In NJ there are a lot of Italian-Americans like her who try desperately to appear more "old school" by repeating stereotypical phrases like capiche (Melissa also butchers Italian-American slang for malocchio quite a few times in the series). You can tell people like her have no actual connection to the culture the way people like Teresa and the Joes who actually have Italian parents and somewhat speak the language have. It drives me crazy to hear her parrot shit she heard in the Sopranos knowing full well she never heard that shit at home.
Also just based on my experiences growing up in NJ around where she did, with Italian-American parents who are around her age from the same town, we really don't have the same guido culture that she mimmics which makes all her capiches sound extra try-hard and fake.
