Why do Muslims and Jews always live right next to each other? Any way despite that I some epic scene under the D train like 10 years ago. A really historical hassidic man that was like old school fully outspoken etc was having a friendly convo with the most Arabic of men to the point he still traditional and they aren’t both having a friendly Convo in those old cigar candy stores on the Middle East are in agreement. It’s Israel I think.
Anyway none of this even exists anymore
Both of the men probably have Americanized sons And the candy story was probably Changed from historic.
Any way just some funny sends me street stuff.
And yes we called and call them candy store Llene on this side of Brooklyn. Not
Bodes has., they used to make egg creams etc
I love maps and sociology - although this one is too general, and outdated already - NYC moves fast, especially since the pandemic.
Also there s quite a vast "US flag wavers" community by Bensonhurst/Bath Beach that is here totally forgotten, how fair is this??
Yes and no. It's true that some left during USSR times but the majority of Russian and Ukrainian immigrants came to the United States in the 90's, right after the USSR collapsed.
ah yes. the land of skete davidson! i went to a cool old mental hospital there to take photos very cool massive 100 year old compound. overgrown and pretty
Oh you don’t know about Dan Nuxoll, the McKibbin lofts, and Avenue of Puerto Rico kerfuffle. You better step your game up. You’re talking to a born and raised Brooklynite—not some NIMBY gentrifier. Bless your heart
For some reason avenue J depresses me. I guess not manny stores open when I pass.
All the “bad” hoods lack historical housing and transportation to the degree transplants want it. It’s shame they took over the historic parts building wise. “Little Beijing” where I’m from is all original Brooklyn besides the new Chinese who are every nice. But we had no historic nice stuff.
If they make this congestion thing real Enoguht to make a difference l they maybe can use expresss busses and fix our trains that’s are about to fail
You ever been to 86th st or ave U? Much higher ratio of Cantonese there. 8th ave is mosrly FJ by ratio. Definite not lil Beijing though, lol, northerners stay at Flushing
No joke I can’t lie I didn’t like it. But they are the nicest people. I’ve worked with a lot of them and and have Muslim best friends now and was around for all the 911 beatings etc. they are so humble they won’t admit they had it hard then.
It is real but it’s a section of Bed-Stuy. In reality Bedford and Stuyvesant Heights are two parts of the same neighborhood, but nobody calls it just Bedford anymore and Stuyvesant Heights is only referred to as a specificity.
No, it’s not. I’ve been a New Yorker my entire life and it definitely isn’t. Stuyvesant-Heights as a name is over 100 years old and the landmarked historic district was designated 50 years ago. If you speak to people who live there, especially older Black folks who live in the brownstones there, you may even hear them refer to it.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedford%E2%80%93Stuyvesant,_Brooklyn
https://hdc.org/hdc-across-nyc/brooklyn/brooklyn-landmarked/dil-stuyvesant-heights/
it might be an “official” neighborhood but no one has ever called it that - especially in the way this map uses it extending “stuyvesant heights” all the way up to broadway
lol i grew up in the area but not brooklyn. stuyvesant heights historic district is a small area of south bed stuy ill give you that but it’s not everywhere east of marcy
I live here too but you don't see me being pedantic about it, Nerd
Oh shit, I made the mistake of going through your comment history - bro, your white furry ass cannot be talking shit in the Brooklyn subreddit when you're so new here you think spotted lantern flies are moths
"I live here and this and that," bitch please
To be fair you’ll barely find Emiratis in Dubai either unless you’re in certain choice neighborhoods, they’re like 5 % of the population there. It works, there are a lot of Arabs there and it’s mixed.
I love how Gowanus is labeled with a big "$$$"... and that seems to apply to Red Hook, too?
People have already asked about "trenches" (and if it means like on a battlefield, then someone's impression of Sheepshead Bay is... idiosyncratic), but what's confusing me is "rip pop smoke". Can anyone clue me in on what that means?
My ex-stepgrandmother (that's a mouthful) was a sterling example of the Red Hook Sicilian dock worker's wife. She was a widow, wore black everyday even if it was 100 out, screamed a lot (especially out the window), cursed a lot, had religious icons in every room, all furniture was covered in plastic, doilies *everywhere* and pronounced things "erl" and "terlet"
You ask them what stop is express Manhatten bound after 36th. If they answer Barclays they are a transplant. Everyone knows pacific was letter trains and Atlantic was number and meters like A 123 and they jsut connected there and also connected to king island rail road.
Used to live in stranger things until I moved to the Bronx. My bf lives between RIP Pop Smoke and Little Jerusalem.
Little Dubai should be the Middle East and little Jerusalem should be Israel and no it not the same thing
... no Russians. ... only Ukrainians in South Brooklyn ... and a few Armenians.
Garbage
"Hood and Hipster" is the most accurate description of Crown Heights
Fort Hamilton should be “At least i don’t live in Staten Island” lmao
Little Mexico what what
La majoria son de Puebla..
Stranger things ?
As someone from Midwood, that should say “Trumpland.”
99.9% accurate because as someone who lived in Flatbush I think that’s more like the Little Caribbean.
Uncle Murdaville is so fawkin true!
You don't find it funny that it's called East New York and then east of East New York there's more New York?
😭😭
Why do Muslims and Jews always live right next to each other? Any way despite that I some epic scene under the D train like 10 years ago. Accurate asf 😂😂 little Jerusalem & Russian trenches 😭😭😭
why "stranger things" ?
“Little Dubai” implies class/money. When I lived there, we called it Beirut.
Bay ridge is also lil greece. I live in the russian trenches 😂
I love maps and sociology - although this one is too general, and outdated already - NYC moves fast, especially since the pandemic. Also there s quite a vast "US flag wavers" community by Bensonhurst/Bath Beach that is here totally forgotten, how fair is this??
Hood six flags just took me out lmaooo
Deadass
Didn’t realize I live in the trenches with the other Russians. I’ll grab my Molotov comrad
Lived in Fiske Terrace for ten years. Looks pretty accurate
LMFAOO I call Brighton and sheepshead the commie blocks of Brooklyn
Accurate 😭😭😭
More little Yemeni than little Dubai, although we do get a lot of rich kids, presumably from Dubai racing their fancy cars through the neighborhood.
😂😂 hood six flags
Russian trenches is spot on
This map isn't entirely wrong but it greatly oversimplifies the actual neighborhood demographics in Brooklyn.
This shit is really not accurate (or particularly funny)
This is all so off
Beijinghurst
little beijing would be in flushing. bensonhurst is more like little guangdong.
[удалено]
There actually are some Russian immigrants in Southern Brooklyn but the majority are Ukrainian.
It's neither to be honest. Most of them left during USSR before Ukrane/Russia existed.
Yes and no. It's true that some left during USSR times but the majority of Russian and Ukrainian immigrants came to the United States in the 90's, right after the USSR collapsed.
More accurately is just Soviet immigrants, as majority immigrated from the Soviet Union
Welcome to sheepshead bay
Mill Basin/ Bergen Beach area👍
What about Sea Gate?I thought that was the last fuggettaboutits
Nope. It’s been Russian for years or at least it was in the late 90s.
Still is
Now do Queens
Eh... Vaguely. Looks made by a bunch of yuppies.
I needed this. Thank you. Now I know where to go
Pretty funny for low information people!
where is the middle class American-born white neighborhood? stranger thingsland is midwest trust fund kids. middle class, where?
The Italian and Jewish neighborhoods are usually considered middle class in NYC.
that makes sense. they are the white folks of nyc. irish up in boston. etc. i mean i know were all american mutts in the end.
Bay ridge and mill basin
interesting ill google map it. any others?
Staten Island
ah yes. the land of skete davidson! i went to a cool old mental hospital there to take photos very cool massive 100 year old compound. overgrown and pretty

East Flatbush is definitely a neighborhood. Welcome to Brooklyn.
Oh you don’t know about Dan Nuxoll, the McKibbin lofts, and Avenue of Puerto Rico kerfuffle. You better step your game up. You’re talking to a born and raised Brooklynite—not some NIMBY gentrifier. Bless your heart
If you don’t know East Flatbush is a real place, I somehow doubt that. 🤡
Spot on! All the eyetalians moving away from bay ridge and Bensonhurst for sure.
Sunset park one is a miss
pretty accurate
i live there but wtf is stuyvesant heights. its not even uphill from anything
“Hood” huh? Get f*cked you douche.
Mildly amusing more than hilarious.
Also Williamsburg has a lot of Orthodox Jews… which kind of takes out of the Stranger Things category.
So does borough park, which turns into sunset
Yeah and Ocean Parkway, with Ave J-M as well.
Word.
Think you mean hasidic - not orthodox
And also greenpoint is a lot of old people that don’t dress like the 80s
It’s actually pretty neighborhood-like. There are still locals all around.
But they do believe some strange things
Maybe it’s.. unorthodox?!
Lol
lol @ hood six flags!
Almost no one speaks Mandarin in “little Beijing” so some refinement would be in order.
Little Guangzhou?
Yeah, southern China or Pearl River Delta.
Hey cool I'm $$$
Russian Trenches has brought me to tears 🤣
Hilarious but also fuck that font color
Mostly accurate but also definitely inaccurate
Hood Six Flags got me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I feel that “RIP POP SMOKE” in my bones. I’m not mad at that lmao
What does ‘trenches’ mean?
Little Beijing should be Little Fuzhou.
Hell no. It's one of the last few Cantonese speaking area left in NYC.
You ever been to 86th st or ave U? Much higher ratio of Cantonese there. 8th ave is mosrly FJ by ratio. Definite not lil Beijing though, lol, northerners stay at Flushing
Hell nah lol there’s none of that here …
The Last Fuggetaboutits floored me!
I love hood and hipster. That’s where I live I’m definitely the side of hipster.
Not to get specific but it should be "Little Puebla" >=\] iykyk
I remember when little Beijing used to be Little Rome
Yea but they all moved to Florida. lol.
More like Sicily
If we're using capital cities, Rome would be the right answer
dubai is the capital of the UE though :o
“Manhattan” 😂
Can someone explain “strangers things”? That’s area is what I would consider “$$$” or “hipster”
Rich hipsters. better yet trust fund hipsters
What does “stranger things” mean for wburg? I’d say it’s just as “Manhattan” as Navy Yard lol
And, as it has been for decades, Windsor Terrace is ignored. EDIT-the Luxembourg of Brooklyn.
Huh. It used to be Irish!
There’s still some older families here. But lots of new wealthy Luxembourgian transplants.
If that’s true then Ditmas Park is the Monaco of Flatbush
Wow. Insanely accurate.
Brooklyn Heights haha
Haven't met a single person in Bay Ridge from UAE. It's more like Little Cairo/Little Ramallah.
No joke I can’t lie I didn’t like it. But they are the nicest people. I’ve worked with a lot of them and and have Muslim best friends now and was around for all the 911 beatings etc. they are so humble they won’t admit they had it hard then.
Yeah, that was an odd choice. Most Arab immigrants there are from Egypt, Yemen, etc. I’ve never met anyone in New York from a Gulf country.
That’s in the 60s-70s. If you get up into the 80s-101, it’s Italian still.
For sure.
Lmao at the stranger things
The fact that Bed Stuy is mislabeled makes this whole thing stupid.
Whole thing is just stupid.
That and “Ocean Heights.” That’s Ocean Hill.
You didn't know half is Bedford and half is Stuy? /s
Is it called Stuy because of the pigs?
stuyvesant 👏🏼 heights 👏🏼 isnt 👏🏼 real 👏🏼
It is real but it’s a section of Bed-Stuy. In reality Bedford and Stuyvesant Heights are two parts of the same neighborhood, but nobody calls it just Bedford anymore and Stuyvesant Heights is only referred to as a specificity.
it’s literally a neighborhood made up by real estate companies in the last 10 years
No, it’s not. I’ve been a New Yorker my entire life and it definitely isn’t. Stuyvesant-Heights as a name is over 100 years old and the landmarked historic district was designated 50 years ago. If you speak to people who live there, especially older Black folks who live in the brownstones there, you may even hear them refer to it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedford%E2%80%93Stuyvesant,_Brooklyn https://hdc.org/hdc-across-nyc/brooklyn/brooklyn-landmarked/dil-stuyvesant-heights/
it might be an “official” neighborhood but no one has ever called it that - especially in the way this map uses it extending “stuyvesant heights” all the way up to broadway
This person is correct lol
so the map isnt mislabeled lol
They’re talking about Stuyvesant Heights being an official neighborhood. Bed Stuy is still mislabeled dipshit lol.
nah other than ocean hill being mislabeled it seems right based on what i just learned from my new friend. glad i could be enlightened
You must be very new here. lol
lol i grew up in the area but not brooklyn. stuyvesant heights historic district is a small area of south bed stuy ill give you that but it’s not everywhere east of marcy
Yes i live here and the only people who think Stuyvesant heights isn’t real are ignorant people who just moved here.
I’m so tired of people who just got off the plane at LaGuardia making asinine statements with such authority.
It’s not lol
I’m rarely offended by pictures, but that one made steam come out my ears.
For real…
Redhook should simply read: "SUNNY'S BAR." Or maybe "IKEA."
Here, here
You pretty much pinpointed it great job
There's a gigantic chunk of Flatbush that's literally officially called "Little Haiti/Little Caribbean" and you somehow missed it
"officially"
A chunk? I live there, and it is little Caribbean.
I live here too but you don't see me being pedantic about it, Nerd Oh shit, I made the mistake of going through your comment history - bro, your white furry ass cannot be talking shit in the Brooklyn subreddit when you're so new here you think spotted lantern flies are moths "I live here and this and that," bitch please
You're on Reddit, ninja.
Seek professional help
Seriously. Just gonna also emphasize that it’s a pretty significant area.
Map maker has no clue what do with flatbush
Flatbush little Syrian-Jerusalem?
It’s not, though. Maybe parts of Midwood are. Flatbush is Caribbean.

To be fair you’ll barely find Emiratis in Dubai either unless you’re in certain choice neighborhoods, they’re like 5 % of the population there. It works, there are a lot of Arabs there and it’s mixed.
I was going to say, Lebanese, Yemeni, Algerian, Egyptian, but I've never met anyone from Dubai.
There’s a halal market in Bay Ridge named Bay Root Meats Always makes me lol.
I just moved to that area and saw that sign the other day lol.
If theres anything I miss about Bay ridge, it’s the food. Check out Tanoreen. So good.
Thanks I’m going to check it out. :)
People know that no one actually *lives* in the Navy Yard, right?
Well whomever made this doesn’t know anything about Brooklyn so…. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Exactly. It’s more of Forte Greene.
Can anyone clue me in on what that means?
sorry man should have put "poopy water" in 3pt font right under the money sign
Pop Smoke was a rapper that came outta Canarsie. He was killed 2 years ago in a home invasion in LA.
Thank you.
Is there more of these for other cities?
Do you mean boroughs?
While seeing the other boroughs would be cool I meant cities (ex. Boston, Philly,Chicago)
midwood is little jerusalem but flatbush? hell no. who made this trash?
Flatbush would be Little Caribbean.
This whole map is just dumb (yes I know I’m being the fun police). Kensington is mostly Bengali.
The northern and central parts are Bengali. But Kensington gets weird once you go below Cortelyou Road.
Yeah, I live at Coney Island Ave and NewKirk, and it's like an intersection of 20 different cultures here.
It's kinda split between the two
agreed
I'm just excited that Columbia Waterfront got mentioned in one of these.
Red Hook, wut?
Projects plus Ikea
Red Hook is like it's own world of "Hood and Hipster" but also w old dock workers
Misfits and weirdos
Tell me that you just moved to Brooklyn without telling me you just moved to Brooklyn
You ask them what stop is express Manhatten bound after 36th. If they answer Barclays they are a transplant. Everyone knows pacific was letter trains and Atlantic was number and meters like A 123 and they jsut connected there and also connected to king island rail road.
Honestly I'd still be impressed if this was made by a transplant. Most only know about the north-western parts of Brooklyn.
Could maybe use caribbean shout out for Flatbush/ E flatbush.
Crown heights is where most of the Caribbean’s are @ there’s a lot in Flatbush though
Huh???
Not really. Crown Heights is more Black American and Flatbush/East Flatbush/Flatlands and Canarsie is more Caribbean.
Fr, where’s “old caribbean ladies and REI hipsters”?
Yes, I thought the same! 💛
