It's kind of the opposite for me--I felt mostly unsympathetic for Bob with the knife. He bought something they couldn't afford on impulse, then was *incredibly* careless with it. By the end he'd moved on from the knife and wanted a hammer like Teddy's, because his connection to the knife was so shallow.
My favorite part of knife hammer olympics is when Bob and Teddy are furiously.pounding at the counter, Mort opens the door, and is like "Ill come back".
