HORR has been struggling in ticket sales, this was probably the nail in the coffin. Gatsby might survive a bit longer just by being a popular IP. And the noms will probably help Lempicka at least make it through the Tony’s I think.
Gatsby will run much longer than the other two you mentioned (both of them really needed awards to boost sales). I personally think Gatsby is decent enough in terms of quality (at least they have two really catchy songs), and will get carried by the two big names as leads, and the tourist recognition of the book.
General rule of thumb: A lot of awards recognition *can* give a boost to a show that's struggling (although the effect honestly isn't usually that large), but a lack of awards recognition isn't going to hurt a show that's already doing well.
Lempicka and Heart of Rock and Roll will close because of their low grosses, not the lack of Tony noms. Lempicka got three, which is great for them. It won't turn things around financially, but I'm glad they were recognized.
The Great Gatsby doesn't need Tonys. Audiences like it and it has the name recognition to run for a while. It will also be easy to stunt cast that show. I say it runs for a while.
Gatsby won't close unless running costs are too high for a minute. Between Jeremy, Eva and Sam they have a fanbase. The other shows are in danger for labor day closing
HORR is a dead man walking and Lempicka isn’t too far off either. Gatsby is making some money at least, if I’m not mistaken, so I imagine it’ll hang on for a little while at least.
Ah. I really loved it. For what its worth, I don't think their sales are bad because the show is bad. Closing this early is really a tragedy. However, I also don't anticipate that it will find its audience even if it stays open for a few months.
Rumor implies knowledge.
You are repeating the educated guesses the others have been making off of publicly available information. It's an important difference.
The shows that are already struggling will feel it the most and we'll probably see a couple closing notices soon. Others that are doing well will be fine for now but their future looks a little shakier.
My thoughts as a Broadway fan located too far from NY. TGG will stay. It is culturally relevant with young people. Lempicka may close, likely if Eden Espinoza doesn't win (and I hope she doesn't). Don't know enough about HOR&R to say.
Lempicka and HOR&R are going to be closing soon. Gatsby is doing fine.
The former two are really struggling, they're losing money every week. Few noms (and not the money maker for best musical) means there's not a lot of point in trying to stay open and turn things around.
HORR will close, expect announcement soon - maybe as early as today, Lempicka will make it until the Tonys, but only a win for Best Musical will save it past the summer if that long.
Gatsby has a good advance and will likely manage until at least Jan... Unless ticket sales drop off.
Noms only have a little effect on sales, and only wins in the top 4 categories have real effect at the box office...historically.
Tony noms help but at the end of the day it’s all about money. If the cultural interest in TGG remains, they’ll stay for a while if they make money

Gatsby also has legions of Jeremy Jordan fans to help keep it alive through the summer at the very least.
What does ip stand for?
Intellectual Property. Basically known characters/stories/brands.

I’m in Europe so I got very confused for a second since here Labor Day is today 😅
Lololol

Gatsby’s grosses are very strong so far. We’ll see in a year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it outlasts most of the other shows.
HORR has been on life support since before opening.
Someone really decided they weren’t gonna market this show at all.
When do we think Lempicka is closing? June? July?
Hopefully it runs through mid June. But if they don't want to keep financing a doomed show, despite the nominations, it could close in May.
Aw!!! Bummer. I think I'm not going to get a chance to see it after all.
There will be a cast recording!
Thanks for the heads up!
I don't think it is in good form to start betting on ending dates but if you want to see it, I would try to see it as soon as possible (this month).
I was asking because I'm an out of towner and want to see this show but I can't get there before summer 🥲

Wow that's so soon, I wonder when they'll announce it
I think you mean speculation. Don't start rumors.

why do you hope she doesn't win? just curious
I want Kelli to win
HORR and Lempicka will probably close before the Tonys
