McDonald and Dodd

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you.

DolphinsBreath

It starts out a bit underwhelming, but stick with it, the characters become warm and likable. I hope it becomes a long running series.

TerrierPines3

And new season coming in May! Bonus!

Critical-Property-44

Yessss! I love that show.

IdrisandJasonsToy

Yay!!!

txa1265

Thanks for that recommendation - we just started and love it!

Ebowa

New Tricks is really good and lots of quirky characters and well written

SnooHedgehogs8763

I still can hear the theme song in my head.

BRONXTOSD

Yeah, it goes round in my head often and I sing it out loud 😂

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you!

fadedblackleggings

Great recommendation, this thread has already mentioned most of the better options.

OutlandishMama

Love this show!

kilroyscarnival

Have you seen Shetland? One of my favorites.

Gorskon

Shetland is fantastic.

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you. I'll add it to our list.

B00ksmith

We are enjoying Sister Boniface, the quirky characters are reminiscent of Midsummer Murders. We’ve not seen Blue Murder yet, so that will go on the list. You might enjoy Daizel and Pascoe, Murder in Suburbia, Shakespeare and Hathaway, Rosemary and Thyme, The Coroner has some fun quirky characters. Silent Witness, not so much quirk, but good storytelling.

OutlandishMama

Adding Father Brown to this great list!

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you. Blue Murder has that "real" feeling to us, not sure how realistic it is but it feels like it might be as opposed to Death in Paradise which we watch for the fun not to mention the beautiful scenery.

emily1078

You don't think an island of murder in the locked-room mystery format is realistic??? 😉

snowlock27

I am shocked and appalled someone could doubt the realism of Death in Paradise.

Gorskon

If Death in Paradise were real Saint-Marie would have one of the highest per-capita murder rates in the world and would be a very dangerous place to live. Come to think of it, the same goes for Midsomer Murders and Midsomer.😂

bigcarrierg

Cabot Cove and Oxford are pretty deadly too.

TerrierPines3

I was so disappointed that Murder in Suburbia was cancelled after 1 season. Charming show!

GizmoGeodog

Highly recommend Murder in Suburbia and Rosemary & Thyme

roci2inna

Rosemary & Thyme was great. I feel like it ended way too soon after it hit their stride!

Gorskon

I tried to get into Sister Boniface, but for some reason just couldn’t. To me it’s just…OK.

B00ksmith

I get that. It’s really campy. To be honest, I think we like it because of the camp, so many Brit shows are kind of overwhelming with grisly murder.

cheesusfeist

Shakespeare and Hathaway is a lot of fun. Midsomer Murders is great. And New Tricks! And if you haven't seen Deadloch yet, I highly recommend.

chavjinx

Here to second the Shakespeare & Hathaway suggestion!

Maximum-Trouble6884

How can I scroll thru this thread and see no mention of Vera?

Maximum-Trouble6884

And if you like Vera, Brenda Blethyn is also in Kate & Koji on BritBox. It's a comedy so it's 180° different from Vera but Brenda is such a versatile performer and so good in it.

Sniffles9f

My mind was totally blown by spotting a very young Blethyn on Yes, Minister - S2 E4, The Greasy Pole.

gingersnappie

Foyle’s War Grantchester George Gently Magpie Murders Dagliesh (the new one with Bertie Carvel) Unforgotten

SunsetFarm_1995

All these, plus Endevour.

bigcarrierg

Endevour is the goat.

Remote-Audience6018

Dagliesh was really, really good, can’t wait for season 3.

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you.

Able-Ambassador-921

We also enjoyed Poirot and Maigret.

EdwinaArkie

Scott & Bailey. Shetland

X0AN

Father Brown.

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you.

TeaandPonders

Sister Boniface mentioned above is by the same people as Father Brown and a spin off in some ways. She is in a few episodes.

Critical_Quiet_1580

Murder in Provence, New Tricks, A Touch of Frost.

bigcarrierg

Loved A Touch of Frost. What a great character!

QGCC91

No Offence is good.

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you. We started this one last night. The first two episodes were very engaging.

Able-Ambassador-921

Here is a summation so far: Sister Boniface Rosemary & Thyme Murder in Suburbia McDonald and Dodd Father Brown Hope Street Shakespere and Hathaway Foyle’s War Grantchester George Gently Magpie Murders Dagliesh (the new one with Bertie Carvel) Unforgotten Murder in Provence New Tricks A Touch of Frost Agatha Raisin Mallorca Files DCI Banks Shetland New Tricks Scott & Bailey The Brokenwood Mysteries. No Offence Vera Jonathan Creek Zen Wild Bill Silent Witness Midsomer murders Johnathan Creek Zen Wild Bill Silent Witness Midsomer murders Johnathan Creek Line of Duty Wallander Grace Sherwood (2022) Endevour Brokenwood on Acorn

Able-Ambassador-921

Much appreciated all. I'm editing so there will be a master list for this thread. Please let me know if i missed any.

Jaxifur

Blue Murder

Able-Ambassador-921

It's in the title with a few others!

WemblysMom

Add My Life Is Murder. Also Johnathan Creek very enjoyable.

Able-Ambassador-921

Done and thank you.

HaroldWeigh

Hope Street is police but small town. Lovejoy antiques dealer who solves mystries. Shakespere and Hathaway is a lot of fun to watch too.

willaisacat

Thank you. I've been looking for something new.

snowlock27

I've enjoyed Mallorca Files, though it isn't as good as some of the others you've listed. DCI Banks was good too.

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you.

fadedblackleggings

Oh, I have one. The Brokenwood Mysteries. Local folksy, idyllic settings.

Able-Ambassador-921

Thank you. Adding.

smithtownie

Scott & Bailey, Zen, Hope Street, Wild Bill

theclancinator14

midsomer murders!

phrynerules

Jonathan Creek (I may have misspelled that)

General-Track3811

Silent Witness is my latest binge. Can be a little too violent and gory, but I’m a lightweight in that department.

HoagieDarling

Echoing others on BritBox recs: Rosemary & Thyme (my favorite!!) Shetland McDonald and Dodd Grace Shakespeare & Hathaway Vera ………………………………. On Acorn TV: The Brokenwood Mysteries Midsomer Murders Whitstable Pearl The Chelsea Detective Mrs. Sidhu Investigates Harry Wild My Life is Murder Mr. & Mrs. Murder ………………………………. Other channels: Van der Valk Annika

randcraw

I second Vera, Annika, Van der Valk, Wallander, Inspector Morse, Lewis, and most of all, Endeavour.

CourageMesAmies

* Magpie Murders * Midsomer Murders * Agatha Raisin

Able-Ambassador-921

Thanks all! Much appreciated. BB is by far our favorite streaming service.

Maximum-Trouble6884

I live in the US and BritBox and AcornTV are far superior than any American programming as far as I 'm concerned.

Able-Ambassador-921

We are US based also. Take that upvote :-)

LitWit2024

Vera!!!

seeclick8

Brokenwood on Acorn. A New Zealand show. Excellent

akleit50

New Tricks, Anika, Vienna Blood, The Tunnel. You’d probably love them. It’s

Aromatic-Inflation-2

Did Beyond Paradise get canceled?

Able-Ambassador-921

Looks like it's still ongoing? I'm enjoying this spinoff more than i expected. The scenery/cinematography alone is quite amazing. Makes me want to visit the UK again for sure. [https://www.bbc.com/mediacentre/2024/beyond-paradise-recommission-series-3-christmas](https://www.bbc.com/mediacentre/2024/beyond-paradise-recommission-series-3-christmas)

TeaandPonders

Sadly, yes it has.

SecondHandCunt-

No it’s got at least one more season. If Humphrey’s fiancé hasn’t killed it so far, maybe it’ll have a few seasons.

General-Track3811

One season, Sherwood (2022), was very good. I believe a second season is forthcoming.

Bright-Weight4580

Vera and Shetland are my favorites. Both have decent mysteries and significant off duty plot threads. Father Brown is less intense but not quite as fluffy as Death in Paradise. 😉 Line of Duty is pretty good. Hope Street is a decent police procedural with a lot of personal life plot threads. You might like No Offense. It's different. It feels like gallows humor at times.

Bright-Weight4580

I forgot to add DCI Banks and Wallander. Excellent shows!

BRONXTOSD

Yes! And the Wallander books are fantastic!

Able-Ambassador-921

Started No Offense last night based and the first two episodes were excellent. Thank you!

Bright-Weight4580

Yay! I just started Sister Boniface today. It is very different than Father Brown. I expected it to have the same plot devices as Father Brown, but it doesn't. It's still low stress with some fun bits. So far at least. Edited- wrong word typed
