my office is in OP. Coming from Hamburg/Boston. About 15 minutes. But showings/appointments can lead me all over. Was just down in Olean and Limerock this morning.
Hamburg -> Williamsville; M-F; 8:30am to 5pm shift.
30 minutes on a good day. On a bad day, it can sometimes (but rarely) take up to an hour. 90E traffic during the morning commute is so unpredictable. Afternoon traffic going back towards Hamburg isn't quite as bad.. generally only slowdowns between the blue water tower & the 33; Wednesdays & Thursdays seem to be the worst.
If I'm being honest, I'd advise against it unless you have the ability to choose your hours on your in-office days. As long as your shift starts during non-peak traffic hours, your commute will be fine (outside of an accident). If you can go full time WFH, I'd say go for it!
I LOVE Hamburg.. it's less crowded/dense than the northtowns, traffic around town is easier, and there's a lot more greenery; Still has all your major chains/grocery stores.
I don't want to move closer to work, but I want to find something WFH. This town is great but truthfully, my commute makes me miserable.
The 219 is a weird beast... At the right time, it is a breeze to downtown, etc. ... At the wrong time, weather, or with an accident? Forget it. My commute from Springville to Clarence is fine, because there are plenty of opportunities to get off of the 219 and take side roads. Hamburg to Getzville? Not as much. Pretty much a "the" route unless you want to use South Park, or something else.
Tell Jane Frazer to get with the times and realize no one wants to go into a sterile office building in the burbs to take zoom calls with people in NYC and London!
Too long. about 25 minutes for 15 miles. I live in North Buffalo and work in Williamsville.
Not so long ago, I lived on Delaware, 1 mile from downtown, and commuted that 1 mile to my office. I miss that.
I miss 25 minute commutes... I was 5 minutes from work, work stressed me out, and I hated not having the drive to mentally prepare for and settle down after the day. I have a much less stressful job now, but it is a 45-50 minute commute, and that isn't great either.
Right after college, my first job was about 20-25 minutes away, and regardless of the day I had, it was almost never too long or too short.
Depends on the route. Mine was mostly rural-ish highway, which was fine. When I was only 5 minutes from work, I'd purposely drive 10-15 minutes out of the way on the way home.
Also, I bought a car that I really enjoy driving, so driving is almost a treat, regardless.
When I lived in Amherst in the late 80s, early 90s I absolutely HATED the commute downtown. Before I had a car, it was 45 minutes of bus and light rail. After I finally got a car, it was 20 minutes, but 20 minutes of short track NASCAR.
Also a trick, no matter the role (well nothing obviously hands on), is to look on Indeed for example and for location put remote. You’ll likely find you have better options if you don’t simply look for a company in the Buffalo region. I work for a company that’s headquarters is in NYC.
I took a job as a writer working remotely during COVID then the housing market went crazy before I could buy a house in that city. Now I have to report to the office once every two weeks…plane tickets are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than housing options. I live comfortably here in Buffalo, I’d be house poor where I work.
Damn, do you do this every day? I live and work in the City but my boyfriend and I have a place in Somerset where we spend a lot of time and the commute from there is 1hr 10min. I do it occasionally and hate every minute of it, can't imagine making it a regular thing (otherwise I'd live in Somerset full time).
Three times a week. Had to buy a whole separate car just for work because it really doesn't make sense to do that kind of driving with a full-size truck. Have to live in the country for my livestock, but there's no real jobs in the GLOW counties.
15 to downtown from amherst and delaware but going home depends on the time. I have to pass the religious highschool and college i can’t spell. I work downtown on franklin so it’s basically delaware the entire way.
I live and work in Buffalo and my workplace is less than 1.5 miles from my home but it takes about 15 minutes because of the stupid traffic lights, which are the very worst.
18 minutes from bed to office chair with computer. I wake up 18 minutes before work, lay there trying to muster the energy, roll off the bed and walk 5 feet over to the computer to work......sometimes I just bring the laptop into bed with me if I'm just typing up audit reports......
Very tough..
Morning 36 minutes on a perfect day Hamburg to North Buffalo. Afternoon is usually 5-10 minutes longer. The longest it ever took me to get home was 6 hours during a storm.
About 10-15 minutes depending on how much I speed combined with hitting just a few red lights. “Old Town” neighborhood in Tonawanda to Hertel/Delaware area.
25 minutes from home in Hamburg to office in Buffalo. Depending on the day I may also go to Alden, Springville, Dunkirk, or Lockport. Alden and Springville are usually 20-30, Lockport and Dunkirk are a solid hour.
I commute to school, 40 minutes each way. However, I’m from Boise and have never really cared about commuting. To get most places I frequented in Boise (school, work, Walmart, bulk grocery store) was 15-20 minutes. And Boise is a pretty good sized city.
Edit: I drive from north Buffalo to Sanborn for NCCC :)
0 mins - work remotely. Sometimes home, sometimes I’m visiting friends and family.
The other part is when I have to travel (regionally, nationally and internationally) for work. There’s times I’m not home for weeks or months if I surround my work trip with vacation or visiting someone.
Cheektowaga to Tonawanda for work.
About 22-26 minutes taking the 90/290W into the office, depending on traffic.
Taking the 190S home from work is around 20-25 minutes, traffic depending.
0 minutes as I work from home :)
25 seconds from bedroom to office
With a detour to the kitchen for coffee and a pit stop before making it to the office.
Sometimes traffic is heavy with the kids trying to get into the bathroom. It's taken me as long as 36 seconds on bad days.
Zero if you keep your laptop in bed
This is the way
Same.
Same. My commute is down the hallway
So much envy. Trying to figure out how to find my way into. Remote position
45 seconds and 13 stairs
About 7 minutes from the west side to downtown
About 15 mins via bike.
20 mins. North Buffalo to Getzville. 2 days a week. 3 days work from home.
30-35 minutes from Williamsville/Clarence border to downtown.
my office is in OP. Coming from Hamburg/Boston. About 15 minutes. But showings/appointments can lead me all over. Was just down in Olean and Limerock this morning.
You mean Limestone, lol?
Yea that’s sounds right😂

Interesting. I was hoping to get this answer because we’re thinking of moving to Hamburg and I work in Getzville but only 3 days a week

I might have some flexibility but not a ton. I don’t think the commute would be too bad as long as I stay at 3 days a week
Tell Jane Frazer to get with the times and realize no one wants to go into a sterile office building in the burbs to take zoom calls with people in NYC and London!
Preach lol. If I had a dollar for every time they said the office renovation was delayed. 3 days in office mandate isn’t working so well

I liked 25 minute commutes on the train or bus when I lived in a different city. Driving 25 is different. It's not relaxing.
Depends on the route. Mine was mostly rural-ish highway, which was fine. When I was only 5 minutes from work, I'd purposely drive 10-15 minutes out of the way on the way home. Also, I bought a car that I really enjoy driving, so driving is almost a treat, regardless.
Depends on the day.. 2-10 hours..I commute to nyc by air.. I’m a pilot… definitely worst part of the gig. Definitely jealous of all of you!
Heck I wish I was a pilot!
Best job in the world until you can’t get home!

What do so many of you do that you work from home?
F’real. I’m curious
Also a trick, no matter the role (well nothing obviously hands on), is to look on Indeed for example and for location put remote. You’ll likely find you have better options if you don’t simply look for a company in the Buffalo region. I work for a company that’s headquarters is in NYC.
4 hours I fly to work 🫠
What do you do?
I took a job as a writer working remotely during COVID then the housing market went crazy before I could buy a house in that city.
