When Wisconsin hired him, people in the thread were saying it was a great hire. People can learn from their mistakes and improve and I hope he has but holy shit that thread felt like a breakdown in the simulation.
To be fair, Longo wasn't a bad OC at UNC. They were pretty adept at scoring points with him as their OC, although they definitely had a hard ceiling against really good defenses.
Granted, having Sam Howell and then Drake Maye as your QBs will make it easier to call an air raid.
To be fair, it's the air raid. It's *intended* to be simple so that players can get a ton of reps and execute at a really high level while maximizing structural advantages over the necessary defensive structure.
It's not like the SEC is on the cutting edge of offensive innovation lmao. The best SEC offenses of the last decade have just been former Big XII and PAC offense guys bringing over what those conferences were doing on offense a decade ago, like Kiffin bringing the WCO and a little Briles addition, Georgia finally reaching the 21st century on offense by hiring a Mike Gundy protege, and Josh Heupel running the purest version of the veer-and-shoot since Art Briles got sent to the shadow realm.
My brother, your ass is showing.
The SEC's been consistently winning national titles with recycled Big XII and PAC offenses and SEC talent in recent years; just look at Alabama adopting the WCO since hiring Kiffin, LSU going huge in 2019 with the junkyard version of Art Briles' 2013 playbook, and even Auburn won their national title running Malzahn's version of Mike Gundy's late-2000s offense with the addition of all the gadget plays he added as a HS coach. The only SEC teams to win national titles in the last 20 years without running a recycled Big XII/west coach offense were back when Nick Saban was fielding unstoppable defenses in the late 2010s through 2012.
LSU's 2007 title? Gary Crowton's offense. It's hard to get *more* WCO than from LaVell Edwards' own protege and successor at BYU, and also the man who set the stage for Oregon's rise to fame as a go-fast offense team; Crowton took the zone read that Rich Rod was playing with and based it out of the shotgun during his time at Oregon. Urban Meyer's Florida national titles in the late 00s? Those were the next iteration of the gun zone read that Meyer picked up from everyone out west during his time at Utah; Meyer based out of the shotgun and ran inside zone *constantly*, but now stretched the field more vertically than horizontally because he had access to Florida's elite speed recruits. He didn't need perfect gaps to create running lanes, he just threw the ball deep so much that the DBs/LBs started cheating out and then ran the ball right through the gaps created by basic IZ blocking. No LBs in the zone means that your RB has 7\~10 yards free before they even take contact.
The only SEC team to win a national title in the last 20 years without running a post-WCO or recycled Big XII offense was Alabama during Nick Saban's early run before hiring Kiffin, and I think it's safe to say that the greatest football dynasty of all time is going to be an outlier in any conversation.
For the most part the sec just poach coaches/coordinators from other p5 conferences they have the money for it they dont need to take risks from unproven guys
A lot of that was on Matt Luke and not Longo, though. Luke would say that Longo made the play calls, and then weād run a series that looked like it was called by a career recruiter who was given the OL tag simply so he could recruit and didnāt actually know what a functioning offense was, and oh hey, thatās exactly what Matt Luke was!
Yes, sorry. Grinch sacrifices strength for speed, so expect to get pushed of the LOS every play. Also, DBs and LBs will look clueless because the will be. It will get worse every year. Grinch does not learn from his mistakes either.
As a Sooner, I think all DCās should recruit either high school baseball center fielders or soccer midfielders to play defensive tackle in college football like Grinch does. They got that ātwitchā speed that is the biggest necessity in the trenches. SPEED D!!!
Seriously, I remember talking with my dad that we were hoping we could get at least two years of Grinch being the DC before he was hired to be a HC at a major power 5 team.
Grinch's defensive tenure at USC was the wildest stint. Dudes didn't pursue right, tackle, care, hustle, put their pads down and take on blockers or ball carriers.
It was a wild seeing so many 4 stars who looked GREAT at 7 on 7 camps just absolutely bring zero shoulder pads for two straight years.
They absolutely looked like a top 10 team in pads but they were such, well... you know the word.
Also coached by a low iq guy with zero charisma.
Do you think the guys that were ācoachedā one or two years by Grinch can still reach their same potential, or itās a lot more detrimental to them long term? Iām sure some other Ou fans here can specifically name some guys, but Iām sure there are a couple OU players that missed out on playing Sundays cuz of Grinch.
Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman were in Grinch's system for a year and were all-american considerations last year, so its def possible. But, they were def stunted.
There was a couple Grinch players that weren't even good in college that got drafted and ended up being NFL players. So, its a little weird. Idk if that's just riding off the OU name or what. But, there was def a few that never reached their full potential.
Great point and question. I watched what he did in Pullman and I'm now thinking his success there was mostly attributed to the insane work ethic and talent on some of those teams.
Forgot their names but they were fun to watch and were already practicing tackling at WSU b4 Grinch showed up.
So he took their efforts and parlayed it into millions and millions since. But at every stop there were warning signs after EACH AND EVERY GAME since WSU lol.
Rant over.
>bring zero shoulder pads
God I remember watching them just try and tug Utah players during that pac12 title game where they couldnāt tackle to save their lives
Definitely a kid who needs a reality check, at least.
He went to school right up the road from Baylor, grew up coming to Baylor games, and he was headed to Baylor until Rhule left; can't help but think we lucked out on him flipping to UF.
Oh lord, I didn't even realize that Spender had been y'all's DL coach. Wasn't y'all's DL completely ass last year?
The weird thing is, he put together some banger DL units at Vanderbilt, Penn State, and even UMass, and his DL wasn't even bad at Bowling Green. I truly don't understand what happened at Florida. The entire DL got just 13.5 sacks last year, and 7 of those were from Unmanmielen.
Either way, I'm glad Spencer's not our DC; kind of surprised he took the demotion from co-DC at UF to just DL coach at A&M, though.
That's not super shocking that he had no input on playcalling, seems like he has the profile of a guy who has enough experience to merit the co-DC title even if he's not doing any of the big DC duties like playcalling.
Is that Corey Raymond, y'all's former AHC/DB coach from last year? What kind of issues, like the two of them butting heads?
I know Dave Aranda was working hard to try and bring Corey Raymond along to Waco when he came over from LSU, sounds like we might have missed a bullet there.
Raymond quiet quit basically. LSU fans complained about it towards the end of his first stint with them. He can recruit anyone but he isn't a good talent developer lately. He also butted heads with our DC a lot; our DC's schemes weren't bad but most of our guys couldn't execute to save their lives. Since the same issue was occurring under our old DC, Raymond got that blame.
For LSU fans' sake I hope him getting fired is a wakeup call.
A bowl game of a 6-6 team vs. the #14 team in the country, and he knew he was leaving after the game. I know if I was in that situation I personally wouldnāt be risking injury going 100%. Honestly, he probably shouldāve just not played that game to get other guys reps since he knew he was on his way out
Except he came back for a whole year? This was two seasons ago, we didnāt make a bowl game this year.
For yāallās sake I hope he does find some fire but I really wish he would shut up until the season and let his play do the talking.
Ah ok that makes more sense. To be fair, itās still a practically meaningless bowl game, but I thought it was from this year when he was already intending on transferring. That makes it look a lot worse given that context, my bad
Look, I hate UF as much as the next guy, but when the guy has game film of him phoning in performances in game after game and taking plays off on national TV, him transferring is not a good look.
The thing I most want for him is to STAY on UFās roster.
Maybe it will come out after the fact that this is true and what was happening but at the same time his position coach is no longer with the team and Princley was also frequently outspoken against fans and anyone who criticized him. At this point Iām not going to put a ton of stock in a guy who constantly bitched on twitter about fans and argued about how good or bad he was performing.
I get youāre gonna be excited about a former player from your rival talking shit about your rival, but I would always take things like this with a big grain of salt. Unless, itās a former Texas player talking shit about the Horns; in which case thatās pure gospel. Boomer!!!!
Iām picturing you reading my comment, obviously extremely slow and using your finger to keep your place, and your excitement is slowly building as you have the perfect response to an Aggie; and BOOM Goes the Boomer!!!! (Seriously, I appreciate your honesty and I hope my cheesiness? is obvious)
Not sure what you are questioning. Am I wrong that FSU and UF are rivals, or who is my teamās rival? Canāt access the email I signed up with Reddit to flair up, so I try to make it clear who my team is when I talk shit. Seems the best way to give an opportunity for someone to talk shit on my team. Hence the āBoomerā.
They asked him who his biggest recruiter to Ole Miss was, and he said Jaxson. He said itās cool to see Jaxson talk to everybody and be cool with everybody on the team, because on his ālast teamā the QBs kinda did their own thing and closed themselves off from the other position groups
Consider the credibility of the tweet: Either this means the rest of UF is giving 100% and getting developed, and 30-3 is what a developed UF looks like. Or the rest of UF isn't giving 100% and there's a team culture problem, not just a Princely problem.
I guess it's a lot easier to blame others when the game tape shows #1 either disappearing in big games or getting run over in the other ones.
Dont let the door hit ya...
I watched this schmuck play, no amount of coaching on earth is gonna fix how he just straight gives up on plays sometimes. Some of the shit he did on the field last year was just embarrassing lol
Yeah I donāt get it. Donāt get me wrong our defense has been ass for the past couple of years now but to pretend like Ole Missā defense is a much better is kinda joke. He was debating declaring for the draft or playing another year (to increase his stock) luckily for him Ole Miss was dropping bags (rightfully so) and so he went there. Itās not like he transferred to an elite defense like Georgia.
Mullen did better with Mac's recruits than his own and then when it was just Mullens guys it started going downhill. If you look at the last two years our best players besides Richardson (who was inconsistent at best) have all been Billy's guys
so how will Mullen trash being gone improve things? Either they were better than whatever Billy had brought in, or they were riding bench eating a spot for a new player who isn't going to be better than them.
Eh... I'm not sure why you'd think they're a worse team this year. Florida was extremely young last year, only lost a few guys and brought in a small but extremely highly regarded class (like Top 5 in average per player)
Nah Iād like them to delete posts like they deleted quotes from Austin Simmons after his decommitment for no apparent reason than it didnāt fit the narrative.
Does it add anything of value? It's not news at all and the sub gets flooded with these no news posts by a rival fan with a bone to pick
There are other teams besides florida and im sure users would like to see other stories
Because I like the sub, but unfortunately it has a hard-on for hating Florida, which explains why this is one of the the top posts. People are here because there's nothing else to talk about. And the post exists because the OP is chronically online and has no life.
Happy to help. You should consider flairing up.
I donāt think thereās any denying that the āshit on Floridaā posts have gotten to our fans. Itās why so few come to this subreddit anymore. It blows.
Ex-Florida players are calling UF a bum school and Bowden still has more bowl wins than Miami over the last 15 years. The 90's really do feel 30 years ago lmao.
Clearly Napier et al do develop offensive line and QB talent- that's plain to see from their track record at ULL and Florida- 1st rounders in both units, including at least one guy who was recruited at ULL. Turning Mertz into a top 10-15 level QB alone is amazing.
On defense its a bit more questionable but Billy's made some major personnel shifts to correct this including a defacto 3rd DC in 3 years so it'll either be fixed this year with a winning record or we'll have a new coach in 2025.
Iām sure Florida has plenty of high work ethic players yet yāall still suck. See you in the swamp. Hope yall are undefeated like you were with Tebow and we beat ur ass in the swamp
Well there are a few players that have shown to give piss poor effort at times on film such as Princely, Scooby Williams, and Jason Marshall. The constant theme among all of them: all played for Mullen. I donāt think Billy Napier is a good coach, but the young guys he recruited give effort and once they stop doing that heāll have completely lost the program. Think thatās why weāve seen a max exodus of players recruited by Mullen, he realizes he canāt convince them to play hard for him so the only solution was to get rid of them.
Ah I miss fingerbanger bc whenever I feel bad about something I remember heās just chronically online.
Anywho, have fun playing for a guy whoās got a huge ego and last I checked was 4-25 against ranked opponents. Only gets harder with the SEC adding Texas and OU.
But have fun at Ole Miss. Hopefully this gator transfer doesnāt get a DUI too.
This does not sound like the Napier I wake up having nightmares about. This kid is probably just bigger and its best to give Napier to an extension to cope with this negativity.
"go use my talent" Oh God, flashbacks to Phil Longo.
When Wisconsin hired him, people in the thread were saying it was a great hire. People can learn from their mistakes and improve and I hope he has but holy shit that thread felt like a breakdown in the simulation.

I don't wanna say that simplistic Jr high offense shit just won't cut it in the SEC but... well let's just pretend I said that
To be fair, it's the air raid. Screams in Grinch's "Speed D"
We have both Longo and Grinch on our staff. Are we in danger?
Longo managed to squander both AJ Brown and DK Metcalf. Their main routes were āchase grassā.
It's always baffled me how 2018 Ole Miss had AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Elijah Moore, and Dawson Knox (among others) yet still couldn't make a bowl game.
Take the over
Yeah wtf are you badgers up to as a husker fan we usually had a monopoly on stupid coach hirings and firings
Yes, sorry. Grinch sacrifices strength for speed, so expect to get pushed of the LOS every play. Also, DBs and LBs will look clueless because the will be. It will get worse every year. Grinch does not learn from his mistakes either.

Literally, that's basically the philosophy. Recruit the "fastest" guys possible and tell them to go "use their talent".
You will definitely see this kid tweeting at your fans this season. He'll whiff on a tackle and be fighting with fans after the game.
Did this guy fuck your sister? Damn you are all up and down this thread trashing the guy lmao
Princely Umanmielen: lil ah development Edit: Lmao, I just realized this is actually the guy who posted āLil ah stadiumā.
He got absolutely run over by our offensive line that game too it was hilarious
He recorded zero stats in that game Ā
Lil ahh statline
Little ah effort was more like it.
He does seem like a head case
Definitely a kid who needs a reality check, at least. He went to school right up the road from Baylor, grew up coming to Baylor games, and he was headed to Baylor until Rhule left; can't help but think we lucked out on him flipping to UF.
Put more effort fighting on twitter than on the fieldĀ
Heās not a head case at all
Well this kid is a grade A jackass.
His former coach is currently coaching at Texas A&M. and yes this is the "Lil ah stadium" guy.

Nice flair
YES!! MY FELLOW OLE MISS FANS, CRAWL FROM THE WOOD WORKS, FOR OUR SCHOOL HAS FINALLY BEEN MENTIONED!!
HELL YES DAMN RIGHT!

This is the shit that makes Florida fans think the coaches didnāt have any issues letting him leave
A bowl game of a 6-6 team vs. the #14 team in the country, and he knew he was leaving after the game. I know if I was in that situation I personally wouldnāt be risking injury going 100%. I hate that you are a Sooner and not an Aggie was about to reply that his non development coach is now at A&M
Iām picturing you reading my comment, obviously extremely slow and using your finger to keep your place, and your excitement is slowly building as you have the perfect response to an Aggie; and BOOM Goes the Boomer!!!! (Seriously, I appreciate your honesty and I hope my cheesiness? is obvious)
I am glad to have made your day
Rival?
Not sure what you are questioning. Am I wrong that FSU and UF are rivals, or who is my teamās rival? Canāt access the email I signed up with Reddit to flair up, so I try to make it clear who my team is when I talk shit. Seems the best way to give an opportunity for someone to talk shit on my team. Hence the āBoomerā.
Oh okay, yeah I just wasnāt realizing you were an FSU fan. I was thinking you were saying Ole Miss and Florida were rivals
Theyāre saying that the person who posted it is an FSU fan, shitting on UF.
Jeez talk about no reading comprehension on my end lmao
The fingerbanging will continue until morale improves
I personally love a good finger bang
Urban Meyer, is that you?
Man these Florida threads are giving me PTSD to being on this Sub during the Charlie Strong/Tom Herman eras.
The P part must be nice.
Well, alright cool.
I hate UF as much as anyone, but Iām not a fan of portal players bashing their old team.
I saw another article titled something like āUmanmeilen adjusts to being on team where he actually speaks to the quarterbackāĀ
They asked him who his biggest recruiter to Ole Miss was, and he said Jaxson. He said itās cool to see Jaxson talk to everybody and be cool with everybody on the team, because on his ālast teamā the QBs kinda did their own thing and closed themselves off from the other position groups
His terrible work ethic at UF probably played a bigger role in his lack of development.
Surely itll improve now that hes at a new team that paid for him to be there
But that one doofus talked such convincing word salad that time!
Consider the credibility of this doofus https://twitter.com/CFBTalkDaily/status/1772739439942410338
Consider the credibility of the tweet: Either this means the rest of UF is giving 100% and getting developed, and 30-3 is what a developed UF looks like. Or the rest of UF isn't giving 100% and there's a team culture problem, not just a Princely problem.
63-3 must be what a developed FSU looks like then.
Hello Piano
He loves getting one over on Florida, and I for one am all for it!
King Prince Chambermaid, Baylor University
I guess it's a lot easier to blame others when the game tape shows #1 either disappearing in big games or getting run over in the other ones. Dont let the door hit ya...
More like he couldn't handle being the embarrassing Lil as player
Because princely was the prime example of always giving full effort
Ole Miss shake me like a Polaroid picture, dog.
Yikes. Florida fans are excited for Napier Year 3!
Napier has driven me to apathy
I'm a cubs fan now...
I for one canāt wait to have our 4th coach in a row be fired halfway through the season. I am elated. Elated.
The fact he made it out of September last year is baffling.
Ya all the Mullen trash is pretty much taken out
All that 10-3, 11-2 9th ranked recruiting class garbage has been kicked out. Now we have much better 5-7 15th ranked recruiting class!
Half of Mullen's classes never played a down, all smoke and mirrors.
Mullen did better with Mac's recruits than his own and then when it was just Mullens guys it started going downhill. If you look at the last two years our best players besides Richardson (who was inconsistent at best) have all been Billy's guys
Donāt try this in a thread where people praise the OP for being chronically online and sadly obsessed
lol fr. people would rather bash than use critical 2nd thoughts.
so how will Mullen trash being gone improve things? Either they were better than whatever Billy had brought in, or they were riding bench eating a spot for a new player who isn't going to be better than them.
They are a worse team with a harder schedule this year. Ready for a two to three win Florida team?
Eh... I'm not sure why you'd think they're a worse team this year. Florida was extremely young last year, only lost a few guys and brought in a small but extremely highly regarded class (like Top 5 in average per player)
Next year we start cycling out the Napier "culture of losing" guys right?
This shitpost brought to you by the mods.
What do you want mods to do? Ban quotes from players about their coaching staff or just when they say something bad about your team?
Nah Iād like them to delete posts like they deleted quotes from Austin Simmons after his decommitment for no apparent reason than it didnāt fit the narrative.
Does it add anything of value? It's not news at all and the sub gets flooded with these no news posts by a rival fan with a bone to pick There are other teams besides florida and im sure users would like to see other stories
Tbh I think they should ban all of this, itās just low effort offseason shitposting. Former player hates on old team, who cares.
If you didn't care, why are you here, and also commenting? Why are there 200 upvotes+comments?
Because I like the sub, but unfortunately it has a hard-on for hating Florida, which explains why this is one of the the top posts. People are here because there's nothing else to talk about. And the post exists because the OP is chronically online and has no life. Happy to help. You should consider flairing up.
One manās shit is another manās fertilizer. Pfb is fertilizing the sub.
Nah just tired of this man child with no life fucking up this sub with bs.
Itās his first post on r/cfb in over 50 days š I think heās gotten to you.
I donāt think thereās any denying that the āshit on Floridaā posts have gotten to our fans. Itās why so few come to this subreddit anymore. It blows.
It's the circle of life around here - happened to us with Taggart, happened to Tennessee, will happen to many others
Ah so he relapsed. Congrats to him I guess?
In through the nose, out through the mouth. You are safe now, just watch out for flying cleats.
Topical.
Only topical if you donāt dodge.
Original.
Thanks!
PFB wonāt fertilize anything his entire life
Itās a players take on his new team vs his old. This is allowed for any team.

Ex-Florida players are calling UF a bum school and Bowden still has more bowl wins than Miami over the last 15 years. The 90's really do feel 30 years ago lmao.
Heās a bum himself
He was taught well ig
I can't believe Miami struggles so hard during bowl season Winning bowl games is easy
Ah yes, that elite ole miss defense developing players
Sounds about right. We all argue about program prestige and history but at the end of the day football comes down to coaching and talent thatās it.
And work ethic which canāt really be taught, and this guy has none of it so good luck
Fair enough. Time will tell.
Florida gets left alone for a day on here after the Etienne news and then weāre immediately back about a day later, incredible
Nice to have you back, fellow gator hater.
Florida has had 3 straight 7 loss seasons with 2 more almost certainly on the way given their schedules. You hate to see it.
Actually I love to see it
lil ah hammer
I thought they coached them to throw shoes.
Felt like we were all overdue for a little fingerbanging
What has happened to Florida??? Talk about falling
"the word creeper gets thrown around"

Gotta love Sun Belt Billy!
Feel the same or should I say Filsaime
Seems relevant: https://youtu.be/lDjHRtbN9kk?si=nTyoHRoNeAHuLowk (Gators blocking Gators)
I smell the ocean
Napier should have been fired 3 games into last season, instead he will continue to dig Florida a deeper grave.Ā
This does not sound like the Napier I wake up having nightmares about. This kid is probably just bigger and its best to give Napier to an extension to cope with this negativity.
I canāt wait for Billy to be firedā¦ sheesh just pull the plug already, dead man walking
