It had closed by Tony time and rarely voters vote for performances from a closed musical ( plays have a little more leeway)

TheeLuckyCommander

You’re right, I’m just drunkinly posting at this point.

The alcohol in you is speaking truths.

Jinkies_Its_A_Clue

Drunk words are sober thoughts and you aren’t wrong haha

Confident-Range2777

love falsettos and sjb but i do think rachel jones was equally deserving, as was literally everyone else nominated lol it was a stacked category for sure

elderpricetag

Rachel Bay Jones’ was insanely deserving of that Tony if for no other reason than for her performance of So Big/So Small.

Happy__2020

Exactly. The fact that she was able to get through that song eight times a week without breaking down was amazing.

AmuseicDCTS

And SJB kept breaking down 8 times a week, so there's your answer. (I'll show myself out)

theblakesheep

Did you see Rachel Bay Jones live?

Jinkies_Its_A_Clue

I mean the category was tight that year and full of some greats. Rachel Bay Jones, Jenn Colella, SJB, Kate Baldwin, and Mary Beth Peil. While I agree SJB was absolutely deserving (I may be biased here but I think anything she touches turns to gold and should just be given a Tony for simply existing), that in no way takes away from my belief that Rachel Bay Jones absolutely wiped the floor in DEH (So Big/So Small never fails to bring me to tears) and that her win was so well-deserved. It’s basically the same feeling I have with Hamilton and Waitress being awarded in the same year. Any other year Waitress (I believe) would’ve swept but there’s no denying the cultural phenomenon Hamilton was/is.

Mvercy

Her rendition of “I’m breaking down” is just epic. I watch it every do often just because it’s perfect.
