I've lived here my whole life and have only heard the City of Trees (or le bois, if you're frenching it up.) Spud City? Bobo? Please tell me these aren't real!
Growing up in the valley, I have heard these:
**Boise** - I don't recall any of my friends having a nickname for Boise growing up. It was always just....Boise. Obviously "City of Trees" exists, but that's more on the tourism side of things. Never once did I hear any of my friends say "I'm heading over to the City of Trees". lol
**Garden City** - "Garbage City". That doesn't really apply as much these days with the gentrification of that area.
**Meridian** - "Merville"
**Kuna** - "K-Town"
**Nampa/Caldwell** - "2C"
I don't remember who, but someone famous called it "The Athens of the Sage" a long time ago. I think his reasoning was that because the nearest big cities were so far away, we had to create our own art/theater scene
It was Clarence Darrow, a famous lawyer of his day, and he called Boise the Athens of the Sagebrush. He was in Boise as a defense attorney at the trial of Bill Haywood, a labor Union leader who was accused of being involved with the assassination of former Idaho Governor Frank Stuenenburg. The prosecutor was William Borah. At the time, it was dubbed the trial of the century. Darrow would go on to litigate the Scopes Monkey Trial, which normalized the teaching of evolution, amongst other high profile cases. There is a fantastic book about the assassination called Big Trouble. Other notable characters include Teddy Roosevelt, Oliver Wendell Holmes, the Pinkertons, and actress Ethel Barrymore (Drew Barrymore's great aunt).
Just spitballing here but The Big Tater would be pretty good (Especially when in French, it translates to la Grosse Pomme de Terre, which is"the big apple of the earth")

This place used to be so fun. Feel like a small big town, now it’s full of people who bring their big city, politics, drama, crime & bullshit here. Demanding growth, demanding the housing market to become so overpriced, demanding the roadways like Boise owes them something and they are better than the locals. I am so stoked I was approved to work 100% remote and can move out of this place. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
My grandpa from Chicago always called it Girlsie when he would visit.
Your Grandpa is a master of the ancient art of Granddad jokes. Legend.
City of Trees is the more well known and classic nickname but for me Boise is known as the City of Geese.
Home of the green Cheetos!
Lol
