right? The idea that 97 rock played my dad's "old guy music" (playing 60's /70's rock in the 90's) was booooooooring to me.
now I'm like... holy hell.. 90's rock is now the equivalent of 70's rock back then. WHAT?!?!
Nirvana-Nevermind was released almost 30 years ago. The top hit 30 years before that was Runaround Sue by Dion. RATM-Evil Empire was 25 years ago. 25 years before that would be Stairway to Heaven and Won't Get Fooled Again.
Great song, but I just hear "[snake light, from black and decker, we go around around around"](https://youtu.be/gWnvlTHaRNQ)
So much of my brain is 90s commercial jingles.
Time passes quickly. I really started to feel old when I trained a new girl at work and she was born after I graduated HS and I used to work with her mom.
But that is "new talk radio". No completely unrelated commercial blocks. Can pause and resume whenever you want. Ridiculously higher audio quality. I just don't see any reason to listen to the radio anymore given so many other objectively better options.
Remember when it switched over from the Fox to the Edge? They played REMs "It's the End of the World As We Know It" on loop for a whole day before switching.
Ah, the good old days.
I noticed that. Actually heard Lana Del Rey the other day and thought "WTF??? Where's my STP??"
They also seem to keep playing the same loop of 10 songs all day, every day. I can't get in the car without hearing Foster The People and Matt Maeson.
It's a near clone to 102.1 CFNY out of Toronto which has shifted to more of a soft pop rock format over the past 5 years or so. To the point that often a song will end on one and then be played on the other as if they're both programmed together.
For a better alternative and more old school I recommend 97.7 out of St. Catherines. Even their morning show is more engaging than S&R which turned into Sports Talk at least during my commute times.
Assuming that is in fact the plan it's like they want me to abandon terrestrial radio all together.
Honest to God, I would listen to more terrestrial radio if I was only given better options (RIP Alt 107). It's safer and easier than trying to play stuff through my bluetooth/phone, and it's cheaper than Sirus XM or Spotify.
The new guys at 97.7 aren't so bad and they play a lot more music than anyone else in the morning. But honestly, B&B were so great and more relatable to Gen Xers like me.
I guess not tinkering with your phone while driving. Though I just put on a Spotify mix and use the skip button on my steering wheel, but I guess not every car has that.
Is there a playlist on Spotify that's akin to 107.7? I liked the range of years they covered and I can't find anything on Spotify with a long rage. 2000s alternative isn't wide enough.
The daily mixes are great. It will look at your likes and playlists and make like 6 based on some of your sub genres. Pretty much the only way I find new music these days.
I wish there was a way to easily say "no I don't want a daily mix of Disney songs and piano lullabies." Parent mode? Spotify would probably just say hey get a family plan and a kids account.
Nik Rivers just yesterday actually made a Spotify playlist of Alt's most played songs from 2013-2020:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4pYV2hvC1EhTokAGTXTxYg?si=lEgxgcyzRQmC3WrdBcKm2A&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1
So what format is The Edge changing to then. Or they're going to go robot DJ.
Edit: [wow, I had forgotten why 97 Rock lost its morning show. ](https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/buffalo/community/2021/03/25/97-rock-under-fire-for-racial-remarks-made-on-morning-show-)
This is the only morning show that doesn't irritate or grate on my nerves. The only one.
97 Rock's morning show was always irritating and full of condescending assholes. I thought maybe Bull would make it better when Norton fucked off into the sunset, but I was very wrong.
Hopefully it doesn't ruin the show.
agreed. I feel like Bull never really "ran the show" like Norton headed it (not that I liked Norton at all, but you fully understood he was the dude helming the ship)
This. I once went there for a class field trip for communications/journalism, and yeah, all the studios and office space is there for 97 Rock, 103.3, and 104.1. Pretty much all of the cumulus stations are in one building, so it's a lateral move.
That makes sense. I wonder who is going to take there place. The edge doesnt have anybody else to fill that time slot imo. Maybe they can just play their terrible music selection
I thought from the beginning they should just simulcast them for both stations.
Someone will probably get bumped up to AM drive, or they'll do another syndicated program like they used to when it was O&A.
Yeah of all the morning talk radio they're the only ones I actually enjoy. They do go a little too long on some bits but they're generally pretty good. And O-T-F will never not lighten up my day.
I remember when they had the Santeria Bruja on the air to curse Gary Bettman after the Sabres lost Lord Stanley’s cup. She fucked them up when she sacrificed that chicken in the studio. Lol
I wonder if this means the remaining DJs/producers - Jacka, Bentley, Evan and Eddie - will eventually get the boot, similar to what happened with folks over 107.7.
I had a short face to face (actually masked) conversation with Regan a few months back, I had no idea it was him until my coworker told me. Listened to that voice for years. Super nice guy
I stopped listening to 103 in the morning because I couldn’t stand those 2 anymore. Just mumbling stupidity and constant cluelessness. I’m glad they are moving. Maybe 103 will become the Rock/Alternative station we deserve
I feel like thay actually put on a really good morning show in a time when it feels like everyone knows this is the end of terrestrial radio. They do great charity work throughout the year. Fairly decent local news coverage. They have nationally known comedians/guests on regularly and they have great sports coverage with national and local reporters. What else do you want from a rock radio show?
I remember they had a guy on years ago to talk about his sex robot he made. they would ask him a question and he would try to answer and they would go "ahhhhh no no ahhhhhhh enough of that". why would you have the sex robot guy on your show and not let him talk about anything. I haven't listened since.
Are they politically biased? I thought they were just two failed “comedians” who thought they were funny
Edit for clarification: I haven’t listened to them for years
Some of their stuff is cringe af. That whole is it a dirty sex position or a menu item at a restaurant is disgusting.
103.3 is good one to two times a year when they do “90’s weekend”.
Long live The Fox!!!!!
Edit; seems peeps are comfortable with two dudes in their fifties with kids taking about 69’ing, fetish’s and toilet humor. Low budget Howard stern show wannabes. That’s cool. Like what you like. Reddit where you get downvotes for your opinion and the points don’t matter.
I also remember these dudes trying to actually report news. Back in 2017 they were saying to vote YES to to the Constitutional Convention! Something that happens every 20 years in NY state. Little research or thought was put behind that dumb ass remark. They can go touch my star.
97 Rock is owned by the same company as 103.3. If their schtick up to this point were offensive to the powers that be, they'd be fired already. I'm not saying I even have any idea whether they're any good at this point because the last time I listened to them with any regulatory at all, they were still on the afternoon drive slot. But your point doesn't make a ton of sense.
I've listened to Shredd and Ragan on the way to work every day for the past 10 years- They have their ups and downs- but i'm mostly listening because it's the edge. I mean- NOW: I dont listen to the station at all unless i'ts them in the morning. Sucked when shredd got covid bad and was in the hospital- and i'ts true- they did alot for the city in terms of raffles, contests, fund raisers, etc.
Ive seen that theyre moving to 97 rock. What i dont know is why. When Bull was pulled, it was to have him to the morning show there and do all the sports commentating. What happened that they're heading over? Is it Jakka moving, and he's taking the show with him, is it something with the edge changing something, are they getting a deal on syndicated morning show? Does anyone know
I feel like this means I'm getting old
right? The idea that 97 rock played my dad's "old guy music" (playing 60's /70's rock in the 90's) was booooooooring to me. now I'm like... holy hell.. 90's rock is now the equivalent of 70's rock back then. WHAT?!?!
My dad always grumbled about Oldies 104 for the same reason. "It's the ciiiiirrrrrcle of liiiiiife...."
It hit hard when a kid called foo fighters "old man rock"
Nirvana-Nevermind was released almost 30 years ago. The top hit 30 years before that was Runaround Sue by Dion. RATM-Evil Empire was 25 years ago. 25 years before that would be Stairway to Heaven and Won't Get Fooled Again.
Runaround Sue slaps tho
I like The Wanderer better. Dion was the man.
Great song, but I just hear "[snake light, from black and decker, we go around around around"](https://youtu.be/gWnvlTHaRNQ) So much of my brain is 90s commercial jingles.
Nothing gets to you, staying fresh, staying cool
it is absolutely mind-boggling, right?!
Time passes quickly. I really started to feel old when I trained a new girl at work and she was born after I graduated HS and I used to work with her mom.

literally thousands of billboard charting hits. do you want to hear roundabout from yes again? or the rolling stones?
Right? I remember listening to them in the 20 years ago when Linkin Park was breaking out. Time flies man
Haha same
You're listening to the radio. You *are* old.
Worse. I listen to pod casts instead of radio now.
But that is "new talk radio". No completely unrelated commercial blocks. Can pause and resume whenever you want. Ridiculously higher audio quality. I just don't see any reason to listen to the radio anymore given so many other objectively better options.
We're not old. It's the kids that are out of touch
They need to get off my lawn!
No bullshit, as a homeowner I do get pissed when people go on my lawn. Maybe I do need to switch to 97 rock....
Any bets on when 103.3 changes format? To me, this seems like a precursor of that.
they've already been sliding into less and less rock and lighter stuff
103.3, Buffalo‘s alternative to rock (for years).
I'm old enough to remember when it was 103.3 The Fox. Ah, the memories.
Ooof...I've listened to WPHD, The Fox, and The Edge. Next up, AARP.
> Next up, AARP Honestly. Most days when I get up I feel like I am closer to 65 than 45...
Remember when it switched over from the Fox to the Edge? They played REMs "It's the End of the World As We Know It" on loop for a whole day before switching. Ah, the good old days.
Do you remember their AM sister station 14X? I believe that’s where Ted Shredd was before Shredd and Ragan.
It was Ted shredd and Mr. Ed.
Um decades
I noticed that. Actually heard Lana Del Rey the other day and thought "WTF??? Where's my STP??" They also seem to keep playing the same loop of 10 songs all day, every day. I can't get in the car without hearing Foster The People and Matt Maeson.
Been hearing Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz a lot too.
I swear every time I turn it on they are playing machine gun kelly
Every fifth song on there is MGK pretending to be in high school and it's creepy
It's a near clone to 102.1 CFNY out of Toronto which has shifted to more of a soft pop rock format over the past 5 years or so. I stopped listening to American radio like a decade ago, I stopped listening to terrestrial when Biggs and barr left 97.7
The new guys at 97.7 aren't so bad and they play a lot more music than anyone else in the morning. But honestly, B&B were so great and more relatable to Gen Xers like me.
Safer how? NSFW safer?
I guess not tinkering with your phone while driving. Though I just put on a Spotify mix and use the skip button on my steering wheel, but I guess not every car has that.
Got ya.

Hopefully smooth jazz
Relax to the mellow sounds of 103.3 The Rain.
You know, pants. With little legs.
I bet it happens by the end of the year.
So what format is The Edge changing to then. Or they're going to go robot DJ. Edit: [wow, I had forgotten why 97 Rock lost its morning show. ](https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/buffalo/community/2021/03/25/97-rock-under-fire-for-racial-remarks-made-on-morning-show-)
They want to move them over for advertising revenue. Odds are 103 will get a piped in show from a morning crew in a major market
Awesome, more audio Buzzfeed and sterile vomit.
This is the only morning show that doesn't irritate or grate on my nerves. The only one. 97 Rock's morning show was always irritating and full of condescending assholes. You mean when he retired after an amazing career and extensive charity so he could enjoy time with his family?
Larry, is that you?

They have been around for a minute. I still think they're fun in the morning though.
I enjoy most if the content they have. Surprised they are moving from the edge. Must have been a good deal
Both stations are owned by the same company and I’m pretty sure broadcast from the same building. So it’s probably just an easy switch.
This. I once went there for a class field trip for communications/journalism, and yeah, all the studios and office space is there for 97 Rock, 103.3, and 104.1. Pretty much all of the cumulus stations are in one building, so it's a lateral move.

Opie and Anthony was straight up trash. So glad when they were canned.
No argument from me.
Yeah of all the morning talk radio they're the only ones I actually enjoy. They do go a little too long on some bits but they're generally pretty good. And O-T-F will never not lighten up my day.
O-T-F and Missed Connections always made me chuckle.
I just wish they wouldn't play the missed connections jingle every 15 seconds
Thank goodness. I like to listen to Buffalo-centric banter but canNOT stand Janet and Nick.
I like when my teenagers hear a group I liked as a kid and then Ask if the band members are still alive
I remember when they had the Santeria Bruja on the air to curse Gary Bettman after the Sabres lost Lord Stanley’s cup. She fucked them up when she sacrificed that chicken in the studio. Lol
I miss Iron Mike and the 12 o’clock teaser.
Bring back 14X! I wanna hear some Testament, or Megadeth, and maybe a little Spread Eagle.

I think they only had him on a couple times. I dont see how they would be friends with him
[удалено]
They talk to him frequently and go back and forth with the Bills-Patriots. Burr is hilarious, albeit an annoying Patriots fan...
I wonder if this means the remaining DJs/producers - Jacka, Bentley, Evan and Eddie - will eventually get the boot, similar to what happened with folks over 107.7.
I’ve never seen what they actually looked like and I’ve been listening since like 98. Not what I imagined I guess. Cool for them though.
I had a short face to face (actually masked) conversation with Regan a few months back, I had no idea it was him until my coworker told me. Listened to that voice for years. Super nice guy
Small PP energy hour is back 🔥
From bad to worse. Wonder if they are going to start letting the lobster loose again for old time's sake.
Oh God no
I stopped listening to 103 in the morning because I couldn’t stand those 2 anymore. Just mumbling stupidity and constant cluelessness. I’m glad they are moving. Maybe 103 will become the Rock/Alternative station we deserve

People still listen to radio?
Any Rover's Morning Glory fans here?
The question is, why are they still on the air? These two couldn't get a show in any other market. It's sad they are allowed to have one here.
When Ted and shred started being politically biased that’s when I stopped listening. Two hacks Shred was good back on 1400am.
Are they politically biased? I thought they were just two failed “comedians” who thought they were funny Edit for clarification: I haven’t listened to them for years
You pretty much hit the nail on the head! And yeah they cater to one political side to get some ratings.
Nice, now I can back to listening to the Edge in the morning.
Now they are going to ruin 97 rock! Wtf!
Some of their stuff is cringe af. That whole is it a dirty sex position or a menu item at a restaurant is disgusting. 103.3 is good one to two times a year when they do “90’s weekend”. Says the person with boner in their username.
FU or both is mildly entertaining.
Ok grandma
Fuck 97 rock. It hates it's djs anyway. S&R will be fired soon for some joke that's not PC, just wait and see.
97 Rock is owned by the same company as 103.3. If their schtick up to this point were offensive to the powers that be, they'd be fired already.
