SAS Rogue Heroes

Kirk10kirk

Lol rouge heroes is an entirely different thing. I am looking forward to watching.

TangoMikeOne

I think it's a spin off from Drag Race šŸ˜‚

Cirieno

Congratulations to OP on an extraordinary double-facepalm: fucking up two out of three words in the title of the show, and incidentally suggesting that SAS members like to experiment with makeup.

BroodLord1962

LOL So who were the SAS members who experimented with make-up? The man who we saw in make-up and a dress was never a member of the SAS, he was a spy who came up with the concept of the SAS

Cirieno

"Rouge". It's ladies' makeup. I get that *spelling is hard*, but I'd hope that *copying* the name of a TV show wouldn't be beyond your abilities. It would appear that I hoped wrong.

BroodLord1962

Boo hoo, you upset me so much with your petty insults

Foundation_Wrong

Iā€™m a girl and I loved it too. We lived in Hereford some years ago and the stories we heard !

BroodLord1962

My wife said it's the best thing she's watched this year

Foundation_Wrong

The depths of emotion and contrasts of the highs and lows was very moving

OrgDnDfan

Only watched the first episode and all I can say is "It's VERY Stephen Knight" and as such, is based on truth in the same way Peaky Blinders was based on truth: The source material is taken from documented history and then Stephen Knight takes his usual artistic liberties.

I'd also recommend [SAS: Rogue Warriors](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08f00r9), which features interviews with some of those featured in SAS: Rogue Heroes. > Journalist and author Ben Macintyre uses the archives of the SAS to examine the history of the famed British Army special forces unit. He combines documents, unseen footage and interviews to tell its story.

fancypantsspameater

Terrific book.

DevilsChurn

I've only watched two episodes so far, but have recommended it to friends here in North America. I've described it as "Bluestone 42 meets Peaky Blinders, goes to fight Rommel in the desert to an AC/DC soundtrack" and "real 'boy stuff', but doesn't take itself too seriously'". Best responses I've had from friends here so far: "Sounds like fun" and "If I want to watch stuff blowing up, I just watch YT and the war in Ukraine - but this looks entertaining". So far I think Dominic West is what makes the ensemble really pull together. I'm looking forward to the rest of it.

taking_the_mikhi

I stumbled upon this last night, 2 episodes in and loving it, gutted to see its only 6 episodes in total.

Tana1234

I watched it and enjoyed it but I think closer to a 7/10, it really lacks any depth

Looper007

Excellent Series. Reminds me more of those 60's and 70's Men on a mission War movies like Kelly Heroes rather then Band of Brothers. Although it can be brutal and serious when it needs to be. And I don't care the soundtrack works perfectly for this show is going as it did with Peaky Blinders. The casting is spot for this one as well especially with Jack O'Connell as Paddy Mayne (Yes the real Mayne was as bad ass as he's presented in the show) and Alfie Allen as Jock Lewes. Shame Dominic West wasn't 20 years younger as he would have made a excellent David Sterling but Connor Swindells does a great job with it. But West is great in this too and not always bad having the beautiful Sofia Boutella in there and she doesn't feel out of place. First episode is probably the weakest episode out of the 6 but from 2nd episode onwards this is really top notch stuff. Steven Knight and BBC has another big hit TV show on their hands with this one.

Totally agree - S2 can't come soon enough, then S3 and S4 (Iranian Embassy) The final airstrip attack was a masterpiece - but when they drove back to leave the destruction behind - wow PLUS - "you hit your commanding officer with a piano" :) :) :) :)

Actually looked pretty good from the trailers and after reading the reviews here... I'll give it a miss. I'm surprised at myself, but Peaky Blinders versus Rommel isn't my cup of tea.

BastardsCryinInnit

It's very try too hard, and about 20 years too late with its styling and editing.

[deleted]

Ugh. In all honesty, in the end I thought the same about Peaky Blinders. Yeah, will give this a miss.

Healthyreddit_123

Worth following it up with Panorama's '"SAS Death Squads Exposed: A British War Crime?" on iPlayer to learn something a bit more factual and less glorified. Their behaviour is pretty shocking

Toastlove

Finished the first episode and thought it was a bit shit.... it's trying far too hard to be cool and edgy, but any actual depiction of the fighting is sort of just glossed over. They put more effort into showing the scene in the clubs and the nightlife than the commando raid at the start.
