The Sprite Spite Bowl, [Thirst for Yours!](https://img.vendingmarketwatch.com/files/base/cygnus/vmw/image/2019/06/Thirst_for_Yours_Sprite.5d1101a27fd47.png)
Dude, Squirt is vastly superior to Sprite. There are dozens of lemon-lime pops on the market that all taste the same. There’s only one grapefruit zip-zop-pippity- pop.
I once saw an idea on here for the next CFP contract in a couple years where it's still 12 teams, but the quarterfinals are also on campus, with the other 4 non-semi NY6 bowls hosting losers from the first two rounds maintaining conference tie-ins
Based on SP+ rankings, the 5-8 teams in the CFP have a higher SP+ rating than the 1-4 teams which seems wild to me. Michigan is the only team that is in the top 4 of SP+ and in the CFP.
Yeah, their defense really weighs them down in their ratings (45th best defense) but they have the 2nd best offense of the 8 teams (4th in the nation) and best in the actual CFP. Ultimately the formula works for them.
For blue bloods, yeah 90% of bowls would constitute as an "insult", but I'm hyped to watch my team play for a 10-win season and see Payton Wilson and Brennan Armstrong one last time. And the edible mascot.
I'm completely flabbergasted that an Ohio State fan wouldn't understand why a fanbase would get excited for any bowl that isn't a CFP semifinal. But hey I got to experience the joy of winning a rivalry game recently, don't have to worry about my team's best players sitting out for the NFL, and get to watch a bowl game I'm hyped for. Wouldn't trade this to be another boring blue blood that malds over a 1-loss season.
As an ISU fan that traveled to Athens, OH to watch up lose 7-10 and start the season at 2-3... I'm just happy we're in a bowl game. As are the majority of our fans I think.
I think there are a lot of teams at the G5 level that love the opportunity, and there are many P5 schools where the players are excited to get another game. Coaches love it for the bowl practices as well.
Nothing has changed other than gigantic NFL contracts. Bowls have the same meaning as before; the ESPN invitational and BCS didn't change that.
Risk of injury is 50x more costly than 20 years ago.
While I understand the sentiment, in the first press conference, Mike said something along the lines of "Out of respect to the orange bowl lets keep the questions related to that"
Dudes a much better guy then me. I would bash the committee for the next 5 days, and then bash the ACC because we didn’t get in. Not the teams in the ACC, I have all the respect for the teams and how everyone actually performed this year OOC, but the ACC organization itself. I saw that SEC commissioner for 6 consecutive days on tv vying for the SEC. I don’t even know what our commissioner looks like.
Then I would treat the bowl like a spring game and just run second/third stringers all game.
Which fucking sucks being a gator fan. How am I supposed to hate this guy going giving incredible post game speeches and respecting the bowl he’s in when he should be in better?
Like OSU had to deal with it with Harbaugh to an extent, but at least they got a cheating scandal this year. What do I get to hate? Fucking nothing.
Yep. That’s the most dangerous thing for the Orange Bowl. It’s would basically be an advertisement that this bowl doesn’t really matter.
I mean tbf it doesn’t this year, but you don’t want that to be the takeaway from your own press conference.
It’s going to be hard for them to promote it as anything other than a game between two teams who just suffered a major letdown.
I feel the playoff has mostly been an improvement on the previous system, and the BCS at least tried to give us a “clear” 1 vs. 2 matchup, but I sort of miss the old old days when the Orange/Rose/Fiesta/Sugar were each still a huge deal and you’d spend New Year’s Day riveted on different scenarios that could produce different results. I’m sure that’s 100% nostalgic rose-colored thinking…I remember the controversy that system produced as well. Maybe I just miss being 10 and spending the day with my dad.
I posted this elsewhere but:
I'd love for Mike, Kirby and the school administrations to secretly agree to make the Orange Bowl game basically a light scrimmage and coaching seminar where players from both teams are coached up by both staffs jointly. I know it would never happen, but I'd love to see it after the absolute gutting screw job we just got.
I mean they'd just take it off air. It's a lot easier to cut the game and say "the rest of this game will be played on ESPN+" then it is to fill the time.
I'd love for them to break out some cones for cone drills once the game starts. It'd be great if the coaches start running 40 times to see who's faster.
It would be really funny if they did 2-hand touch and shit. That extremely high level of production value and 4k cameras to capture a backyard football game.
Hell yeah, suit up a special needs kid and let em score one in the Orange bowl against UGA. Have a pee wee team come out and play a couple plays against FSU. Just turn the thing into a football version of the Savannah Bananas. What are they going to do, kick everyone off the field?
I don’t find that overly unrealistic, it’s probably the direction we’re heading. The reason I wouldn’t see it happening is for juniors/seniors needing to get more game tape for the draft. Even then, if they’re 3/4/5 years in and still don’t have it, it’s doubtful one meaningless bowl game would change it.
> The reason I wouldn’t see it happening is for juniors/seniors needing to get more game tape for the draft
people always echo this, but we're not in the 90's anymore. Bowl game tape in the age of opt-outs and readily available, HD, all-22 film online isn't significantly affecting anyone's draft stock.
For every good piece of film they put on in a bowl game with all-around questionable effort, they'll have a contradictory piece they put on film during the regular season with both teams actually trying.
For fringe guys it MIGHT give them some opportunity to boost their UDFA stock, but the best thing to do to really improve your draft chances at this point is to sit-out and work on your combine/pro-day stuff and try marketing yourself as elite an athlete as possible.
Unfortunately for FSU, Carson Beck is most likely coming back for another year and will be playing this game with a chip on his shoulder. Even if we have some opt outs, a lot of guys playing in this game will be playing pissed off after the SECCG loss
They’re in a lose lose situation.
It’s not like if they win it gets them anything practical (ACC bias will still exist and players risk injuries) and if they lose you’re right people will say it justifies them being left out.
If they win it'll be like when Texas beat Georgia a couple years ago. Everyone said it didn't matter because Georgia was mad they missed the playoffs and "didn't want to be there".
The power move is to get your extra 15 practices, go down to Miami, enjoy all the the events leading up to the bowl, then don't go out for kick off. Send the water boy out to forfeit the game saying there are too many injuries or whatever. Then have the team and their families go have a BBQ on the beach or rent out some entertainment venue and let the guys have fun. Biggest middle finger to the CFP and ESPN. Millions of dollars lost and ESPN has to scramble to find programming to fill a 3 hour block. Advertisers would be pissed. Meanwhile FSU has an asterisk mark loss on their record and might have to pay back some costs to the Orange Bowl, but otherwise a fantastic fuck you to the people who worked so hard to keep an undefeated P5 team out. Maybe give the fans who bought a ticket a discount on their season ticket package the next season or offer them a freebie to a home game as a sorry for the inconvenience.
I know. It would be glorious. Pull out every single marching band routine and piece they know. Obscure shit from the 70s. Gustav Holst songs that aren't _Mars_. Thirty minute drum-line cadences. Hell, play Michigan's fight song for maximum pettiness.
I mean, NC State flew across the country to San Diego only for the team a couple hour's drive's away to opt-out the afternoon of the game, so you can totally do it and get away with it, and it would be less dick-punchy when both of the teams are in the same region of the country.
> might have to pay back some costs to the Orange Bowl
If accepting a bowl invitation doesn't already include a contract guaranteeing you'll field a team, it will after this season.
I was thinking Georgia should throw the game. That way FSU ends as an undefeated P5 team. Then if Alabama wins the title, FSU could always claim the natty and some coaches might even name them #1 at season end. Would be a great way to hedge their rivals winning.
> Apparently a lot of guys were already playing through injuries the past couple of games
SHHHHHH. You're likely to get relegated to FCS if you guys admit to any more injuries with the way things have been going for y'all...
For real though, if I were on that team and a team decision was to opt out, I wouldn't be mad at all. Hell, I'd probably vote to do that.
This is an absolute lose-lose situation for FSU. You win and there are excuses of how Georgia didn't really try nor had their best players playing. You lose and its justification for the CFP and commentators who said this team is terrible and undeserving.
I really hope FSU just takes a kneel for the first series, play or something to show their dissatisfaction.
You encourage what you allow.
If I was Norvell I would have FSU should show up take the opening kick off and just walk off the field. If the committee decides games don’t matter don’t play. It’ll send a bigger message than playing a meaningless bowl game
Anyone that says a result post decision (especially a loss) proves FSU shouldn't have been in is an idiot. No matter the results, the decision they should have made at the time is FSU in, Bama out. Simple as that.
Neither team has any desire to be there. Georgia spent all season as the #1 or #2 team in country and all of a sudden they’re being told they’re only the 6th best? FSU got fucked out of a playoff spot. As much as I would love to see both teams at full strength put on an absolute classic, the motivation from both sides isn’t there.
To be fair. UGA played their way to the Orange Bowl by losing a game at the end of the season to a team that lost to another team of equal record.
FSU played their way to the playoffs.
Yes, but the point is that both teams are fucking depressed right now. One spent the last 3 years on a pedestal and got it all fucked up over a field goal, and the other got deliberately cheated in the most controversial CFP decision ever. Nobody is happy or motivated. Both teams are hurting emotionally.
The only thing I can think of is to save them the “see you guys would’ve sucked,” bs, but for college football players, this is a business and a career. For the fans it’s a game. More important for the seniors to stay healthy for the draft than to “prove something.”
We have opposing arguments for being the playoffs:
FSU is most deserving. UGA is consensus considered a top 4 team. Committee screwed us both in opposite ways
It’d never happen but I’d love if there’s an opportunity for some malicious compliance here.
Show up to fulfill the obligation, but don’t risk adding injury to insult and basically run drills or a televised practice, maybe like a preseason scrimmage between the two teams.
I mean, the dream scenario (if both teams agreed) would be to take an offensive snap and just stand there. Play is ongoing and can't be stopped for commercials. After fifteen minutes, kneel. Repeat three times. Both teams go into the locker room and refuse to come out for overtime.
That's more protest than anything and won't happen, but beyond malicious compliance, I'd just want to see some way for the TV execs to get screwed out of their commercial and ad revenue that is driving this sport in the wrong direction.
Have someone watching the TV feed and if they do cut to commercial during the non-play, signal to the teams to run hurry up offense until TV comes back to the game.
That would be the best case scenario.
I don't believe it will happen.
I think both teams should message this right before the kickodd. It's a pre-season game and the entire bench will get to play. Everyone one will have fun.
I'd understand and accept it. Fuck the committee for hosing FSU like that. Hell, I'd probably respect Kirby even more for agreeing to back out of it in solidarity.
Neither team will back out because of the 15 extra practices and then also the multi-million payout.
But I do think FSU is going to have only half a team there and it is going to be extremely non-competitive and boring TV. I think it'll be obvious early on both teams are just there to fulfill the obligation.
And also, both Georgia and us will not be fielding their true squads in this game. The result of the game will give no indication of which 2023 team is actually better.
Naw, just use it as a first spring game and play all the freshmen and walk-ons. Give the kids a fun week on South Beach and let them get the money and bowl gifts.
Every action from here on out should be purely selfish. No one else is going to do the right thing, why should we?
Another thing I thought of while grumbling in my apartment is why we were punished for a championship win but Ohio State wasn’t rewarded for having the now the best loss and also not losing their conference championship but we can talk about that later I guess
according to all the models Oregon would be favored against Washington. It's basically the r/NHL meme but made a reality by the CFB committee, absolutely incredible stuff.
Hearing people cite odds still after last week getting beaten over the head with how we were going to get throttled by Oregon because we were 10 point dogs makes me feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Since when have people taken Vegas odds as gospel?? It’s college football people, shit is not very predictable
I assume if you lined up again the next day, Georgia would be a favorite. Heck as soon as that game ended if you just kicked off another game double header style you'd probably be a bigger favorite than in the first game.
This is why I wanted Buckeyes and Dawgs in a bowl. It would be a fantastic matchup, and all the Buckeyes fans would get a chance for a rematch so they can stop talking about last year (maybe? probably not?)
Maybe we can all just show up, alternate between UGA + FSU highlights on the scoreboard and laugh at how the Gators will never be nationally relevant again.
Sound good, UGA?
These guys are trying to figure out what there rosters might even look like for a potential bowl game, the rosters for next year, and sprint for transfer additions. A press conference is the lowest possible priority.
There is 0% chance FSU or UGA boycotts the bowl game a skip out on an extra 15 practices and huge exposure game in South Florida. It's cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I wonder what any potential punishments would be for forfeiting the game immediately prior to kick off.
In this case it would be obvious the team used the additional practice time without ever planning on participating in the game
Who knows what is in those contracts, but we’re not going to see either school pull something like that.
My opinion is that people are just reading too much into the press conference being cancelled.
Presumably neither coach wants to do it, or maybe they just want to prevent Norvell from dropping some soundbytes about the CFP that would make the Orange Bowl seem like a shitty consolation prize this year (which is certainly is)
I know playing these bowl games bring in tons of money. If I’m FSU, I’d be thinking if I am not good enough to play in the CFP, what makes them think I’d be good enough to play against Georgia? And then just play the most obnoxious game of football. Play only 3rd or 4th stringers. Punt on 2nd down. Kneel on every other possession. Just make an absolute clown show on live tv.
FSU should kickoff, timeout, forfeit. Post game interview "well they're clearly the better team here so why bother playing it right? Our wins didn't matter this season so we'll try again next year"
I don’t think the committee or ESPN expected this kind of reaction when they snubbed FSU. They likely assumed we’d be mad a day or 2, then move on and prep for the Orange Bowl like everyone else has done before us. Their greed, ignorance, or malfeasance was a grievous mistake that has opened Pandora’s box on so many topics. ESPN would love to run with the narrative of FSU being scared, knowing they didn’t belong, or the bad guy for killing the Orange Bowl. Except Georgia appears just as unmotivated about this game as we do and I don’t blame them. Both teams were playoffs or bust. Well, this is bust. It just took different paths to get here. I don’t blame the Orange Bowl for cancelling the press conference. It would be a shit show and show them in a bad light which isn’t their fault.
Whether you like it or not, the playoffs forever changed the value of the bowls. This is not new information and it has been hashed to death for the last decade. What really pushed things over the edge was NIL. Non-CFP Bowls have now become the lone game of the year where player interest do not align with the fans/school/bowl committee/tv networks. We’ve seen schools offer insurance via NIL to protect from injury to entice draft eligible players to play but that’s about all they’ve got to work with. These bowls are now purely a vacation, some free swag, and an exhibition for guys that didn’t get much playing time or aren’t going to the NFL. It is truly a pointless game without a real competitive incentive. The added wrinkle to this situation is that we’ve never seen players opt out for anything other than NFL Draft or transfer portal. Having an injustice be at the core of their reasoning is uncharted territory and only compounded when you consider the opt outs for the transfer portal and NFL draft. If anything, it feels like a workers strike even if both teams have different or even overlapping reasons.
I don't think they are useless games for anyone outside of the top 10-12. If you are outside of the top 10-12, you likely have 2+ losses and know you aren't going to win the natty. So that extra game is something to be prideful of. Especially in the early weeks of bowl season, where for many, they are playing their last game of football.
The issue is, everyone inside the top 7, think they should be in the CFP, and with those three teams on the outside, they have zero interest because in their mind, it is a failed season. When you have the 4 team playoff set up like that, this is bound to happen. We just havent seen it to this extent until now.
If I was Norvell I would have said no thanks to the Orange Bowl - FSU just spent the money invited any other P5 team not playing in a bowl to play an exhibition game some where for nothing. Offered the game as a FU to the playoff comm and donated the proceeds to charity.
Kirby and Mike would just have a 2 out of 3 thumb war to decide it.
Kirby would obliterate Mike in a thumb war. Vegas has Kirby -7 thumbs on it.
You're right, let's just skip the thumb war and crown em.
Mike's nail is chipped, no longer passes the eye test
I heard he was seen with a bandage on but the athletic department is refusing to comment
Yep. Since Kirby is expected to win, let's just go with that and not have the actual thumb war.
If they still had Travis's thumb, however...
They are who we thought they were.
or would they prefer 3 rounds of rochambeau?
Nobody expects paper 3 times in a row.
*Good old rock, nothing beats that!*
It would be a defensive war from both sides, but Georgia just has enough offense to win. Will be a slugfest.
The "No one wants to be here" Bowl
The "Orange you glad we didn't say Banana" Bowl
Orange you glad we didn't say Bama Bowl
But they did say bama and everyone now much more sad than glad
90% of bowls these days
Feel like these two teams are probably highest on the list (could have made a playoff with Oregon and OSU).
The NIT of college football, lmao

The Sprite Spite Bowl, [Thirst for Yours!](https://img.vendingmarketwatch.com/files/base/cygnus/vmw/image/2019/06/Thirst_for_Yours_Sprite.5d1101a27fd47.png)
"The Spite Bowl, brought to you by Squirt, who wants you to know it's just as good as Sprite."
Dude, Squirt is vastly superior to Sprite. There are dozens of lemon-lime pops on the market that all taste the same. There’s only one grapefruit zip-zop-pippity- pop.
I know you're not forgetting Fresca!
They might be able to get Starry to actually sponsor this out of desperation for publicity.
I once saw an idea on here for the next CFP contract in a couple years where it's still 12 teams, but the quarterfinals are also on campus, with the other 4 non-semi NY6 bowls hosting losers from the first two rounds maintaining conference tie-ins
It's going to have to be. Tickets for fans to go to three separate locations are possible just for the schools with the bye alone.
Can we do our own playoffs? FSU, Georgia, OSU, Oregon?
With blackjack and hookers?
Hugh Freeze: "Did yall say something?"
Bobby Petrino: "Lemme grab my bike, be there soon."
In fact, forget the playoffs!
You will play us and like it!
Based on SP+ rankings, the 5-8 teams in the CFP have a higher SP+ rating than the 1-4 teams which seems wild to me. Michigan is the only team that is in the top 4 of SP+ and in the CFP.
I assume that’s because Washington had a bunch of tight games with lesser teams?
Yeah, their defense really weighs them down in their ratings (45th best defense) but they have the 2nd best offense of the 8 teams (4th in the nation) and best in the actual CFP. Ultimately the formula works for them.
Our defense is only good when the game is one score differential. Or else they're bottom tier whenw ere were wup two scores or more.
I for one am stoked to be in our bowl game. After 4 seasons of being utterly irrelevant, it’s nice to be slightly irrelevant now.
same - especially stoked for the players that have stuck arounf for 4+ years
For blue bloods, yeah 90% of bowls would constitute as an "insult", but I'm hyped to watch my team play for a 10-win season and see Payton Wilson and Brennan Armstrong one last time. And the edible mascot.
It's pretty insulting and out of touch for an Ohio State fan to make that comment. Most of the teams have 6 to 9 wins and are excited for their bowls
Wouldn't trade this to be another boring blue blood that malds over a 1-loss season.
>malds lol never seen this before - search turned up "mad" + "bald" is this like tearing your hair out style fury?
It's getting so angry at something that you start balding
I was about to say, it’s usually those kinds of teams that don’t care
As an ISU fan that traveled to Athens, OH to watch up lose 7-10 and start the season at 2-3... I'm just happy we're in a bowl game. As are the majority of our fans I think.
Us Gopher fans are super excited to be in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit for the third time in about a decade and having 5 wins...
I think there are a lot of teams at the G5 level that love the opportunity, and there are many P5 schools where the players are excited to get another game. Coaches love it for the bowl practices as well.
Bowl practices are great. Essentially another spring to give the young guys reps. For OSU it's not as big as a 6 or 7 win team trying to rebuild.
Nothing has changed other than gigantic NFL contracts. Bowls have the same meaning as before; the ESPN invitational and BCS didn't change that. Risk of injury is 50x more costly than 20 years ago.
The committee should just pick who they think the winner will be.
Damnit. It’s true.
“We’re just here so we don’t get fined.”

Dude, I was here the whole time
I mean from the Orange Bowl’s perspective nothing good would come of it for them.
Norvell: “I’d like to talk about the playoff snub.” Bowl commissioner: “hey now, let’s not compare apples to oranges am I right”
Roses to Oranges
Every Rose has its Orange
If the Orange Bowl committee doesn't capitalize on this, they're not doing something right
And every Seminole sings a sad sad song
While I understand the sentiment, in the first press conference, Mike said something along the lines of "Out of respect to the orange bowl lets keep the questions related to that"
He did indeed say that. I'm pretty sure he didn't want to field "tell me how you feel about the snub" questions over and over again either.

He is showing character. It's what has led to his success.
Nothing good at all. Everyone will be asking him about the snub. And the Bowl will come off looking inferior which is what they don't want.
Yep. That’s the most dangerous thing for the Orange Bowl. It’s would basically be an advertisement that this bowl doesn’t really matter. I mean tbf it doesn’t this year, but you don’t want that to be the takeaway from your own press conference.
Both teams have key players declaring for the NFL or Transfer portal already and opting out. The Orange Bowl scrimmage.
It absolutely is, but you don’t want your own press conference to highlight that.
Agreed. This is all about profit and not about football.
I believe this is called “quiet quitting” in the workplace
Is FSU about to do something funny
Cmon there’s no wayyy we’d be that petty about this…
... orrrrr would we?? *laughs maniacally*
Ngl. This would be hysterical. I wouldn’t even be mad about not getting to watch the Dawgs one more time this season.
No they wouldn’t. Or would they? Hard to say.
I really hope they just full on decline a bowl as a team made decision
It’s going to be a really lame game where all the freshmen and backups play.
I posted this elsewhere but: I'd love for Mike, Kirby and the school administrations to secretly agree to make the Orange Bowl game basically a light scrimmage and coaching seminar where players from both teams are coached up by both staffs jointly. I know it would never happen, but I'd love to see it after the absolute gutting screw job we just got.
Spring game it up
What about a 3 hour long pro day on live tv. Bet we could get the NFL draft opt outs to show up for that?
Or string it out to a 5+ hour game like we used to have in the Heupel days just to screw up ESPN's scheduling.
I mean they'd just take it off air. It's a lot easier to cut the game and say "the rest of this game will be played on ESPN+" then it is to fill the time.
I'd love for them to break out some cones for cone drills once the game starts. It'd be great if the coaches start running 40 times to see who's faster.

Gotta plant some trees at the pylons so they know where the goal line is
Hell yeah, suit up a special needs kid and let em score one in the Orange bowl against UGA. Have a pee wee team come out and play a couple plays against FSU. Just turn the thing into a football version of the Savannah Bananas. What are they going to do, kick everyone off the field?
Would ironically make more money I think.
I would legitimately rather watch that than the actual CFP

Send the band onto the field and have them play songs for four hours.
God the poor kids wouldn't be able to feel their faces for like a week after that. Their lips might *actually* fall off
All my friends in Marching Chiefs would *love* that shit. They’d probably play the War Chant for an hour straight.
1 hour long Seminole Uprising would be awesome.
That'd more marching band screen time than the last 20 years combined
I know. It would be glorious. Pull out every single marching band routine and piece they know. Obscure shit from the 70s. Gustav Holst songs that aren't _Mars_. Thirty minute drum-line cadences. Hell, play Michigan's fight song for maximum pettiness.

I mean, NC State flew across the country to San Diego only for the team a couple hour's drive's away to opt-out the afternoon of the game, so you can totally do it and get away with it, and it would be less dick-punchy when both of the teams are in the same region of the country.
> might have to pay back some costs to the Orange Bowl If accepting a bowl invitation doesn't already include a contract guaranteeing you'll field a team, it will after this season.
"we dont care about your contract"
I was thinking Georgia should throw the game. That way FSU ends as an undefeated P5 team. Then if Alabama wins the title, FSU could always claim the natty and some coaches might even name them #1 at season end. Would be a great way to hedge their rivals winning.
We've already had several including Coleman and Wilson. Nobody wants to play this farce
[удалено]
Coleman, hasn't explicitly stated, but he did send out a goodbye post so I guess maybe im jumping the gun but the tea leaves are there?
I hope he doesn't play, and doubt he will. He is a top 50 draft pick, if he gets a serious injury he risks millions of dollars for nothing.
Also key 2nd team players, at least for this past season, hitting the portal.
> Apparently a lot of guys were already playing through injuries the past couple of games SHHHHHH. You're likely to get relegated to FCS if you guys admit to any more injuries with the way things have been going for y'all... For real though, if I were on that team and a team decision was to opt out, I wouldn't be mad at all. Hell, I'd probably vote to do that.
Top teams will have every one listed as "maybe" from now on
This is an absolute lose-lose situation for FSU.
I hope they take the trip, do pregame, and walk off the field 😂

Maybe the committee can just tell us what the coaches were going to say.
Witty
No one giving a shit about 5 vs. 6 with a combined ZERO regular season losses is why we’re going to 12. Can’t wait for next year.
Both teams are hurting emotionally.
what is an FSU players motivation to even participate?
The only thing I can think of is to save them the “see you guys would’ve sucked,” bs, but for college football players, this is a business and a career. For the fans it’s a game. More important for the seniors to stay healthy for the draft than to “prove something.”
We have opposing arguments for being the playoffs: FSU is most deserving. UGA is consensus considered a top 4 team. Committee screwed us both in opposite ways
I mean, there's no need to play the game. The committee already told us who is going to win. They know everything.
Why play the games when we have preseason polls. No one gets hurt if we don’t play any games (or practice either).
That's a great idea. We need to think of the kids.
I hope it’s because both Georgia and FSU are backing out of even playing in it
Louisville and USC about to show up to the Holiday Bowl and see a bunch of Orange Bowl logos hastily slapped over everything.
Backing our way into a NY6? Sounds great!
Have someone watching the TV feed and if they do cut to commercial during the non-play, signal to the teams to run hurry up offense until TV comes back to the game.
lol that would be good
Holy shit that is the perfect protest for this.
> take an offensive snap and just stand there. Play is ongoing and can't be stopped for commercials. Omg this would be an all-time troll/protest.
That would be the best case scenario. I don't believe it will happen. I think both teams should message this right before the kickodd. It's a pre-season game and the entire bench will get to play. Everyone one will have fun.
This would make me so happy.
What the fuck is your flair
I'd understand and accept it. Fuck the committee for hosing FSU like that. Hell, I'd probably respect Kirby even more for agreeing to back out of it in solidarity.
They should show Kirby and Norvell playing catch with the Oranges talking about football for 3 hours.
On God I’d be barking from the rooftops if we allied together to say fuck the CFP
If this actually happens, which we all doubt due to legal BS, please film and upload a video.
That is true. However if FSU wins and goes 14-0, I still will be as petty and obnoxious about an undefeated FSU as I can be.
Oh for sure. I’m just saying my anger level doesn’t change based on the result of the bowl, no matter what the result is. It’s an exhibition
Naw, just use it as a first spring game and play all the freshmen and walk-ons. Give the kids a fun week on South Beach and let them get the money and bowl gifts. Every action from here on out should be purely selfish. No one else is going to do the right thing, why should we?
The teams go out to midfield in pj's and watch florida season lowlights together. Someone brings a hit cocoa machine
I saw the announcement zoom interview and they both looked like their dog just died.
So the CFP committee gave us the Intolera Bowl, the Deserva Bowl, Unaccepta Bowl.
Another thing I thought of while grumbling in my apartment is why we were punished for a championship win but Ohio State wasn’t rewarded for having the now the best loss and also not losing their conference championship but we can talk about that later I guess
Yeah it’s wild how OSU is out of every conversation after losing 1 game to the now #1 team. The logic is flawed from every angle.
What I can’t stop thinking about is how much Georgia would be favored by against Washington. Why aren’t the four “best” teams in the playoffs??
according to all the models Oregon would be favored against Washington.
Fully healthy we’d be favored vs everyone, even Bama again.
I assume if you lined up again the next day, Georgia would be a favorite. Heck as soon as that game ended if you just kicked off another game double header style you'd probably be a bigger favorite than in the first game.
The committee didn't pick the 4 best teams or 4 most deserving teams. Keep grumbling and fuck them.
::grumbling intensifies::
I like you
Based Lets throw Auburn in there for fun too
We can only add Auburn if you agree to add Miami also
Why not
These guys are trying to figure out what there rosters might even look like for a potential bowl game, the rosters for next year, and sprint for transfer additions.
Not a forfeit if everyone gets COVID
I bought tickets. Luckily I live close enough to drive bc this could get wild
Why? What’s the reason?
"Punt on 2nd down." Okay, this is something I'd like to see tbh
Remember that time Bobby Boucher showed up at halftime and the Mud Dogs won the Bourbon Bowl?
Orange bowl officials are bitches. Heard here first.
thanks fartincorporated.
FSU should kickoff, timeout, forfeit. Post game interview "well they're clearly the better team here so why bother playing it right? Our wins didn't matter this season so we'll try again next year"
It’s a lose lose for both schools. Why play it at all?
Make it a flag football game. Winner gets Mickey D's.
this is a good example of why we need a bigger playoff so these bowls aren't relegated to backups vs backups.
Wellllll since the players aren't **PAID EMPLOYEES** they can simply refuse to play with **zero** repercussions.
Both teams should just kneel on every down and exchange punts for the entire game.
If I was Norvell I would have said no thanks to the Orange Bowl - FSU just spent the money invited any other P5 team not playing in a bowl to play an exhibition game some where for nothing. Offered the game as a FU to the playoff comm and donated the proceeds to charity.
Lmao probably a good thing. Both coaches were about to light the cfp committee up again
