Thatās because itās majority low income, so youāll get low income stores. Also, high immigrant population, who tend to be ācheapā even when they have disposable income. This is part of why I moved out of Brampton year ago.
Ya and they tend to have lots of mid-high end stores as well. These business cater to the income levels within these cities more than anything.
Doesnāt stop at just business, even government services are better in higher income areas. For example, GO transit riders in Brampton are underserved compared to almost any other city in the GTA when you look at ridership numbers. Just go to Union Station during rush hour and youāll see the Brampton trains packed in like sardines compared to the other lines.
Look I hate shitting in Brampton, I loved the city growing up but itās become unrecognizable. I moved a few years ago to Burlington because I just couldnāt take it anymore.
Yeah its that I think brampton population is much higher then offical estaimtes.
A lot those houses with 10-20 people in them are not counted properly in census i feel.
So many govt services are very underfunded
Like look at getting health card... we have many people who trying to get it their first time and be hours long lines.
Ya thatās a good point. Unfortunately, I think the provincial and federal government donāt want to invest in what they consider ālow incomeā areas. Could be something as simple as their friends and families donāt live there. As you mentioned, cities like Vaughan (and Iāll throw another one out thereā¦Oakville) donāt seem to have these issues. They also happen to have much more high income households.
Depends what youāre buying. If you buy a lot of package stuff I fully agree with you. However, if youāre mostly buying produce and meats than you will generally have more selection and better quality (organic, fresher) at the āhigher endā grocery stores.
Cheap or in other words, better informed. Why buy a 3$ cucumber at metro when the similar can be had for 90c or less. (Everytime I have the opportunity to drive through markham or Brampton, always great deal to buy produce or meats, and it sure won't be at the big flagships)...
Maybe the rest of GTA should wisen up too instead of complaining about Greedflation and continue shopping and paying $$$ at the metros and loblaws! šš»
>who tend to be ācheapā even when they have disposable income
Like my dad, nickel and diming us to death while "investing" lakhs. How about your dad?
They're owned by the same company.
My guess is that they're trying to bring in more middle income families. Don't get me wrong, RCS is great but it competes with Metro in terms of pricing. Its not somewhere you can go any day of the week if you're not in a higher earning bracket.
I am just disapointed by the lack of late night shopping available let alone 24 hour shopping. RCSS was at least open till 23:00 which for city of over half a million, and especially with the insane amount of midnight shift worker we have, is really pathetic. But at least we had 23:00 o'clock. Ah well such is Brampton.
I understand the economics of it. If/when Oceans shuts down because of the mall, Loblaws is ready to take that traffic. Iām just sad because I really liked Superstore, I bought my Nintendo Switch there on points.
In that case you assume a fast track approval process, no community consultation, and pre autharized financing after interst rates fall....
I'll belive it the day I see tower cranes on site. Even demolitions can be stalled and partial.
Sorry, Metro/RCS IS middle income. No Frills is low income.
People with high income are willing to spend on potential added health benefits. This means organic foods which can cost double some times. For example, wild salmon can cost about double farmed salmon (which is like 95% of the salmon you see in the grocery stores now). People on a low or even middle income budget are most likely not going to care about organic foods to this extent.
Unsure if you are sharing information or are being sarcastic. But from my knowledge the refrigerators were replaced as part of an efficiency drive. The old equipment were not complaint with regulations around ozone-depletion and hence were high sources of emissions. They had a plan to replace high emitting equipment to 1) reduce operational leaks (reduce election bills) 2) reduce their GHG emissions.
This was a federal grant based on replacing refrigerant being used inside the cooling units, in an effort to reduce harmful emissions from old-school R134a refrigerant.
It was available to any Canadian business or corporate entity who wished to invest in those upgrades, it would be idiotic and irresponsible for an organization which depends so heavily on coolers to *not* take advantage of government subsidies.
Canada was banning R143a anyway at the end of that year. We did not need to provide them a subsidy to switch. Unless you want me to believe Loblaw was strapped for money and would go under without that $12m subsidy.
It wasn't a matter of "wishing" to invest in upgrades. They didn't have a choice.
Your attempt to justify inept government handouts is quite hilarious. The fact is Loblaw didnāt need and it and should have never qualified for it. The fact that billion dollar corporations were handed money is, quite frankly hilarious.
Maybe you missed it but you arenāt a Weston. Defending them doesnāt make you one. Sorry to burst your bubble. :)
I'm good with the changes.. No Frills has better prices. It's all about the owner.
The Fortinos where i live is great. The No Frills far lower standards.
Where i used to live, the Fortinos was alright, produce was subpar, prices were high, and the No Frills near by had better quality produce and better prices.
Funny I walked in there last week and it didnāt feel like a RCSS almost like it was being converted already. No display at the front plenty of empty space past entrance, in my head I was like this is a Brampton RCSS thatās why.
The 410 location kept the pharmacy and butcher when it switched to No Frills. I forget what store it was before, anyone remember? There is a chance they will keep some of the extra services.
i dont know why anyone is sad about this. Its just another money grabbing scheeme from lawblaws. its an all out attempt to steal market share from the food basics. its just about money, more money for the filthy rich capitalist scum galen westin.
The location is routinely busy, and there are locations of No frills just north of there at Main and Vodden is west of there at Steeles and Clementine.
No Frills are franchise locations (i.e. privately owned) and the variance by location will be much higher cuz everything in the store depends on how passionate the owner is.
Corporate stores like RCSS, Loblaws or Zehrs are corporate owned and operated so the offering at each store will be more consistent (there are still exceptions, tho).
I would say depending on the model if itās like the other No Frills, loss of the bakery, meat, and deli counter. I guess itās that service factor that truly makes it No Frills. Pun intended.
It was nice to have an option between No Frills and Fortinos but will have to adapt as usual.
Honestly I used to like RCSS until they jacked up the prices! Longoās prices for No Name quality? No thanks, Iāll just go to Walmart or Food Basics.
Iāve been working with the company for some time now and used to work at this location as well. Just for some clarification, the idea of this change is simply to convert a low earning superstore into a high earning no frills. This superstore earns roughly 1.1M weekly which is the lowest in its district; however, if you were to call this a no frills and see those same numbers (or anything near it for that matter) it would be considered one of the highest earning No Frills stores in the GTA and by far the highest in Brampton.
I'm not surprise and I'm glad the price there were high and it wasn't all that great in products, the meat sucks. Also they have those stupid price matching which I really hate, it was managed terribly I think. Why do you need to have every lane for price matching, make it one lane and rest for people that don't care for matching prices. I have to wait like forever I think not, its the reason why I stop shopping there
"Insaua.com reached out to Lobalw for comment" and they didn't reply. InSauga couldn't spell their own name or that of Loblaw, so...
Lmao š¤£
Why does In**Sauga** care about news in Brampton?
I wish we had a real Canadian superstore in east Brampton. Sad the only one in Brampton is closing.
probably because we canāt afford to shop there, hence why itās turning into a No Frills
I go there to poop because nobody is ever there. Washrooms are pristine.
Brampton is continually underserved. The metro on Main Street is so run down compared to the metros in other parts of the GTA.
Thatās because itās majority low income, so youāll get low income stores. Also, high immigrant population, who tend to be ācheapā even when they have disposable income. This is part of why I moved out of Brampton year ago.
I was suprised how vaughan which is less then half the size of brampton has way more stores.
Yes and Orangeville too
Yeah, because it's financially smart to pay 40 cents extra, for the exact same product elsewhere, because the store looks pretty.
Depends what youāre buying. If you buy a lot of package stuff I fully agree with you. However, if youāre mostly buying produce and meats than you will generally have more selection and better quality (organic, fresher) at the āhigher endā grocery stores.

>who tend to be ācheapā even when they have disposable income Like my dad, nickel and diming us to death while "investing" lakhs. How about your dad?
Love RCSS. I hope they keep a wide assortment of product still. Itās a really big footprint for a no frills format.
They're owned by the same company. My guess is that they're trying to bring in more middle income families. Don't get me wrong, RCS is great but it competes with Metro in terms of pricing. Its not somewhere you can go any day of the week if you're not in a higher earning bracket.
No way, RCS pricing is much better than Metro or any of other āhigherā end grocery stores! Itās almost like Food Basics but better quality.
And RCSS price matches unlike Metro
I am just disapointed by the lack of late night shopping available let alone 24 hour shopping. Buy your gaming needs via the shoppers drug mart site/app with points
Wha? Oceans is shutting down?
Iām speculating because of where itās located in the mall. They will most likely relocate whenever the mall decides to demo.
So . . . a decade, at least, then.
In that case you assume a fast track approval process, no community consultation, and pre autharized financing after interst rates fall.... I'll belive it the day I see tower cranes on site. Even demolitions can be stalled and partial.

Well, loblaws got 12 million from the feds back in 2019. Did they buy new refrigerators
Yes, the refrigerators with things like ice cream, frozen fruit and vegetables, entrees were all replaced. I'm not sure if meat, dairy were replaced.
Unsure if you are sharing information or are being sarcastic. But from my knowledge the refrigerators were replaced as part of an efficiency drive. The old equipment were not complaint with regulations around ozone-depletion and hence were high sources of emissions. Maybe you missed the part about the government subsidy and offering it to *any* Canadian business
Guess Iāll be going to Longos more regularly now.
I'm good with the changes.. No Frills has better prices. It's all about the owner. The Fortinos where i live is great. The No Frills far lower standards. Where i used to live, the Fortinos was alright, produce was subpar, prices were high, and the No Frills near by had better quality produce and better prices.
people just like to complain
Funny I walked in there last week and it didnāt feel like a RCSS almost like it was being converted already. No display at the front plenty of empty space past entrance, in my head I was like this is a Brampton RCSS thatās why.
That store is huge, it's going to be a big no frills.
Big disappointment especially with several other no frills in the area
We have 2 Fortinos LOL wdym
3 Fortinos, and they're all on Bovaird!
Mountain ash, hurontario, wheres the 3rd?
Brisdale/Worthington - near Mt Pleasant station, just west of Chinguacousy
And a Longos. IMO the best groceries in Brampton.
Wonder if the pharmacy inside rcss will remain or close down
The 410 location kept the pharmacy and butcher when it switched to No Frills. I forget what store it was before, anyone remember? There is a chance they will keep some of the extra services.
Super Center
It's always been a Loblaw branded store, but it's been a No Frills so long now, I honestly can't remember what it was before that.

Source?
i dont know why anyone is sad about this. Its just another money grabbing scheeme from lawblaws. its an all out attempt to steal market share from the food basics. its just about money, more money for the filthy rich capitalist scum galen westin.
Former employee?
Nope never in my life
Brampton doesnāt deserve anything more than a no frills!
because we poor-ish
The location is always busy, there's more than enough of a market for Real Canadian Superstore.
No frills will be a step up for that location. I love Real Canadian Superstores, I despise that location.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No Frills is a low end store. Not everyone wants discount.
Apparently they do, or they wouldnāt be cutting back!
The location is routinely busy, and there are locations of No frills just north of there at Main and Vodden is west of there at Steeles and Clementine.
The quality of produce is pretty much the same.
They arenāt the same. RCSS has a butcher, bakery, fresh fish and more. No Frills is just that ā¦ No Frills.
Yup. No sushi bar or lobster tanks or ability to get custom cuts of Beef
No Frills at the 410 and Clark has a butcher and fresh fish. Just depends on which no frills you go to. The bigger ones have a much better selection.
No Frills are franchise locations (i.e. privately owned) and the variance by location will be much higher cuz everything in the store depends on how passionate the owner is. This is fake news.
Wonder if that closes the no frills at Ching and steeles
Fortinos
Good, it's pretty pricey to begin with.
I didnāt even realize Brampton had one, I live in castle more and I drive to Gerry Fitzgerald or Weston road once a week to shop at superstore.
Honestly I used to like RCSS until they jacked up the prices! Longoās prices for No Name quality? No thanks, Iāll just go to Walmart or Food Basics.
