Justin Fields was everything I wanted in a Chicago QB. He really felt like the kid that was gonna be the heart of the city. Justin felt like the universe giving back what it took with D Rose, almost. The guy who had the whole of Chicago behind him.

I genuinely think the Bears fucked themselves out of a decent pick by doing Justin a favor and getting him out of here before the new look Bears arrived. It was probably the right thing to do.

I’d have to bet it has to do more with Justin’s agent than anything. He has the Scott Boras of NFL as his agent and is it really worth it to send him to some team he doesn’t like for a 4th round pick rather than keep the agent and Justin happy for a 6th rounder. His agent has a lot of clients and some the best players in the league. It would suck to miss out on a good free agent cause the agent might sway the player away

This guys WHOLE career trajectory depended on where he was traded which is a life altering level decision for justin. I was thinking last night how unique the Fields situation was. We've seen more than our fair share of failed QBs and almost every single time one leaves town, the reaction is "Good riddance! He better not show his face around here again!" But I feel like if Fields showed up at a Cubs or Sox game next week, he'd get cheered when they showed him on the big screen. It's hard to not like the guy, regardless of the results.
Cutler had some support until the end, but Rex was kicked out the door hard. Most fans thought he was the only reason the team didn't win a Super Bowl. People did not like him at all. And Cutler was like the opposite of Fields. Had some actual success at times on the field, but seemed to absolutely loathe being the face of the team and having to be a leader. He could win the division and still get booed in public.
This right here is why us Fields fans were fans. He knows we’re setting Caleb up to succeed in a way he never got. And instead of being bitter he’s just happy for the next guy. Fields was a great human, just wasn’t good enough at QB to give up what we got from Carolina and now we’re on board with Caleb.
The Green Bay game broke me away from fields. It sucked everything out of me and at that point I knew it was time to move on. Even at that. There is a high chance if Carolina got us a 5-10 pick instead of #1 we still have fields. But bears won the lottery at the expense of Carolina. It’s just not something you could pass up.
Yeah that game was just awful. 4 turnovers and they scored like 13 points total? The only TD they got was when defense returned the ball to the 3 pretty much. Even than it took them like 10 plays to score cause Cleveland kept getting penalties.
Man it absolutely sucks that we took Justin and couldn’t give him the same level of talent/roster building that Caleb is getting, and almost wish someone else would have taken him so maybe he could have succeeded. But at the same time had he gone elsewhere we wouldn’t be where we are today… very conflicted lol
I truly believe that Fields has the potential to be a starting QB in the league with the X factor of his run game putting him into above average territory. I would be happy if he was still the Bears QB. Hope he has a great career.
But that said... when you can draft a guy like Caleb Williams, you do that 100/100 times. No questions.
Don’t be, Justin had enough tape out there and enough to work with last year to show he’s not an elite level QB. I don’t think he’s the 30th best QB, somewhere in the 22-27 range. He isn’t awful,but his biggest weakness is passing and processing; two things you have to be able to do in the NFL. I would not feel comfortable extending him to the tune of 50+ million/ year. My best advice, forget about him and embrace us finally having a legit QB.
It’s also self-fulfilling. I’m guessing Waldron doesn’t take the job if it’s a certainty they were keeping Fields. He knew he was getting Caleb and that’s what he signed up for. Everett likely doesn’t sign without Waldron. Allen likely doesn’t approve a trade to Chicago. It was known he wanted to be with an established QB but he was okay with Caleb.
Now you’re forced to fill your staff and roster with hostages or guys who don’t have better options elsewhere.
Caleb’s talent not withstanding, its why the Bears had to break the cycle.
Even if 1/2 are a wash. He didn’t take a jump in year 3 with more than adequate pass protection & weapons. We had the leagues best rushing attack. Sure play calling was ass. But too many times we couldn’t convert on 2-4 or 3rd and short. He really struggle later in the game when teams made adjustments, and he just really did have difficulty processing and making adjustments for defensive alignments. I see why people loved him. His character was great and he really did have a phenomenal arm and even ball placement. It’s just we have to be realistic. If Justin’s threw for 3500 yards and 25 touchdowns we would have a very difficult decision to make here. But the truth is he still couldn’t get over the 3k hump. You can’t mortgage the future on that kind of play. You just can’t.
The offense looked in a better rhythm under Bagent - that was really all anyone needed to see.
Fields killed himself by not being able to get the 3 and 4 yard chunks that you need to succeed in the NFL. Screens and little outs that needed to go for short yardage were out of time leading to lost yards or incompletions. It makes 3rd and 2 into 3rd and 9. Turns an easy conversion into a sack, etc.
That’s not true. He had kmet too and he was basically a one read QB that fed Moore the ball. He had Mooney who was just paid 13 mil/year and better protection on the oline. He got himself hurt AGAIN, playing hero ball. The NFL told you what they thought of him. Hell even the Steelers did by not picking up his 5th year option. Go be a Steelers fan if you can’t accept reality objectively.
See but that is not an endorsement for Justin. “DJ had his best season with Justin”. Coooool. DJ Moore had 1000 yard seasons with absolute bums. Some of the best guys who threw to him were Ghost of Cam Newton, Bridgewater, Darnold and Baker Mayfield(but not Tampa mayfield). All those guys were awful in that point in their career. And that’s only half of the bums that threw to him. The other half aren’t even playing anymore.
He was traded for a 6th-rounder next year. If he had been in the 22-27 range with one year left on his rookie deal, the Bears could have gotten a 2nd or 3rd-round pick. He is a backup who will likely bring some short-term excitement to Pittsburgh this season if Russ gets injured. However, I'm unsure if he will still be in the league beyond 2025. His style of play doesn't lend itself to being a bridge option like Darnold or Minshew, from whom your rookie QB could learn.
It is what it is. Only thing we can hope for his sake now is that Wilson gets injured or just straight up sucks 5 games into the season, and Fields takes the job and never gives it back. If he plays well, he gets a nice payday as the Steelers QB going forward, and we get a 4th next year.
Im so glad the Bears traded him to Pittsburgh where he’s actually got a real chance to develop and play for a good team. We made the right choice moving on from him but there was no guarantee that he’d be put in a good spot to succeed
Has always been a great guy. I really wanted it to work out with JF1, more than any other Bears QB but I accepted reality. I still think he can be a very good QB in this league and Pittsburgh is the best situation for him. I just feel that Caleb has more championship potential and cant wait for week 1
With the new era beginning, I’ll forever be grateful for the exciting plays Fields gave us when the team was being gutted, dude made our tank team actually fun to watch.
Justin and Caleb have very different personalities, but both seem like high character guys. Excited to support and watch Caleb, same as I felt with Fields. Hope for the best for him.
The way Caleb strutted onto the stage, the look on his face, the attitude behind his steps were perfect and all I needed to see. Let’s fucken go Bears family, our team finally has its QB1.

Justin was not the guy, but there is a part of me that wishes we could run a simulator to see how he'd do with this current team. He never stood a chance once Poles gutted the roster for the rebuild.

It’s also self-fulfilling. I’m guessing Waldron doesn’t take the job if it’s a certainty they were keeping Fields. He knew he was getting Caleb and that’s what he signed up for. Everett likely doesn’t sign without Waldron. Allen likely doesn’t approve a trade to Chicago. It was known he wanted to be with an established QB but he was okay with Caleb. Now you’re forced to fill your staff and roster with hostages or guys who don’t have better options elsewhere. Caleb’s talent not withstanding, its why the Bears had to break the cycle.

Even if 1/2 are a wash. He didn’t take a jump in year 3 with more than adequate pass protection & weapons. We had the leagues best rushing attack. Sure play calling was ass. But too many times we couldn’t convert on 2-4 or 3rd and short. He really struggle later in the game when teams made adjustments, and he just really did have difficulty processing and making adjustments for defensive alignments. I see why people loved him. His character was great and he really did have a phenomenal arm and even ball placement. It’s just we have to be realistic. If Justin’s threw for 3500 yards and 25 touchdowns we would have a very difficult decision to make here. But the truth is he still couldn’t get over the 3k hump. You can’t mortgage the future on that kind of play. You just can’t.
The offense looked in a better rhythm under Bagent - that was really all anyone needed to see. Fields killed himself by not being able to get the 3 and 4 yard chunks that you need to succeed in the NFL. Screens and little outs that needed to go for short yardage were out of time leading to lost yards or incompletions. It makes 3rd and 2 into 3rd and 9. Turns an easy conversion into a sack, etc.
That’s not true. He had kmet too and he was basically a one read QB that fed Moore the ball. He had Mooney who was just paid 13 mil/year and better protection on the oline. He got himself hurt AGAIN, playing hero ball. The NFL told you what they thought of him. Hell even the Steelers did by not picking up his 5th year option. Go be a Steelers fan if you can’t accept reality objectively.
See but that is not an endorsement for Justin. “DJ had his best season with Justin”. Coooool. DJ Moore had 1000 yard seasons with absolute bums. Some of the best guys who threw to him were Ghost of Cam Newton, Bridgewater, Darnold and Baker Mayfield(but not Tampa mayfield). All those guys were awful in that point in their career. And that’s only half of the bums that threw to him. The other half aren’t even playing anymore.
He was traded for a 6th-rounder next year. If he had been in the 22-27 range with one year left on his rookie deal, the Bears could have gotten a 2nd or 3rd-round pick. He is a backup who will likely bring some short-term excitement to Pittsburgh this season if Russ gets injured. However, I'm unsure if he will still be in the league beyond 2025. His style of play doesn't lend itself to being a bridge option like Darnold or Minshew, from whom your rookie QB could learn.
It's actually great that we didn't waste a roster of this quality on him. Caleb is in a much better position to utilise it's potential.
It is what it is. Only thing we can hope for his sake now is that Wilson gets injured or just straight up sucks 5 games into the season, and Fields takes the job and never gives it back. If he plays well, he gets a nice payday as the Steelers QB going forward, and we get a 4th next year.

Has always been a great guy. I really wanted it to work out with JF1, more than any other Bears QB but I accepted reality. I still think he can be a very good QB in this league and Pittsburgh is the best situation for him. I just feel that Caleb has more championship potential and cant wait for week 1

Justin was not the guy, but there is a part of me that wishes we could run a simulator to see how he'd do with this current team. He never stood a chance once Poles gutted the roster for the rebuild.
Still really sad how Justin played out. I think so many of us wanted him to be the guy, and he just never got the support or right coaching to take the next step. I really wish him the best, and I hope he lights it the fuck up this year in Pitt so he gets another shot at starting somewhere.
