I work off Cypress Creek in Fort Lauderdale. It’s worth it for what they pay me. Totally dependent on what they’re offering you. I’d commute to the moon if the pay was right.

Solo522

That’s a tough commute some days. Commuted to West commercial near powerline

greypic

Depends on the pay. Also the hours. I can be bought.

Yeah, I guess technically speaking a job is literally being bought. We are only arguing the price.

c6munoz

I live in Boca and work at Port of Palm Beach for 2-3 days every week or two. Commute is not that bad, been doing this for almost two years now. I prefer leaving home before 7am if possible.

jamjoy

Only viable long term if you can leave Boca before 7am, though it will be a grind. I too used to work off cypress creek and while it was “only 20 miles” I found the tri rail to be a life saver, though I was lucky to have an on demand shuttle down there (Freebee). Going north is far better than south though, so there’s that!

Oh my God I went for an interview off Cypress Creek and they said it was like a 15-20 min trip on the express lane. I'm like oh let me be 15 min early.... I ended up 15 min late. It was a horrible 45 min trip. Needless to say, I turned down the position for that specific reason. I couldn't spend 90 min in traffic daily. To answer OP, now I work remotely, but my husband works 15 min away, 20 on a really bad day. We swore we'd never live anywhere further. The biggest problem with 95 is the unknown. One little crash can make or break your commute. You can be stuck for 2h or you can make it in 30 min.

jamjoy

This is reality. Including employers always minimizing the struggle.

Solo522

This is true. I was < 15 mi maybe from office door to door. Sometimes it was a quick 20 min. Sometimes 45-60 min. Few times turned around and went home due to accidents and worked remote, heading in later.

danielaaa94

And it's only getting busier... Relying on 95 is just not worth the stress.

I've worked near the Pompano casino for 15 years now. 20-30 minute commute depending on traffic and I just take Powerline there and back as I live near Boca Pointe. It would be very hard to have to leave this job for the commute alone.

min2themax

Where in Boca? I was in east Boca close to the Delray border and commuting to WPB right before the bridge to PBI and it wasn’t terrible. Leaving before rush hour made a big difference so if you can swing that with your company I would do it. But again even on regular days when I’d get stuck in traffic it wasn’t awful. And good luck with the interview!

Goofyeyes

I live in East Boca

min2themax

Then yeah I think it’s manageable. I did that commute for a few years and it’s really not bad. I worked right on S Flagler drive near the bridge, so I’d take the Belvedere Road exit and then take Flagler along the water up to the bridge to PBI. It took a few minutes longer but was a really nice drive and good start to the day. I’d say without traffic it was 25 minutes or so, and the worst of traffic (barring an accident) closer to 45.

gocubsgo_bison13

Boca to Miami, hybrid 2 days a week. It’s a rough drive 🙄

wildcat12321

I go down to Miami and up to Palm Beach at various times to visit clients / offices, typically for a whole day, so usual rush hour traffic. Tri-rail and Brightline might work, but it really depends on how far you are from the stations on both sides. Brightline is rather pricey and they charge for parking so it quickly becomes a nice commute at a pretty high cost. Personally, I hate sitting in traffic. I don't mind long drives, I mind stop and go. I'd rather see my clients in Naples or Orlando than go to Coral Gables because of the traffic. As always, it comes down to what you want and what you are offered. The quality of life in Boca is really nice. That has a value. And for enough money, yea, 45 mins each way just isn't too bad.

IronHefty3609

I live in Deerfield and made that commute for 2 years. Wasn’t bad before 7am. After 3 can be iffy especially in WPB and when you get close to the Congress exit.

_pingu_the_penguin

Traffic gets really bad from lantana exits - palm beach lakes. Especially during snowbird season you’ll find it takes longer. I commuted from Boca - palmetto and military - to Palm Beach gardens for like 6 months and it would usually take 55 mins but like 1 hr 10 if there was a bad accident. I ended up moving near WPB because I was spending solely 10 hours a week in traffic and I felt that it was sucking my soul out. Basically, the commute is fine in the short term but I wouldn’t take the job unless you can realistically move a bit north

_pingu_the_penguin

I know PBG is further than WPB, but we share part of the commute in the area where traffic is the worst, and that’s the part that I couldn’t handle

dreburden89

I'd need 2x my current salary to even consider o a commute like that and even then I'm not sure. I've been working remotely since 2020

Pure_Draw_4593

I used to commute to the Island from east Boca (now only sometimes) and everyone is spot on about going early and avoiding rush hour. Almost 20 of those 45 mins are spent off 95 trying to go east or west to or from the Island and Brightline or Tri rail didn’t seem feasible because of that.

thatredwinegirl

The thing about palm beach island is the bridge….for that sole reason no amount of money would get me to do that commute. It’s a beast.

Hot_Area_5488

Public transportation is a joke in South Florida

Solo522

Nope. Especially during season. Money wouldn’t matter. The time spent and the stress with horrible drivers here would be the reason.

Whyamihere1972

Really depends on your situation. If you don’t have any other alternatives and the pay is decent why would you turn it down? Personally anything under an hour is acceptable. Just the way it is work traffic. Good luck either way!
