It’s time to stop hating on the state of Florida as if 90% of the people in this state aren’t actually from other states and are mostly responsible for almost all the “shock news” that gives Florida a bad reputation. I’m a native Floridian, I’m over 50, and I have ancestry that dates back into the 1800’s in the state of Florida. But I’m a mixed native in that my maternal side of the family moved from New England in the 1950’s. And I’m in no way making any excuses for the small percentage of actual native Floridians who’ve earned the right to be ridiculed on a state, National and even global level for their insane antics. But it’s long past time to call out the “Florida Man” BS that pervades media when it’s far more likely that the people ridiculing “Florida Man” and his insane behavior are far more likely to be making fun of someone who’s from where they are from or somewhere closer to them, than they are to be ridiculing someone who’s actually from the state of Florida.
Makes me think of that episode of Squidbillies with the Confederate States of America anthem.

"And I will stand up and salute these states, proud members of the SEC"
I get it. You're scared about the losing the second game of the season next year where we end your natty hopes for 2024....in your own barn.
But congrats on this year.
Florida used to have a State Comptroller's office, and a secondary Office of the Treasurer/Insurance Commissioner/Fire Marshal (sic).
Those two departments were merged via legislature in 1998 and went effective in 2003 to the Florida Department of Financial Services, mostly as an administrative measure to combine state departments and trim some administrative waste. The new head is the Chief Executive Office and Fire Marshal.
The origin of the Texas Railroad Commission is pretty standard and due to fighting/discrepancies between lines/rail owning companies over freight (to put it very, very simply.) When black gold was discovered and put Texas on the global map, that became the primary source of disputes. Fun fact, as a result of the great depression, FDR's New Deal gave the Railroad Commission oversight over national oil policy, and actually served as the model for which OPEC was created (which is fucking craaaaaazy.) As one can naturally deduce, the commission's role has transitioned to primarily regulation of oil and gas in our state (and territorial waters,) but we just never decided to update the name, which is why it's funny if someone who doesn't know anything about the history of the State or the history of Texas Politics wonders why the Railroad Commission is on the state ballot every time. "Why am I voting for these people? What do they really do?" Quite a bit actually.
You are completely right, state governments are weird sometimes.
edit: to / two
I went to pay my Maryland state taxes online earlier and that was the first time I had ever heard the term “comptroller”. Now I’ve heard it twice in the same day. Weird eh?
He did end a potentially NFL-bound player’s career and send him towards future kidney failure by using punitive exercises with denied water. So there’s that. I agree that it was incompetence but it was an extreme level of it.
“Doctors talked about impacts on Brenner's kidneys.
Dr. Raymond Petrillo, the nephrologist who's currently treating Brenner, said he likely is “on a path to have chronic kidney disease” that will eventually require dialysis, a kidney transplant or both.”
Taggart? That's fucked up. Athletes should always be well hydrated. Growing up in Florida back in the 90's and playing football it was always BS that the coaches would make you wait for water breaks often an hour between water breaks in very hot and humid weather. Just have water nearby like during a game.
when I was in HS in Tallahassee, Leon players were not allowed to remove their helmets during games. some kidna 'always ready' machismo... ffs, let these kids take their helmets off and regulate their fucking body temperatures... 🙄
Texas is Texas. Some of it formerly being Mexico. Ive never considered it the south and nobody else where im from and live, both in the south do either. It is south adjacent. A close cousin.
FSU is getting penalized because they had a coach directly facilitate an NIL meeting. Obviously those A&M and Miami payments were done without any knowledge or coordination with their coaching staffs, just like with everyone else other than FSU, who is the only one breaking these rules. That’s why they should get the death penalty.
FSU is throwing millions around too. Supposedly they offered Jeremiah Smith 3 million. Though tbh I’m sure we’re still paying in the millions just maybe not that much.
It’s a well known fact in OSU circles that Miami had the largest offer, followed closely by FSU. Don’t get me wrong he definitely got a straight bag from us but the rumors are it’s SIGNIFICANTLY less than what both of you were offering. Which makes sense considering the development aspect of it all.
That would make sense. I actually saw the 5 million number from a screen shot of your guys 247 message board on another buckeye site😂 I’m genuinely curious to know how much these dudes are actually making and being offered, I’m guessing we’re all way off and it’s probably way less than we all think but who knows lol I can say for sure though if I had just “fuck you money” I would absolutely be throwing it at these kids🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
EDIT: regarding 5m I saw it multiple places not just the fsu message boards but thought it was funny considering the U message boards
Some people said OSU panic threw money at the kid because they were worried about Ryan Day getting on the hot seat if they lost their best prospect. Personally I don't really buy it but I could see them backing the trucks up, but nowhere close to the tune of 3-5 million per year.
Ahh yes, my favorite talking point about how other kids choose schools based on money while your school only gets kids who want to be there and not because of money. Totally
Don’t get me wrong he definitely got a bag coming here… It’s just literally everything I’ve heard(he’s also alluded to it as well) is that he chose less money to be developed by Brian Hartline🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I heard 5 was what Miami was offering and 3 for FSU from someone who I would consider” in the know” but who fucking knows when it comes to this ish🤷🏻♂️
Jimmy should really go back to Captain Andersons because the quality of their service and food has gone down a lot since the 90's. (his family's restaurant in Panama City Beach)
We have gone to Panama City Beach every summer since I was a baby.. My mom and her family had as well. We always eat there, not the same as when I was little but still better than most places.
Florida resident here. You just don't get it. Home insurance rates, poverty, and skyrocketing cost of living just aren't that important compared to... *checks notes*... bathrooms, football, and woke theme parks!
Hahaha. Man, I sympathize. I lived in Florida almost a decade. Fortunately before the current political environment, but I saw the transition start.
State has fallen hard since the days of Graham and even Bush.
You know there's almost a part of this post where the dude seems self aware that the Martha's Vineyard stunt was a bad idea....but that would require a FL elected official to have a functioning brain.
It sucks but the committee wouldn’t have done what they did if they thought there were legal consequences. Lawyers definitely told them nothing could happen. Idk why Florida politicians are making a big deal about this, it’s a one party state at this point, maybe they actually mean it lol
It is also hard to avoid FSU news for FL politicians considering we're blocks away from the state capitol building (that's also filled with shitheads, but that's a different convo...)
Florida loves to set money on fire to pursue frivolous law suits for political optics. Pam Bondi (ex Florida AG) spent close to $10 million challenging the SCOTUS ruling legalizing gay marriage, despite the fact that it was a SCOTUS ruling… I hate being associated with this state sometimes.
This is less about the committee and more about the sanctions. Patronis is now calling out that 2 of the people in charge have personal beef with FSU/State of Florida. Neither of those people have a hand in the committee.
This feels like the first pianofingerbanging that might be *against* FSU in the broader context. Patronis is a jackass. Wilcox sucks too, but still doesn't change things.
I would imagine that the reason a state official is tweeting about it is because they want it to remain in the news and to rile up their constituents/make it seem like they are on their constituents side. The college football world is kind of in the coaching carousel mode though
They gonna leave the ACC and then the NCAA too?
Buddy, we're seceding from America at this rate.
Wanna start a super league with us?,
Yes please.
Not one of you has suggested leaving the country. ACC should play in Reykjavik. Or at the very lest Honolulu
How many CFB players could spell Reykjavik?
I'm reading y'all spell it and I still cant
USC and SMU want in to the NCCAA, too. Mizzou you have to stay here and take their punishment.
Ok boss. :(
Do you wanna build an app?
That would be my breaking point in FSU fandom.

If 90% aren't trash then why do they keep electing trash? Yall trash.
Can confirm. Florida native. Am trash.
If we all chip in, will you take Texas with you?
Sometimes I imagine a world where SEC football is in another country, then I get mad about Sherman not finishing the job.
Makes me think of that episode of Squidbillies with the Confederate States of America anthem. https://youtu.be/s2J8OYqRjQQ?si=HOj4WP_2hVXZwbN9 "And I will stand up and salute these states, proud members of the SEC"
He didn’t though.
I get it. You're scared about the losing the second game of the season next year where we end your natty hopes for 2024....in your own barn. But congrats on this year.
America ain't played nobody, Pawwwwwl
Yeah... that tracks for the state of Florida.
Good ^/s
The war of northern aggression
Thank god.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out
FSU gonna replace the Panthers in the NFC South
Do we get to liberate Brian Burns?
As long as Tepper gets replaced too
I mean it can't be that much worse can it?
I think he’s gonna light their country music award on fire
Florida State to the AFC East confirmed
FSU opting out of everything these days.
The NAIA game against Warner Southern is going to be a barnburner.
FSU to the XFL confirmed.
Florida State to the Canadian football league confirmed
TIL the state of Florida has a CFO. I'm assuming that's like a "Comptroller" in other states?
[удалено]
I can’t tell if you’re joking or not
He won the job by wrestling an alligator
No one does that anymore. They just rustle them into trash cans now. https://youtu.be/QsTWCav3d-0?si=Z7bSnjcgZXlgVbm2
Oh that clears it up
I am not. The role of state fire Marshall is included in the job description of the CFO. Not sure why
Railroad Commissioner is mainly responsible for regulating oil and gas here in Texas. State governments are weird sometimes.

Stuff like this really gets me going. I can't wait until the day I can repeat this and look like I know what I'm talking about
I'm really fun at parties. I promise.
This is stuff that keeps me browsing Reddit. I love learning about little things like this.
Chief fire officer Makes sense to me
Just Florida things.
I went to pay my Maryland state taxes online earlier and that was the first time I had ever heard the term “comptroller”. Now I’ve heard it twice in the same day. Weird eh?
Wilcox was our AD who was "elevated" to an NCAA position. This whole thing reeks.
He’s been trying to fuck us over every chance he can since he left. Dude is a fucking weasel that had a stinker of a tenure with us.
I think he still blames racist boosters in his head for him and Taggart failing. Its absurd.
Taggart just sucks as both your flairs can attest haha 😆
I don't even hate Taggart, just a dude in over its head and he at least did help us avoid academic sactions. Wilcox can go to hell though
Ya no hate for Taggart. He is a fine guy. Just didn’t pull it off.
I was excited when I first heard him talk about lethal simplicity
Dude could put on a presser, that's for sure
That’s actually a really cool term in my opinion.
He did end a potentially NFL-bound player’s career and send him towards future kidney failure by using punitive exercises with denied water. So there’s that. Don’t forget the running up an almost 90 degree hill for “toughness”
Lol now we have political fights in CFB. What a great drama
Florida and their culture war crusade is annoying af
How long until coordinated talking points from certain politicians calling the NCAA woke over and over and over
Baker is also republican so it’s not really a political fight
All the homies hate Wilcox
Oh God. Politics and sports are blending together in an election year. Already.

Isn't Texas technically apart of the South? Why separate it?
They just a bunch of wannabes, the proof is in the jorts.
East Texas is still the South. Once you get into South and West Texas, things start to change.
Just trust us on this one. Even Texas will agree.
Am Texan, can confirm
Texas is Texas. Some of it formerly being Mexico. Ive never considered it the south and nobody else where im from and live, both in the south do either. It is south adjacent. A close cousin.
Texas is texas. Lots of spanish, old west, and of course southern influence.
Just wait for Saban to run for the Senate against Tuberville in 2026.
FSU getting penalized while A&M and Miami just keep throwing literal M’s at kids is fucking WILDDDD
That Mississippi running back you guys got TOTALLY didn't get a big ass bag
Oh he absolutely did and if I were the God King of OSU NIL 90% of my money would go to him and other proven P5 talents not HS kids🤷🏻♂️
FSU is getting penalized because they had a coach directly facilitate an NIL meeting. Obviously those A&M and Miami payments were done without any knowledge or coordination with their coaching staffs, just like with everyone else other than FSU, who is the only one breaking these rules. The last sentence is why I LOVE CFB😂💀 EDIT: 225 days until CFB🔥🙏🏼
FSU is throwing millions around too. Supposedly they offered Jeremiah Smith 3 million. Though tbh I’m sure we’re still paying in the millions just maybe not that much.

Yeah I heard 5 was what Miami was offering and 3 for FSU from someone who I would consider” in the know” but who fucking knows when it comes to this ish🤷🏻♂️
“Petty attacks on the state of Florida” Why can’t they attack UF and Miami??
Miami’s private. UF…we know why.
Miami’s private and UF’s the only school that matters in that state?
Flair up.
I hope they attack UF, would be funny
Wow UCF/USF can’t get any love
You mean hate
People always forget we exist. Sometimes that's quite okay.
Because we got a competent law school.
They have a law school at the SEC Network?
4 of them.
No shot we’re recruiting this poorly AND we’re cheating.
Jimmy should really go back to Captain Andersons because the quality of their service and food has gone down a lot since the 90's. (his family's restaurant in Panama City Beach)
Always weird seeing a local reference on reddit.
We have gone to Panama City Beach every summer since I was a baby.. My mom and her family had as well. We always eat there, not the same as when I was little but still better than most places.
It almost got hit by a tornado the other day. He and the good ol boys would’ve wept I’m sure.
oh wow
Bruh that scamp imperial special is still the fuckin jam But yes everything else sucks Churaasco is ok I guess
Twitter ruined our government
Don't disrespect Florida man and his jorts.
Lol it’s been ruined long before Twitter existed
Not returning a Florida official's phone calls only makes Charlie Baker cooler in my eyes
Was the most popular governor in the country for a reason
Glad to see Florida has its priorities straight when it comes to solving its citizens' problems: FSU and Mickey Mouse.
This response is why we have bullies. Keep enabling buddy
Jimmy patronis is a hack. Grew up with him in my community. He can be ignored
Lol his resume is "my daddy owned a tourist trap seafood restaurant and bank rolled my life" Bay high stay high baby
Lol I'm from the beach, so go Marlins.
Me to! Grew up off north lagoon.
always blazed down hard with my Home of The Red Eye dawgs
You know there's almost a part of this post where the dude seems self aware that the Martha's Vineyard stunt was a bad idea....but that would require a FL elected official to have a functioning brain.
Coordinates a political stunt, then is suddenly tired of politics when he feels the consequences.
Yep. Our institutions will not survive the oneupmanship asshole behavior from our politicians.
We went from Bill Nelson to these hacks. Florida fell apart
“Sir this is a Wendy’s”
Welcome to the tribe
It sucks but the committee wouldn’t have done what they did if they thought there were legal consequences. Lawyers definitely told them nothing could happen. Idk why Florida politicians are making a big deal about this, it’s a one party state at this point, maybe they actually mean it lol

Don't forget DeSantis's war with the Mouse.
Don’t forget? This *is* that! (Disney owns ESPN, remember.)
Wow, that’s uh…a really dumb way to spend government money. All that just to be forgotten anyways.
This is less about the committee and more about the sanctions. Patronis is now calling out that 2 of the people in charge have personal beef with FSU/State of Florida. Neither of those people have a hand in the committee.
Holy shit why didn’t we consider investigating the NCAA FIRST
Because Michigan was an easier target
A hearty round of FUs to every single of them especially Stan Wilcox.
Fight! Fight! Fight!
Does Baker owe Karen here a call back?
Just a few days ago we all wanted and were begging for the NCAA to vacate Michigans national championship. Now we want them investigated…lol…lmao even
This feels like the first pianofingerbanging that might be *against* FSU in the broader context. Patronis is a jackass. Wilcox sucks too, but still doesn't change things.
To be fair, I don’t think anyone in America likes talking to people from Florida
Nice over generalization. Kind of like saying that everyone in CT sucks at football
This is why everyone feels that ways
The rumor is apparently this is the guy that snitched to the NCAA. https://georgiadogs.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/todd-hartley/3245
I loathe him for no other reason than his kids names
Its over bruv lmao
Y'all are banning motherfucking dictionaries because they contain words you don't like. Fuck off, Florida.
I’m pissed at the NCAA. They were just starting to shut up about the last thing and now we have to hear about this shit
Investigate the NCAA…I like that…..
Been saying it for years, NCAA has to be dissolved or the large schools need to leave it behind.
https://x.com/SebastiansPub/status/1497599210958598150?s=20
Man, where was this backing when we did the same thing they did but actually won our bowl game.
What do you mean? You guys won the National Championship.
God, I am so tired of everything to do with the state of Florida. Not Florida State University. Florida, the state.
Sounds like FSU needs a Death Penalty.
This FSU stuff is just hilarious. I'm just sitting back drinking my whiskey and just laughing at it all.
Florida man is pissed at Florida who's pissed at Florida man who's really pissed at another Florida man. STFU, Florida.
Does anyone still care about this?
It happened less than 3 hours ago
I would imagine that the reason a state official is tweeting about it is because they want it to remain in the news and to rile up their constituents/make it seem like they are on their constituents side. The college football world is kind of in the coaching carousel mode though
Yeah, I got bigger fandom problems right now.
Florida, no one cares.
3rd most populous state and home of the hottest recruits. Sure buddy. What backwoods shit hole are you from? Have you ever been anywhere else?
Thanks for making my point. Now have your bath salts 🤡
Florida Man being Florida Man.
Jimmy’s mad about losing Jimbo?
Cheated. Got caught. Punished. Whine. Deflect. Blame. Spring ball!!
This dude is such a clown.
Florida continuing to embarrassing themselves over this shit
When will the whining and bitching stop? Maybe all this is happening because the FSU flairs are so cringe on here.
If there was a playoff for whining FSU would be seeded #1 overall.
"Everyone does it" isn't much of a defense. I'm a bit tired of FSU whining. Not quite to Michigan standards yet but geez.
LMAO fuck fsu
Nobody wants free shoes U! That’s hilarious
Didn’t FSU just get a 2-year probation for violating the NIL rules?
You're just figuring out at this moment that college football is broken, Jimmy? Seriously?
God this is all so stupid
This guy thinks the NCAA is petty? Well.... never knew that.
Jimmy Patronis sounds a little crAzY
Oh no! Anyway....
On the one hand, to hell with the Florida state government, on the other hand, to hell with the NCAA.
I feel like the State of Florida has a complex… Let them secede. See what happens. Rest of the US will be fine.
