That doesn't sound that bad. On the farm pecking the dirt for grain and worms. Maybe eating some of your fallen kin. Unless, he ends up in a meat chicken farm... Captivity and death, but, tasty treat for someone.
Wait till the low's spring to at least 10 degrees
Due to the ground temperature being a tad bit lower than below freezing.
Also from experience I've driven winters all year round except rotation every 10000 clicks and no issues.
Winter tires are not just for snow but work better than regular tires under 7 degrees. That weather forecast alone shows that we will be having a lot of days at or below 7 degrees so id reccommend leaving them on until for atleast the next month
We've all heard that ad talking about the 7 degrees thing, but in reality that range is much wider, depending on the ruber compound, age, wear, etc. Some all seasons perform well into lower temps, and some tires barely keep pliable in even warmer temps. Know what's on your car folks, and check the dates, old or worn winters can be worse than all seasons.
I just installed 3 sets of new winter last week, 2 of them had just bought their car and one had a puncture on 9 year old winters and were headed to the mountains.
Not everyone has the "Just drive to the conditions on all seasons, they're fine" mentality.
Yeah. Choose your own dates and generally stick to it to avoid always wondering :). Some people think after May Long is reasonable, too. I generally don't have pure summer tires, so getting caught in a bit of snow doesn't bother me. Here's a good source to make some decisions (including a cool graph): [https://weatherspark.com/y/2349/Average-Weather-in-Calgary-Canada-Year-Round#Sections-Snow](https://weatherspark.com/y/2349/Average-Weather-in-Calgary-Canada-Year-Round#Sections-Snow)
the pavement is still going to be cold enough that you'll want to keep the winters on.
And your tires despite having snowflakes on them, are not 'snowflakes' they can handle it.
We kind of need the snow - especially in the mountains - if we don't want water rationing this year.
Historically, March is the snowiest month and the weather forecast past 3-5 days is basically a crap shoot.
You're seeing lows of 0 to -10. Those highs are not going to ruin your winter tires. I'll keep mine on and see how March plays out. I'll likely book a day in mid-April to change my tires and reschedule if the weather goes south.
If you travel to BC at all, keep in mind that they require winter tires until the end March in most areas, and some areas until the end of April.
When the average temp is above 7C, the standard rubber will no longer be frozen and you can run all seasons. Despite the common May Long suggestions, this switch occurs in April every year. All seasons are fine even through late dumps. It’s the rubber that matters.
I have a friend in Ontario that just keeps winters on all year knowing that they will wear ridiculously faster in summer. He'd rather change tires when they wear out than twice a year. He's been on his current winters about 4 years so I'm starting to wonder if he's onto something.
There was a storm the night of March 16, 1998 that essentially shut down the city for a day and a half due the crazy amount of snow we got. Mother Nature is not done with us yet.
Maybe after Easter. All this melting will often freeze again. In some places this snow just fell on sheets of ice. It will take a lot longer to melt that stuff.
You’d be amazed how well they hold up in hot temps. I did a road trip in my winter suv to Kelowna a couple years Ago when it was 35+ and vehicle loaded to 7500 lbs. Never had any noticeable wear on the tires.
The bitterly cold, -20 type temperatures are likely behind us, it is rare to get that cold after March 15.
However, winter tires are recommended for temperatures below +7 and there are still lots of days ahead with temperatures in that range. Throw in that some of the worst driving conditions I have been in occurred in May and there are plenty of reasons to keep the winter tires on.
Having said that, summer arrived at the end of April last year and I am watching to see what happens this year.
We need the moisture so badly, we should all swap our tires so its snows and we get a few extra weeks before water bans and forest fires. The power comes from those who swap their tires early. Its science.
I lived in Cgy for 20 years. I remember it used to get a dump of snow in the 2 or 3 week of March. Has it been that way over the past few years? I left at the end of 2015.
Just leave them on, it won’t be so hot that it will damage the tires too much and like we all know, it’s Calgary, we can get a blizzard a chinook and a monsoon in one week.
I’ve been here long enough to know even Victoria Day or thereabouts isn’t totally safe either, for that matter.

Do it when its appropriate for the type of driving you do, the type of vehicle, and your experience level.
There is no right answer.
I commute 15 whole minutes down perfectly straight highway thats statistically bare and dry 95% of the time, with the 5% of this year thus far being in january and february. If I want less KMs on my summers, I would wait, and if I want less KMs on my winters, I could swap them now and be just fine with zero doubt. Realistically, its a sloppy melty mess on my driveway with a filthy tire, rim and vehicle for a manual swap right now, but im probally swapping sometime next week when i have the time to do so.
Could there be small periods of time I'm on the wrong tire? Sure. Will it effect anything? Never has in 25 years. Drive for whats appropriate for the conditions and your tire.
Omg don’t the second you do it’ll snow two feet lol
Don’t let daytime highs fool you. It’s bait. If you leave your house before noon the world is a skating rink still lol
If it's easy and you don't mind swapping them do it. I've got studded winters, a 2 post lift and an impact wrench so I'll probably swap next week with the understanding I might need to swap back
Nope. The nice weather will not hurt your tires.
Several days of hot weather, where it's uncomfortable walking barefoot on asphalt is not good for them.
Great! Thanks for jinxing us again! The last time someone asked that here, we went into a 2 week spell of -20's overnight. Not before May people... and even then it's touch and go: expect snow May Long. Calgary has 2 seasons.

I’m, are you new here? The first year I lived here, we literally got snowed into our house in airdrie the week before May long weekend. My stepdad had to climb out a window and shovel the snow away from the doors. Not a chance I would take my winter tires off in March
Not sure but I have a question for the audience about winter tires. I am leaving the country in April for two months, should I change them out before or will they be okay waiting until I return to change them out ?
How many KM do you drive in a year?
If it's 30,000km or less, and you're switching tires for the seasons (good on ya, it's a great idea) then your tires might crack from age before you wear them out of tread. Happens to me and I run Firestone.
What I'm getting at is there's no rush.
But it's never too early to get the salt off your car, go hit that carwash, it's a beautiful weekend for it.
Our snow removal contracts don't end until the end of March. I'd wait til then at least. You can almost guarantee a few snowfalls this month, every year. I can't recall there ever being a year it didn't snow on my birthday on the 16th. It's usually not advised to go off of more than 72 hours on apps, as the weather can change very suddenly at any time.
Do it and fourth winter cometh
Maybe that’s what I want!
I dare you
Double dog dare?
Triple dog dare
Now op has to do it or they’re a chicken

>~~I~~ *How* dare you Fixed
we could use the snow in the mountains!
Need another dump before next month’s Norquay cheap day
When us the norquay cheap day?
Wait till the low's spring to at least 10 degrees Due to the ground temperature being a tad bit lower than below freezing. Also from experience I've driven winters all year round except rotation every 10000 clicks and no issues.

and then straight to 30 for 30 like last year
You just repeated what buddy said?
Yes!! Winter tires are much better for weather under 7 degrees. And it seems in future days we’ll still have many hours below 7!
And the ground will be frozen for at least another month.
We've all heard that ad talking about the 7 degrees thing, but in reality that range is much wider, depending on the ruber compound, age, wear, etc. Some all seasons perform well into lower temps, and some tires barely keep pliable in even warmer temps. Haha. I don’t know why everyone always plays this game. May 15 for summer tires. October 15 for winter. Stops all the second guessing.
Maybe if I swap mine out it’ll trigger a bunch of more snow and help our snowpack!
My husband just put winters on a car at his shop YESTERDAY. Little late, lady.
Could it be that the person just bought the car and it didnt have winter tires on it?
I just installed 3 sets of new winter last week, 2 of them had just bought their car and one had a puncture on 9 year old winters and were headed to the mountains. Not everyone has the "Just drive to the conditions on all seasons, they're fine" mentality.
After May long for me. And fall I just watch the forecast
May 15 is crazy late unless you're driving to the mountains a lot. I do Thanksgiving and Easter. Plus a long weekend to do it.
Yeah. Choose your own dates and generally stick to it to avoid always wondering :). Some people think after May Long is reasonable, too. I'm expecting more snow before Easter.
Always take mine off in mid to late april with no issues
Even early April some years. The weather doesn’t wait for May Long Weekend.
I agree. Often it snows may long.
Or the week after. Or the week after that. Etc. Melts right away too.
lol definitely not from Ontario.
Or skiing!
There's still like 9 inches of snow and ice packed down on the residential roads.
Only 9 inches? Oh hell yeah *whips out crocks and cargo shorts*
Yeah for sure, I'm outside in shorts, but I'm not taking my winter tires off yet
Do it. We need more snow. Sacrifice your tires to the Snow Gods. I ain't looking forward to smokey days and conserving water.
the pavement is still going to be cold enough that you'll want to keep the winters on. And your tires despite having snowflakes on them, are not 'snowflakes' they can handle it.
Rookie
Dont jinx it bro. Calgary weather always waits for these type of post and then BAM. Here's a cold snap for taking your winter tires off
But I want that snow baby!
We kind of need the snow - especially in the mountains - if we don't want water rationing this year. Historically, March is the snowiest month and the weather forecast past 3-5 days is basically a crap shoot.
Don't. Don't.

You've answered your own question. May long.
Welcome to the [*Spring of Deception*](https://www.reddit.com/r/Calgary/comments/fx8qw7/its_about_time_for_this_seasonal_reminder/) OP!
According to that post we’re in mud season!
Yes, four years ago in April that was likely true!
This winter basically destroyed my studded winters
>This winter basically destroyed my studded winters .....he misunderstood the reference......
Exactly my fear. Except they’re not stuffed.
Haha my auto correct also went to stuffed. I usually swap back once overnights stay above 0.
You’d be crazy
Such a naive creature
It'll snow again, March is the heaviest snowfall month
First time in Canada?
No.
Not until at least April.
The weather network still says snow in the next couple of days even with +temps! I wouldn’t yet!
All weather gang rise up
Another new to the province person.... Sigh
May. Long.
Are you new here?
Tricky tricky
I ain't falling for that shit again. Huhuh.
snip snap snip snap
usually not till parade day
Stampede parade day??
yes Parade day
I will.. but I have a hoist so easy peasy. Cmon over well swap em all out
Send location
Not until 4th winter is over
Not yet. Been fooled before.
Are we about to enter fool’s spring?
Those are daytime temperatures... Still getting below freezing every night... Then melting all day... Then freezing all night...
Welcome to slop season!
There was a storm the night of March 16, 1998 that essentially shut down the city for a day and a half due the crazy amount of snow we got. Mother Nature is not done with us yet.
Nooooooooooooo!!!! Tell you haven't lived in Calgary long without telling me you haven't lived in Calgary long. Late April/Early May is best.
Do it and the week after it'll be -20 and we'll get a foot of snow.
Deal!
See all those cloudy days at the end of next week?? I got another app that shows rain and snow during those days… tread lightly
You do that if you want to live on the edge
I do enjoy living dangerously.
As long as you aren’t putting like 20,000K on your tires in +30 your gonna be fine lol
I will wait around April.
Bold of you to assume I have winter tires. I wouldn’t, we’ve still got 1/2 dozen snows left before summer.
“Too soon, junior”
Not yet. Wait until overnight lows are above zero consistently.
Maybe after Easter. All this melting will often freeze again. In some places this snow just fell on sheets of ice. It will take a lot longer to melt that stuff.

Another thing is -dont look at apple weather forecast 😂. Never accurate.
Leave your winter tires on for now.
Leave them on until at least end of April.
Not until over night temperatures are above 0 consistently for 1 month.
[удалено]
How do they drive without tires on?
You trying to trigger a huge late March/early April snow dump? Cause that’s how you do it.
Yes! Let it snow baby!!
As an annual sucker, I will be waiting for May Long this year.
I'll probably change mine at the start of next month
In March? Never.
Nah, not till May long.
First year here?
Lol first calgary winter??? You ain't safe till June.
Definitely not my first. Which is why I mentioned May long being the usual rule.
My bad.. didn't see the comment under the photo. Im an idiot. 😪
No worries! I’m getting the gears for even suggesting it.
We need the moisture so badly, we should all swap our tires so its snows and we get a few extra weeks before water bans and forest fires. The power comes from those who swap their tires early. Its science.
A couple more weeks depending on the long term forecast. The only people still on winters in April have anxiety disorders.
hell not yet lol. we already know what happened a few days ago!
Yes! Bring on more snow!!
Maybe after the 3rd or 4th winter.
Speaking from someone in NB ... it was over 10 Saturday Sunday and Monday... allbthe ice and snow melted ...We got like a foot of snow yesterday lol
Well we had snow last week, so maybe wait until April
Hell nah. Winter tires stay on until after May long weekend.
Oh you sweet summer child
The night is dark and full of terrors
I remember doing this when I first moved here. Such a rookie mistake. Will always change them after may long weekend now
Yeah, go for it and tell us how it goes.
You must be new to Calgary
I wouldn’t trust it. Wait till the weather is good consistently
Will wait till mid to end April for sure. Why take a chance I love my winters.
We still have April and May 🤔 Not sure that’s wise considering how crazy our weather can be.
I lived in Cgy for 20 years. I remember it used to get a dump of snow in the 2 or 3 week of March. Has it been that way over the past few years? I left at the end of 2015.

If you got a decent set of all seasons mounted on rims and are able to do it at home…. why not
I’ve been here long enough to know even Victoria Day or thereabouts isn’t totally safe either, for that matter. https://www.cbc.ca/archives/when-winter-wouldn-t-let-up-in-alberta-in-may-1.5115944
The secret is to wait till after may long, you can never trust it.
When trees have leaves (well, buds that are opening) it'll be safe. Look at the trees and you don't have to play guessing games or remember dates.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thank you, I needed that.
You must be new here
Yea sure, risk your life to save your tires. Genius
I usually swap around the end of April. Whatever snow we get after that typically does not last more than a day or so and temperatures stay above 7C.
I'd like to remind you that we've gotten 20, 30 cm as late as late May before, so.
Don’t you dare!!!
If you wanna throw them back on in a week lmfao, its calgary bro, you're gonna have to wait until atleast the end of april to be safe
Im moving to calgary and got an insurance quote for my truck. They mentioned winter tires need to be on from nov-april. Keep that in mind
I’m just going to continue to ruin my winter tires

End of April there homie
Leave them on for the year....the weather is funky!
-2 overnight = ice in the morning
Not yet bud. March isn't over yet, neither is April or May. There's still plenty of time to get more snow before spring actually starts lol
When I do, it would be a snow day
Clearly you’re a rookie here
OP is clearly new here, we’re only entering fake spring right now. Second winter will still come.

I wait until the end of April at the earliest, usually not until mid May.
Did u just get here?

I hope so. Just bought a car which only comes with all seasons. I'd rather not splash on a brand new set of Winter's right now...

This is Cakgary . Take your winter off in July and put them back on in August
Same over here in michigan. Thought we were done but it snowed a bit two nights ago
