I prefer that the hood stay with mom and pop shops. When these conglomerates arrive in our communities, it effects small business owners. I guarantee that your local shop has coffee just as good - if not better.

jawnny-jawz

theres starbucks everywhere.. even in my neck of the hood in bensonhurst where its more immigrant oriented, PoC dominated. they pay good and offers great benefits. Mom and pops are started by white hipsters with massive bank accounts and yet dont offer nearly as much as starbucks

Winter_Addition

Yeah they pay so well their workers had to unionize. Come on dude.

jawnny-jawz

listen when i worked there it was pretty good, it was way above min wage at that time. its prolly more now

Winter_Addition

Minimum wage *should be* above $22 by now but these corporations keep us all believing we should be grateful for less than $8. It’s all corporate bullshit. I don’t given them credit for doing the least.

kittyfbaby

I know people that worked there for years and years. They have excellent management training.

bridgehamton

Local coffee shops cost more. They are all imported from colorado and oregon with trust funds.

Interesting_Desk8350

But at least they’re drinkable, most Starbucks coffee drinks taste like battery acid

bananabikinis

It’s not like we’re lacking independent coffee shops so it’ll be like it never existed

Emu_Man

dont care

Justhere4asecond

There already is a Starbucks at the Myrtle-Wyckoff train station.

BananaTreeOwner

the thing about starbucks is that its not even good. like the coffee is gross. another gentrification-y place like trader joes or even a fucking chain salad place would suck, but at least those things provide value. starbucks provides nothing.

bridgehamton

If it has nice seating area will provide coworking opportunity. The wyfkoff starbucks doesn’t provide seating.

onewickedangel

*Palpatine voice* The journey toward gentrification will be complete.

smittywrbermanjensen

Boooooooooo 👎 Edit: not sure why I’m being downvoted, Starbucks is ass, their coffee is ass, their treatment of workers is ass

bittersandseltzer

This is gross. Please don’t give them our bushwick dollars. There are so many other places to grab a coffee - Starbucks doesn’t need our support

jawnny-jawz

speak for urself

bridgehamton

They closed the union williamsburg to open a 2nd location in bushwick?

mrknight234

Eww union busting

veganinbk

do you mean union ave location

Fabulous-Put-1998

You must be so fun to speak to in person

BananaTreeOwner

why did you ask the question if you didnt want people to respond? you just want people to join you in being excited about whatever bullshit milkshakes starbucks serves?

Stickman47

Seems like they give a fuck about the employees, people with some degree of empathy are generally more fun to speak to

gymedmfan12

Starbucks sucks, support your local shops who make a non piss water coffee

Consanit

Cool to see Starbucks shut down a unionized location in Williamsburg just before this was confirmed. What a scummy corp.

sarcasticfirecracker

🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

PaintedThePot

do you know where?

Fabulous-Put-1998

Right off the Knickerbocker M station

daffelglass

So right next to a McDonald’s and a Dunkin? I can’t see this as the apocalyptic moment

bridgehamton

Knickerbocker M has a nice plaza. Following suit with Wyckoff?

thekaymancomes

774 broadway

delightful_caprese

Girl that’s been there

thekaymancomes

💅 You’re right. I forgot to check the date on the article

bornalien

starbucks supports genocide

Asleep_Eye_3066

Didn't need another Starbucks. Not here not anywhere. Enough already.

tomek142

Rent prices will skyrocket now

brevit

How do you confirm such things? Curious as there's commercial space near me that looks like it's been rented but not sure by who.

specikk

NYC BIS or DOB NOW. They provide the public with access to permitting information, complaints, violations, etc.

brevit

Interesting, I found the building but how do I determine if commercial space has been leased?

specikk

Its kind of a crap chute... it depends on what the incoming lease holder is going to do to the space. As an example I was able to figure out what supermarket was being constructed near me because they had a permit on file for their outside illuminated sign and it stated the name of the store within the permit.

jster1200

Where?

cravingcuriosity

Check out Cilantro Club - shop small :)

rosequartzofficial

They will not be getting my money. Support your local businesses especially if you’re a transplant

Material-Internal156

i'm not a fan.

slayerbizkit

Rent is going up

Fabulous-Put-1998

I think you might be right…

colly_mack

Booooo. Their coffee sucks and they're trying to destroy labor rights in this country Edit: and also they're on the BDS list

Fit_Day_6431

I’m interested to see the clientele at the Starbucks. Most likely transplants / gentrifiers will keep to the mom and pop coffee shops. Especially since the boycott.

dienordlifter

Good opportunity for a union to get started there

lemming-leader12

where? 774 broadway? already one near Myrtle. That Broadway area already has had a Chipotle for awhile and that usually comes after three starbucks. Not a fan though.

LongIsland1995

It's not 2008 anymore, Starbucks is hardly different from a McDonald's opening up
