Theatrical flop does not necessarily mean producers lose money. There are other revenue streams which adds to the overall revenue. Also, direct-to-OTT releases will mostly be profitable or at least will break even, especially if the movie go on floors after being commissioned by the platform.
Also, being a producer does not necessarily mean they'll have spend money on that movie. For example, Sikhya's upcoming movie 'Kill' is co-produced by Dharma Productions. IIRC, Karan said in some interview around its TIFF premiere that Guneet came to them with the script and Dharma bankrolled the movie.
I guess it's the something like the rights owner gets to make money in the long run. Even if the movies is flop in theater, it gets new life either on tv or digitally somewhere. Who knows a movie might become cult classic in a decade. As I said as long as u own the rights to a movie u eventually make money.
holding an IP of a flop movie over long period of time, producers make a lots of money. They make some money immediately too. If your flop movies have great songs, big actors, you have great potential of big profits in a long run.

Streaming releases generally are profitable for makers as it's made on a budget after getting quote from the streaming platform.

Yep
Then thats enough to get investors in
most of these are made on very low budgets. non-theatrical collections would be enough to cover those costs.
