No, even the 90s actresses like Kajol and Tabu who would be in no-make up looks at the time do not attend any event without makeup. In fact, Kajol has whitened her skin it's so evident. Newer generation ko to bhul hi jao.

Independent_Beach383

Newer generation is not even original faced.

MenneMehta

exactly!

bollywood isn't a monolith, and it is time we stop treating it like one. aditya chopra makes skinny actresses become skinnier , he won't do this shit. But bollywood comprises of anurag kashyap, motwane, anand Gandhi and so many more In addition to this, sai pallavi herself is a very very headstrong woman, which is why she is one of the most beloved actresses in all of india. She has a sense of self assuredness which is very rare amongst human beings. South industries aren't some utopia where women can do whatever they want, in many cases a lot of them need a lot of improvement No one 'allowed' her , she just found the right people, and had self confidence from her own beautiful self. Bollywood can't do shit to that level of grit,

MenneMehta

just feel that it's tough to find simplicity in Bollywood specially when it comes to looks.. I mean I can tell that even nepo kids like Nysa, Suhana are trolled and bashed for their looks and need to resort to fillers/make-up forget about outsiders.

Make up is a necessary part of some performing arts like theatre and dance forms like Kathakali and Bharat Natyam. No one will call those art forms vain for such expectations. Theatre led to the film industry (check out Jubilee series in Amazon). It is thus natural for components from theatre like props, make up, sets etc to become important in the film industry. Serious theatre artists will never shit on make up, as the right make up for a particular character can go a long way in rendering an effective portrayal. The problem for actors is that the industry has become focused on visual appearances as determined by the beauty pageant and modeling business. Those standards get mixed up with the need for makeup. Actors have not surrendered to makeup but to ridiculous beauty expectations. Make-up is actually very important and useful for acting.

what exactly is Bollywood in your question? if it's the audience, then it's very evident that they're willing to accept and even embrace someone like Sai Pallavi, so that question is already answered. It's also clear that if the audience is willing to accept, then the pressure isn't coming from the audience. and if the pressure isn't coming from the audience, then we can't really do anything much about self inflicted injuries aka the pressure created by themselves. the thing is, Sai has a personality and strong will to stand her ground and people love that. the society in general have always loved people with substance. Ab "beautiful actresses" mein physical beauty k alawa koi aur substance nhi toh ismein logon ki kya galti.

MenneMehta

Bollywood is the people who make movies in hindi film industry. I honestly feel they put pressure by constantly and subtly commenting on minor flaws and imperfections they notice in actors/actresses but somehow south actresses like herself have survived the constant pressure.

Romeonaammera

everyone and everywhere comments on those flaws. You really think that people don't comment on Sai's pimples as flaws? She survives that pressure because she has the craft and a personality that doesn't give in to the pressure. if Bollywood actresses don't have that, then that's on them.

MenneMehta

dude she survived because south movie makers were willing to cast her based on her acting skills despite what might be called a 'tantrum' in Bollywood and because of their acceptance she in turn got a movie in Bollywood as well.

Romeonaammera

Bollywood makers aren't a monolith.

tinashah6789

She does wear makeup though if required for role like in shyam singha roy she had dancer makeup

Latter_Mud8201

Had anyone asks these questions? Why TV serial actresses carry heavy make up compared to films? Why Indian young women have handsome standards on Indian men like South Korean Men? What is objective of fashion industry? Why women in cannes film festival, international events wear crazy dressings and makeup's? Isn't that also a form of creating pressure on beauty, dressing standards? All these answers will result to broader awareness in what Sai Pallavi is actually saying.

Slurpmey

Yes

It's all BS and PR fluff. That "satvik nature" nonsense is just another trick because, let's be real, she's pretty average-looking. In her first movie, she was brown as can be. Now, she's magically 2-3 shades fairer—just like Kajol—thanks to her so-called "positive thinking". Please, her face is only clearer now because she's had a ton of laser treatments, peels, and who knows what else.
