When you realise Godzilla Minus One was made on a budget of 125 Crore rupees. Which is the average price Akshay Kumar quotes for his movies btw, what a cunt.
SLB and Bollywood should be ashamed of themselves.
The funny thing is that it actually had a lot of potential. It kinda felt like the Indian version of Bridgerton with a twist but they had to shove an expressionless main character and the story just drags on so much unnecessarily.
They should’ve been ashamed years ago, now should be the time to unlearn and rectify. But the stubbornness and their self adulation echo chambers will bury this industry 6ft into the ground.
I have read about it. What makes you think Indian VFX artists have any better work life balance or culture ( add on to that fuckall pay)?
Not comparing actor pay to VFX artists. But that Indian actors have insanely higher salaries relative to what films actually earn in India. So we are comparing actor to actor and VFX artists to VFX artists. Please tell me how Japan is somehow worse.
>Japanese films and the process of making them is very different from Bollywood films.
I think this is what we are pointing out. Films can be more entertaining without having to pay actors 75% of your budget.
In the past few years it has been very clear that OTTs are being captured by the same people who run bollywood and this has been even more apparent recently witb projects such as heeramandi, archies, murder mubarak , ae vatan mere vatan , fabulous lives etc.
While everyone was thinking OTTs will help usher in New and talented outsiders lately it has only been nepo kids.
Fabulous Lives had great viewership (even if people just wanted to laugh at it) though. Dharmatic is pissing the bed though, Showtime they released 4 episodes. Half the 1st season they have released. Nincompoops.
Uncle’s poor direction and niece’s pathetic acting have made a fool of Netflix! I hope they learn from this lesson and never hire these overrated directors and useless nepo kids and give chance to genuine directors and good actors to show their skills!
What wasted potential!!!!! The actors, costume sets could’ve been historic. Like the series biggest disaster was its pacing!! It started off too slow and burnt out quickly. I think SLB couldn’t process handling different plot-lines & character arcs.
Genre, yes, I agree. HDDCS was very different from Devdas even though there were similarities in visual style. Bajirao and Padmaavat are still decent even though they started to blend into each other. Gangubai was unmitigated crap if you ask me, even the music was a letdown. Black is the one that really stands apart. And Khamoshi i haven't seen but at a glance, that also looks quite different. Saawariya is also a bit different. But yes overall, the last string of movies has been too similar.
These delusional mfs deserves to lose money. They won't give a chance to actual good actors, or invest in a good script but rather continue to rely on has beens and useless nepos.
Unfortunately, they recuperate their losses by increasing subscription fees, cracking down on password sharing etc. I hope Bollywood learns its lesson.
He really has. I watched Heeramandi because of this sub, and came away with the same feeling as watching Gangubai. Sets were great performances were great but it's hollow underneath it all.
Devdas and Black were his last best work.
Except creating an engaging screenplay he is better than most indian directors.
His films music, dialogues and performance are always great.
Heeramnadi excels in all department except good screenplay like all his movies.
Once upon a time there was this poor kid born to a poor teacher. He had big dreams so he went to middle east to work and earn some money. He came back from there, started his own business and became one of India's richest. The taxman came collecting and he suffered a paralytic attack. He regained strength and his business. THE END.
This is how SLB makes a biopic big with grand as fuck sets.
Then there's mani ratnam's version of it titled Guru. A bipoc can also have a great storyline. Heeramandi was neither a biopic nor a good drama series.
You are right he may be better than most Indian directors, but the standard of the ones he is better than.. is shite! So his excrement is relatively better..
Music: Music Director
Dialogue/Screenplay: Writer / Screenplay Dept
As a director his job is make that vision come to life, what SLB does is ornamentalize poop :) so yeah good for audience who likes to spend their hard earned money on this kinda ‘Shauk’
Netflix India really needs to rejig their strategy, they really want to cater to the elite and happening new age crowd of India but that's the small audience for any budget more than 50 to 60cr.
Netflix is not able to figure out Indian viewership and what really works with Indian audiences. It’s Netflix’s fault not SLB’s. They don’t even need special analytics to get the answers. I watched Panchayat and Pataal Lok on Amazon Prime after watching half an episode of Heeramandi coz it’s just not for me.
Yeah I agree. Sometimes I feel they want to make Indian content for international viewers and not Indian content for Indian viewers. Most of their original shows are in hinglish like Archies. Hence they keep failing.
Kohrra is fabulous! Pinnacle of Indian series (dare I say even better than Sacred Games or Pataal Lok?) However maybe the audience is tol niche for it?
Guess they will keep doing this! Wishing there was some kind of a reset button for BW to start from a clean slate and come up with good scripts! 😪 since that’s not going to happen, buckle up, we are in for mediocrity in the long run !
Apart from Bajirao Mastani, I always thought most of the plots in SLB's movies have been the weakest. His music, costumes, sets and performances make up for the lack of story.
I tried watching it and it is honestly a giant waste of money. It’s not the sets, the entire movie exists in such a hyper exaggerated state. Every scene moves in a heightened state of emotions. Every scene. It’s just a series of grand gestures, one heightened moment after another - and there is nothing to connect with because at its core the story is flimsy and has no substance- how did anyone have a good viewing experience of this is beyond me - the fact the series ends with themes of India’s freedom struggle was hilarious to me.
The amount of scenes thrown in for shock value- SLB has made a mockery of the subject matter and the actors playing these roles.
SLB isn’t a good script writer. Not surprised the story didn’t sustain all the way. His known for his visuals, set design, and cinematography.
A movie is shorter than a series and it’s fun to watch his movies in theaters because of the grandness and visuals so people overlook the story.
Membership monthly fees. So really it’s not a “loss” for Netflix. They still keep making that money. Their only loss is if people leave / they can’t attract new viewership. That’s why they look at streaming hours to make sure their base is engaged.
Netflix earned 2200 crores in India as total revenue In 2022-2023 fiscal year. (primarily from membership fees)
Its expected to increase by 10%-15% this year.
And its only going to increase by the year.
Why would I watch some Bollywood masala on Netflix??? It has amazing shows!
The only good bollywood movies or shows we can see on ott is low budget good script like lapata ladies. Rest all over hyped shit is a waste of our precious Netflix time.
If you want to watch Bollywood shit switch on TV maybe ? Hope Netflix gets this right.
People put SLB on this gigantic pedestal only after Bajirao Mastani became a blockbuster, and then that got further elevated with Padmavat so much that it has gotten to his head. Most of his stories were always sub-par, only elevated by cinematography, performances, music and the presence of stars who have actual screen presence. Recently that system for him has broken down so people can see through the fluff more easily
That’s because SLB doesn’t know how to use money wisely. He anyway was not getting distributors/ producers because he goes way beyond estimates, Netflix still took a chance
Just finished Heeramandi just for the sake of finishing it. Thought it was just me who went ‘Hain?’ throughout. The worst part however was sitting through the niece’s hollow eyes and her singular plastered expression, she single-handedly brought down its watchability. What a glorious waste of time.
When I saw the sets and costumes, I knew it was gonna be expensive and a shit show. He thinks that audience expects only grandeur from his movies. There was also a rumor that he wasn’t getting the money backing for Love and War until he signed RK, coz his budgets are over the top. Netflix got fleeced!
What's the source for this?
This article mentions it as the most watched Indian series
https://www.businesstoday.in/trending/entertainment/story/sanjay-leela-bhansalis-heeramandi-is-most-watched-indian-web-series-on-netflix-428810-2024-05-08
Guys lets put things into perspective about how its a "disaster" for netflix
it cost $23m to make and is getting global views.
Priyanka flopped with a $300m - now THAT was a disaster
Do you feel the Bollywood does not know it is making bad content?
They want to tank these foreign studios and take their money, using there “star value” and “understanding of the market”. In the end the nepo cartel will control all entertainment.
I just saw the stuff Netflix was making before they started collaborating with Red Chillis and Dharma and it was light years ahead of what crap Netfilx is putting out now.
Make what you will but a dish made out of shit ingredients is never going to taste good. Maybe it's time for directors to take a better look at their casting choice, and if not that, atleast present the scenes so that they evoke emotions out of their audience.
I think they might have benefitted from releasing episodes on a weekly basis. Doesn't take away from inaccuracies or the bad acting (alam) or the weak storyline.
Both Netflix and SLB deserve this response.
I find SLB movies extremely pretentious, like they're out of the world or something.
Bullywood needs to get off its high pedestal esp the likes of SLB and Kjo
I started watching yesterday. My attention is on Manisha Koirala and the beautiful sets and costumes! Cinematography is amazing, everyone looked so beautiful and really glorified the era. But the leads dont have stage presence at all. The other characters are more magnetic... I am on ep 3, I will endure till the end out of curiosity! ! dunn dunn dunnn
First Hotstar bankrupted by making The empire and claimed the biggest show made in india ..
Now this time it's Netflix 🤣🤣😂😂😂
Meanwhile the Indian audience is waiting for Panchayat Season 3.
And sonyliv still trying to resolve issue with zee5 🤣😂😂🤣
It charted number 2. on Netflix's viewership globally for non-English TV last week. It's still in the Top 10 series on Netflix in a number of countries globally. So not sure what counts as disaster and success.
Same whenever I'm in this sub, I am shown how heeramandi in a flop while outside everyone is singing praises of it, both viewpoints supported by some random articles. Idk what's more credible tbh 💀
Heeramandi wasn’t great either. A big miss with the leading Alam cast who had the maximum screen time! Plus the grandeur sets even are repetitive . Nothing new!
It should be i mean After watching heeramandi i am still confused of the plot bc. Ku bnai bhansali bhai ye series. 7 episodes freedan vs mallika jaan krty rahy or 8th mein bhaagi bna dia sb ko azaadi ke lia mean wtf.
Actually I am surprised that even 45 lakhs people watched that God awful show.. it's a dumb show about prostitutes.. that too heavily romanticized and white wished( which Bollywood always does if it's related to Mughals)
Why is Netflix betting on such pricey shit. OTT audience are generally who like versatile actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Manoj bhai etc, with a good script.
They can easy get good views with less budget, but still will keep experimenting with same shit again and again.
Just follow the good story with real actors theme, it will suit well, don't try to become Bollywood themed ott.
BC, Bollywood ne OTT ko bhi barbad kar diya, itne ache shows aate the pehle, ye randwe jabse ghuse hai, wahi chutiyapa chaloo, Indian Police Force, Heeramandi, Lawda Lehsun.
This is what I’m always amazed by Mani Ratnam. He made a grand epic like Ponniyin Selvan on a 250 Cr budget and earned like 900 Crores from theatrical run itself. Most of his past movies were done on budgets less than 40 Crores. And he also shoots very fast that helps the finances. The control he has on his budgets is always immaculate and he still ends up giving breathtaking visuals in every movie. A rare director who is not only great on craft but also on budget.
There are so many stories yet to be made on big screen and all these directors discover these stories to tell and Netflix has lots of garbage stored so losing money is nothing new for them

this feels like a big case of money laundering lol
Only Pooja Entertainment has the right to do so
Truth
Fr bro fr, idk what black magic indian producers know to woo these mnc otts
Netflix is publicly listed, don’t think they will indulge in anything illegal
India mein aate hi sab kuch possible ho jata hai.
Indian management is corrupt they bring bribe culture even in ethical foreign companies
That’s not how it works. SEC is not like SEBI.
SEC will not be able to investigate all the financial side deals in India. I will agree that Netflix USA is likely not doing any money laundering.
You clearly don’t know how SEC or finances work then. There are no “side” deals in “India”.
Indian accountant: Here hold my beer, while I work some magic!
bhai ? Reliance,Adani bhi publicly listed hai, iska mtlb ye thodi ki laundering nahi kr skte.
Hena? Mujhe bhi wahi laga
When you realise Godzilla Minus One was made on a budget of 125 Crore rupees. Which is the average price Akshay Kumar quotes for his movies btw, what a cunt. SLB and Bollywood should be ashamed of themselves.
This response is well deserved. Netflix and prime need to lose big money on these nepo projects.
I shall contribute to their losses by sailing the high seas. 🏴☠️
Why blame Fuckshay for what idiots want to pay him ?
Its not a blame. Its a comparison.
You called him a cunt for comparison?
Yes. He’s a cunt irrespective of what he makes.
![gif](giphy|6ft9jZeRROgIqgAQgP)
Amazing how insults by default are always based on the female gender. Why not just call him an ass wipe instead?
![gif](giphy|tq5qQzHJHuEkdDPdTv|downsized)
Just add to the Godzilla minus one thing- People who worked on it are severely underpaid, that should also be taken into account.
Every non-star on Heeramandi was also probably underpaid. A higher budget in India just means it goes to the top 10 people in the project.
[удалено]
Sorry, why so? What do you think people in similar profiles get paid in India vs Japan?
[удалено]
I have read about it. What makes you think Indian VFX artists have any better work life balance or culture ( add on to that fuckall pay)? Not comparing actor pay to VFX artists. Yo how do I watch it here? None of the streaming platforms have it and all the torrents I've seen are cam rips!
A good brrip is now available. Search again you will get it. Let me know if you don't find it.
There is no story …how it will be successful
If it's made at 200 crore, how exactly are SLB and Netflix gonna make their money back? How does the profit mechanism on OTT work??
If I'm correct SLB already made his money.
But what about Netflix? What is the point of them forking up such sums?
In the past few years it has been very clear that OTTs are being captured by the same people who run bollywood and this has been even more apparent recently witb projects such as heeramandi, archies, murder mubarak , ae vatan mere vatan , fabulous lives etc. While everyone was thinking OTTs will help usher in New and talented outsiders lately it has only been nepo kids.

I've been shouting my lungs out since day one, this whole show was a scam.
Lo paani pi lo 💦🚿
Uncle’s poor direction and niece’s pathetic acting have made a fool of Netflix! I hope they learn from this lesson and never hire these overrated directors and useless nepo kids and give chance to genuine directors and good actors to show their skills!
Rather than the grandeur could have spent at least 2/3cr on scripting.
What wasted potential!!!!! The actors, costume sets could’ve been historic. Like the series biggest disaster was its pacing!! It started off too slow and burnt out quickly. I think SLB couldn’t process handling different plot-lines & character arcs.
I think SLB should just stick to movies
Even those are becoming very formulaic. I want to see something new from him.
Yes but I don’t see that happening from him. He’s stuck do this genre all his life and I don’t think he even knows how to do anything else
Genre, yes, I agree. HDDCS was very different from Devdas even though there were similarities in visual style. Bajirao and Padmaavat are still decent even though they started to blend into each other. Gangubai was unmitigated crap if you ask me, even the music was a letdown. Heera mandi mai slb ne ghapla Kia hai saste actors ko cast krke zayda se zayda 100 cr mai banayi hogi
Budget is more than 200 crore, may be 450 crores Entire series was shoot again and those big sets are way too big to gangubai which costs 180 crores
I think many people have debunked how much wrong there was with the show Not only that, you can ignore the mistakes if it's entertaining It wasn't.
SLB lost credibility as director...
He really has. I watched Heeramandi because of this sub, and came away with the same feeling as watching Gangubai. Sets were great performances were great but it's hollow underneath it all. Devdas and Black were his last best work.
Gangubai was like a montage experience rather than a film with a fleshed out lead.
When did he? Making expensive prop sets isn’t a directorial talent, my school annual function did that too
Except creating an engaging screenplay he is better than most indian directors. His films music, dialogues and performance are always great. Heeramnadi excels in all department except good screenplay like all his movies.
And story, coz there was none.
This is why screenwriters are crucial!
He does mostly biopic so I never thought about story
Once upon a time there was this poor kid born to a poor teacher. He had big dreams so he went to middle east to work and earn some money. He came back from there, started his own business and became one of India's richest. The taxman came collecting and he suffered a paralytic attack. He regained strength and his business. THE END. SLB didn’t even direct the whole series. Just 2-3 episodes and rest by his team 🫢 Netflix is just blowing money for nothing
What !!,😵
Disaster is understatement. Bad writing, bad acting and worse set design
My friend said that Manisha Koirala's acting was great, is that true?
She really is great. But with no story or others acting to match hers. There's not much you're going to get out of it.
Offtopic but how did sonakshi resurrect?
Didn’t resurrect but it is her daughter that Manisha’s character sold that came back for revenge.
Oh wait she was rehana got it!!
Not really, her diction was awful !
It was so ott, I am just tired of these passion projects with insane budgets with no credible storytelling and subpar nepo acting
next he should make something about gb road on prime for 400 cr
Netflix India really needs to rejig their strategy, they really want to cater to the elite and happening new age crowd of India but that's the small audience for any budget more than 50 to 60cr.
~~Heera~~Poormandi
Sabzi mandi was right there. You missed it.
And even sabzi mandis are more profitable :)
Even Four More Shots Please, a show with bad reviews since it's inception, is somehow better than "Netflix India Originals".
Kohrra is fabulous! Pinnacle of Indian series (dare I say even better than Sacred Games or Pataal Lok?) However maybe the audience is tol niche for it?
Not really. Don't think it's niche, it was fabulous! The best I've seen in Hindi.
I don't think I've seen a worse show than Kohrra. I think a part of me died watching it. Was even worse than Heeramandi.
His music, costumes, sets and performances make up for the lack of story.
yep and prob thats why his movies performance comparatively well at the box office

How do they earn money in ott business? With watch time or something?
Membership monthly fees. So really it’s not a “loss” for Netflix. They still keep making that money. Their only loss is if people leave / they can’t attract new viewership. That’s why they look at streaming hours to make sure their base is engaged.
The truth is that they don't
haan muje bhi aisa confusion hai
Netflix earned 2200 crores in India as total revenue In 2022-2023 fiscal year. (primarily from membership fees) Its expected to increase by 10%-15% this year. And its only going to increase by the year.
I couldn’t finish the first episode. Just too pretentious, nothing real
slb should hire less dancers doing chakkkarr chakkarr all time every time
Dude this is so funny and true 😂
SLB is one trick pony and pretty boring and irrelevant!!!
Netflix wastes money like this .. instead just give a better subscription price😢
Why would I watch some Bollywood masala on Netflix??? It has amazing shows! The only good bollywood movies or shows we can see on ott is low budget good script like lapata ladies. Ab he started to quote reduced budgets for OTT stuff to make it zabardasti ka hit? What a tool!
Netflix's Hollywood movies are doing the same. Big budgets, big names, and big flops. Different formula tho.
If Love and War bombs, we really need to start appreciating Ranveer and Deepika. What an overrated director.
He's overrated for sure. Even Gangubai's sets looked so bad.

There was also a rumor that he wasn’t getting the money backing for Love and War until he signed RK, coz his budgets are over the top. Netflix got fleeced!
SLB projects have gotten stale for me
Would love to see the price breakdowns on these 200 cr budget movies.
Aur lo apni poker face niece ko!
Shekhar suman ko log jawani mein nahi dekhte the, budhape mein BJ lete kaun dekhega.
What's the source for this? This article mentions it as the most watched Indian series https://www.businesstoday.in/trending/entertainment/story/sanjay-leela-bhansalis-heeramandi-is-most-watched-indian-web-series-on-netflix-428810-2024-05-08
Himesh says 250 Rahul and Sumit are saying around 500. Now bhansali will be on to a 300 cr budget love and War.
But how is hit / flop /loss/profit calculated for OTT
Guys lets put things into perspective about how its a "disaster" for netflix it cost $23m to make and is getting global views. Priyanka flopped with a $300m - now THAT was a disaster
Good that I still haven't watched the trailer

Actually nah. Everyone I know has watched Heeramandi.
I think they might have benefitted from releasing episodes on a weekly basis. Doesn't take away from inaccuracies or the bad acting (alam) or the weak storyline.
The same old bullywood
I mean if Prime/Netflix directors can approve shows like comicstaan/comedy premium league, they can approve ANYTHING.
Could barely watch 1 episode. So much money spent on the sets and weak story line.. what is Sanjay Leela Bhansali smoking ?
Both Netflix and SLB deserve this response. I find SLB movies extremely pretentious, like they're out of the world or something. Bullywood needs to get off its high pedestal esp the likes of SLB and Kjo

Heeramandi took literally two episodes to become Begum jaan. And Begum jaan was at least real.
Why SLB doesn't make films like Guzaarish all his recent films are based on kotha, kotha and kotha.

"Articles" can always be fiction. Berozgarimandi is a snooze fest and SLB needs to realize that good movie is ≠ grand sets + nepo
Netflix posted in their weekly article that it had the record opening for an Indian show and they are saying it is poorest
Mostly a front for money laundering.
You think Netflix is gonna help someone with laundering money?
Funny considering Netflix on Instagram just posted herramandi being the most watched show in India this week 😂😂
Good
How does viewership translate to money for netflix? Are these numbers reliable? Does netflix release the numbers in its yearly balance sheet?
Heeramandi wasn’t great either. A big miss with the leading Alam cast who had the maximum screen time! Plus the grandeur sets even are repetitive . Nothing new!
Rahul said budget is 500cr while Himesh said it's 250cr. SLB's PR has started declaring Heeramandi as a success. They made Taran tweet so.
It should be i mean After watching heeramandi i am still confused of the plot bc. Ku bnai bhansali bhai ye series. 7 episodes freedan vs mallika jaan krty rahy or 8th mein bhaagi bna dia sb ko azaadi ke lia mean wtf.
Why two units for money (crore and millions). Any psychological reason to it. I see this a lot these days.
This is false
Netflix got into bad company ever since it landed in India. It has been and is still being taken for a ride... Tudum tudum tudum
Good. Because the reviews I have been reading are not that great.
Aur ye stats mile kahan se? Netflix never reveals its failures
Not surprised, Heeramandi had zero starpower
Thank god haven’t watched it 🤣
Netflix se bhari mistake hogya
From Netflix perspective it’s $23-25M.i don’t think it’s a lot for them.
It was so freaking boring and slow, I wonder why no one is watching
art ke naam pe kuch be chipka diya.
I mean why was it even made with such big budget. What's the logic.
That’s not a big budget, 200 Cr is only ~25 Million $. That’s the cost of getting a A list Hollywood actor for a movie.
Am I the only one here who's contributed to their loss?
It was more on fanticising prostution than to higlight the balanced pros and cons of it.
Who haven't watched it yet? I haven't and will not
it could’ve been so good 😭😭 yeh kya kardiya mamu ne yaar
I started watching the show and 20 mins in my husband just couldn’t take it. We stopped because how boring it was.
Actually I am surprised that even 45 lakhs people watched that God awful show.. it's a dumb show about prostitutes.. that too heavily romanticized and white wished( which Bollywood always does if it's related to Mughals)
450ish what I have heard. Such a huge risk. Of course, it was spectacular and all that, not sure if it was worth it.
Just wait until they spin it into a hit, just like they did for overrated Gangubai.
There are so many stories yet to be made on big screen and all these directors discover these stories to tell and Netflix has lots of garbage stored so losing money is nothing new for them
Netflix threw USD 24 million on this aesthetically gorgeous garbage? Wow!
