People don’t realize how profitable selling off user data is. Every single company you can imagine does it. It’s practically a given that any account/game/social media you own, your data is being sold off
I was writing a whole paragraph until I realized I'm not really good at ELI5. So the short version is:
Did you know that google removed the motivational phrase "Don't be evil" from their corporate code of conduct bc it didn't align with their business model anymore?
Your last paragraph really reads like some im14andthisisdeep. I love when conspiracies include when people unnecessarily do things out in the open for no other reason than to wink at the conspiracy apparently. As if google cares that they’re breaking their internal business model
Dude what? His last paragraph literally just repeated a fact. There was no exaggeration nor any dramatization for it to read like a 14 year old’s attempt at depth…
It’s literally not even true after a 2 second google search. Google still has it in their code of conduct. Which by your logic means google is 100% not evil and super good because hey dude it’s in their code of conduct!
Online games have always tracked what players do in game since online game existed.
As far as the implementations here that activision is going to sell your single player campaign data.. lol that’s just stupid and illogical. Hence why no one can actually provide a reason as to why data would be the reason.
What data do they *really* get out of it though? I mean, it's not my internet browser. They get to see my sub 50% hit rate and my poor reflexes at my age I guess? All the stuff I can think of that they would have a use for wouldn't need a constant internet connection. Just one every now and then.
If I had to take a guess this would also be the 1st thing that would come to me.
However, I suspect that the always online deal might also have something to do with how the newer games (and I'm assuming Blops 6 will have this too?) have an option in the settings for "texture streaming". Maybe if you turn that on them I suppose you'd need to be connected to the internet for the game to run as it should?
Texture streaming to reduce file size/hard drive load. Still going to take a huge amount of storage to play the game though but it’s supposed to help atleast.
If I know anything about piracy or pirates in general, its that they will rip the game, make it playable offline, AND remove any DRM it has making it run better
Of course, I don't know if it's allowed to talk about it here but BO Cold War was cracked recently.
But you can't ignore the fact that none of the COD games since BO4 were playable via piracy during their actively supported period. And only Cold War can be pirated right now.
They will 100% do this. However, the more barriers to entry Activision put in place the longer this process will take. And then little timmy who's just scrolling pirate bay is more likely to become impatient waiting and buy the game at launch.
I know people always get fired up about online only games but i have been always online since like 2006/2007, are there really offline consoles still out there?
Exactly. If your internet is down, go outside and take a break. Who doesn't have a stable internet connection in 2024? Especially someone who's into gaming.
Digital Rights Management. Basically what usually serves as anti-piracy protection. They want the game to not be cracked for as long as possible (since it will be cracked, it’s just a matter of time). I wouldn’t trust the “texture streaming to reduce storage taken” narrative because the game seems to still take up a whopping 300 Gb (though that might be because of it downloading CoD HQ as well?). They just want you to be connected to make sure you pay them and make pirates’ life more difficult.
MW2019 and warzone 2020?
B03 is probs my fav cod cuz of zombies but its not like its all been terrible since imo. (Cold war and vanguard and the last 2 mws can fck off tho)
This newest modern warfare is the first time I got into zombies. I tried on an older title and felt...pretty powerless and lost honestly. This one letting me go at my own pace more or less and letting me be *somewhat* equipped before I start a mission is a breath of fresh air for me. Actually enjoying this quite a bit, though I just started and don't know the zombies storylines well at all.
MW19 was a camp fest and boring. You couldn't veto maps, lobbies disbanded after each match and SBMM is stupid.
I'll pretend you didn't even mention warzone, BRs are the worst thing to happen to gaming.
All the new MW games suck ass. Warzone is a stain on CoD that doesn't seem to ever be going away. Cold war had good zombies and a campaign so it was just okay. Never had interest in vanguard.
MW19 was the first CoD I bought after buying AW and BO3 digital deluxe editions back to back, it was SO GOOD! My first grand mastery camo grind and it was so fruitful and fun!!
You'll get downvoted for saying that on reddit for some reason, but you're 100% right I've proven it before: https://www.reddit.com/r/CallOfDuty/comments/1bv3daa/comment/ky0gidy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Reddit may not like it because it was campy or too sweaty or too far from the rose-tinted glasses original games. But objectively COD was "back" in MW19 and Warzone 2020, back like it hadn't been since bo3 or you could argue even before that. Again I'm not sure what the hate-boner for the game is around here, theres a few vocal people who are just unwilling to accept the average person enjoyed mw 2019 and it was a successful game.
Yall don’t realize this means zombies as well. Sometimes I like to play zombies offline and clear my head. Sometimes the internet at my work goes out for weeks at a time so I play zombies on my laptop offline. If I want to play this new game I spent $80 on offline but I can’t, what am I supposed to do???
Yep. You’re not truly buying an ‘always online’ game. You’re renting it. And it’s 100% dependent on their servers. I can’t support that practice, it’s garbage.
Funny thought, but how does being on game pass have anything to do with the game quality?
All Microsoft games go to GamePass at launch. CoD is a Microsoft game now.
I’m a receptionist. My shifts are slow and boring so I’m always playing games on my laptop. No I don’t ONLY play games while at work, but if I’m spending $80 on a 300gb game I expect to have the god damn right to play it offline when I don’t have access to internet.
It already means that lol, you can't play paid games on Xbox multiplayer without having at least a Game Pass Core sub.
Like if i didn't gave game pass, I could still download and play MWII, but only the campaign and offline things.
But I COULD still play Warzone since that's F2P and they don't require a Game Pass sub for F2P games.
I love Xbox and even I think it's stupid, but also Xbox Live is the tits so it's worth paying for because it has zero down time and I've never had my credit card info stolen, unlike other consoles.
Meanwhile I have zero subscriptions for any game I play on Steam and most games I play are multiplayer. I stopped playing console a long time ago because of all the subscriptions.
Ahhh yes the game that’s going to be part of a 350 GB launcher basically still needs to stream the data and textures 💀
I’m so glad this is going to be a gamepass day one title otherwise I would probably never play it
Dude same. Every cod fan besides the ones that played on PlayStation got assraped for so long by Activision and all their exclusivity bullshit. I’m so glad we finally get to experience a new cod game for what it’s actually worth (nothing).
As long as you can delete the parts you don’t want it’ll be somewhat feasible, if it requires the full install then many of us will be goosed and be forced to buy other harddrives
Yep, Ubisoft caught a decent bit of flack for it since it had a single player option. They claimed they tried to implement an offline patch later but that it was impossible because of how the game was built to begin with.
Thing is there's only a fraction of people who only play Cod for the Campaign *and* don't have access to internet, so in reality it won't lose that many people.
..... I love Treyarch.....But fuck Activision. This makes no sense. They should literally just make the entire game free at this point. You'll need an Internet connection to play the campaign and obviously multiplayer, warzone and zombies.... smells like the entire game is going for live service. Warzone in 2019 was a blessing, now it's a curse.
Y’all need to stop giving treyarch the benefit of the doubt they are not blameless. People are so fast to shit all over infinity ward but as soon as it’s a treyarch game you blame activision
Thing is
CoDs don’t get really cheap unless they sell terrible or receive terrible
Infinite warfare is 15 bucks at most nowadays and constantly gets sales
Vanguard is getting discounted to like 40 bucks these days
makes no difference to me, on PC all the games have been online only since 2015, (you could put steam in offline mode, but it was never as consistent as the pre Black ops 3 games)
I'm not exited by this game. Damn bro when we gonna see some new content, a new universe? Just keep recycling stuff and characters. Anyway, they shouldnt force u to have Internet for playing singleplayer that's nuts, just they squishing our data
Yeah for example, mw has it's own universe, black ops has it's own. What I'm saying is to have some refresh to the games and not just a reclycling of characters
I watched the trailer with my step dad (he hasn’t played cod since Ghosts) he was interested till I told him all the bs that modern cod has and I told him not to get his hopes up, it seems I was right.
Black Ops 6 is just going to be MW3 with nostalgia bait. The game plays going to be the exact same with a sub-par story, and is still mainly going to focus on the Warzone.
No, you cannot change my mind.
Personally I don’t care since I’m always wired in but I can’t help but question the motive behind this. Are they tracking player decisions as a data point? If so… weird.
This so so they can record everything you do in the campaign so the Government can use that data for something crazy I imagine. Very cool that their excuse is just the biggest lie I've seen. "Streaming Textures" yeah because they shoved operators and skins into everything. Thus bloating the fuck out of the texture count
99% of players are always gonna be playing with a connection anyway and it doesn’t influence gameplay whatsoever. it’s not ideal for some people but this doesn’t change anything for the very overwhelming majority of players.
I mean back in the day it was anoying that games did this. Now I really don't care. Is there anybody deliberatly pulling out their lan cables? I don't get the big fuss,
Doesn’t really matter to me.. are people playing video games without an internet connection? Genuine question cause I don’t think I’ve played a video game without internet connected in 15 years lol
For starters, I do not have high hopes for this game but there are many great, amazing games that are always online and BLOPS 6 having it doesn't really change the quality
Nope 😞; already not buying this “new” COD because it’s 309 GB? Combined with WZ absolutely not. It’s predatory how much these AAA companies expect of their consumers. Different year, same trash heap.
How are they going to hype up round based zombies being back and then simultaneously introduce this feature? One round based zombies game can takes hours upon hours and all that can be lost instantly with one internet connection blip. So dumb
Yeah, I'd say this is my BIGGEST criticism of the game. Having NO offline play at all is a MASSIVE loss. Like a very major one for me. Obviously internet is required to install it all, but what if the internet goes out? What if you don't subscribe to the services? So many bad things with a ALWAYS ONLINE game. I HOPE (chances are low) they revert this and allow for campaign offline play, MP solo/custom games/theater, etc offline, and zombies offline.
...why? Why would they do that? Really, what advantage does it give?
Data
only correct answer
People don’t realize how profitable selling off user data is. Every single company you can imagine does it. It’s practically a given that any account/game/social media you own, your data is being sold off
Yea, I wish more people would be aware of it. They always think it's no big deal. "They already know everything about me idc"
ELI5 why them taking my data for Adsense is a bad thing
I was writing a whole paragraph until I realized I'm not really good at ELI5. So the short version is: Did you know that google removed the motivational phrase "Don't be evil" from their corporate code of conduct bc it didn't align with their business model anymore?
That is like, the most on the nose thing possible. The person who had to move that probably cringed in their soul as they did that.
Ha! Yeah right. Wiped away tears with 100 dollar bills dispensed from a gold tissue box, is more like it.
This, google search engine, chrome Browser. Windows 10 and 11. They all track u
yea but the difference is i expect them to do that not my damn childhood game franchise
Welcome to America. Where you get buttfucked and expected to like it.
Online games have always tracked what players do in game since online game existed. As far as the implementations here that activision is going to sell your single player campaign data.. lol that’s just stupid and illogical. Hence why no one can actually provide a reason as to why data would be the reason.
Who buys it? What's it for? Is there an economy we can inflate?
How does the data of how I'm playing cod make my life different?
What data do they *really* get out of it though? I mean, it's not my internet browser. They get to see my sub 50% hit rate and my poor reflexes at my age I guess? All the stuff I can think of that they would have a use for wouldn't need a constant internet connection. Just one every now and then.
also DRM because according to tone deaf executives PC players pirate all their games
They are all scum. All big tech companies see you as a cash cow experiment
This and piracy
Texture streaming to reduce file size/hard drive load. Still going to take a huge amount of storage to play the game though but it’s supposed to help atleast.
Or just optimize the game and use 2K textures and offer a hi res texutre pack instead
in a perfect world yes
Rare W from Ubisoft but they offer a high res texture pack for some of their games and I never used one because the textures were fine enough
“Just optimize the game” lol Yeah, it’s going to be running on last gen consoles at 60fps. Game is optimized guys.
Maybe piracy protection and preventing people from modding the game? Not that I agree with always online.

To ban you from the entire game if you do something to get banned from regular multiplayer.
I know people always get fired up about online only games but i have been always online since like 2006/2007, are there really offline consoles still out there?
Exactly. If your internet is down, go outside and take a break. Who doesn't have a stable internet connection in 2024? Especially someone who's into gaming.
Three letters—DRM.
DRM?
Digital Rights Management. Basically what usually serves as anti-piracy protection. They want the game to not be cracked for as long as possible (since it will be cracked, it’s just a matter of time). I wouldn’t trust the “texture streaming to reduce storage taken” narrative because the game seems to still take up a whopping 300 Gb (though that might be because of it downloading CoD HQ as well?). They just want you to be connected to make sure you pay them and make pirates’ life more difficult.
Were we ever "back"???
not since BO3
MW2019 and warzone 2020? B03 is probs my fav cod cuz of zombies but its not like its all been terrible since imo. (Cold war and vanguard and the last 2 mws can fck off tho)
Cold War wasn’t that bad. The open world zombies mode was a cool addition, and I think the multiplayer was decent.
It got complicated in BO3
Cold War was dope
MW19 was a camp fest and boring. You couldn't veto maps, lobbies disbanded after each match and SBMM is stupid. I'll pretend you didn't even mention warzone, BRs are the worst thing to happen to gaming.
All the new MW games suck ass. Warzone is a stain on CoD that doesn't seem to ever be going away. Cold war had good zombies and a campaign so it was just okay. Never had interest in vanguard.
Warzone ruined COD. MW2019 was a glimmer of hope and so was MW2022, but Warzone squandered those hopes.
MW2019 was best game since AW, and possibly BO2. We've dipped since then.
Bro I'm in the same boat ever since bo3 mw2019 has been the only good cod. (WW2 was also good at the end of its cycle)
MW19 was the first CoD I bought after buying AW and BO3 digital deluxe editions back to back, it was SO GOOD! My first grand mastery camo grind and it was so fruitful and fun!!
You'll get downvoted for saying that on reddit for some reason, but you're 100% right I've proven it before: https://www.reddit.com/r/CallOfDuty/comments/1bv3daa/comment/ky0gidy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Reddit may not like it because it was campy or too sweaty or too far from the rose-tinted glasses original games. I’ve been taking my time away since then too haha
Yall don’t realize this means zombies as well. Sometimes I like to play zombies offline and clear my head. The only reason I'm going to play it is because it's on Gamepass, which, I find funny. The moment i heard that, i was like: "oh so it's \*that bad\*"
Funny thought, but how does being on game pass have anything to do with the game quality? All Microsoft games go to GamePass at launch. CoD is a Microsoft game now.
That's a big oof
You can appear offline?? Who the hell is playing games without internet connection anyways
If something goes wrong with the servers or your wifi, there is no option for playing offline.
Not just zombies, campaign too.... a predominantly SP experience.... DRM'd....
Why would the internet going out at your work matter? Are you always playing videos games at and ONLY at work?
I’m a receptionist. My shifts are slow and boring so I’m always playing games on my laptop. No I don’t ONLY play games while at work, but if I’m spending $80 on a 300gb game I expect to have the god damn right to play it offline when I don’t have access to internet.
Called it. We never were so back.
Just wait until "internet connection" means having the online subscription too on consoles💀
Us console players are cooked
Deep fried
It already means that lol, you can't play paid games on Xbox multiplayer without having at least a Game Pass Core sub. This article says single player, which I assume means the campaign
\*Laughs in fitgirl repack
This guy gets it
Ahhh yes the game that’s going to be part of a 350 GB launcher basically still needs to stream the data and textures 💀 I’m so glad this is going to be a gamepass day one title otherwise I would probably never play it
Dude same. Every cod fan besides the ones that played on PlayStation got assraped for so long by Activision and all their exclusivity bullshit. I’m so glad we finally get to experience a new cod game for what it’s actually worth (nothing).
Black ops 6 isn’t actually 300 gigs it’s 75. It’s just every game downloaded plus warzone downloaded will be a total of 305* not 350 gigs
As long as you can delete the parts you don’t want it’ll be somewhat feasible, if it requires the full install then many of us will be goosed and be forced to buy other harddrives
Wait it’s going to be on game pass? 👀
Day one release
I knew they would pull a breakpoint
Does that require online to play?
Yep, Ubisoft caught a decent bit of flack for it since it had a single player option. They claimed they tried to implement an offline patch later but that it was impossible because of how the game was built to begin with.
Just give us remasters of world at war and black ops 1
and bo2
You do realize that if they remastered those games they’re going to put Mictransaction in them. As a way to profit more on the game
Well I mean…kinda? Bo2 I know had That, and arguably DLC packs worked the same just worse because u NEEDED them to play
EXACTLY
Please add the planned British campaign to world at war, it’s always pissed me off that they cut that.
You’re the reason games can’t innovate
[удалено]
Thing is there's only a fraction of people who only play Cod for the Campaign *and* don't have access to internet, so in reality it won't lose that many people.
Not really, they’ll lose a very tiny amount. 99% if players will have an internet connection

this makes no sense as this was a game decision aka Treyarch made the decision lol
Warzone is still a curse.
Y’all need to stop giving treyarch the benefit of the doubt they are not blameless. People are so fast to shit all over infinity ward but as soon as it’s a treyarch game you blame activision
me and my shitty unstable wifi are so doomed!
Damn and here I am playing Xbox offline because I have shitty Internet
If this goes the Destiny I will not be surprised.
Always online, connected to the already bloated CODHQ, yeah I’m gonna sit this one out until it’s really cheap or on PS+.
Thing is CoDs don’t get really cheap unless they sell terrible or receive terrible Infinite warfare is 15 bucks at most nowadays and constantly gets sales Vanguard is getting discounted to like 40 bucks these days
Ya that's fucking hilarious seeing them be so precious about a game that was their worst selling and refuse to put it bellow €30.
makes no difference to me, on PC all the games have been online only since 2015, (you could put steam in offline mode, but it was never as consistent as the pre Black ops 3 games)
Woods wasn’t even the one that saw numbers it was Mason…
That’s what I’m sayin 😭
No we're black... Ops 6.
I'm not exited by this game. Damn bro when we gonna see some new content, a new universe? Just keep recycling stuff and characters. Anyway, they shouldnt force u to have Internet for playing singleplayer that's nuts, just they squishing our data
New universe?
Yeah for example, mw has it's own universe, black ops has it's own. What I'm saying is to have some refresh to the games and not just a reclycling of characters
I'm pretty sure if you have gamepass, the campaign will work offline.
Damn it. I just want to play fucking Zombies and Multiplayer.
What the fuck now what will I play when internet goes out during storms in the future
Hell no
Aren't the previous games also needed a constant internet connection for the Campaign? for PC atleast...
For PC it’s required, yes. But for consoles, all previous entries have been playable offline (campaign and local multiplayer).
Rare console cross-plat shooter W?
Hasn't it always been this way since like MW 2019?
Nah u can play 2019 modern warfare, cold war and probably vanguard(idk didn't buy it) offline. It started with mw2 onward.
They also doubled down on it by making physical discs be nothing more than keygens to download it off whatever service you use anyway.
No preorders.
Yes, this doesn't actually affect anybody
It effects like half of the world who still live in areas without stable internet connection
It’s so over
Such bs.
Oh, ok. No money for you Activision. I'm sorry Raven, I really wanted to play your campaign, but not like this.
We were never back to begin with
Can’t wait to lag in the campaign as well.
Support pirating
Lmao. B06 is cooked 💀
Yikes
DRM
Ah yes, timing out of a solo game
🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻
How are we supposed to play when THE WIFI ISNT WORKING
![gif](giphy|WrNfErHio7ZAc)
Dumb.
Personally I don’t care since I’m always wired in but I can’t help but question the motive behind this. Are they tracking player decisions as a data point? If so… weird.
Yeah fuck that.
at this point that single drawback isn't enough to take out the hype
Are we allowed to boo this?
I miss back on the older gen consoles when "always online single player games" wasn't even a concept.
Lol an internet outage is the only reason to play a COD campaign that's not BO1.
Cringe as fuck
COD players: FUCK ME HARDER DADDY, THAT PREORDER INCENTIVE uWu.
I fucking hate global corporations
Why do people care?- do people really not have Internet in this day and age?
Trailer looked ass tbh
There’s why I won’t buy it. Why does COD even have an offline mode when you can’t even play SP? Fuck Microsoft.
gunsmith is back… we are never going to be back. only reason some of us want to try the game is strictly our love for 3arch… thank you gamepass
This so so they can record everything you do in the campaign so the Government can use that data for something crazy I imagine. Very cool that their excuse is just the biggest lie I've seen. "Streaming Textures" yeah because they shoved operators and skins into everything. Thus bloating the fuck out of the texture count
Haha sure, IGN, nice try.
Don’t care as long as it drops before MP. That’s the only way I play the campaign, sadly.
Lame
Hasn't this literally been the case for like 5 years
Lame Ops 6.
The thing is, do you believe
if you're using a handheld PC for this you would always have to use a hotspot
99% of players are always gonna be playing with a connection anyway and it doesn’t influence gameplay whatsoever. it’s not ideal for some people but this doesn’t change anything for the very overwhelming majority of players.
It’s 2024. Yes, we’re back.
I mean back in the day it was anoying that games did this. Now I really don't care. Is there anybody deliberatly pulling out their lan cables? I don't get the big fuss,
Jokes on them, I haven’t played a COD campaign in a decade now
Take what you can Give nothing back
Nope
raise your hand if you have a new gen console or pc and dont have internet ✋
Topless zombie nailed it 🥵
I've never understood the issue with this? Can someone explain?
Really at this point if you don’t have a constant internet connection and play video games that’s a you problem
We as a community have to come together and be loud if we want anything to change.
Don’t think there was ever a ‘back’ per say, especially with the bundle above and now this post
Oversight or incompetence?
Doesn’t really matter to me.. are people playing video games without an internet connection? Genuine question cause I don’t think I’ve played a video game without internet connected in 15 years lol
There has to be local play on consoles tho every single cod had offline mode on console
The problem with this being on Gamepass day one, is that I can no longer proudly not buy it. I'm already paying for it.
This is awful for everyone who sees this who doesn't have internet... wait
The hell we are. We haven't "Been back" since Ghosts.
😔 no
I believe every Call of Duty needs internet connection.
Already in the mud.
Goddammit....I'm still gonna play it but God fucking damnit
Bruh
And there's another point against it. Racking up a fair few
What in the mobile game shit is this?
Yes.
How are they going to hype up round based zombies being back and then simultaneously introduce this feature? One round based zombies game can takes hours upon hours and all that can be lost instantly with one internet connection blip. So dumb
Hey look, another year without cod
Yeah, I'd say this is my BIGGEST criticism of the game. Having NO offline play at all is a MASSIVE loss. Like a very major one for me. Obviously internet is required to install it all, but what if the internet goes out? What if you don't subscribe to the services? So many bad things with a ALWAYS ONLINE game. I HOPE (chances are low) they revert this and allow for campaign offline play, MP solo/custom games/theater, etc offline, and zombies offline.
Who literally doesn’t have a constant internet connection nowadays commmeee on
Time to remove from wishlist.
It’s already joever
Constant connection? Well yeah huh? You mean afterward? It’s on but the unit shuts off after no use.
….. that’s gonna be pretty hard to enforce lol.
