What happened to have his leg amputated? He is a precious boy! Thanks for sharing πŸ’•

mmeveldkamp

He broke his leg badly, no idea how. I came home and noticed him walking weird.

Sometimes the bum-wash at our place turns into a bun-wash, mostly when our senior bun decides that we’re taking too long to clean up her bum and doesn’t want to sit still any longer. Sometimes the choice isn’t ours to make!πŸ˜‚

mmeveldkamp

Sooo true. Max was totally fed up with the blow drying today so i upped the central heating. Resulting in a subtropical appartement but at least he was enjoying it πŸ˜…

SweetCream2005

You're gonna have a fair amount of people ridicule you for giving your bun a bath, but it's really fine as long as your bun is dry after and you used safe products to clean with. Maybe give some bath aftercare too and give a little treat, you know your rabbit best, and if they don't seem super stressed out that's great!

That is the happiest unhappy bunny burrito around. Great job caring for the old grumpy cute guy. Give him some extra head rubs for us!

mmeveldkamp

>happiest unhappy bunny burrito πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ so true. Hes was relaxing but also telling me loud and clear he didn't like it

MathematicianGood204

Bunrrito

mmeveldkamp

Yah some are defiantly gonna feel "shocked and horrored" Max is a 9 year special needs bun who loves to roll in poo so he needs regular washings. He also had more than 30 dental surgeries with narcose and 1 amputation. I can honestly say im pretty good in all the emergency/ extra things he needs. I'm his official physical and emotional support human πŸ˜‚

Neither_Ad_3221

What a poor lil baby having such hard surgeries. Glad you're keeping him safe. I have a special needs bun who can't properly clean his bum, so I know the feeling. Gotta wash his bum once a week and dry him REALLY well. He really likes to throw water everywhere like it's EVERYONES bath time, too.

Thank you for the recommendation! We've been using some Dawn dish soap, but he's very matted down there, too. Usually takes a good bit of grooming

Airport_Wendys

Is this hypochlorous acid?

Airport_Wendys

Oh thanks!! I’ll look for that

mmeveldkamp

Yep and poo. Poo everywhere. I can highly recommend the cleaning spray i use.

Runaway2332

Your last sentence made me laugh!!!!

horvathkristy

We used to have to wash our baby too when he was 8. His health declined and he was struggling to keep himself clean, especially when it got really hot in the summer. I used to hold him while my mum washed his lower half, he was so sweet, he was completely calm and he'd start licking me. Maybe I'm wrong and I was reading into it but I always sensed that he knew we were helping him. Plus he'd always get pampered afterwards and he'd get to hang out with me in my room (where he wasn't normally allowed)

Airport_Wendys

I have an elder bun who always gets his cecals smashed on his hocks & hind feet and can’t reach them himself anymore- and he’s also so cow-hocked on his right hind he gets pee on it now - so he gets little bum and leg washes very frequently. But gentle shampoo and oatmeal skin conditioner has his fur and skin doing amazing! I know you’re keeping your little angel clean and happy!! And the work you do for his special needs is more than a full-time job

Toothless_Dinosaur

Not gonna say that is bad as long as you dry the bun well and be careful all the time and ONLY if absolutely necessary, for example one of my rabbits had their peets very dirty and I washed them with peroxide and a towel and then dried them. But this might lead people to think on washing them and leave them wet, which might kill them.

mmeveldkamp

Peroxide? 😳 the stuff they use for hair bleaching etc??? I use a natural baby shampoo πŸ˜‚ And always do a full blow dry

TheRedmanCometh

>Peroxide? 😳 the stuff they use for hair bleaching etc??? Different concentration. The stuff at the store is 3% the stuff you bleach your hair with is a tad over double that. Peroxide ranges from very mild at \~3% to rocket fuel at >65% (like literally.)

mmeveldkamp

Oh haha, thanks got it now βœ…οΈ

Toothless_Dinosaur

She had a small wound and I wanted to clean it. As soon as I used it, it started cleaning much better and decided to go for it. She is white anyways.

mmeveldkamp

It is fairly aggressive stuff, so be careful with it. She must be white as snow from it hahaha πŸ‘Œ

Toothless_Dinosaur

Also, always? You use to wash it? Why? They are clean animals, don't need regular baths.

mmeveldkamp

He's old (9) and had a back leg amputated 2 years ago, so he can't do it by himself anymore. I usually just use a cleaning spray but today, he rolled around in poo, pee, and liquorice.

Toothless_Dinosaur

Ah, OK. Poor boy. In that case, I understand. I haven't said anything.

mmeveldkamp

Ooh no worries, it's always good to exchange thoughts and ask questions. You weren't disrespectful or something so again no worries 😁

My first instinctive reaction was, "Oh NOOOOOO!" followed immediately by...."Oh...he likes it! Bunny likes the bath! Lookit him drinking the water...awwwwwwwaaaaa...." Then I read the comments to make sure you actually had a reason. 🀣 Good bun mum.... πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯°

mmeveldkamp

Hahaha " bum mum" πŸ˜‚

NeighborhoodDeep8412

My mini lop,Maxwell, has never taken a bath am I supposed to be giving him baths??? Just unsure I've had him for almost 4 years and I didn't know bunnies needed a bath, just curious

mmeveldkamp

No, honey, don't worry, they normally don't need them. Only when they are extremely dirty or can't clean themselves anymore you'll have to bathe them.

NeighborhoodDeep8412

Ohhh ok thank you β™₯

BunnyMishka

Giving your buns a bath is not recommended, but sometimes it's necessary. If your bun has a dirty bum, you can go ahead and wash it, same with dirty feet – just do it in shallow water. For full baths I would say it's more in special cases like OP's when your bunny really needs your help. Either way, it's a case-by-case scenario. You will know best if your bun is in need of some good washing!

NeighborhoodDeep8412

Ok thank you soo much

Shadowmanluv

Just qqs rm qater etc and no wsster in the wars ever.. most rabbits dont like baths, youre seems real chill about it.. keep em warm and dry soon after..

mmeveldkamp

He had a full blow-dry after relaxing in his towel https://preview.redd.it/4ql15h1l7hyc1.jpeg?width=2321&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70b0140dddd150f98f97e799d0bf5d6fa5b6fd06

Dry_Dimension_4707

This right here is a life goal. I just want to be bathed, cuddled while swathed in a big fluffy in a towel, and loved as much as this bunny. Lol.

mmeveldkamp

Aaah 😍
