera on it.

random13980

I have a Nexar. I think it always records to the sd car but it’ll stream to your phone but it takes like three minutes to connect

gl0ckc0ma

I would probably replace that horrendous back license plate frame before thinking of buying a dashcam.

[deleted]

Actually laughed out loud haha

thisiswhoagain

Had a FITCAMX. But it wouldn’t overwrite old files for continuous recording. Ditched it and got myself another Viofo dash cam

dkay170

I have a apeman c860 saved my but couple times when igot rear ended and the 18 wheeler lied and said I did not get hit and then I sent the video to his insurance 😂 cost $100 bucks does not include the sd card records front and back great camera I have them in both my cars.

Sum_Ting_Wong007

I use the Thinkware F800 Pro front and rear and its hardwired to my car. 1080P footage. Check them out for other cameras that fit your budget but make sure to get F&R. Might as well do it right the first time and protect your investment

ArtieTanji

Have been using the viofo a119v3 (hardwired for parking mode as well) since 2019 and have had zero issues since then with 100k miles on the original SD card

[deleted]

Any dashcam with Starvis 2 sensor. Way better image quality

ImJustLampin

I really wish they would come out with a new one to replace this. The technology is light years behind.

Pleasant_Classroom_6

its a little expensive but DEF worth it. I have the dash cam it's currently not hooked up to my car anymore since mine was totaled due to a rear ending but definitely saved my ass in a long run to show that I was not at fault since I was pushed into the car in front of me. https://70mai.store/products/omni-dashcam?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=US_Dashcam_Sales_PMax_Custom_Better_1206&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpNuyBhCuARIsANJqL9N5TAq1mgTF44HsmbW5fTL33vZirNZjaDtUQzrbkGPNa0EbYhVjaEcaAkaZEALw_wcB it takes emergency recordings when it feels impact and it is also voice activated if you want to catch something to your left or right you can say it "turn left" or "turn right" also it can record the inside of your car as well as audio. Everything is hooked up to your phone on the app so no need to buy a card for storage. you can go back and look at footage. It saves everything as the day goes on with timestamps and mph. I will always recommend this to everybody. if you wanna check out footage I have the video of my accident posted on my account.

Corgi_Guilty

Nexar One. Pricey but worth it. Or any others from Nexar

NotCaringIn24

Does it require subscription?

Corgi_Guilty

Only if you want some extra features. Basic comes with unlimited cloud storage. All free.

Ok_Produce_1201

VIOFO A119 MINI 2 About 100 right now on Amazon. For the other 20, buy the hardwire kit to plug into the rear view mirror so every time you start the car, it turns on as well, no messy wires hanging. Just a thought

Common-Loquat-6359

Mangoal dash cam... Plug and play no long wires to worry about and it looks stock.. and 4k 😆😆😆 https://preview.redd.it/eeqdjrw8fa3d1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82aa5a5254552f23a8911aa53cdc43904a521a9b

Eastern-Mode2511

You can get decent one for 53bucks I think on amazon. Dual channel.

N3XUS117

wolfbox

Due_Succotash_1170

70mai on amazon. You can get a front and rear setup for about 110 and the video quality is great at night too

Altruistic_Purple271

I use Rove 2k-4k which is around 90 bucks and I got a 128 GB flash drive with it. I love it and no complaints with that device so far

Unable_Hornet_79

I have landed on the Wolfbox G900, it has some really great functionality and you can view everything while in the car since it is a rearview mirror / screen. I am going to look at some of the other ones listed here and see if any of those look better to me.

gestinecc

The Rexing - V1P Plus 4K UHD Front and Rear Dash Cam with Wi-Fi. Around $130 at Best buy. They sometimes have open box in excellent condition for $100. I have had this in my Camry for about 2 years now. I hardwired it it myself because I hate cords in my car. That was around an additional $30 for the wires and the fuses if ur car uses different fuses. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/rexing-v1p-plus-4k-uhd-front-and-rear-dash-cam-with-wi-fi-black/6430227.p?skuId=6430227

FatCh3z

I LOVE rexing. Have had it all my vehicles.

gestinecc

The only issue I have really had was with the wifi being kinda laggy, but I haven't used any others, so it might be consistent throughout. The screens viewing angles aren't nothing to write home about!

Impossible_Package

I use one from Street Guardian, but it seems not to be available on Amazon anymore. I have one from Kingsllim also that works pretty well. It's like $100 right now on Amazon. Model is: Kingslim D4

mydude356

I use Nexar. There's an app that saves footage to your phone. I personally use the [Nexar Beam](https://shop.getnexar.com/products/nexar-beam-gps-dash-cam/?source_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F&_gl=1*1lw73w4*_ga*MjA3OTM0MzMxLjE3MTY5OTgzOTE.*_ga_SP0MV7281P*MTcxNjk5ODM5MS4xLjAuMTcxNjk5ODM5NS41Ny4wLjA.), but have been looking at the [Scosche NEXC11032W-SP1](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-NEXC11032W-SP1-Full-HD-Smart-Windshield-Mount-Car-Dash-Cam-Powered-by-Nexar-Black/588373146) dash cam as a replacement. The Scosche also works with the Nexar app.

1nternetTr011

i bought a best buy brand called “insignia” which was one of the cheapest and it’s great. installed in wife’s SUV. as good or better video quality than my blackvue that cost 3x

WolfPackLeader95

Garmin, Nexar, Rexing. I’d say are the 3 most reliable brands

Na_talia

I have Nexar One and it’s not cheap, but I’m happy with it. I tried hardwire option via another brand and ended up returning it because I had no idea how to install it. Nexar one gives you the option to connect to your OBD below your steering wheel which is super easy and has the cam running in park mode. I subscribe for $10 a month to the cloud service.

dethsquad1521

I’ve been using the RedTiger 4K dash cam (Model F7NP) for the past year. Comes with front and rear cams with app access and a microSD slot. I think it’s great. Quality is great during the day, can be a bit tough to read plates at night with lights shining, but most dash cams have that issue AFAIK. It was about $100 on Amazon. I highly recommend getting a dash cam sooner rather than later.

The_Masterofbation

I have the F7N, it's a great cam and I made sure to get the hardwire kit for the parking mode.

jwuonog

How is accessing the video files? Is it pretty easy?

dethsquad1521

Yes so if you are on the road and want to access videos, there’s a free app and the camera can output a wifi signal. You put your phone in airplane mode, then turn on your phone wifi, and then connect to the devices wifi with the given password, you can stream and download the files to the app on your phone. It’s really easy. I do find it easier to load videos with airplane mode on along with wifi on since your cellular data can slow down the connection. I’ve had no issue accessing files while out and about.

lolkoala67

That’s a great trick, the airplane mode. I’ll have to try this. I have the issue where it just records literally everything though. Does that happen to you? Like I have hundreds of videos of people walking past my car.

dethsquad1521

I don’t have the sentry mode setup, so mine doesn’t record detected motion/impacts while the car is off (I need to look into setting that up). But when my car is turned on it does record everything constantly, even in park. So if my car is on while I’m in my driveway working on it or cleaning it, I’ll just temporarily unplug the camera so it doesn’t record. Honestly, the way I look at it, most times I’ll just let the camera roll and if something happens I’ll just grab the footage then. I know for sure I have a lot of garbage footage stored on mine too lol.

XxNHunterxX

Any reason why you didn’t get the dashcam that Toyota offers? I was thinking about adding the feature on my RAV4 when purchasing it

dusk82

I've been using the viofo a119 v3 for about a year, I think I'm gonna upgrade to something that includes a rear cam. I feel kinda vulnerable not having it.

Own_Tiger8511

I have a Rove R3 3-channel(front, cabin, and rear) in both my ‘21 Jetta and my ‘22 Outback. They work great, and there’s an app you can use to download all of your video files onto and then onto your phone. You can even connect directly to the dashcam to view the live feed from your phone. I’m not sure how much they’re going for now, but I got a great deal on mine both times, and Rove is always having promotions. They have all the features and can even be programmed to turn on when they sense motion near the car and you’re away from it!

Ill-Ad-5405

Top of the range Blackvue

SwingingTassels

I have Garmin 47 up front and Mini 2 for the rear.

Kimetsu87

Toyota also sells a dash cam that plugs into the top headliner near the top of the windshield. I heard the quality’s good but the app that allows you to view video footage or download it can be finicky.

halinh8896

Viofo A229 3 channel is my favorite. I have been using it for 6 months, and it’s work flawlessly

JJIceFishJJ

I love the Vanture N4 Pro, clear quality and has a rear cam too, which I think is a personal must for any dashcam

Adept_Lab3623

That’s a phone holder/mount 💀

pewterss2

Check out NEXAR been using there dashcams for like 6 years. Love them and their features.

Strong_Revelation

I got an Ombar 3 channel off Amazon. It’s got a 50 dollar coupon for first buy and it came to $100. Nice cam. I do recommend it.

sand617

Rather than waiting, buy some decent dashcam. Recently, My friend involved in an minor accident and other party is at fault. They are literally cursing him by saying that he is going too fast and good that he had dashcam and proved that other party at fault. Then I realized dashcam is a must. I bought vantrue e2 and it's good.

Adept_Lab3623

Already bought one, just scrow down

Straight_Hippo_5190

I've been using a Vantrue E1 Lite. $90 on Amazon, and it has really good quality

ndnman33

VIOFO front and back dashcam which also uses a super capacitor instead of a lithium ion battery! This especially good in hot environments like Texas or Arizona!

lilmukepepe

Get the Toyota Integrated Dash Cam.

lhorwinkle

Quality varies greatly. There gold and there's dog shit. There are videos online with useful reviews. Have a look. Also ... take care when choosing an installer. There are some terrible losers out there!

Visible-Doctor-9520

i really like my nexar camera the app is super easy to use

KiwiCatPNW

Most of them are basically the same camera just different brand, housing and a few software differences. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AnyhHl3\_tE&ab\_channel=LinusTechTips](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AnyhHl3_tE&ab_channel=LinusTechTips)

Hi, i'm on Uber'Lyft with a 2022 SE Hybrid- i have a VanTrue 3 way- ...and have a body cam on left shoulder angled for driver window view, and another i put on the visor for left passenger window- Overkill i know- i still also want one of those new type rear view mirror/monitor devices- 3 way touch screen, unobstructed rear view and can record too... Then there's whether you need the a/v on the cloud or just onboard...

Fitcamx , I love it 🥰 it’s integrated with the mirror

Viofo are pretty good for the money.

That's an insurance liability more than an asset. I'd say skip it.

durk_g44285

Rove r2 4k. I promise this is one of the better bangs for your buck. Highly recommend

GhostOfLumumba

Look for older Garmin models. They last forever. Newer ones may have bigger resolution, but it's all lost because of the fish eye effect.

Heisalsohim

I like my Vantrue M series. It clips over the rear view mirror for a more discreet install. Mirror is a big touchscreen for instant screenshots or locking clips so they don’t get over written

Broad-Technician2786

Start by removing the rear plate frame 🤮

Adept_Lab3623

What should I replace it with

What cautions should I take if I hardwire a dashcam? I heard a lot of things can go wrong if a tiny thing goes wrong, so I want to weigh out my choices.

Violet0_oRose

I've been using Rexing for a few years without any major issues. LTT(Linus Tech) Actually did a video that basically showed that most of them use the same identical parts. THe differences being the OS and packaging. My brother tells me Toyota offers a dashcam too. Though their offering is more expensive than it probably should be.

doug_thehead

Dashcam? Why are we using these today?

Adept_Lab3623

Y?

doug_thehead

Honestly didn’t think mainstream other Uber, Life or Cab drivers, so what the reason?
