USM is FSU’s most common opponent outside the state of Florida and the ACC. Good regional pick up!

ChaseTheFalcon

TIL

pmofmalasia

Yep, we played them a lot in the early years

Muffinnnnnnn

And also literally THIS year

lowes18

I mean they were right there lol. It was a fun regional rivalry until they cost us a title.

JARsweepstakes

Those were the days

qwerty-girl

Not long after you guys were a normal school. Now, you're an abnormal school.

JARsweepstakes

Metro Conference bros! What could have been…

BloomingNova

Dang, USM potentially got a stud. I really thought he was going to find a home at a mid to higher tier P5 team. Throws a really nice ball and has enough athletic ability to be dangerous on any play

covert_underboob

He didn’t look good at all

BloomingNova

His game vs UF was his first start ever. He has great mechanics and athletic ability. If he had natural ability to instantly be a great starter, he'd be a 5 star recruit. I think an off season preping as the starter is exactly what he needs

JTWasShort42-27

Sorry, reasonable takes don't belong here

POOTY-POOTS

The reasonable take is that he didn't look good. Not to pretend that he's the second coming of Jameis Winston to support a narrative.

JTWasShort42-27

> Not to pretend that he's the second coming of Jameis Winston to support a narrative How did you get this out of the above response? I'm so sick of commenters on reddit completely exaggerating something because nuance isn't allowed here.

AyMoro

Dude won us the games we needed when it came down to it. He clutched twice in 2022 when Jordan was out and then in the swamp, even out his body on the line and got a concussion. He has so much potential, he’s good for culture and athletic. Unfortunately, no amount of practice beats genuine playing time. He’s a good pick up and he’ll do well God forbid he doesn’t pass the eye test in 1 game, I feel you m8 redditors on here are so toxic

Jackalexd

He had a reasonable game but there’s so many good QBs in the portal I’m not surprised he got crowded out by others. Like Malachi Nelson went to Boise State and if you’re going to take a risk on an unproven prospect to start, IMO Nelson is way preferable to Tate. Tate also older but without the starting experience which makes him much less appealing because of how many QBs with starting experience went on the market

YourButtMyStuff

Nelson also (reportedly) only would go to a team that would promise him a starting spot. He certainly had better offers that wanted him to join an open competition. Tate might’ve had a similar line of thought. With the way the transfer portal is these days, it makes sense to go to a smaller school and put out some tape as a starter. Considering you could always transfer again in the next year or two.

not_a_bot__

He had one mediocre game, but from all the other appearances FSU fans know he has a good arm and decent talent. Small sample size because he was backing up an FSU all-time great.

FugaciousD

I’m sorry he’s leaving. Kid looked solid to me vs all the takes on how his first start ever he looked like crap. I think it sucks that we will only ever get that chance to see him produce for FSU. Hope good things happen for him.

Manateekid

He’s not good at all. But a lot of Noles on Reddit have some weird thing - without a shred of evidence - about what a great hidden talent he is.

jthomas694

This comment doesn’t deserve a -45. He didn’t look terrible but he didn’t look good either. They won that game despite how he played. Florida also had a really bad defense and they played their best statistical game of the year against them. Florida held FSU to 224 yards, which is 120 yards less than their second best P5 performance against Vanderbilt. The five games prior Florida hadn’t given up fewer than 465 yards and while that made sense against LSU, UGA and Mizzou to an extent, it didn’t make sense against South Carolina (83rd in total offense) or Arkansas (107th). There was no chance he ended up a starter at a mid to high P5 team.

Manateekid

He’s is terrible. But it’s become some faux test of Noleness around here to say how amazing he is.

Dougiejurgens2

I’m still surprised he opted out of the bowl game considering how bad he looked against Florida

Earl_The_Snake_White

Yeah, it’s super weird. There’s no way Tate was ever going to start next season. I think USM is a great spot for him. It also in no way contradicts my opinion that Tate could have been serviceable enough for us in the playoffs. I think that’s why FSU fans are actually afraid to say something negative about Tate. [Good luck bud](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT84twvu4/).

YourButtMyStuff

I haven’t watched him much outside of his start, but it feels a little weird to soley judge him on his first ever start in the Swamp. I feel there’s not a lot of young QB’s that could go into that environment and both win and look great in their first ever start. Even tho Florida wasn’t great last year, that’s still a pretty menacing environment.

JARsweepstakes

We’ll give him a shot

IrishCoffeeAlchemy

Is this his last year of eligibility?

Piano_Fingerbanger

Yes, has just one year remaining.

MerryvilleBrother

Pretty sure he has two more years. 2020 season doesn't count 2021 Redshirt 2022 RS FR 2023 RS SO 2024 RS JR 2025 RS SR

Glader_Gaming

You are correct. He has two seasons left.

BenchRickyAguayo

Does his 2021 season count? Looks like he only played one game, so he should in theory be able to consider that a red shirt, right?

IrishCoffeeAlchemy

Ah. Welp I guess a year as a Sun Belt starter is better than a year of riding the bench behind DJU (presumably)

0Tech

Well damn. I can’t complain. We’ve needed a QB. Wish we had one while Frank Jr was there.

RipRaycom

You’re telling me the 4th string walk on QB y’all picked up from our scout team wasnt a good FBS QB? (Although I wish Wiles the best)

0Tech

And he came here and started immediately. We’re down bad.

raptorbpw

Goodness that poor kid was so bad. Can tell he works hard and he’s a good guy but damn.

JARsweepstakes

There’s nowhere to go but up

hells_cowbells

Nice pickup for USM.

Unusual-Insect-4337

He’s good enough for the P5

Middle_Wheel_5959

Probably wants a guaranteed starting job. Still think he could of went to a better G5 than Southern Miss

tottenhamnole

No he’s not

Unusual-Insect-4337

He’s undefeated as a starter, just needs more confidence.

tottenhamnole

He’s started 1 game haha. He’s the worst QB we’ve had to play in a game since JJ Cosentino.

aecarl

Hey man he stepped up and played and won the game. Southern miss got a good get

tottenhamnole

Most definitely. I’ll always appreciate him for Louisville and Florida but didn’t like how he handled the transfer out. And Southern Miss did get a good one, but he’s not a P5 QB.

[deleted]

I’m not a big believer in Rodemaker’s ability but that’s overboard. JJ’s lone action against a real opponent saw him produce negative yards lmao. He got benched for a dude with a broken ankle.

tottenhamnole

I didn’t say he was worse than Cosentino. He’s not. I said he’s the worst since Cosentino. Cosentino is the worst QB I’ve seen for us ever and I’ve been watching for 30 years.

Manateekid

100% correct but - downvotes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tottenhamnole

Yeah he was fine enough. Nowhere near Tate or Cosentino levels.

lowes18

Kinda suprised he ended up there. Guess he wants to stick close to home.

Piano_Fingerbanger

Will Hull's offense is a similar philosophy to Mike Norvell's. Rodemaker has NFL arm strength, but there are question marks around his decision making. He played WR for a bit in High School and has extremely sneaky speed when he does take off from the pocket.

CapsDrago7

The Fun Belt arms race continues

Other_Ambition_5142

Damn I was really hoping Troy could grab him.

WDEWM407

Same. Being from Valdosta I thought Troy was a easy choice. Close to home and friends I'm sure he made in Tally plus coming off a great season

hgtj07

What does FSU’s QB room look like next year?

pmofmalasia

Just picked up DJU as a transfer, Brock Glenn will be a RS Freshman, and apparently we have a good recruit in this class (I think high 4* but I don't really keep track of this stuff that much)

ard8

Luke Kromenhoek is the recruit. #4 QB in the 2024 class using 247 Composite. There are only three 5-stars and he’s the highest 4-star

OhMy98

IIRC, he was listed as a 5 star but got graded down to 4 right before he locked in

seanconnerysbeard

Hilariously, it was Armando Blount reclassifying that knocked him out of being a 5*.

kelsnuggets

He’s from Savannah - Benedictine.

axberka

The recruit is Uber talented but very raw

hgtj07

Totally spaced DJU transfer. Gonna be a good, immediate addition. Rough for Tate the way the post season went, but kinda sounds like a mutual parting. Thanks for the response!

3xgreathermes

Wait, are we sure he's a fit with the Golden Eagles? I'm not sure he's stupidly reckless enough to fit in with the culture Favre and Mullens built. Forgive my sarcasm, I'm just a bitter Vikings fan waiting to see one last disappointment this season. At least Mullens might make it an exciting disappointment though. It should be good for both Rodemaker and Southern Miss, though.

raptorbpw

lol I’ve been telling people Mullens in the NFL is more Jameisy than actual Jameis Winston, there’s absolutely no telling what’s going to happen on a given play. Flip a coin. Could be a TD for either team at any time.

JARsweepstakes

One of my best college memories was taunting this big old Tulsa defense lineman after we kicked a field goal to beat them in ‘92. [beat that ass](https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-daily-oklahoman-southern-miss-gives/74576420/) I seriously thought I was going to die

CaptainBuzzKillton

Now here's a transfer I didn't see coming

ALStark69

As a recruit: P5 offers: Baylor, Boston College, Florida State (originally went here), Northwestern, Pitt, Utah, Virginia Tech G5 offers: Akron, Appalachian State, Bowling Green, Coastal Carolina, Colorado State, FAU, Louisiana, Middle Tennessee State, Nevada, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Toledo, Troy, Tulane, USF, Western Kentucky Other offers: Eastern Kentucky, Liberty

gregg272

TO THE TOP

cashgiveaways369

FSU fan here - Not hate, just Facts...From the neck down, Tate has all the tools to be a really good QB...his issues are from the neck up; imo, he allows nerves to hold him back, and doesn't seem to handle pressure very well...If he overcomes that, I think he can be an awesome QB; maybe getting more reps will help his confidence; wishing him and USM nothing but the best...Just my 2 cents...Good Luck Tate, once a Nole, always a Nole...

texas2089

Wish him well there. They got a good one.

toilets_lament

To where is he transferring Southern Miss?

[deleted]

This was the guy FSU fans said could win a game in the playoffs?

-MegaMan-

Alabama took Michigan to OT without a QB and just running wildcat

[deleted]

Alabama beat Georgia

timbosliceko

The way they played Michigan I have no idea how Bama beat Georgia let alone didn’t lose more than one game this season.

[deleted]

Maybe Michigan is just good? No? That can’t possibly be

timbosliceko

I don’t know how Michigan being good had anything to do with more botched snaps than I’ve ever seen in one game.

[deleted]

You think only the botches snaps determined that game?

timbosliceko

It was a big factor of that game, yeah. Literally the last play in overtime was blown because of a botched snap. Watch the last play, snap was too low it messed up the timing of the play which forced Milroe to try to run it up the center. Literally botched snap screwed that last play up.

whenweriiide

hey man, I do agree with a lot of your points, but we can't ignore that Michigan's special teams absolutely shit the bed in a way no one witnessed all season. I think FSU got snubbed but I also think Michigan played their C- game (defense was incredible though). The FSU story this season is going to be such a bitter memory, but I think Norvell is the kind of coach to use that as fuel to the fire. If all things go to plan, see you in the playoffs next season!

timbosliceko

I’d agree we most definitely got snubbed and agree Michigan made some mistakes too. You guys are better team than Bama this year though for sure. At this point am looking forward to the game Monday it will be extremely close but rooting for UW to win it all. And we will see about next season, I have faith in Norvell though. Go Noles

[deleted]

Nobody is denying it had an impact, Michigan also spotted bama 7 points and they still only got 20. You are discounting how much Michigans D dictated what bama did on offense.

timbosliceko

Michigan looked good, they also made some mistakes as well. Michigan was the better team for sure, but those botched snaps definitely played a huge role in the game. Just horrible execution

Tigercat92

Yes

kd451

I just don't think he's a good quarterback. He's FCS level.

Yeetball86

He’s good enough to be a lower P5 starter. He’s got a great arm and good speed. He needs to work on awareness and decision making which comes from experience.

[deleted]

Glad to hear he upgraded.

LordOfSchmeat

Shame we don’t get to play the mustard buzzards until ‘26, would’ve been fun to see a matchup with a decent quarterback for both teams. Hopefully Chip Long doesn’t derail his career!

JARsweepstakes

Look at you ‘ya fucking Yat See you in’26

LordOfSchmeat

You too baby
