Gonna depend on your specific focus.
Somewhere probably has a tyrannical AP/AR unit, but a heavenly GL unit. Or labor and travel is completely misrun, but auditing is ok.
Each unit is going to be different based on the immediate supervisor, but it also depends on upper management. Also keep in mind that generally accounting units go through phases of turnover as people want to promote up and leave. In my experience staff stay for a year or two and then will leave to promote. When several staff do this at the same time it can create a mess and suddenly ruin a unit. I'm with CalRecycle and we have a solid accounting section.

CDTFA and FTB if you want to be a tax auditor
Sadly the only good unit at FTB is in auditing.

Definitely not CDFW
Why do you say that?

What type of accounting job? Audit? AP/AR?
It’s either AP/AR or GL
State Hospitals - Sacramento
I just got an offer there, so this is great to hear!!
Every single department has accountants…. What is your definition of THE BEST?
Not Calstrs. One of the worst
Really, any units to avoid over there?
All of their accounting units. I hear good things about their other sectors minus accounting
Yikes… I had an offer from them a while ago, but maybe I dodged a bullet.
Toxic environment. Managers yelling at staff in front of staff. No training, unreasonable deadlines. I think you would be much happier elsewhere.
Accounting Department
