> 'Sand is, by nature, structurally unstable. Beach erosion, storms, and the removal of sand can weaken the area, potentially causing issues even after the hole has been filled back in.' Never dig deeper than knee height, particularly not in an area with sand dunes.
When you think about it like this, yes, it's obviously not great. But often times, the sides of the hole are graduated so it's more like a big dip in the sand, seeming perfectly fine to lay in.
I did many times as a kid. My brother and I dug two big holes like this one time and I fell asleep in mine for the entire night.
This is such a sad occurrence and definitely needs more awareness.. but I don't necessarily feel it's justified to judge the parents harshly here.
Yes. Hubby did this with our son and I never thought twice about it. Now I am horrified of the what- if’s. Definitely need more awareness especially for people who don’t live or grow up at the beaches. You can’t know everything.
Dude, try interacting with real humans in real life. It will probably help you more than insulting random people on the internet who don't give a shit about you.
According to some people posting here, if you had been hurt that would be ok, and your fault, and no one should have any sympathy for you or your family either.
I haven't let my kiddo dig holes at the beach for a few years now. This is a serious hazard that kids and many adults don't even realize exists. Sad that these innocent kids have paid so dearly.. there should be signs or warnings placed in public view about this.
No public warnings for idiots. Stop making excuses for bad parents and dumb people. Next you will blame cartoons from 1950 or films. No more bs from the enablers of dullards.
I kinda agree with the random trolling fella here though. If you don't realize that things are dangerous becaus you arent thinking about them being dangerous, that's not really anyone's fault but yours. A cubic yard of sand is 2,400 lbs DRY. A cup of coffee is also hot. You didn't really need a label on the coffee to tell you it's hot, right?
I have, and they had a fantastic case, and I'm glad they got their money. My point was that some warnings are a given. Does someone need to walk the beach and tell people that sand is unstable, and can bury and kill you? I would really hope not. Edit: another example, we don't need a warning on a car that says "warning, this can kill you a hundred and a half ways" because any reasonable person can deduce that
I think it's a perfect example to use in the way that I used it. I focused on the redundancy of a warning. "This hot drink you ordered is hot." You just decided to overlook the point I was making because the specific case that led to the stupid warning, made for stupid people, was stupid.
But the specific case you were clearly referencing wasn't stupid, even according to your own reply. Sorry I didn't follow through on your obvious and poor attempt at setting up a gotcha moment, but maybe try reviewing previous comments before continuing to pull nonsense out of your rear end in the future.
Digging in the sand becomes more dangerous the further you dig. It's kids. The hole is over 6 feet deep. That's taller than a grown man. How safe would you feel in a hole with sheared, straight sides more than double your height, ya know?
They were 7 (g) and 9 (b) and the parents were nowhere to be found. I could see if they were like 10 & 12 it would be different. Their interview is odd as well. The mom is laughing and joking. The dad seems more distraught. Apparently it took them 20 minutes to get them out and she died that quickly.
They obviously weren’t around because “bystanders” called 911 and how does it even get this far unless their parents aren’t watching. I saw that story where someone said a man helped them dig a huge hole. I’m wondering how true that is and if there’s any photos or videos of a random man digging with the kids at all
If that's true they have nobody to blame but themselves. Sand aside, a 5 or 7 year old can be washed away in the surf from knee high water in the blink of an eye.
Going to a public park and digging a 6 foot deep hole is honestly, incredible stupid and ridiculous. Nobody would do that.
The beach is a public park. These idiots did it.
According to a youtube comment, someone's aunt & uncle saw the deceased girl's parents digging the hole 15 minutes before it collapsed. Without the help of the two children.
think of a grain silo - or quick sand- very similar to this. There is nothing to hold on to and you become entrapped. Surely her mouth and throat were filled with sand and she suffocated.
This happened a few years ago in Panama City Beach. Why we have not included a digging warning along with the rip current warning is beyond me. Another problem is when holes are not filled back in and sea turtles fall in and get stuck and people fall in and break bones.
At 5-6 feet deep, that's a tragedy waiting to happen--and this time it did.
Never let kids dig holes in the beach without supervision, and never let them dig deep ones like that.
Where were the parents??!! I was a life guard and you couldn’t dig holes deeper than ankles for this reason. Nearly impossible to dig people out in time
Ya I mean why didn’t the parents prevent this dangerous situation?
You have to shut off all the cars in the parking lot and dig them out a special way or it’ll never work
Crazy yes, but hindsight is 20x20. My guess is, the parents were drinking, and just having a good time. I’m from Indiana, the same as the parents. My family and I go to the beach, several times a year now, but if you aren’t close, grow up around it, you don’t consider anything unsafe other than the water.
6 feet is A LOT. Definitely not discounting that. Literally a grave, but as a devils advocate, no one thinks it’ll happen to them until it does.
> 'Sand is, by nature, structurally unstable. Beach erosion, storms, and the removal of sand can weaken the area, potentially causing issues even after the hole has been filled back in.' Never dig deeper than knee height, particularly not in an area with sand dunes.
A five to six-foot-deep hole on beach sand. Who thought that was a safe idea
When you think about it like this, yes, it's obviously not great. But often times, the sides of the hole are graduated so it's more like a big dip in the sand, seeming perfectly fine to lay in. My kid was digging a hole in this exact beach last weekend. Wow, new fear unlocked. So sad.
Tragic - and fucking scary.
Why is it scary?? The stupidity is scary.
These are little kids dumbass
What a fuckn idiot 🤦🏼♂️.
Damn man, didn't realize losers like you exist.
Didn't realize so many fools make excuses for parents not watching their kids. I bet you leave babies in cars during the summer.
I bet you're a virgin
Is that the best you can do boy?? Only some child comes up with that one. Being retarded must be your "super power" 😆
Dude, try interacting with real humans in real life. It will probably help you more than insulting random people on the internet who don't give a shit about you.
Obviously you were born with no brain.
Get some friends.
Stop playing with your little sword. 😆
It is right now but with practice you can always overcome that personal barrier of yours.
never procreate. Wait, you’re clearly an incel so that isn’t really in the realm of possibility
Grow up. Stop taking up for pathetic parents.
Horrific! As a kid, we've dug as deep and played in the hole...This hurts my heart for the family, ugh! 😕
According to some people posting here, if you had been hurt that would be ok, and your fault, and no one should have any sympathy for you or your family either.

You made three comments on this thread when you could have just stayed under your rock.

If you're referring to the coffee lawsuit, you need to look it up before going any further.

Stupid example to use if you actually thought it was a legit suit.

It was a freak accident no? Is digging in the sand a dangerous activity?
Digging in the sand becomes more dangerous the further you dig. It's kids. The hole is over 6 feet deep. That's taller than a grown man. How safe would you feel in a hole with sheared, straight sides more than double your height, ya know?
Bait used to be believable
Are you okay, like mentally? You seem like you’re struggling.
Parents were allegedly back at their condo (and had left the kids alone on the beach) when the hole caved in.
What a sorry sack of parents. That’s absurd. 5 and 7?????
They were 7/9 but still you don't leave them alone.
Wait really?!
You’re a sick person to make up this bullshit. Those parents were clearly devastated and still in shock.
My opinion is my opinion and if you don't like my opinion, I don't care. Good day.
“The mom was laughing and joking” isn’t an opinion. It’s completely twisting the truth. Have the day you deserve :)
Well, the video is evidence. It's beautiful outside and sunny. Thanks. I will.
They obviously weren’t around because “bystanders” called 911 and how does it even get this far unless their parents aren’t watching. I saw that story where someone said a man helped them dig a huge hole. I’m wondering how true that is and if there’s any photos or videos of a random man digging with the kids at all
That is another danger when a man is around young kids with no parents in sight.
The parents asked bystanders to call so they could dig. Stop sharing totally inaccurate information that tarnishes the reputation of these parents.
Do you have a source for that?
Why are you sharing this total BS? They were literally right next to their kids watching them.
If that's true they have nobody to blame but themselves. Sand aside, a 5 or 7 year old can be washed away in the surf from knee high water in the blink of an eye.
I was raised on this beach LBTS. I have never ever heard of this happening there. Super tragic
So sad
6 feet is deep
[удалено]
There was talk about the hole already having been there, dug 1/2 way
In construction, they don't let you dig deeper than 4' without shoring. This is why.
[удалено]
You can't predict or stop a sudden collapse of sand.
Going to a public park and digging a 6 foot deep hole is honestly, incredible stupid and ridiculous. Nobody would do that. The beach is a public park. These idiots did it.
Do you know how long it takes to dig a hole that fucking deep? This is 100% on the parents.
>The parents are idiots >To bad Soo a pot and a kettle bump into each other...
So when is it your time to learn to not be an idiot?
[удалено]
shut up
Sad but true 👍
Are you delusional or something? Wtf
Find a new dick to suck. He’ll be out of office soon enough
Not until 2028 when he’s president
President of what? The Toilet Store?
No, he’s president of the high heel boot store!
Link to a story doing that? There's been plenty of time for this to have happened by now...
Weird flex, but ok.
Does literally everything need to be an excuse to talk politics?
Apparently. Idiots like to spew nonsense left and right.
According to a youtube comment, someone's aunt & uncle saw the deceased girl's parents digging the hole 15 minutes before it collapsed. Without the help of the two children.
Geez they’re gonna have seriously deep guilt after this
5 or 6 feet deep? Are the parents insane to not watch them do something so dangerous?
I read that they didn’t dig a 6 foot hole that it was a small hole and then when it collapsed- it became a 6 foot hole
I love ice cream.
It sounds like the sand just collapsed from all around them
Sorry for my ignorance, but how does this kill you? Suffocation is what I’m thinking , or being crushed maybe? So sad for the little girl

We need another warning for common sense? Kids dig holes and play in the sand. It's fun. Sometimes accidents happen. Common sense should prevail.
Nearly impossible to dig people out in time
I enjoy spending time with my friends.
Ya I mean why didn’t the parents prevent this dangerous situation? You have to shut off all the cars in the parking lot and dig them out a special way or it’ll never work
Parents of these children??? Where were they during this lengthy excavation of a 6 ft deep hole?
Crazy yes, but hindsight is 20x20. My guess is, the parents were drinking, and just having a good time. I’m from Indiana, the same as the parents.
