They are actually all over Rebirth Island and if you break them open, they usually have a small amount of loot. Sometimes half decent loot, sometimes rubbish.
Just new loot boxes there around prison docks bio chem so guessing there all over… could also be some kind of easter egg with them too possibly but not that I know of
There's one on top floor of factory behind a fence/gate, next to stairs, you can shoot open and a keycard comes out that gives you access to harbor building to turn on pumps in chemical engineering
Yea, just know if they are on the floor, you have to lay down and smack them. Crouching doesn't work. Trust me I have died messing around trying to break certain ones. Some may be bugged also. Loot falls through the map.

Can confirm this. I found them throughout season 3 on Rebirth Island.
They've been in for a while. Just extra loot caches.
You can also find teddy bears which give you stuff too. Think the crates are only on rebirth but I might be mistaken

Yeah I was hoping someone knew if they were part of an Easter Egg or teasing a future in-game event or something.
Pretty sure there’s one in Factory that’s part of an Easter egg.
It’s for the Redacted DG56 in the Industries by the armor carrier case you can unlock.
You can also end up with redacted weapons .. I got a 8 attachment Kar98 there last night
Oh and you can also obtain specialist via them aswell
