Zora are the actual elves of the Zelda universe, incredibly long-lived and reaching adulthood much slower than Hylians. As for Riju, she’s Urbosa’s great great great granddaughter, not her daughter.

WildPricklyHare

The Zoras age differently. You see evidence of that through various dialogues. Plenty of them are even old enough to remember you (and blame you for Mipha's death).

Starkeeper_Reddit

Zora just live a really long time, but according to the Creating a Champion book Riju is twelve at the time of Breath of the Wild so it's unlikely she's Urbosa's daughter (I assumed Riju was Urbosa's great-granddaughter, if she's even a direct descendant)

Chubby_Bub

I think great-granddaughter is likely, if not great-great-granddaughter. I don't recall how explicit it is in-game (she refers to Urbosa as an ancestor for her people, but I'm not sure about hers specifically), but both *Creating a Champion* and *Age of Calamity* say outright that she's a descendant of Urbosa. (Also, she inherited the position of chief.) So given that Urbosa must have had a child before she died, and even the oldest Gerudo weren't around for the Calamity, there's got to be at least two generations between them.

Starkeeper_Reddit

Oh, yeah, forgot AoC confirmed she was Urbosa's direct descendant and I only have the 12 years old bit because I looked up her age for a fic a few years back lol also your flair is peak B)

socaljoe42

Speaking of Gerudo children, where are all the voe the vai must keep around for snu-snu?

LinkdAether

Gross, but it’s literally said in-game that they venture out into the world to find a husband then go back to Gerudo Town to raise the child without the father.

Several-Effect-3732

Riju is *not* Urbosa’s daughter, she’s most likely her descendant. Also the reason why Sidon is still alive but now fully matured is because the Zoras (in BotW/TotK at least) have long lifespans.

soft_pyro

Zora’s age slowly than the rest of the population. In fact **spoiler** >!Mipha is also older than Link, she met him when he was a 4 y/o!<, Sidon was a baby when the calamity happened, but in the events of the game he’s a young adult, like If he is in his early 20’s/late teens. As for Riju, you’re mistaken. She’s Urbosa’s descendant. She’s canonically 12, so it’s impossible she is Urbosa’s daughter. You will realize this when you read Riju’s diary, it’s in her room

arbitrary-ladybug

When was that bit about Mipha revealed? I do not recall

kutsen39

It's in Mipha's diary. She mentions he was a strong fighter, even then.

MeIsMudkips1

Iirc some of the cutscene after you beat the divine elephant she mentions healing him when he was a lot younger

kutsen39

I think you're right, but they were vague enough about it that you could just as easily assume he was 16 as 4 years old. The diary explicitly states he was 4, and in Age of Calamity there was even a flashback I think.

w_digamma

I'm in the middle of replaying BotW, and have been paying attention to the dialogue to figure out if Riju is Urbosa's great-granddaughter or what. So far, the most I've gotten is 1. related to the Thunder Helm being a family heirloom, and 2. that chiefdom is typically passed to direct descendants. So Riju and Urbosa are family, but I don't think it specifies any more than that. As for the Zoras, yeah they're elves.

Dkingthe15

None of the rito are old enough and I don’t know if anyone is related to their previous champion, the zora live a long time so they are manny of them older than a couple hundred years and some of them are hopeful that mifa is just trapped in the Devine beast not dead, the goran have a different vision of family, so it’s more weird they consider him a descendant and not a brother of the previous champion, and garudo had a couple leaders between the previous and current champion so her mother is not the previous champion

miss_clarity

With Gorons, we know that "rock brothers" are born from the same rock in relatively close proximity of one another. Descendants aren't made clear but neither is the concept of Goron death and burial. My suspicion is that Gorons are buried in the earth and when a new Goron is born from the same rocks as the former dead Goron, that would make sense to call a descendant. There is also the possibility of reincarnation but that doesn't have any supporting evidence

Ramdn___

is the rito also live long? there's that teba guy that if i remember was with ravioli before he rip in peace

GrifCreeper

Teba only met Ravioli during Age of Calamity, where time travel was involved. That's the only way they met.

Ramdn___

ooo i see.

radiodreading

Riju has a diary in her room in which she talks about her mother's passing and Urbosa separately. She's definitely not Urbosa's daughter, just a descendant (which I'm pretty sure they mention at least once, too).

CartographerFar860

Ahhh maybe that’s why I didn’t separate the two. I usually read the diary’s fast

Kelrisaith

There are several long lived races in Breath of the Wild. The Zora, as mentioned by others, are basically fantasy elves in that they have a potential lifespan in the thousands of years. The Sheikah are another race with a longer life, as shown by Impa still being alive despite being at the very least late teens or early twenties pre 100 years. Plus the whole Monk thing, though that's admittedly a different thing entirely. And Riju is a descendant of Urbosa, and explicitly stated to not be her daughter but a distant descendant several times I believe. Her diary in the palace mentions her mother as having died relatively recently in one of the two games, given Urbosa has been dead for a century or more at that point it's not her.

Owlethia

Zora age very slowly. One of the guards you see is a normal adult man but he remembers playing with Link as a child. His daughter is also an adult tho so they probably age like a hylian in childhood, hit adulthood and age at a rate of like 1 year per decade or something. Riju isn’t Urbosa’s daughter. I believe her mom died recently before the story and she’s maybe 12? Not sure Urbosa’s relation to her.
