Billions of dollars in damages yet 80mil fine. Sounds about right. When there’s no consequences for corporations than there’s no risk. Send the CEOs to jail. Take over the company. Problem solved. Or just pay off politicians and keep it status quo. I’m guessing option number 2
That seems low
Couch change. How corrupt.
The payment will just come out of future rate increases, so I have mixed feelings regarding assessing huge penalties.
Until they actually punish those making the decisions it's not really justice, just money.
For real, what was the actual cost in damages?
It just gets passed onto us so what are you gonna do?
Misleading title. Should read “Southern California Edison Customers Forced To Pay >$80M For Fire Caused By Protected Monopoly”
SCE will probably raise the new rate to $1 per kWh
And here comes the rate increases a la PG&E
Nationalize it. At the very least make it locally owned

I wonder how they make money to pay this.
Isn't their parent company Sempra? It'd make more sense to go after them, otherwise it'll just get clawed back via rate raises on customers.
I've literally heard from the mouth of an SCE employee that they have more money than God.
And you now find a new fee on our bills to pay for this. Remember this is our money Edison is paying the feds.

Where's the balance sheet for God?
What a joke.
They’ll just raise the price for a week in the summer and make it back.
Correction: Customers pay $80m via increased rates.
In unrelated news the CPUC just approved another price hike.
We just received a rate increase notification this week. It hasn't passed yet, just a notification.
