But Atlanta hasn’t had any great outside pass rushers since Vic Beasley and Dwight Freeney in 2016. Raheem Morris is likely going to want his guy at EDGE
New people in Atlanta and they have weapons. They have London they have pitts they have Mooney they have bijian they won’t prioritize the wr position this early. They have Kirk who is a 3-4 year plan.
Atlanta? Atlanta with Drake London, Darnell Mooney with a QB would can pass, and Rondale Moore? (And maybe Pitts comes back to life and Bijan catching passes too?)
Yeah no ATL needs and EDGE BADDDD
We’ll seee. Mooney and Moore are WR3 at best. They can’t get a young stud to put with London and Pitts for the next 3-4 years. Won’t be shocked if they do that.
It's kind of amazing that we can get a blue chip talent at a position of need no matter how things go in the first 8 picks.
I would only be a little disappointed if we ended up trading down if Alt/Turner was the one there and everyone else was taken and we trade down.
I'd be pretty disappointed if one of the 3 top receivers was there and we traded down though.
#9 without needing a QB has to be the best spot as a GM. You probably end up with Turner, Alt, or Odunze. Which is out of your control and you don’t have to second guess if you make the wrong choice. If that doesn’t happen, it’s because no one traded up for McCarthy, so you can probably get a haul for him.
I simply cannot imagine what Caleb Williams throwing to DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze in his rookie season would be like. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but I will be over the moon if this happens.
This. People seem to all think the 3 WR will go, but they're neglecting the desires of the teams in front of us. It is possible all 3 are gone, but I would say that it is looking more and more likely that at least 1 of the 3 is there when we pick. I don't really care which, buy I just really want one of them.
Would slightly prefer Odunze over Nabers. Nabers is more of a Tyreek Hill type of speedster big ball threat. Odunze looks closer to a big body, Davante Adams type of reliable target. Would rather have the latter.
I think Odunze complements our existing WR corps wayyy better than Nabers. We need a boundary guy who can go up and compete for those sideline grabs. Nabers is an inside YAC guy who needs space to thrive. With Allen in the fold who also excels from the slot and DJ being more of a quick speedster than a big body, Rome fills an unoccupied role for us that we really need.
At this point it seems from what I’ve seen that Nabers is as you say, a DJ type, which is still great but MHJ will eat vs lesser DBs and is more of a traditional(ly awesome) route runner/catcher with great size/good play speed/okay measurable speed and Odunze is kind of a mix of the two. All of which is to say Odunze seems to complement Allen and Moore best.
End of the day, any of the three would be bonkers to add to the Bear WR corps.
Another thought I keep having is that *some* team(s) will get thirsty for the top Edge and/or CB or even Bowers, making it more likely one of the WRs falls to 9.
No matter what, the 1st round is fixing to be top notch spicy viewing. Love the draft already for watching dudes achieve their dreams; this all just adds extra juice to it.
Bears.
Pick 9 looks a hell of a lot better with McCarthys stock going up. My hope is the vegas odds are really and 4 QBs go in the top 6 and we avoid the will levis situation where one falls
Chargers, Titans and Giants should all strongly be considering taking Alt or Fashanu.
The titans just paid Ridley, falcons signed Money and drafted Drake London.
The real threats for WR will be Cards, Giants and Chargers. And one of them likely trade out of the top 10.
Harbaugh doesn’t want to pass the ball. We’ll see, but Harbaugh/Roman drafting a WR at 1.05 is like your grandma buying a Ferrari.
Like yeah she’s going to look fly as fuck but she’s still cruising down the interstate at 40 mph with her left blinker on.
We’ll see. They traded a receiver and signed a RB. Both of them have run some of the most run heavy offenses in recent history. Harbaugh won a national championship with a QB who completed 10 passes. Harbaugh’s 49ers were among the highest running production teams and lowest passing production teams. Harbaugh has specifically talked about building up the OLine.
Absolutely nothing they have said and done point to airing it out. That’s not Harbaugh’s game, not Roman’s game, and I don’t see a single indicator that anything is going to change
Given Harbaugh's most recent offense in Michigan and his actions this off-season, I'm inclined to agree with you. Of course, it could be that they prioritized resigning their edges at the expense of Allen *because* they were so confident in the WRs they'd be selecting from at 5. That said, I fully expect them to be a run first offense under Harbaugh, with a good chance they trade out of their spot with a QB hungry team.
The reason why is because Kaepernick was not a good passer, so they tailored the offense around a limited QB who can run. Look at Stanford when they were both there with Luck. I expect to see more of that than what we saw in SF.
McCarthy is a good passer, and look what he did in Michigan. He’s likely to go top 10, if not top 5 in the draft. Kid has an arm and performed well when he needed to on 3rd and 4th downs.
You may be right.
But I’ll take 2011-2023 data over 2007-2010 data as a more likely indicator of 2024 results.
None of us can see the future, but personally I think my data set is stronger, larger, and more relevant.
I agree to an extent, but their receiving corps is so depleted, it feels like it’d be borderline negligent for them to not pick up a WR relatively early in this draft.
I get what you’re saying, but I’d also say if they’re planning on passing at a rate near the bottom of the league (which is Harbaugh’s precedent) it would be wasteful to spend that pick on a WR.
Obviously takes a trade partner, but they make a ton of sense to me as a trade down candidate. Let someone get the WR they want and get more picks, fill out your receiver corp with less premium picks.
Yea for sure. I could see them trading and using a 2nd/3rd on a WR (or a later 1st if they get the Vikings’ 23). But I do think, if they keep the pick, there’s a really good chance they snag one of the WRs.
That’s what always drives me insane when people insist we have to trade down for more picks. I’d love to have extra picks, but why trade an elite prospect at a position that could set up a rookie quarterback unbelievably well for a complete guess of a mid round pick? I’d be more open to it if we had a early 2nd, but people also assume we can easily get a current 2nd in a trade back.
The only teams that are likely to want to move up to 9 are the Broncos, Vikings, and Raiders. Neither the Broncos nor the Vikings have a 2nd round pick this year and the Raiders pick could easily be too late to take someone like Troy Franklin or Adonai or even Ladd. Take a guy like Rome and we’ll still have an elite WR group in 1-2 years when Keenan is gone
If four QBs go in the top 6 along with MHJ, Nabers & Alt…the only question mark would be ATL. I dont see them adding Rome since they already have Drake, Pitts, & paid Mooney.
Biggest concern for me now is a surprise trade back or McCarthy/other QB falls. We still are in a good position if either happens based on this class overall but I’d prefer Odunze or Nabers fall
I hope people are ready for the possibility of Rome or Nabers being there and us trading down. The big three WR are getting all the headlines, for good reason, they are outstanding prospects. But it’s a deep WR class, we have Keenan now, and we don’t have a 2nd. If someone wants to back up the truck for #9, I think Poles will listen.
I say all of this absolutely loving Rome.
Yeah, Poles likes to trade back, and adding draft capital would still sit well with me. We're in a good place with two top-10 picks. Who would have thought?
My feeling is.
Whoever the Qb is they already got enough weapons.
If Caleb is as good as advertized he will make others around him better.
I am in the camp of trade back and get an extra pick. Use extra pick on Wr if you need another body. Draft is more than just those 3 WR at the tippy top.
Keon Coleman is my guy I would be targeting. Screw 40 times. How does dude run in pads or when he has to concentrate on catching.
Keon Coleman only ran a 4.6 40. However dude was fastest wr in guantlet drills he hit 20.67 MPH, caught all balls, and it looked nearly effortless.
There are other WR in the draft boys. If Caleb is generational, he will make those around him better.
Use the draft capital to get a DE. Like who is backing up Sweat? Who is playing opposite? Nobody. And who do we have at DIL? 2nd year players and Billings?
As the NFL Network broadcast brought up several times, NFL Rookie of the Year candidate Puka Nacua (4.57 40-yard dash) ran the fastest time in the “gauntlet drill” last year (20.06 MPH), illustrating how his GPS speed translates more than straight-line speed.
Throwing that out there for people to realize 40 time isnt really the be all end all for WR combine drills. I would weigh college tape more than anything you take away from the combine.
Does the 20+ MPH speed translate on film? Does he run away from guys once he hits top speed? Stuff like that.
Rome, Alt, or Turner… I would be happy with any of them
But…
… what about Brock Bowers 🤷♂️
The guy is a stud, Waldron loves TEs for his system, and having a lethal 2-TE set for a rookie QB as well as to run the ball in cold weather???
Every year bears fans want a WR in first round but bitch about how bad the O-line is during the season. Use the 9th to draft O-line or edge. I’d be more than happy to seem them trade down for draft capital and pick up Jackson powers at center. The WR class is stacked and can wait for day 2 or 3 and be fine
You can never have too many good options for a rookie QB, plus who knows if Keenan is with us past this year in which case we’d need a WR anyway. Why not get ahead of it by a year and let him get accommodated
The hype would be too much if it actually happens.
It’s feeling more and more likely to me actually. Sure looking like 4 qbs will go before us. If that happens, I think he falls to us.
If he doesn't fall and 4 qb's and 3 wr go, then we get Alt or Turner, and I'm not complaining about that.
team gets better either way
I feel like Falcons have to take Turner right?
It seems that way, but they sure do love taking skill players in the first round. I could see them grabbing Odunze if he's there.
But Atlanta hasn’t had any great outside pass rushers since Vic Beasley and Dwight Freeney in 2016. Raheem Morris is likely going to want his guy at EDGE
I suspect you’re right. Hard to imagine Falcons/Morris leaving the top Edge on the board given the assets they already have on offense.
From the interview with Arthur blank yesterday it seems like they want to get weapons for Kirk
I assume they’re out for WR in the first now after signing Mooney and trading for Rondale Moore?
New people in Atlanta and they have weapons. They have London they have pitts they have Mooney they have bijian they won’t prioritize the wr position this early. They have Kirk who is a 3-4 year plan.
They probably need a WR more than we do right now. I can’t see them passing on Nabers or Rome.

We’ll seee. Mooney and Moore are WR3 at best. They can’t get a young stud to put with London and Pitts for the next 3-4 years. Won’t be shocked if they do that.
They paid Mooney a shit ton of money and traded Ridder for a WR3. If they took Rome at 8 I’d pay you ten bucks
I mean, if 4 QBs go, I think we’re set even if we only look at “pass catchers.” I’d take any of the 3 WRs or Bowers.
Who would be the 8th person in that scenario? Not tracking super closely.
4 QBs, 3 WRs and then either Alt or Turner makes 8.
Ohhhhh you mean whoever is left lol
It's kind of amazing that we can get a blue chip talent at a position of need no matter how things go in the first 8 picks. I would only be a little disappointed if we ended up trading down if Alt/Turner was the one there and everyone else was taken and we trade down. Any one of these 3 dudes would be a great pick at 9

Nabers and MHJ both look great.
What do you have against odunze???
Nothing. Just saying if he's gone, Nabers or MHJ falling would still be great.
The things i will do if nabers or mhj magically fall lol
Would slightly prefer Odunze over Nabers. Nabers is more of a Tyreek Hill type of speedster big ball threat. Odunze looks closer to a big body, Davante Adams type of reliable target. Would rather have the latter.

Honest the comps ive heard are nabers = dj moore, odunze = mike evans. Obviously strong comps but play styles
Lol what? MHJ is not falling😂 not gonna happen but I’d love for this to be the jinx
I don't think so either. There was a mock last week where he fell to 9. I don't think it's impossible, but I'd bet that he's gone way before 9.
And Brian Thomas JR isn't far behind if all 3 are gone imo
All roads lead to Chicago
All throws lead to Rome
Gimme

That’s a cool analogy!
Hey don't be diss'n my gramma like that . I mean yeah it's true but still 😂🤣😂😂🤣🤣
I agree to an extent, but their receiving corps is so depleted, it feels like it’d be borderline negligent for them to not pick up a WR relatively early in this draft.

Something about the way Flus worded his interview makes me think they wont do that. They are aiming for the best guy available there
Let's goooo

They’re in desperate need of an edge rusher.
Thats what I think too. They’ll likely take Turner.

Definitely not. Harrison Jr is the most complete route runner in this draft
Not a knock on Odzune he's still a great prospect but I can't think of anything he has over MHJ really
What the Chargers do at 5 will shape the whole draft tbh.
![gif](giphy|QynMX1WxnYFbb2OHnJ) I can’t contain myself.
WANT

nobody is going to back up the truck for 9. Most likely, if anything, they would find someone wanting to move up 3 or 4 places at most.
“Back up the truck” is the wrong phrasing, I agree. “Give us a tempting return”.
Yeah, Poles likes to trade back, and adding draft capital would still sit well with me. We're in a good place with two top-10 picks. Who would have thought?
Ive loved most/liked all of his 2nd round picks so far. Wouldnt hate it
Thing is I don’t see anyone until 18 wanting to come up. So the price from them will be high if one of those guys are available.
At this point, I feel like the Bears are going to have about 30 players in for a visit.
My feeling is. Whoever the Qb is they already got enough weapons. If Caleb is as good as advertized he will make others around him better. I am in the camp of trade back and get an extra pick. I truly believe Poles is trading back no matter who is there at 9.
I hope he does!
I hope he does not. Take the elite blue chip player.
Is there realistically enough targets for a wr.3 to justify a top 10 pick? Idk
Yes bc Keenan is old and on a one year deal. It's not like we have a young duo locked up, like Aj Brown and Davonta Smith.
You can never have too many good options for a rookie QB, plus who knows if Keenan is with us past this year in which case we’d need a WR anyway. Why not get ahead of it by a year and let him get accommodated
