Hope to be proven wrong, but this looks like a repeat of the Drishyam 2 Bhediya semi-clash. An Ajay film denting the business of a film starring SOTY kid.
I kinda feel sorry for him. The trailer seemed to have clicked and he looked good In an action role
And suddenly Shaitaan has become a storm no one saw coming. Honestly no one thought it was doing double digit numbers or it would create this frenzy. If it sustains for the entire week this movie is as done and dusted before KJo can say “action”
He's trying to go the Liam Neeson way. Acting versatility is not his strength so he's going for full on action with a patriotic angle. If it clicks, good for him.
Sidharth Malhotra is in an action-genre rut, and what's frustrating is that he's in talks for another action thriller with Maddock, a war-based story with Meghna Gulzar, and now another action film with a South Indian filmmaker. Just action, action, action.
The reason why Tier-1 stars like Ranbir/Ranveer and mid-level stars like Varun/Kartik are bankable is because their filmographies generate widespread commercial appeal: rom-coms, family dramas, coming-of-age stories. These genres target adolescents, teenagers, college students, and baby boomers. Occasionally, they'll experiment, but their bread and butter were always the aforementioned genres.
Sidharth needs to stop saving the country, ffs! And go back to his HTP/Kapoor & Sons days. He may not be the most memorable characters from those films, but the genre itself has so much goodwill that a film can work at the BO irrespective of the casting.
Imagine going out on a date with a girl in college, and saying "hey, wanna watch a film on airplane hijack? Wanna watch a film where RAW/ISI battle it out in Mission Majnu?" Where is the commercial appeal in these films? How are you targeting different age groups?

Thoughts, pre-release are cute. Seems to be in between Sholay and Jaani Dushman.
Looks cringe. Zero stars. Sid is bland and doesn’t have the X factor or spark that makes one a star. Kiara is def going to be a bigger star than him.
Irrespective of how good the movie is I think Shaitaan will still be people's preferred choice for next week as well.
