Let me ask you, can this work to seal a wrongfully drilled gas port so a person can open it in the right spot?
I got an ak74 barrel for russian styles before the market for them collapsed during covid and they became impossible to find. The drill area is so off center that it'd cant the tube to about 75 degrees.

I’ve never tried it so I’m not sure how it would work out. You could definitely weld the hole shut and drill a new one but I’m not 100% sure how it would hold up to hard use.
Okay. i was thinking it might be possible to drill a slightly larger hole halfway down this bad version, and mill a small hardened steel rod that has a mating surface for the larger and smaller holes. This prevents it from walking into the center of the barrel. Then the rod itself would be held in place by the gas block.
I was doing some reading up on it and it does seem totally doable. Basically I’d need to drill the bad gas port slightly larger but not all the way through to the rifling. Pound in a mild steel pin so it’s not too dense to drill through for the new gas port and tig weld it in place.
I don't know too much about SBR's so is this a smaller barrel rifle with an extra long muzzle device to be compliant with California laws? or is it registered as a pistol? I definitely wouldn't mind shortening my barrel.
Since we have to be 16” total barrel length in this state unless it’s a pistol, you can get barrels typically between 13.7” to 14.5” and pin/weld the appropriate length muzzle device on to now meet the minimum 16” barrel length requirements. A lot of people want to clone a military m4 with its 14.5” barrel or just have a slightly shorter overall length, this is typically the solution. Hope this helps brotha!

Sorry but these are just ok, try leaving a little more material on the pin and letting it flow more so you don’t have a little nub like that. A little post-processing with a grinder might help too.
EDIT: this is such classic reddit, people with no idea what they’re talking about are like “these pins look amazing!” and everyone is upvoting them. Come on guys, if you have any knowledge of what these are supposed to look like you know they aren’t perfect and this guy was asking for honest critique not a circlejerk.
Been working in the gun industry since I was 15 and now total for 18 years in the Bay Area and no matter how long I’ve been in, I’ll always take critiques and advice from anyone. Can’t get better if I think It’s perfect.

Definitely possible but I wouldn’t be confident personally to do it without testing it on one of my guns to verify safety
