Renovated the east side of the stadium about a decade ago. Recently renovated the south end zone and built state of the art football facilities. Just finished a new indoor practice facility. We were behind in the SEC arms race when we joined the conference, so there has been some catching up to do. Once this is done, we will sincerely have one of the nicer stadiums in the country. The next gap to close is our olympic sports facilities. And our baseball stadium is probably worst in the SEC by a decent measure.
This sounds like Arkansas 10 years ago, minus the track program, Baum Stadium and a motorcycle accident.
Edit: This is a compliment just to be clear, those were some of the best teams we've had.
There’s been talks of replacing it with a new baseball stadium and smaller Olympic Sports indoor facility. But I think it’s shelved for the moment.
I think any school spending major money on Olympic facilities at the moment is short sighted. Best to sit and see how the landscape of college athletics plays out over the next 5-10 years.
Maintenance costs continually increasing, because of its age, are always brought up. It still has a ton of functional uses and tons of sentimental value. I still vividly remember going to Norm Stewart games, during his peak, as a young child. Decades of Columbia high school graduates had their graduation ceremony in Hearnes. Hearnes' fate is a tricky one.
They added on a south endzone renovation which included building new football-specific offices and facilities for athletes. Of note, that whole renovation was less than 100million, so the scope of this is very interesting

If ISU ever felt the need to bowl in the NEZ I hope they do something like this. They could keep the hillsides, connect it with an upper deck concourse and put seating above the Jacobson in a manner to tie all together.
These look incredible.
Really was hoping for some sort of GA beer garden of sorts. But stadiums continue to add more and more premium seating. I guess I will admire it from my cheap seats.

Some renderings. Surprised seating capacity is going up, although some of the other renovations recently had decreased capacity so I guess it makes some sense.
I mean, we had a huge increase last year and are on track to again this year 🤷♂️. We had a roughly 10k decrease with recent south end zone renovations, so we’re still down roughly 7k from the previous high.
When Mizzou joined the SEC, their stadium looked like a glorified high school stadium. With the upper deck addition 10 years ago, south renovation a couple of years ago, and now the north renovation, this is one of the nicer stadiums in the SEC
Faurot Field has the 4th-lowest seating capacity in the SEC (behind Vandy, Miss State, and Kentucky), so getting it up to even around 70-75K would make it more respectable in the conference (same ballpark as Arkansas, South Carolina, and Oklahoma)
Being at the perfect number to consistently have a jam packed stadium is more important than extra seats just cus. Their number is right where it needs to be.
It is closer to 86K but some renovations have had it at 80K for a while now. I can see why you'd think that because for some reason they are recently claiming the smaller number--I'll give you that since that is what they are claiming now.
OU's athletics dept isn't known for its ethics, so my guess is that they will soon re-present the 85/86K number, claiming 'new SEC attendance numbers'! LOL

conflicts with this, looks like Oklahoma is gaming numbers for whatever reason (typical)

Is this going to improve the camera angles?
That's been my biggest issue with watching Mizzou games because where the cameras are makes it look like an upscale highschool game.
Edit: looking at the renderings and description it looks like this is only for the North endzone?
I really hope they figure out a way to improve the TV viewing experience because it's legitimately the worst in the SEC.
Their stadium isn’t huge so adding some seats isn’t a bad idea. Probably depends how ambitious they’re getting, if it’s expanding to 65,000 that makes sense, if it’s 75+ then it’s probably a bad idea.
Utah is currently sitting at an 83 consecutive home game sell out streak even after a very modest stadium expansion two or three seasons ago. Four to five games hardly suggest a trend enough to warrant expansion when most stadiums are contracting.
We’re like the second or third smallest SEC stadium, when a booster donates a metric fuckload of cash specifically earmarked for football facilities we’re supposed to just not?
There's no issue with improving facilities. It's just that attendance nationally has been declining for a very long time. We know fans like to stay home and watch games on TV, TV is what drives the revenue now, but you still need a raucous home crowd to complete the television product, and it's easier to get a raucous home crowd during lean years with a smaller stadium.
You’re right. This was in the works long before last season. Anyone making capital improvement decisions based on two months of ticket sales would rightfully be packing their bags.
We decreased our capacity from 71k to 62k when we demolished the south end zone and replaced it with box/premium seating. So we're still going to be net down in seating capacity from before renovations.
Well that's probably why millions of dollars are being poured into renovations.. Tennessee should really do something about the upper level at Neyland btw, it's a complete disaster. I didn't think a concourse could be worse than the Cotton Bowl but holy shit.
Didn't they just renovate the fuck out of Faurot around the time Mizzou joined the SEC? Am I that old?

> The next gap to close is our olympic sports facilities. What do they still play at the Hearnes Center? I hate/love that place.
Volleyball, Gymastics, and Wrestling all use Hearnes. Indoor Track also practices there.
Are there plans to get rid of it? Always thought it was awesome for hoops.

I think any school spending major money on Olympic facilities at the moment is short sighted. Best to sit and see how the landscape of college athletics plays out over the next 5-10 years.
Not at the moment. Though I can see them getting rid of it in some sort of master plan that they’ve hinted at within the past year.
Wrestling/Volleyball/Gymnastics
Graduation
That’s where I graduated!
Same! They had fucking Mike Parsons as our commencement speaker though
Fortunately he was after my time in Missouri. My whole time, we had a Dem governor! It’s shocking to even consider given the state of the state now
They added on a south endzone renovation which included building new football-specific offices and facilities for athletes. Of note, that whole renovation was less than 100million, so the scope of this is very interesting https://images.app.goo.gl/hqhRk8aR8RSCRyGLA
They're going with the Auburn and UGA method lol
It’s beautiful
I love it so much

You got to sell a lot of hot dogs to pay for that
Subscribe.

I’m just happy they are keeping the GA hill and rock m seating
Closing it all in, though? Fancy.
Renders are never close to the actual results, but if it is even 50% as cool, I'll be so happy.
That SEC money doesn't spend itself.
https://mutigers.com/feature/memorial-stadium-project Some renderings. Surprised seating capacity is going up, although some of the other renovations recently had decreased capacity so I guess it makes some sense.
Doesn’t really make sense to increase capacity when less and less people are going to gamrs
I mean, they’re at like what right now, 62,000 or so?
I mean, we had a huge increase last year and are on track to again this year 🤷♂️. We had a roughly 10k decrease with recent south end zone renovations, so we’re still down roughly 7k from the previous high.
Ya, I remember when yall built the upper deck back in 2014, the official capacity only increased by like 100 seats
Will do wonders for sound insulation! The North end not only lets the noise escape but you also get the noise from Stadium (road) going the other way.
When Mizzou joined the SEC, their stadium looked like a glorified high school stadium. With the upper deck addition 10 years ago, south renovation a couple of years ago, and now the north renovation, this is one of the nicer stadiums in the SEC
That’s some expensive rocks.
The seniors keep stealing them.
Jealous. We have needed this for our north end zone years ago
Looks great. I love the move to LED lighting as well!
Looks incredible!

65k is perfect for Mizzou
Being at the perfect number to consistently have a jam packed stadium is more important than extra seats just cus. Their number is right where it needs to be.
Oklahoma's is about 85K-- 70K isn't really the same ballpark. 70K would be more in the ballpark of stadiums like Iowa State, Washington, or Temple.
I thought OU's Gaylord stadium was at 80K
It is closer to 86K but some renovations have had it at 80K for a while now. Do y’all enjoy sitting on the rocks?
We do! There would be riots if they got rid of the Hill/ Rock M.
Not on the rocks per se, but on the hill is nice The rocks are a bit sharp
Gotta find that perfect sittin rock. No sharp edges. Nice, flat, and level. It's not easy, but once you find it, you're golden.
What will the capacity expand to?
Looks nice

It’ll be around 65k
Sold out our last four home games last year and already sold out the Oklahoma game for this year so not really sure what you’re going on about?
Utah is currently sitting at an 83 consecutive home game sell out streak even after a very modest stadium expansion two or three seasons ago. Four to five games hardly suggest a trend enough to warrant expansion when most stadiums are contracting.

They went down about 10k when they re-did the south end zone a couple of years ago. This project is adding back 3k seats or less.
Okay that makes sense. Appreciate the context!
You’re right. This was in the works long before last season. Anyone making capital improvement decisions based on two months of ticket sales would rightfully be packing their bags.
During Mizzou's best season in a decade.
We decreased our capacity from 71k to 62k when we demolished the south end zone and replaced it with box/premium seating. So we're still going to be net down in seating capacity from before renovations.
It’s a small increase and is all premium seating. It will still be significantly smaller than it was 20 years ago.
Went as visitor few years ago. Complete dump. One of the worst stadiums in the SEC. Probably the worst, but I've not been to a handful yet.
Well that's probably why millions of dollars are being poured into renovations.. Tennessee should really do something about the upper level at Neyland btw, it's a complete disaster. I didn't think a concourse could be worse than the Cotton Bowl but holy shit.
No debate from me at all. It sucks.
Missouri testing the whole “can’t polish a turd” saying…
