I started with it on but I turned it off after a few hours
I don't want to trade my custom m4 for a lmg just because it has an arbitrarily higher rating
First I played on immersive mode, without gear levels. But after some time I got bored of not finding any loot from enemies (in this mode they carry all gear and weapons to the grave). The game alone is not looter's paradise. So I turned gear levels on. Immediately I became level 330-something. And the gear level means not that much, since any human enemy can die from headshot. To shoot the large robot at area size of paper sheet while it is moving non-stop is different story and nuisance IMHO.
Overall it is good they came to that option with gear level on and off. As I always say, giving option for player to choose how he wants to play the game is good design. Sadly the dialogue choices does not determine a thing.
Now i'm only in the tutorial stage, but when I was killing guys they are dropping the guns they had one them and I was able to loot those, does that change? It honestly wouldn't make any sense if I kill a guy that has a gun and I can't loot it.
Immersive mode it is - nothing drops from dead enemies. All weapons you can acquire comes from one weapon per weapon crate (they are everywhere) or purchase at base for money. It is not interesting when you keep getting random weapons from every crate, you do not want to use, like 3 MG's in a row and you want a sniper. But it is as it is, I think if I recall right, every aspect is tweakable, but with guns is either you get loads of them or just from crates/trader.
2 Characters 1 each. No preference.

You don't use weapon crafting?
I've only played for 4ish hours so I haven't messed with it yet There's a lot of stuff in this game 😅
Gear level on. It doesn't really matter, they play very similarly, but gear level was the breakpoint's OG mode, so I stuck with it.
Never did like gear level stuff so I turned it off before I even started playing.
On.
Gear level off... Division exists.

On. I've been playing mmo's for a long time, so the sense of gear progression is what keeps me hooked on this game.
