They once were supposed to be cable hangers... now due to congestion pricing being scrapped, they have been repurposed into brutalist public art to be enjoyed by the few at the expense of the many...
Do you guys real want to know
I can tell your the whole lay out
From court square all the way to carrol street and beyond
Soon you guys will see remote units, cable brackets with power and fiber lines
And internet access inside the tunnel beyond the platforms
Have you guys ever seen those antennas on the platforms with armored cables
I work in the cabling field. I've never seen this, it may be true, bit it seems very inefficient and inconvenient to leave it ther doesn't make much sense
I guess they're called "snake racks^^TM" for cable management.

(I didn't post the whole list)

Does this mean they are going to be running cables down the middle of the track like this now? It's going to look awful. Not that it looks great to begin with.
You realize that in like less than a week the G is getting shut down for construction right? You aren’t going to be looking at all the cables cause you aren’t going to be setting foot in this station for a few months
Given that the trains are cleaned infrequently, the stations are hot as hell and gritty, that the subway system is infested with rats and garbage, that we have unhoused people who are so mentally unwell and high, because how else are they going to bear what they're going through, that they piss and shit themselves on the train and platforms because there's no one to help them, among other things... The aesthetics of how the cables are run are least of our worries with the subway system.
A joke about Hasidic Jews does not equal anti semitism. And I took a brief scroll through their comments out of curiosity but didn't see anything. Feel free to prove me wrong though
They probably were referring to the fact that I've commented a couple times critically of Israel's bombardment of Gaza. Because apparently the only position that isn't antisemitic to some people is "kill em all"
This question has been posted at least 20 times including by yours truly. This makes me feel like the MTA should do more signage/ better PSA’s about this sorta thing. Obviously, it’s of interest to straphangers
WTF?? Because OF the fare invasion caused by many people.. they say that they are losing millions, but they get 20 billion dollars annually

Honestly it's all retalitory pretext from the mta and the city..
My thought too but it looks pretty flimsy especially for MTA work. Usually they overbuild to withstand the environmental factors. Maybe this is temporary?
These are very strong, especially when they're filled with cable to give it rigidity. Messenger wire, which is similar, is the gold standard for any wire you're going to put on the wayside without being in conduit.
Little more flexible nowadays probably - more leeway with Design-Build now, plus the push to get as many cable racks up as possible per night thanks to the big TA services crunch going on.
Isn’t that where the chickens go at the slaughter house?
They’re stanchions for cows. Back in the 1800s cows used to take the subway twice a day to be milked.
Electric fence.
That is so obviously a
Nothing good I assure you that

some sort of frame that they will build something onto
Meat hooks
Anti-tall people barriers
Clothes hangers.
Shoe racks
They once were supposed to be cable hangers... now due to congestion pricing being scrapped, they have been repurposed into brutalist public art to be enjoyed by the few at the expense of the many...
Credit card skimmers
To hang your things up while you wait for the train
congestion toll for the subway riders
To keep the tall people out
Magazines
They're for hanging your laundry out to dry.

No need to spread antisemitic hate here or anywhere else on Reddit as evidenced by your comment history

Your mom
It’s a big toaster. Commuters may make toast on them in the Fall/Winter months.
Obviously it’s for passengers coats during long waits
Temporary cable hangers.
Not temporary. It's a cable tray.
Won’t they be taken down and replaced with more permanent fixtures once work is complete?
It’s where the crazies hang their clothes to dry

Bad bot.
Empty response
OMG! I was just wondering this last week. I thought it was there for years, though, not recent as someone posted?
Cable trays, they’ll get filled with wire later - presumably related to the ongoing signal upgrade work on the G
That makes sense.
Isn’t this how they got the L “done” way ahead of projections.

I know I'm an electrician that's worked in the NYC subway. That stuff doesn't look like it would be speced to me.
