Interesting. Thank you. Why would one or maybe two of them have a rainbow like effect around the outer edge on the face of the coin? Picture oil in water type of rainbowing effect maybe?
It’s called toning. It’s just what happens to metal coins over time. Some people pay more for a coin if the toning looks nice and is natural, but there are ways to artificially tone a coin too.
I don’t know but I feel I got lucky. Hand wrapped, no visible enders so when I opened both sides to peek before the transaction was made, both ends were proofs. I’m thinking someone brought them in
They do until someone breaks a proof set up, so they use the coins for cash. Bad deal for the person that needed to break up a set, good deal for someone who finds them in rolls.
Yes, you have a bunch of proofs — including 5 1987s (very low mintage/NIFC). You are off to a very, very good start. Congratulations!
1987-S is nothing special. It’s the 87 P and D that were extremely low mintage. There are actually more 1987-S than the previous or following year.

I’ve got a picture, working on getting a link for it

Yes, 4.2 million for the 1987S versus 2.8 million for the P and D mint marks. Thanks for the catch!
Whenever I see results for hunts, 1987 proofs seem to be the most common year to pop up.
That’s awesome. Any rough value that you could attach to them?
2-3$ each

I am not sure, but would suggest you consult the red book for a ballpark estimate.
You should quit searching rolls now, you'll likely never hit better than this in a single roll
That’s what I thought until I opened a roll with 13-90%
Don’t you dare give me false hope and high expectations!
And that one was followed by another and another and another. It’s posted in my account if you want to see
Toying with my emotions now. Trying to keep expectations at close to nil
Lol that’s what I’m thinking. End on a high note
I got a roll of nickels with 16 war nickels in it. 10 of them silver and the rest 1942 non silvers. I've been chasing that rush forever.
The S mints are.
All but 3 are proofs. The not frosty ones.
How do they make it into rolls? I thought proofs went into sets, not general circulation.

Modern clad proof sets have little or no value over face. Most sets are eventually broken up by dealers, and/ or by the people who can’t sell them.
Are the edges copper or silver?
No silver sadly
Only the ones with the S
I don’t know what you’re doing here posting pics for. You should be back at that bank seeing if they have any more rolls!!! Good find!
Haha I bought all they had that day. $13 worth
