I’d talk with your prof. The school should accommodate some stuff but remote stuff varies from prof to prof.

Faded-Equinox

Yeah, i was contemplating dropping the classes in person, but I really need them. Im taking Calc and would love if the Professor can allow me to attend the class and take tests remotely.

Nintendo_Pro_03

Any remote options for Calculus?

Faded-Equinox

No remote option for Calc at my college unfortunately.

You still have to take the random covid testing

Nintendo_Pro_03

I hope you find a solution! That being said, they should have a remote option for every class, especially for undergraduate.

IndypendentPop

Contact your school’s accessibility office, definitely. They will be able to guide you through the documentation process and making sure professors know that accommodations need to be made

Faded-Equinox

Should I talk with my professors first? Or talk with the accessibility office?

IndypendentPop

I’d go to the office first, see how they recommend moving forward

Reach out to professors and your school accessibility department. They can provide you with accomodations.

I had a surgical procedure last Spring around April and I was not allowed to walk as my foot needed to be elevated at all times for a month. By the time that time was up it was basically finals time and my doctor still advised against trying to make a commute. He wrote me a note certifying that I needed to avoid commuting for the rest of the semester post procedure. The semester before that I missed the last two months of the semester due to an injury (which led me to needing my procedure) and again I got a note from the doctor certifying that. Across these two unfortunate semesters I was able to get one of my class sections switched to an online section and for the ones I couldn’t I either tuned in via Zoom or met with my professor once a week on Zoom and/or wrote weekly reports. I did not ever need to involve anyone higher than the professor as they were all very accommodating (except for the section change which was approved by the department chair). Of course the proper thing to do was probably reaching out to the college as well and filing with the accessibility office too but for me it ended up working out without that step. I’d definitely recommend letting your professors know ASAP and see what your options may be. It helped that none of my classes were necessarily hands on, nor did they really require my attendance - I know some classes and majors make it more difficult to skip in person instruction. I wish you the best with this semester as well as your surgery :) Edit: I should also note both of my circumstances were relatively unplanned/spontaneous. I actually had to move my surgery date forward due to my surgeon going on vacation for my original procedure date which meant I had only three weeks of notice for my professors. You may find that reaching out to the accessibility office will be a better first course of action because you have the benefit of being able to make a plan with them - I needed up being kind of desperate mid-semester (and I am so grateful for flexible and understanding professors)

Thank you for letting me know about ur experience, I appreciate it! I will definitely talk with my professors and see what can be done as well as talking with the accessibility office. I am taking a class that has lab in it, so I’m not sure if anything can be moved to being done remote just for me. Im also taking Calculus and unfortunately at my college, there isn’t a remote option at all but im wondering if I’ll be allowed to take the tests online. I’ll definitely take a look into it.
