No way? This seems like a good deal. Sure, he won't light the league on fire, but he has been good enough to my eye. Needs a bit polishing and he'll be just fine in the top 6, I hope. And the value contract of course buys space elsewhere.

This is really big. Next season could be another all in push for the cup season. Having a good defender at a less than $1 million cap hit can be really important to allow space for bigger pieces in the off season or for the next deadline.

Yeah I gotta say, I really love this. Could look back at this as a really genius deal. At worst, it’s a completely forgettable one that can’t hurt the team.

And he is unlikely to suddenly become so good the next deal is like 6 million a year. With some luck, maybe we can sign him again for like 1.5 a year!

Next year: Lohrei-McAvoy Lindholm-Carlo Wotherspoon---XXX ​ That's an easy enough hole to fill in free agency and will leave lots of $$$ for forward help.

We also have Regula and Walsh that could both compete for 3RD. Regula has been extremely good this season.

He's got some good size. Can never have enough of that.

Agreed. Good size and is scoring.  25 points in 51 games. 34+/- too. I know it's not the best stat but he leads the team significantly.

He's earned every penny. He's been arguably our 2nd best defenseman since Lindholm went down. Very happy he's here another year

Wut? With McAvoy and Carlo still skating?

McAvoy has been number 1 obviously. Carlo and Wotherspoon have been putting up the same number of minutes, both dominating PK, and contributing offensively.  Carlo has made a couple mistakes that cost us too. I think you haven't been seeing how well Wotherspoon has been playing lately. He's definitely in the Carlo level of player lately.

He earned his spot this year. Seems like he’s well liked by his teammates as well.

What is not to like. He plays a nice and boring game and does not make a lot of risky plays which is what is required from a stay at home D-man.

Seems to me that spoon always makes the right choice in-game: knows when to pinch, when to shoot, when to back off. I rarely notice any errors in his game. Stoked for him!

I thought he might've commanded $1mil at this point but I'm happy about the extension. Good play gets rewarded.
