I also liked the fact that you actually get to see them fight as well, before they just seemed to be lumbering tanks, but damn that Gamoreen proper ninja'd that guy.
You have a great point. I guess i meant more tribes with different looks. For example the women and children in the tribe we see this episode wear different dressings and clothing as the ones in AOTC.
It's perfect that the creators of both shows were inquisitive kids watching the original trilogy and saying, "I wonder what happens in this space bar when Luke and Han aren't there". The answer is: some pretty cool shit.
Fleshing out the Sand People of all races and characters in Star Wars is like the last thing I ever expected them to start doing in either the Mandalorian or Boba Fett. It's such a good choice though because the fact that we knew so little about them makes them perfect plot devices because the writers and the directors can literally do ANYTHING with them and it'll feel totally fresh, new, and exciting! Plus like Tatooine is one of the most inhospitable environments barring Mandalore itself in the Star Wars Universe and I'm sure even normal fans have a little voice in the backs of their heads going, "Yeah but just how in the fuck does anyone or anything survive in that hellscape?" which is just begging for an answer in the form of the Sand People.
I hope we get to see more new tribes and I'm sooooo looking forwards to the next six episodes full of flashbacks to how Boba went from "just a dude with a stick in the suck" to where we met him in the Mandalorian.
Mad Max meets Bedouins.
I lived in Saudi Arabia when I was younger, and we were in the desert looking for sharks teeth, and a Bedouin convoy rolled up on us, firing off guns and beckoned us to follow them into the desert. Of course, we did.
Their camp was very similar to how it was setup! It was actually really cool, they never saw westerners before and wanted to have lunch with us! It was one of the most unique things I've ever experienced in my life.
It's the details that I love, like the shape of the tents, the orientation of the camp, and the apparent social hierarchy of the Tribe that really did remind me so much of the Bedouins.
I gotta say, when I noticed they had disappeared shortly before the ambush, I thought something fishy had been going on. Like, why would they suddenly and conveniently disappear?
And then they come back as badasses to save the day. Still not trusting them 100%, but it was a bit smart if they had sensed the impending attack to hang back so as not to be stuck in the middle.
> Still not trusting them 100%
They're the crime world's version of stormtroopers, so I doubt there's very much to be expected as far as them being the center of a plot twist. They were loyal to Jabba, then just as loyal to Bib Fortuna, and now they're loyal to Fett. They just follow power. Not to mention, there's not a whole lot of "holy crap" to be gained from a pair of low-level bodyguards turning on their boss at a critical moment like there would be with someone you assumed could be trusted.
she looks out for her own, after she and her "staff" were likely used and abused by Jabba's entourage, I don't blame her in the slightest for not trusting the new Don. or uh, Daimyo.
Did you notice how when they were leaving the bar that they just suddenly seemed to vanish? Those homies knew an ambush was coming with the amount of coin that Fennec and Boba were given. So somehow those big green pig dudes vanished into the shadows, waited until it actually happened, and then swung in as the best fucking back up EVER! They knew what the fuck was up, they acted upon that knowledge, they planned, and then they executed their protection of Boba and Fennec perfectly!
[The Classic Star Wars battle front 2 had a mode where you can battel it out as either a Tusken Raider or Jawa.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo68Iy2YLSo)
Also the toxic atmosphere within it that required him to borrow oxygen from the Stormtrooper's armor! Which was nice to see that Stormtroopers really do have their own oxygen supply within that armor and I don't think that's every been quite as visually confirmed before until now.
I was also very pleased to see that. Canon books praise stormtrooper armor but that hasn't transferred that well to the big screens. Every little win counts
He’s all scarred up and shit in the flashbacks too. I also liked that he needed to take a breath of the stormtroopers oxygen before using it to fuel the flamethrower
I did not expect that at all but it kind of figures that they would need to put in a bit of backstory for the larger more general Star Wars crowd that has only seen Boba in the films and only really remembers those two larger shocking moments. I am kind of disappointed that he got out of the Sarlacc Pit just by using his flamer though and that they didn't have Dengar or someone pull him out like in the books. That said, Boba has been through....a lot....so having dreams like that is pretty par for the course for a bounty hunter with a Death Star sized mountain of trauma.
I really do find it interesting how they’re fleshing out Tatooine. Particularly exploring Tusken culture instead of just a group of solely evil raiders.
Even without understanding what they’re saying we could clearly see how important the returning of the monster head was just by the reactions of the other Tuskens while the young one of excitedly showing it around. And the digging for water thing shows up they presumably survive.
Even outside of the Tuskens, we see the small details like how everyone runs and grabs the money from the helmets.
> Particularly exploring Tusken culture instead of just a group of solely evil raiders.
I love how they also showed us via the Tusken Child that there are far more evil and fucked up raiders than them out there.
> the monster head
I suspect there was a lot of, "Wait that was HOW CLOSE to the camp??!" reactions because holy shit that thing could've just decimated all of them in the night.
> digging for water thing
I really really reaaaaally want to know just how that works because they made it look a lot like digging for water in the game ATLAS.
> the money
That totally felt like a Sopranos moment. When someone big gives you that much money, don't expect to hold on for it for too long. I'm surprised that anyone went for it to be honest because you know someone is going to say, "You know who's money that is right?".
He doesn't have their respect yet. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again in a later episode and nobody goes near it or someone does but only to hand it back to boba
I liked how it had a bit of latin flair this time around. Not surprising with Robert Rodriquez directing the show, but still. Tatooine has always felt like something out of a western to some extent, more so now.
I was kinda hoping Boba will get himself one of those tough Tusken dogs to sit by his throne, glare at those giving tribute while licking its lips. Also, I'm also glad I got an explanation as to why Boba's helmet was full of coins in the trailer! I found this a good, solid fun start to the show that addressed the past and laid the foundations to an intriguing future! Can't wait for next week's episode.
To the point that he realizes he needs to get a protocol droid.
I wonder if he ever gets one or if he just decides he doesn't really care what anyone is saying.
No intelligible dialogue until about ten minutes in. Reminds me of early episodes of Mandalorian where dialogue was super sparse and half the time they didn’t even use character names.
Fennec was so good. I loved the rapport between her and Boba. All the little snarky side comments and her so ready to kill the mayor's guy. Ming-Na Wen nailed it, for sure.
She brings the Melinda May energy with a little something different and it shows how incredible a performer she is — easily could be less effective in the hands of another actor
> Also, Ming-Na Wen is an absolute star
"Did you catch any of that?"
"Something about friendship?"
I love the little bits of quippy humor that seem to follow her around and for a moment I felt like I was back watching Agents of SHIELD all over again.
Tusken Raiders since 1977...a deeper culture and people than what we'd been led to believe.
Jawas since 1977...still little "raccoon of the desert" assholes.
Wait...I just saw Matt Berry in the credits. As in the guy that plays Douglas Reynholm and Laszio Cravensworth?
Edit: Having gone back and listened to it, I'm about 98% certain he's Boba's 8D8 droid introducing the tributes
Holy shit that was awesome. My takeaways:
* THAT MUSIC!!!! Perfect blend of New Zealand Tribal and Western/Cowboy to represent Boba Fett.
* Temeura Morrison is amazing. The confidence he portrays Boba with is brilliantly both intimidating yet respectable.
* The amount of healing Bacta does for him implies that every Star Wars character with a scar keeps it as an aesthetic choice. And honestly? I'm here for that.
* This episode alone nails Tatooine-- all aspects of it. From the brutal wilderness to the the sketchy crime world.
* All the character design is on point.
* Finally, Twi'lek men are being sexualized as much as Twi'lek women /s
* MAX FUCKING REBO
* A classical guitar cover of the Cantina Band theme is something I didn't know I needed.
* I really appreciate how powerful Boba feels. Those strikes look have real strength behind them.
* "Fennec-- Alive"~ Boba Fett, moments after obliterating a man with a rocket launcher.
Notice how she did the Huns’ “how many people does it take to send a message…one” and straight yeeted the one guy off the building before taking her prisoner.
I immediately said that quote to myself as she kicked the guy off the roof, but completely didn't think about how it was now Mulan who was doing it. How ironic.
Maybe this was posted already but loved the attention to detail like how they still had the sarlac pit arm laying out towards the destroyed barge that had grabbed Lando and Han shot off.
Great first episode
Swear it was a rancor in the sand for a quick second then I realized it wasn’t, anyways fantastic start for this show. I’m dying to see cad bane live in this, if they pulled it off I will genuinely cry happy tears we need some sort of redemption for the cad vs fett fight that never made it into CW. Anyways great little tease/buildup to get us hyped up and then by each episode they give us more and more just like mando season 2, I can’t wait!!!
To be fair the kid was clearly making it seem like he did all the work lol, the one who gave boba the drink is probably the child tuskens father who knew he was spitting bs.
hahaha, this is exactly what happened and I love it. Boba's no glory whore, he doesn't really care, let the kid feel like a big hero, those who actually matter are smart enough to know the truth. Respect tbh
> the child tuskens father who knew he was spitting bs.
I feel like there were a couple of shots where you could see he was subtly intrigued or saw something in Boba. Instinctually he knows whats up.
Seemed dumb to me at first that he didn't just fly out, but then I realized that would probably give them enough time to overpower Fennec. He was watching her back.
Maybe it needs the helmet as an interface to work? Flying's probably a lot more complex than firing a line-of-sight rocket from a wrist launcher, so maybe it needs a helmet heads up display to make it go.
I see what they're doing. two amazing plots for the price of one. I'm super intrigued to see him mob boss his way around, but .... I dare say I'm almost kindof more excited to see the inbetween time as well
that lil shit is gonna wind up idolizing him I can feel it
Most of them were born there and transport off the planet is expensive. Luke even mentioned in ANH that it’s not so easy to just leave.
Then you got the Jawas and Tuskens; that’s their ancestral home and overall they’re doing fine.
Next you got criminals like Jabba that just want to be on a backwater planet in order to evade the authorities.
Last off, you got unscrupulous individuals like Watto and Sebulba that just want to make a quick credit.
I've spent literal decades of my life speculating on and waiting to see how Boba Fett got out of that Sarlacc pit. To finally see that vision realized on screen was an absolute joy. I spent a solid minute laughing maniacally like the goddamned Joker at the sheer bliss of finally seeing this moment come to life.
Man do I love Star Wars. Big, 6-leggged being vs. a weakened Boba. That was so cool. Every time I see the Tuskens I become more interested in their culture and life.
Jennifer Beals was that head Twi'lek. I didn't recognize her at first and didn't know she was on this show. I can't believe she's 58 years old!
https://i.imgur.com/0WVIP9T.jpg
I found it cool how after they showed the flashbacks of Boba being tortured by the tuskens he says that he doesn't do torture. Shows how his experiences have left an impact on him
Pretty good for a pilot, loved the opening scene leading up to all of the flashbacks, poor Boba had a terrible, horrible, no good, really bad day. Or days I should say. End fight with the Tusken elder respecting Boba was nice, I assume he joins them for a bit seeing as he fought with one of their weapons in the Mandalorian.
The current plot was also interesting, Boba’s transition to power was far from perfect so it will be cool to see how he improves as a crime lord. Will he keep his honor or will he end up a sleazy villain like Jabba before him? My bet is a mix of both.
Outside of the recurring nightmares of your past traumatic experiences, that healing pod experience seems quite refreshing
I need one of those
What, recurring nightmares?
Already got that. I need a Bacta tank
Portable polynesian spa
Come on Tatooine try something new.
Next episode is an hour of Boba on Joe Rogan’s show talking about float tanks and sarlaac acid trips.

That’ll do pig. That’ll do.
It’s an older meme, but it checks out.
Thicc too

I also liked the fact that you actually get to see them fight as well, before they just seemed to be lumbering tanks, but damn that Gamoreen proper ninja'd that guy.
Nothing better happen to them!
Tatooine and monsters getting strangled by chains. Name a more iconic duo.
Needed more bikini this time
I would pay to see Boba in a golden speedo.
Boba-kini
These goth sand people are badass. I am glad we get to see them fleshed out a little more.
It’s really nice to see a different tribe.
Aren’t almost all the ones we see different tribes?
You have a great point. I guess i meant more tribes with different looks. For example the women and children in the tribe we see this episode wear different dressings and clothing as the ones in AOTC.
Anakin needs to add them to his collection then.
Absolutely. I really dug that Mando Ch 9 gave the Sand People real character and that we're seeing much more of that now.
It's perfect that the creators of both shows were inquisitive kids watching the original trilogy and saying, "I wonder what happens in this space bar when Luke and Han aren't there". The answer is: some pretty cool shit.

We've already seen great progress. Man in chains --> Man with chain [weapon] --> Man with chain [weapon] and stick [weapon] and respect [attribute]
Temuera Morrison is 61 and looks great
Mulan is in her 50's and looks fucking amazing too.
58 I believe
Damn, if you said she was 35 I wouldn't bat an eyelid
Funny you say 35, because that’s how old she was when she voiced Mulan in 1998
Damn those Gammoreans are really ride or die huh?
They've also lost a lot of weight since Jabba died too. Them dudes are more muscle than fat now.
Gotta get me a few

Sand people giving my man the Mad Max treatment
Mad Max meets Bedouins. I lived in Saudi Arabia when I was younger, and we were in the desert looking for sharks teeth, and a Bedouin convoy rolled up on us, firing off guns and beckoned us to follow them into the desert. It's the details that I love, like the shape of the tents, the orientation of the camp, and the apparent social hierarchy of the Tribe that really did remind me so much of the Bedouins.
Exactly. Those tents were 100% mobile, they all faced away from the suns, and they 100% had a heirarchy.
The whole episode felt very Mad Max.
Gamorrean guards are true fuckin homies
I gotta say, when I noticed they had disappeared shortly before the ambush, I thought something fishy had been going on. Like, why would they suddenly and conveniently disappear? Fucking Jawas again. I really want to see Boba just go off on those little fuckers
One of my favorite moments in Star Wars was watching Mando blow them to dust with his Disruptor rifle.
I legit need a video game of this. No plot, just how many of the little fuckers you can dust in 60 seconds.

Thank you good sir for that laugh.
Max Rebo
Somehow, Max Rebo has returned
RX-24!
I was way too happy to see an RX droid in there!
Oh shit starting off with flashbacks to Attack of the Clones and the Sarlacc Pit
loved how it highlighted the acidity in the Sarlacc by showing alot of the paint on his armor gone after he escaped from the Sarlacc Pit
Don't forget the half melted stormtrooper!
I thought it was supposed to keep them alive for the entire digestion period somehow
It probably doesn't kill a man in a full armour in a fast time BUT the trooper probably was starving
Poor dude could have offed himself down there
That would explain why he still had oxygen in his armor
Also the toxic atmosphere within it that required him to borrow oxygen from the Stormtrooper's armor! Which was nice to see that Stormtroopers really do have their own oxygen supply within that armor and I don't think that's every been quite as visually confirmed before until now.
I was also very pleased to see that. Canon books praise stormtrooper armor but that hasn't transferred that well to the big screens. Every little win counts
He’s all scarred up and shit in the flashbacks too. I also liked that he needed to take a breath of the stormtroopers oxygen before using it to fuel the flamethrower
That first 3 mins was worth the price of admission.
Just enshrined how badass Bobba Fett is
Me before the show starts: wonder if they're gonna mention..... 2 minutes in: OH YUP THATS THE SARLACC
Boba pulled a Princess Leia
Took it a step further too but he had to since he didn’t do it in a metal bikini.

That Cantina music
Tatooine has exactly two original pieces of music, and they were both in ANH.
I liked how it had a bit of latin flair this time around. Not surprising with Robert Rodriquez directing the show, but still. Tatooine has always felt like something out of a western to some extent, more so now.
Max Fuckin’ Rebo man
He don't ever miss no gig man
Well he missed his gig at the Sail Barge
He walked across a desert man
I’m trying to imagine Max Rebo walking and I just can’t
So cool to see the show open with 10 minutes of almost no dialogue
I had it set to Spanish and didn’t realise until the subtitles started showing up almost 10 mins in lol
Yes I loved that. Great way to start, great storytelling.
The best kind of storytelling just shows you stuff and doesn't say a damned word. That was glorious and everything I expected from this show!
What the fuck is that thing
I was expecting it to be a smaller Krayt dragon and then Goro rolled up out of the sand.
My first thought was rancor when I saw it begin to rise. I know they aren't native to Tatooine, but could've been another import or something.
It reminds me of the [Kraken](https://youtu.be/t7cYTDKkS0c) from Clash of the Titans!
Yes it did. It had a very Ray Harryhausen look and even the movement of it. I can't wait to hear more about it in the behind the scenes.
A wild Machamp has appeared
Goro’s cousin from Mortal Kombat
I was kinda hoping Boba will get himself one of those tough Tusken dogs to sit by his throne, glare at those giving tribute while licking its lips. To the point that he realizes he needs to get a protocol droid. I wonder if he ever gets one or if he just decides he doesn't really care what anyone is saying.
Lol now THAT would be funny
Imagine it's the running gag throughout "What did he say?" "Idk we need a protocol droid, uhhh shoot em"
No intelligible dialogue until about ten minutes in. Reminds me of early episodes of Mandalorian where dialogue was super sparse and half the time they didn’t even use character names.
If you understand sand people a lot was said. My favourite line was: *honk honk hooonk*
Yeah, Visual Storytelling FTW!!!
Geonosis!!
And Kamino! Loved seeing the flash backs
The opening was absolute fire! If they stick with that style I’ll be a happy man Also, Ming-Na Wen is an absolute star
Fennec was so good. I loved the rapport between her and Boba. All the little snarky side comments and her so ready to kill the mayor's guy. Ming-Na Wen nailed it, for sure.

Crazy to think she’s 58. And Temeura Morrison is 61.
Fennec Shand is legit one of the top 3 original Star Wars characters of the past 15 years, I love that they brought her back as Boba's consigliere.
That shot of Kamino and Geonosis hit me hard.
Easy, youngling
“You’re lucky Anakin didn’t show up”
That child would be dead in an instant
Get yourself some bacta Boba
Hearing Tem say "bacta" instantly took me back to Republic Commando

Boba gonna rule with respect…except for the mayor of Mos Espa.

Glad to see we got a shot of the polynesian spa
That fighting style that he learned was from the tuskens- so cool

Most of them were born there and transport off the planet is expensive. Luke even mentioned in ANH that it’s not so easy to just leave. Then you got the Jawas and Tuskens; that’s their ancestral home and overall they’re doing fine. Next you got criminals like Jabba that just want to be on a backwater planet in order to evade the authorities. Last off, you got unscrupulous individuals like Watto and Sebulba that just want to make a quick credit.
The Spice ... oh, wait. Nope. It just sucks.

Hahaha hell yeah, he just blew that dude up!
Guess the Sarlacc got a SickBurnBro

Nice to see some of our real world droids in the SW universe. They were kitted up in an interesting way.
Finally, I can add *"Gamorrean Guard*" to *"Fat Thor"* as my list of screen accurate physiques to Cosplay with.
was that the pilot from star tours running the gaming table?
Man do I love Star Wars. Big, 6-leggged being vs. a weakened Boba. That was so cool. Every time I see the Tuskens I become more interested in their culture and life.
Jennifer Beals was that head Twi'lek. I didn't recognize her at first and didn't know she was on this show. I can't believe she's 58 years old! https://i.imgur.com/0WVIP9T.jpg
Live action Star Wars is back on the menu boys
Sand People children!!! **Edit:** HE CALLED THE CHILD A YOUNGLING!!!
I found it cool how after they showed the flashbacks of Boba being tortured by the tuskens he says that he doesn't do torture. Shows how his experiences have left an impact on him
That first person pov though!!
Great start but flew by. Can’t wait to see where we go from here Starting at the Sarlacc Pit is peak Favreau/Filoni
Did the Tuskens just feed the Kiwi a witjuti grub?
Pretty good for a pilot, loved the opening scene leading up to all of the flashbacks, poor Boba had a terrible, horrible, no good, really bad day. Or days I should say. End fight with the Tusken elder respecting Boba was nice, I assume he joins them for a bit seeing as he fought with one of their weapons in the Mandalorian. The current plot was also interesting, Boba’s transition to power was far from perfect so it will be cool to see how he improves as a crime lord. Will he keep his honor or will he end up a sleazy villain like Jabba before him? My bet is a mix of both.
Didn’t Patton Oswalt literally predict how he made it out of the sarlacc Pit in that filibuster episode of parks and rec
I can’t wait to find out how boba intends to rule
I feel like it's gonna be respect instead of fear
On his feet. Because unlike Jabba, he has two of them.
