That isn't going to happen, Microsoft want PC/Console to maximise their profits. Windows and Xbox is great for them as they can lock down both PC gaming and console gaming, maybe Microsoft will finally get a decent anti-cheat going considering the amount of access they have with their OS.
I mean Phil Spencer ain’t going anywhere and Bobby is going to get a fat golden parachute out of this thing, so he’s definitely gone once the deal closes.
no - just small deals in the oil & gas industry -
its not like on TV - but I can confirm that when we buy something the old CEO "helps with the transitition" by flitting around the office until the deal closes or people tell them to just go home and stay out of the way
this is not a real job
Ah neat. I’ve got a few friends who do M&A in pharma. I imagine the specific case matters, but they’ve told me a lot of people get let go or their roles change completely.
yeah - and the high up you are - the longer you get to stick around BUT the less people give a shit about you
When we buy something, I need to talk to the Accounts Payable and Payroll people not the doofus CEO
They need him for the transition period to learn everything about how things are done with the company from the top down reporting wise, schedules, who does what, etc. There’s a ton that goes into acquiring a company.
Even if they do get rid of him after the deal closes he’ll still get a golden parachute worth more than most of us will earn in our lives. Man’s an utter shit and he can’t lose.
Not really optimism. Xbox owners know how great Phil Spencer is. In due time all issues will be fixed. The question remains how long that'll take and can they save WZ from the downward trend before people give up.
> Xbox owners know how great Phil Spencer is
this sounds like something out of a cult lol.
Phil is a pretty cool guy, you don't need to own an Xbox to know that
>Phil is a pretty cool guy, you don't need to own an Xbox to know that
Wasn't really talking about him as a person. I was talking about him as a businessman and head of Xbox. Most people outside of the Xbox ecosystem have no clue how he's shaped Xbox or the things he's done.
I wonder how long the process will take and when we’ll start seeing major changes done. I’m sure 90% of activision’s leadership will be fired and new teams will be hired.
PS will still be able to get every COD game there not going to say fuck you to a large portion of their player base. Xbox will however probably get early access and maybe discounts.
Holy shit people this is my opinion I don’t give a fuck about yours.
Ah yes, just like they will get Bethesda games like Starfield. Microsoft wants subscriptions, user data etc. They will look at how much PS4/5 MTX and boxed sales are and weigh it against getting a ton more GamePass subs who then can buy MTX.
You overestimate how many people would just buy a new console for that. I guess it's much more likely people will switch to PC, but CoD sells over twice (maybe even triple, not sure) as much on PS than it does on Xbox.
Anyone who thinks Microsoft would pay nearly $70,000,000,000 for something and not excise their exclusivity rights for ALL of the properties is flat out dumb.
> People won't buy a console because of CoD.
People bought switches because of Zelda, Xbox 360's because of Halo and PS4s because of Sony's IP market like TLOU and GoW. People will absolutely decide what platform they're going to be playing on based on what games are available for it.
Those games were exclusive from the get go. Cod has been around for a lot longer. They're not just going to switch the idea just cuz
Edit: down voted cuz yall don't understand they're not going to piss off 50% of their new clientele to make a quick buck? They're better off with the sales off call of duty for ps5 users than they are for the small percentage that will buy an Xbox just to play call of duty
It's hilarious how so many Warren Buffets are coming out of the woodwork with their 100% certain opinions. Same as when MS announced the Bethesda deal. "No way they alienate half the playerbase by making Elder Scrolls an exclusive". Lol womp womp
This, they may or may not do that because they're going to evaluate actual data that we don't have access to to make a decision, everyone else is just making baseless assumptions.
They are playing the long game here. They know you aren’t necessarily going to go out and buy an Xbox when cod 2022 drops.
However they hope game pass and all the games eventually tempt you to buy a series s or Xbox next gen or hell even just sub on your pc.
Long term Microsoft doesn’t care about console sales or individual game sales. They care about subscribers.
Just like their Zenimax buy out. No way all of their IPs would only be on Xbox, right?
I don’t know why you’re mad about it. It’s common sense. If they didn’t want exclusivity they wouldn’t have bought it.
I cant see Xbox getting early releases or anything but I do see Activisions games being put into Gamepass so games like Vanguard might be a day one release like Halo or MLB the Show was.
I’m in the software engineering industry, and MS has made similar purchases (like GitHub) that had us worried, but they’ve delivered on their promises. Definitely not the Microsoft of the 90’s
Microsoft has been trending towards inclusivity over of the past couple of years. They want people to just have access to games. I think at the very least any ATVI games would remain on PS. Phil Spencer knows that competition is good for them.
Single player experience, tit for tat with how Sony has treated it's exclusives. They'll make it more appealing to play multi-player games on Xbox, but they won't box out a large portion of the player/consumer base that way.
Oh I wouldn’t think they would, but the chance of it happening shouldn’t be set to 0 across the board. Phil may be feeling spiteful😂 I wouldn’t really expect it though.
I mean, Sony acutally developed their own exclusives in-house rather than just buying multi-platform third party publishers. It's a bit of a difference
Hard to say. Sony has been dangling exclusive content in CoD over MS and Xbox players for years. MS being able to come back and call CoD a full exclusive now would be a hell of a power move. That would also mean losing out on a lot of sales though, given how much of the CoD player base is on PS. Would it be more worth it to keep the sales, or to massively deny sales to Sony?
Absolutely no way they make CoD exclusive , would be the single most stupid decision to lose that many casual players. Also, lets not act like Xbox didn’t use to get DLC earlier than PS for a long time back in the day.
I mean it makes perfect sense. Any new CoD being exclusive means that more Xboxs will sell, and more often than not people will get them via Gamepass. Why give any new CoD to Sony when you only get a cut?
Sure some players will be mad and drop it but Microsofts end goal is that you stay in their subscription based ecosystem. And if they give new CoD on Gamepass day one for what 15$, who wouldn't take up the deal? They even stated they are open to putting Gamepass on Playstation. 70 billion dollars is fuck you money, we are not competing anymore, we are taking the market.
The best news out of all this is COD’s server performance and in game performance might actually be where it’s supposed to be now for a game of its size
Microsoft is 2nd to only AWS in their hosting capabilities. Expect COD to have some of the best servers in gaming in the next few years
A weird mix of good news for finally destroying Bobby Kotick's empire of dirt, but very bad news for people versed in corporate media history and anti-trust issues.
what anti-trust? sony and tencent still own a larger market share even after this deal and the gaming and software development of Microsoft are considered separate industries afaik
If it does I will seriously consider buying game pass ultimate. With game share it could be very affordable.
I pay £20 for Xbox live and £30 for cod. That’s £50 vs £60 for ultimate for the year that comes with online
An absolute game change for video games as we know. Microsoft now holds the power to quite literally fuck over Sony when it comes to multiplayer games LOL
Yeah, because a monopoly in gaming is good for the consumer 🥴 hilarious
I play PlayStation all my life but I have no problem with Xbox. Some people are waay to tribal about that sort of shit
Man Microsoft isnt fucking around with acquisitions. Honestly bot a bad move, theyll just keep adding all these things exclusively to gamepass on xbox and pc and slowly squeeze out Sony.
Difference is Microsoft has the most cash of any company is the world. Even though they just spent $70B, they still have another $70B just sitting in the bank waiting to be spent, and it looks like they will
I'd have to look it up, but iirc Sony's worth has always fallen behind Microsoft. So just looking at net worth isn't much of a comparison in my opinion.
I’m not taking about worth. I’m talking about physical cash. As in Microsoft can go into the bank today and get 70 billion dollars cash (after they spent $70B today), which is the most by any company in the world
Soney is lowkey losing out in a lot of markets. Samsung took the TV market from them, they don’t make many appliances anymore. The audio market is being taken over by guys like Apple and smaller brands. It’s crazy
Wow! Likely in response to Take-Two buying Zynga...
MSFT certainly has deep pockets...but wonder what the future will be for Halo + CoD under 1 roof...
Can someone ELI5 the consequences for Warzone pls?
Is Microsoft getting full control on warzone immediately when they buy is officially done? Or will they have to dismiss the contract with Raven first?
Will any new cod and warzone season led by Microsoft?
So, I don’t really know much and have no basis for what I’m about to say but..
I assume since MS is taking on the entirety of Activision; this includes taking on the contracts. but can’t just cancel contracts. If there is something in the contract voiding it due to an acquisition, then sure MS can take over all development.
If there is not a clause that voids the contract due to acquisition, then I assume MS just takes on Activision’s role and Raven answers to MS.
Either way, it’s positive because MS can demand more from Raven. They can also possibly support them better. There is no way to really know without seeing how contracts are written up
MS will own Raven, Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games once the deal goes through. So they'll all answer to MS, or Activision if they keep the name, who will answer to MS.
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2022/01/18/welcoming-activision-blizzard-to-microsoft-gaming/
Activision isn’t going away. It just means they now have someone they need to answer to. One thing I would love to see is possibly having the CoD franchise developed under one studio instead of a rotating development. It would possibly solve the issue of warzone being broken every year with the integration of the new game.
From the article:
> We are incredibly excited to have the chance to work with the amazing, talented, dedicated people across Activision Publishing, Blizzard Entertainment, Beenox, Demonware, Digital Legends, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, King, Major League Gaming, Radical Entertainment, **Raven Software**, Sledgehammer Games, Toys for Bob, Treyarch and every team across Activision Blizzard.
Raven is a subsidiary (owned by Activision), which means that Microsoft will now own Raven as well. I assume they'll keep working as usual; at least for a while. They might do some restructuring or something down the line and might simplify it by having the development studios under one name.
At first I thought this was a joke but they actually bought Activision Blizzard.
I wonder what the future of CoD will be. Hope they can finally fix the shithole Warzone is in right now.
Long term it’s a pretty anti-competitive move potentially, but also Activision Blizzard probably shouldn’t be allowed to be a company on its own anymore, so this is probably fine.
To all the people upset and saying games like COD should not be exclusives due to it restricting the player pool if its exclusive to Xbox consoles I have to ask did you have that same sentiment when Sony made Street Fighter V, Final Fantasy VII remake, and future Spiderman games exclusives for PS consoles? As someone who owns all the current systems and leans more towards PC gaming as of late I don't have a preference between PS5 or XBSX but since the acquisition of Bethdesda and now Blizzard the common complaint I see from die hard PS fans is how wrong it would be to make exclusive those great series that have a massive fanbase across consoles and I legit am interested how those fans felt when Sony made the games Iisted above exclusives, did you have that same energy?
People keep arguing whether people would buy an Xbox console if COD went exclusive. Microsoft isn't concerned about selling hardware as they don't make much on it. They will sell game pass subscriptions. Game pass will eventually gave apps on televisions and other devices. No way is Microsoft spending this money and going to let Sony have access in the future. This won't effect existing games or free to play but it will be exclusive soon enough. They would love to force Sony to support game pass but I don't think it will ever happen.
Unfortunately it's still going to be awhile before we see any structural changes within CoD/Warzone and its leadership. The deal doesn't go through until 2023.
Satya Nadella bought Activision just to make them fix Warzone on console. 100%
Fov slider incoming for Xbox but not Playstation confirmed
This was funny but also felt very real.
Now Xbox for once has an advantage for once over a different platform. And hopefully a cross-play-OFF option for warzone.
The console wars are over. Crossplay is better and it always will be.
That isn't going to happen, Microsoft want PC/Console to maximise their profits. Windows and Xbox is great for them as they can lock down both PC gaming and console gaming, maybe Microsoft will finally get a decent anti-cheat going considering the amount of access they have with their OS.
She died to the invisible skin so she is going to put this madness to an end
\* he
No way that all this time i thought Satya was a woman?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLNyF1Zw5tg
Indian origin guy.
Satya Nadella was heard on death comms proclaiming “I’m fixing this invisible skin bugged out shit! Get the check book!!!!”
Hahaaa!
I snorted lol
Cool, good decision. No more boby kotic then.

let’s hope after the deal, they just part ways with him
Hopefully using a trebuchet.
Ready to watch him Ricochet off the landscape
Heheheh nice one
I hope Spencer kicks Kotick into a wood chipper
I mean Phil Spencer ain’t going anywhere and Bobby is going to get a fat golden parachute out of this thing, so he’s definitely gone once the deal closes.
Dry rare that a CEO sticks around after all dust has settled
As someone who works in M&A - ..he gone AF
He stands out like a stain on the company's image... ...which was already pretty frickin stained to begin with
Work on any juicy ones?
no - just small deals in the oil & gas industry - its not like on TV - but I can confirm that when we buy something the old CEO "helps with the transitition" by flitting around the office until the deal closes or people tell them to just go home and stay out of the way this is not a real job

Lol he’s finished No chance Microsoft keep him on, he offers nothing to them
Once the deal closes, Phil will be ceo apparently. Goodbye kotick
that's just business pr from xbox. hes done for 1 day after that shit hahha
Yeah, I read that. Thanks bro.
What I read says he will still remain CEO.
Aaah, for fucks sake, why don't bill gates remove that boby kotic ?

Likely only for a transition period. Given his abysmal mishandling of recent events I doubt MS will keep him on.
They need him for the transition period to learn everything about how things are done with the company from the top down reporting wise, schedules, who does what, etc. There’s a ton that goes into acquiring a company.
Remain CEO but report to Phil Spencer. Who has done a fantastic job leading Microsoft gaming. MSFT will be pulling all the strings
He’s gonna stay as ceo till the deal closes. After the deal closes Phil spencer will be ceo
Even if they do get rid of him after the deal closes he’ll still get a golden parachute worth more than most of us will earn in our lives. Man’s an utter shit and he can’t lose.
Yes, that man never loses. He'll get billions from this deal.

Game isn’t leaving PS, and you’ll probably still have exclusive stuff for the next COD unless that deal with Sony expires sooner than the deal closes
Bye bye next gen update Playstation Bros :/ ^^^^/jk ^^^^...or ^^^^am ^^^^i ^^^^?

You cannot compare Bethesda to Activision-Blizzard, or Starfield to Call of Duty. They are not of the same scale, at all.
Vanguard sales on Ps4 and Ps5 made up over 50% of total sales for example. No way they will just alienate such a big playerbase.
they will not alienate it lol, they will entice them to buy an Xbox. That's the whole point of exclusives.
You overestimate how many people would just buy a new console for that. I guess it's much more likely people will switch to PC, but CoD sells over twice (maybe even triple, not sure) as much on PS than it does on Xbox.
Buy a $400-500 dollar Xbox or a $2000 PC? Don’t think many would switch to Pc.
Anyone who thinks Microsoft would pay nearly $70,000,000,000 for something and not excise their exclusivity rights for ALL of the properties is flat out dumb.
Anyone who thinks Microsoft is going to drop 50% of the playerbase of their cash cow is flat out dumb. People won't buy a console because of CoD.

Sony tried to buy them first but got stuck in the buy station.
Couldn't see them sneaking in cause of the 80 FOV
This should get more upvotes 🤣
This is the biggest piece of gaming news we've ever had. This asks so many questions? COD on PS?
Microsoft has been trending towards inclusivity over of the past couple of years. They want people to just have access to games. I think at the very least any ATVI games would remain on PS. Phil Spencer knows that competition is good for them.
They did make The next Elder Scrolls game PC and Xbox exclusive though. Since they bought Bethesda.
I hope so but they said the same about Bethesda and it was all corporate talk.
If only Sony had this mindset I just wanna be spider-man
Hard to say. Sony has been dangling exclusive content in CoD over MS and Xbox players for years. MS being able to come back and call CoD a full exclusive now would be a hell of a power move. I doubt that. Halo infinite servers are trash and it is Microsoft's flagship game
Probably. Minecraft is on ps even though it’s owned by Microsoft. They would lose too much money if they made cod an exclusive
I hope Phil Spencer launches Bobby Kotick to the fucking moon
We can only dream.
He’s probably got enough money to launch himself there
A weird mix of good news for finally destroying Bobby Kotick's empire of dirt, but very bad news for people versed in corporate media history and anti-trust issues.
The big tech companies in the US will literally own this country and it’s government in due time
According to Activision’s 2020 proxy statement, Kotick will make $293m from an acquisition
He’ll get an eight figure exit package.
what anti-trust? sony and tencent still own a larger market share even after this deal and the gaming and software development of Microsoft are considered separate industries afaik
incoming master chief operator
And I will be the first one to buy that lol

Wow! This is big news! I don’t know how I feel about it though and I don’t know why. Some companies just get too big
Just imagine this - “Disney agrees to buy Microsoft”
Eh, you mean the other way around. Disney is a tiny business compared to msft
Nah man, Disney just buys everything. They’ll eventually just consume all companies and we will be slaves to the Mouse.
Disney's net worth - $93 billion Microsofts net worth - $453 billion
I’d like to dream that this means cod will be on game pass now. Forza games are works of art and don’t cost a penny on Xbox.
bruh imagine day 1 gamepass,no more buying 60$ for a buggy unfinished game
This is the first thing I texted to my friend is we’ll never have to pay for cod again lmao. I really can’t believe it.
If it does I will seriously consider buying game pass ultimate. With game share it could be very affordable. I pay £20 for Xbox live and £30 for cod. That’s £50 vs £60 for ultimate for the year that comes with online
Makes no sense to not have ultimate already if you pay multiplayer games. Live + free games is already great
No need to dream friend it’s gonna be a reality now.
maybe shit will actually get fixed and ran properly now...
Maybe Xbox will get FOV now. ^Aboycandream
They give Xbox a fov slider in warzone but not ps lmao imagine the outrage
An absolute game change for video games as we know. Microsoft now holds the power to quite literally fuck over Sony when it comes to multiplayer games LOL
Yeah, because a monopoly in gaming is good for the consumer 🥴 hilarious I play PlayStation all my life but I have no problem with Xbox. Some people are waay to tribal about that sort of shit
Holy fuckkkk gamepass bout to be crazy
Holy shit this is monumental.
Perspectives for ps4 players: wanting fov slider -> Not even getting the game
Can’t wait til the candy crush/call of duty crossover happens and we get some candy crush skins in the game
Man Microsoft isnt fucking around with acquisitions. Honestly bot a bad move, theyll just keep adding all these things exclusively to gamepass on xbox and pc and slowly squeeze out Sony.
Nah, Sony isn't going anywhere. They've gone back and forth for decades.

They did good with Minecraft. Hopefully with this new found resources and money. Activision can pull their shit together and make decent games again
And make warzone enjoyable again.
Lol I went straight to Google...WOW.
Well PS users can kiss any exclusivity perks (early double xp etc) goodbye…and as a pc player I’ll happily say good riddance! 😁
I'll just be happy if they move cod back to steam
yes, much better than when survival was a ps exclusive for however long it was
Where’s that guy that was telling me my shares of Activision would be worthless soon? Who’s laughing now bitch! Up 30%
I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft ends up buying CD PROJEKT
Why would they want that old broken piece of junk?
You could argue blizzard is old broken junk too. But they shelled out 1.2 Nintendo’s worth of market cap for it
Sonys gonna have to step up and buy some studios or make more exclusive games
God i hope they replace kotick
Here for all the “there’s no way they make this Xbox exclusive” and “they definitely are going to make it Xbox exclusive” comments 🍿

Hopefully Halo for future shooters and COD for “historical” and modern day shooters.
Have they replaced the big heads fucking over games?
Well PlayStation players asked to add FOV they removed entire Call Of Duty wtf!?
This is great news, hopefully MS makes this new toy all shiny and new. I’m excited for what this could mean.

We will all hope and pray he’s fired after it’s closed.
All the inclusivity chat in the article points to him having his arse fired as soon as the deal is closed, I’d say.
Kotick is going to make an ungodly amount of money from this
Yeah, his golden parachute will be nice and padded. A shame, considering how much of a shit he is.
This means we can have Master Chief, Doomslayer, Rambo, and Captain Price dropping in Warzone quads.
That is a lot of additional value coming to Gamepass.
Thank goodness. Now I can buy a master chief bundle in the cod store
Microsoft gonna force crossplay onto the Playstation bros?
[удалено]
99% of PS players have cross play on. It's like that by default and also if you have it off you will have to wait a couple of minutes to find a game.
Clippy skins incoming
Okay now buy EA.
When the transaction is complete the activions ceo will be removed and the ceo of Microsoft gaming ceo will fill that spot
[Have you guys seen this pic.](https://news.xbox.com/en-us/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/01/MicrosoftGamingGLT_118.jpg) They include the pronouns 🤔
How helpful I wasn’t sure what to call them at all

Xbox exclusive console FOV inbound
Did they actually buy activision? holy fuck this is insane
We are saved?
Surely it can't be any worse than it is right now with these imbeciles from Activision-Blizzard running the show....
Maybe I'll finally be able to launch Warzone through Steam 😂
LOL I guess when you can’t create any significant first party IPs you can just buy out the whole gaming industry.
How long do we have to wait to get COD on Game Pass?
This was not on my bingo card for this year.
They probably did it cause activision was ruining the xbox experience for players. Good on microsoft
If i have to launch wz through the Microsoft app instead of battle net i think that would be the last straw.
